I do this thing now where I make mega long Amazon wish lists and never buy it 🤷🏼♀️🤣 doom shop scroll I call it but at least I’m not spending money. I need to get savy with my finances
My mother was a shop addict. In order to break the addiction i would shop and make a list of everything i wanted to buy with price and store. If any of the items haunted me over the week that i needed that item i would return and buy it. I didn't go back i buy any of it. I love shopping at TJ Maxx type stores that i you see it you buy it because it will be gone if you wait Even now if buy anything i allow time to think about my purchases and i return about 50%.
Great question! I guess the main difference I've noticed is that the issue seems more prevalent with women, at least in my personal and professional experience 😊
@@drchloe_ This is odd, given that in this era of online purchasing, men are almost certainly doing their/our share of binge buying also. What prompted you to get interested in this subject anyway?
@@pukeachuYes you're absolutely right, I'm not suggesting that women actually suffer from this problem more. I was just answering the question you asked about what I've noticed about male/female differences in this area and sharing what I personally have observed in my personal and professional experience. What prompted me to comment in the news clip here was simply a request by the network for me to share some tips about how to control purchasing and reasons why people overpurchase.
My mum was a mega shopper, i seem to have the same issues, along with all her other mental issues, that ive inherited, from her anxiety OCD depression etc, i didnt have much as a child, no clothes or toys, if i buy something i assume it will end all of my problems 😢.
In my area there's a church that donates stuff outside. It's free so I find myself always grabbing stuff cuz it's free. I love it there but because it's free I don't limit myself
The first problem is referring to it as "Shopping Addiction". There is no such thing as a " Shopping Addiction". There IS a compulsion to shop. Addiction and compulsion are not the same thing. Just as there is no "gambling addiction" or "sex addiction". These are ABSOLUTE FACTS. Anyone trying to tell you different it lying to push an agenda.
For this past 3 days. I have never ordered anything not really necessary online. I promise to keep it that way
Good for you! 💯
"30 Days to Stop Being a Shopaholic" was a good book. It's by Harper Daniels.
Will look this book up. Thanks
Thanks ❤

I had this problem, and I have a bachelor's in psychology
Same
Fascinating. Have you noticed differences between the ways this manifests in men and women?

My mum was the opposite and I have this issue. I wonder if it manifests either way. Interesting. I am improving over the years though.
I'm glad I hate shopping.
😂❤
I order things from Amazon to avoid driving around town looking for the items. There are items I can’t find in my small town stores
I stopped carrying a credit card, and very limited cash. I also don't use Amazon nor keep my credit card information stored on my phone. I
