I don't think people realize how common it is that people like this father are very two faced. My Mom has a boyfriend, and he acts like he is the greatest person on earth, literally dubs himself 'a super duper guy' when other people are around, but, behind closed doors he is an actual monster to my mother, to my siblings, and I. People like that are dangerous. I feel so terrible for the mother and son.

While he is volatile, she is highly manipulative. Two different types of abuse, I grant, but it's abusive all the same. That entire family is messed up.

What I've noticed with working with kids is this stuff happens a lot. Like the adults act like their lives are all amazing but you see their children acting out and you wonder why. Then you get close to them, earn their trust and they open up to you. I had a rough childhood aswell so I think it helps me see stuff like that easier.

This boy just described my father, everyone loves him at work, he tries to look so calm and nice, but oh boy when he got home he became the worst type of guy, there were times when I was afraid of going to sleep because I was always wondering if he would try to hurt me or my mother. She focused her hate on me my whole life. She beat swore hit spit upon my father. As a little girl, I told Father Mike at church. I thought he could make the abuse stop. All he did was make it worse. He called my mother on the phone. Her rage upon me was the worst that day. After that, I never told anyone anything ever again. This episode in Dr Phil brought all those memories back.
