- Welcome back to AdamPE21's garage! In this video we introduce a major undertaking - converting my 1995 BMW 318ti to a Subaru STi inspired AWD build. Uncle Nate and I picked up a parts car E46 from a cool guy in Ohio on a whim and we are using stuff off of it to make this work.
The work on this project will span many episodes and decades/centuries so don't forget to like and subscribe to follow along!!
Here's what we have planned... including but not limited to:
- Installing an E46 AWD front cradle and diff into the E36
- 6 speed transmission and electronic transfer case out of an E90
- Corresponding stepper motor controller and sensors to manually control center diff lockup (ala Subaru's DCCD)
- Swapping in an M54 all aluminum engine and TURBO!!!! (and corresponding tuning to run E85)
- Installing a Z3M 3.23:1 rear diff LSD
- Rusty body panel repair
- Coilovers?
- Cage?
- Rally time!?
Glad that turd is off my hands😂 enjoy the new spark plugs! Looking forward to seeing an awd e36
hahahaha!! Yeah man! Thanks for following along.
I’m glad you’re doing this, always wanted to make an xti but finding a Ti shell where I’m from is hard. Keep up the work!
I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out, I have 2 e46 325ti's an M54B30 on an engine stand and am about to pick up an X3 e83 with the hopes of building an AWD 330xti the rally car BMW should have built. Keep up the great work 👍
Thanks man! I need to get some cars out of the garage before winter then the TI and E46 parts car are going in.
Would love to do this on my Ti if successful. I once bought an M52 with STI coil packs patched in with the originals lol. Best of luck.
Thanks! Biggest thing I’m trying to figure out is throttle by cable vs TBW!
Im watching closely im makin my z3 awd after the k swap😂
AWD Z would be excellent!
Want me to link you up to a guy who already decoded the e9x tcase and made a controller out of a rasberry pi? He got all the e90 coding to work with the mk20 system n shit. It was ashtray mounted and used a rotary dial for anything from 50/50 to rwd. I think the controller is gone now, but he could prolly help save ya some shit. Unless the point is the flex of doing it urself. Are you Evans Brother? Haha
Hey man thanks for letting me know - I’m going to dig into it a bit to learn what I can, if I hit a wall I will get back with you!
@AdamPE21 Awesome! That's the way to do it. Love you're making this happen! Gunna be a monster
i’ll take that info @maxminstats
What's supplier in europe for the panels!? I just got an euro e36 and it looks VERY similar to yours (sedan tho) in terms of rust. We should follow each others progress!
Here’s what the guy suggested- I am not affiliated with the seller:
