Back in the 80's I was working for a Chevy dealer in Milwaukee,we had a customer bring a 1984 Suburban that had the 454 engine replaced under warranty in South Dakota. On the way to Milwaukee the engine developed a knock. He contacted Chevy who sent a replacement engine to replace it,Our truck mechanic replaced the engine but when he went to install all the accessories he noticed that the pulley on the crankshaft only had two bolts instead of three,The balancer never had the third hole drilled and tapped. He finished the job and sent the customer down the road,At the time I had a 1979 Chevy 4X4 that needed an engine.Well Chevy had thirty days to take the old engine back or to destroy it. After 30 days they never claimed it,so I installed in my truck and drove for it 5 years!

I’m soon to be 53 years old, and some of the earliest memories is of in my backyard my dad had a 38 coupe that he raced on a local dirt track, it was nearly the same color orange, his car number was 40D , as a little boy I barely remember seeing it race, but when I’d look at that thing, as a little boy, it could have been a modern day NASCAR ! 50 years ago I started a mobile tuneup business. The very first car was a show quality bone stock 1940 Chevrolet coupe. Even the spark plugs were original. It idled at 450rpm and was smooth as glass. I worked on hundreds of cars but this has stuck in my mind as very special. When I was a kid my best friends older brother’s built a 40 Chevy coupe in much the same configuration as yours. With similar suspension and an Oldsmobile 324 coupled to a Lasalle transmission and a hydraulic clutch. It meant business back in the day.

Most of the time if you buy a car all you have to do is put insurance on it and as long as you have the title you can drive it home without issue. I’m not sure about all states but that was the law in GA
I’m sore he mentioned it in one of his old old vids explaining it think it’s something to do with a 30day title that mans he can drive it. Hey, saw your comment and thought I had written it! I'm 62 with MS and very bad arthritis etc. I was also a mechanic, automotive machinist etc ( also several strokes ). Anyhow seems like our old best friends carb clean and especially brake clean could be the culprit for our MS. Well just wanted you to know you're not alone, hang in there my friend. Nick
i fit in this category had to stop every day work hava arthritis but worse at this point is neuropathy i take 800 mil 4 times a day my drs say i need more but thats the limit according to the book , yall know how that goes
I'm half yalls age... only 36 but with a back surgery at 20 and atleast 2 other herniated discs... I'm a full blown diabetic, with super high blood pressure we are having a hard time getting under control... carpal tunnel in both hands... and very severe neuropathy... and I'm an aircraft mechanic... by the time I'm don't drilling and filling and repairing planes I'm too sore and hurting to wrench anymore... but in my teen years and 20s I owned 13 f bodys... from a 70 nitrous powered 355 camaro... to a full bolt on built Trans and rear end and suspension 99 LS1 Trans am... several 3rd Gen f body's in between and a couple mustangs as well...
I always love watching his videos... his knowledge is amazing and his sense of humor just adds to the already great content...
Loved the sound of the big block. You can tell when you have a happy big block.
Agree! rumpty rump!
5 whole years? Sounds like a chevy
I immediately thought of the Ernie Von Schledorn commercials from my childhood. I know he didn't sell Chevy's, lol
@@tuberNunyahe could have sold it, or put a lot of miles on it in that time. I've put 150,000 miles on a car in a little less than 5 years.
@@tuberNunya I put 195k on my ram in about 5 years. I got rid of it then. 🤷

What impresses me the most is doing so much of this work (well, most of what we see anyway) using only one hand, and still giving us good video in the process. Thank you!
Derek the stuff you endure to give us a video to look forward to is incredible. There are times when I am actually worried about you when watching one of your videos. Then I remind myself that you had to have made it home ok because you posted a video. I appreciate you Derek. You give me something to look forward to in my life.
Keep up the great videos!
You need a set of towing lights for your travel kit. Sit them on the deck lid, wire them in and go
Then the video would only be 40 minutes long But still entertaining
When I was a kid I remember watching wrenching shows with my dad Saturday/Sunday mornings, now here I am a grown man watching this bringing back fond memories. Keep up the good work
A guy just finished binge watching roadworthy rescues and made his way here. Love the content!
You do realize that RWR began here right? Not trying to be a jackass... but he has ran this channel forever... and discovery liked the idea and proposed an offer for their own show... but I'm glad he was allowed to keep his own YT channel... the content here is MUCH BETTER than their channel IMO...
Thank you for always providing family friendly entertainment Bieri family. Thank you all for all the hardwork and grueling schedule

Happy weekend guys, I'm in here watching because there's a thunderstorm storm on my Mopar 360 truck outside. So naturally, I'm building the top end in my living room with Derky here. 😂👍
I really need a favor ! PLEASE tell "little grip" that his channel is our favorite after his dad's! He does such a awsome job and it stands out like a sore thumb that he has GREAT PARENTS ! BEST 2 CHANNELS ON YT !!!!!!!
I can't wait to see this old girl get some shine and TLC, this one is a gem! . Great work as always Derek, you are truly an inspiration!
I'm really conflicted. If I watch this now, what's a guy gonna watch tonight?
Glad I'm not the only one!
😂 just re watch it.. problem solved. A guy can't watch these too many times..
I’m listening it to it while I work, I’m going to watch it later tonight when I get home.
Couldn't wait. Gave in and watched it. Great as always. Thanks Derek!
Same here, but I HAVE to watch with my Hubby and I’m still working!!!!!

Not far behind you Tony, I'm 67 and love Gassers too.

I'm 31 and had no idea what a gasser was, or that there even was any such thing. I feel deprived.
Just wanted to say thank you. I have been through some really hard times lately and watching you has helped me stay positive and sane thanks
You've been a terrible influence on me. Yesterday I hopped on a train and went 350 miles south to drive back a $1000 1982 Mercedes 240d. It was a helluva journey home and I don't regret my decisions whatsoever.
Positive influence.
Its called building character.

That car deserves a few updates, especially for safety. Very cool old Hot Rod. Glad you made it home safely and thanks for sharing

I totally agree! After a sh*#^y week it’s great to have a few laughs and a couple cold snacks.
I really needed this video. My dads funeral was on thursday. While he wasn't a big car guy, he had the same wit and sense of humor. Thanks for getting me to laugh.
Thanks!
My 82 year old Dad has his old 40 Chevy Business Coupe stashed up high in the attic of his shop. He paid $75 for it when he was 16 years old, and drove it until 1965 which was the year that I was born. It’s cool to see another one!
Help him get it out and do something with it
One of my good friends who passed about 8 years ago hustled cars when I was really young he always had a few different hotrod this guy would be driving something different every other day he had a bunch of old coupes in the 70s he had a really cool 33 or 34 coupe that was chopped so heavy that the windshield was only about 6 inches in hight and it was flat black with a big block and a tunnel ram he drove it around with open headers and the cops pulled him over a few times a day he swapped that car foe a big block 67 camaro that had every candy color they made on it this guy Mike painted the car and as soon as he finished it he swapped my friend the car had the name paranoid on the quarter panels in gold leaf lettering great looking car. This guy had more cool cars then anyone I've ever seen and I think that is what got me Into hot rods at a very young age. Great video
When I was younger me and my dad used to move around a lot of equipment and older rigs for farm work. And we had to do a lot of direct wiring of here I am lights. And he used to carry an old turn signal flasher canister so he could make them into hazards if the need arises. Love what you’re doing!! God bless you and your family Derek❤. Hands down best videos on UA-cam and probably about any other platform!
Your best bet is your own car hauler.

A fellet enjoys watching these episodes. They're very entertaining.
I remember when I first started binging this channel a couple years ago. Derick's comedic relief was a fun surprise. Now it just seems...normal :)
The first Derek'ism I first remember about 3 years ago was
"madder than a mosquito in a mannequin factory" 😆
Man do I wish that was mine. I'm 65 and still love the old school hotrods. 😊
But heres my question to you phil, who gaf if ur 65 and love old cars?
My boss gave me a 41 4 door that had the front end stripped for body parts. It sat in a field for nearly 30 years with no hood. I got it running in a weekend and drove it home without brakes on all the back roads. Guys like you are a heck of an influence on anyone who can even remotely turn a wrench.
no brakes hardly any steering .....driving a piece of crap back with big plans to bring it back....moments of your life you never forget and never regret....rule of 2: spend twice what they're worth and sell it for half that after years of work bringing it back....what a hobby!
One thing I personally will never get tired of is anything that has to do with a squarebody. You gave me inspiration to fix up the 77 k10 I have
I have been watching bits and pieces of this episode since Friday and I have to say this is helping my recovery. As a mechanic myself (no such thing as a former mechanic) I am recovering from my third back surgery and this is really helping with that. Thank you Derek for all you do. I would love to be able to keep doing what you do. I miss it a lot.
I don't know how many videos you have... 500? More.. I don't count. I saw them all! But between the Model A Ford and this... well, the Pantera... but you had "help"... this I think was one of the best I've seen... FABULOUS!!! And how trouble-free can it be? Here in my country we really have this word "desenrascado" which means: whatever you have at hand, use it and solve it! ALL! VERY GOOD!!! Thank you very much Derek! To you and your family!
Yesss!!! Let’s see more square body stuff!! I will never get tired of it!! Love when you go in-depth on them too! A guy loves learning from a guy that knows a thing or two about those 4 equally sized sides trucks

There is another youtuber I watch that has a 40 Chevy like that one. He said it's a one year car, and parts are hard to find. Love the old school cars! I would absolutely leave that wiring. That's part of the story of the car. I cant wait to see what you do with it. Cool ride!
Mr. Rogers comes to mind while your talking to the camera. Very funny. Keep on keeping on Derek!
Derek, when that thing started so quickly, i truly laughed out loud! Its a testment the to desire of thing rigs to simply run. You seem to be the master of sketchy situations getting these rigs back to the house, stay safe and keep'em running. Blessings to you and the family. fred

Absolutely classic Derek. I can't believe you do this for a living… Well I can and I'm glad you do, but I just can't believe it. Just as an example, @ 1:11:43 at your first gas stop, it's the middle of the night, you're in a borrowed shirt, you've had ATF and oil rolling down your arms all day and a huge spiders web hanging from your ball cap all the way down to your neck!!!! finally a feller can rest his earthpounders, fill his belly, wet his backneck, and relax with a VGG video. Eternally grateful to Mr. Derek for posting these. Although, I don't remember there being soooo many multiminute ads.
UA-cam premium is worth every penny, even just for this channel with no ads.
Well, that's why a feller oughta be using Firefox (PC & Android) & the extensions: ublock origin & Adguard adblocker.
A guy watches every video! I always wonder how Derek keeps from getting stopped by the HWY Patrol. Does anybody know???
I remember a guy saying one time, he does get stopped but out of respect for law enforcement. He doesn’t film it. Just pays the fine and keeps it moving. Cost of a feller doing business I reckon.
I’m not 💯 sure how the American laws are I’m from uk and we can’t drive nothing unless it’s booked in for an mot and only drive to and from a test station if it don’t have tax or mot but needs insurance 🤷🏻
Or unless the vehicle is over 40 years old don’t require anything except insurance so maybe it’s something similar to that
Gotta say I love your analogy on riding the wagon down the hill with the handle folded back, brought back a lot of memories. Kids don't know what they're missing these days.😊
