Weird me, but I really like getting into the filthy places that haven't been cleaned since the day the piece was completed. I find great satisfaction in getting the grime out and restoring the beauty of the piece. I don't understand why because I sure don't feel the same about housecleaning! 😊 Anyway, I always feel great when that part of a restore is done.

UA-cam turned off comments on your "burned" video. So I decided to comment on this one. I can pledge to pray for you and your fundraising efforts. God's got you. Believe and see results. God bless you and all you do! I love your videos because you explain things that may make us wonder why. And you do not have monotonous content. I will be praying and put you on my church texting prayer group. I will maybe be able to buy you a coffee, after we get our Social security checks.

It’s crazy. I never knew you could wash wooden furniture. I always thought water on wood was a big no-no, because it would warp the wood.

I felt a little "bothered" on behalf of the owner whose business has been seen by 20k people as of now. That's a BIG shift for me since I started the episode thinking that having a second generation working on the table would contribute to making this table a really special heirloom. After watching this show, I would have a hard time looking at the table set, and I certainly wouldn't tell my friends to watch. Sometimes people talk about the furniture being repaired without thinking of how the owner/client will feel about what they say. There are very few things that can't be said in a kind, respectful way. Even selecting the time and article you talk about can make a big difference.

@@seriously8522Respectfully, this seems to have been a “well loved” set. The cleaning of it probably was no surprise to the owner. It gave me the idea to do a project with my grand of one of her great grands furniture pieces. I was working out the logistics in the back of my mind while waiting for the reveal. I never would have thought to wash a piece so thoroughly, and now I will get to share that experience and have a great time too.

If I had to guess what the problem was with all those chairs, it was probably poor glue being used originally in manufacturing. Whether the glue was old, not applied enough or maybe even the wrong kind of glue. It seems the glue wasn't very good. It could also have been humid in the area where these chairs resided for years. Who knows. Thankfully, modern glue is a lot better. Science!

Nice job Trena. A couple of thoughts from your counterpart in Michigan. I do chairs for a high end restaurant. When I get them the top where people touch all the time is incredibly filthy. My guess it's the dirtiest thing in the place. But since it's dark on dark wood neither the customers nor the owners realize just how filthy they are. By the time I get all the dirt off, the color and finish are gone too. Then I just restain and shoot a new coat of lacquer.
Also if I have loose chairs with no broken wood I reglue CA glue. I can do a chair in 5 minutes. I know this will make hard-core woodworkers cringe, but it gets the job done. Customers refer me to others and bring more for me to do. Yes I know it's difficult to reverse, but it does give a lasting tight joint. For this I charge 40$ per chair. This makes up a little for all the other jobs that are more than I first estimate.
    Your comments/criticism would be appreciated.

OK already I learned something - the double-long-clamp trick to clamp a long table! Clever, simple, now I see it, why didn't I see it?!
Thank you Trena. Always learning something from you.
On that note, have you thought, apprentice? Think how much faster if your apprentice started with disassembly, cleaning, left you to do triage, the hard, clever stuff in repair. They could learn on chairs, learn patching gluing and clamping. Then finishing, all the blending and treating and staining techniques and processes.
Your Dad taught you. Who will you teach?
Anyway my two cents worth, forgive me if I overstepped.

Love this. I cracked up when you said, "We don't follow the rules." I try to tell my customers that they can paint latex/waterborne paint over old worn out oil, but some just can't handle that (exterior). "Well, OK, make it more difficult." I don't say that, I just think it. Hardware has been very difficult these days - not as bad as what you have been through, but not fun lately. We are independent, but True Value (our major supplier) declared Chapter 11 in mid October. We found out about it on the news. Chasing inventory is tiring. Ben Moore is changing things too, so sorry about my sarc comment about Behr - but that still stands. Looking for new wholesalers, but the first one is giving us ridiculous terms. I basically told them to go..... I think it's settling down, but still very stressful. My head is reeling. We always just ran our biz, and now it's very hard. Actually it's been tough since the 2020 shut downs. I admire you for keeping on. But you are younger than I am.

Oh my, this makes me want to go take my table apart and clean it right now, and it's bedtime! I clean every part of my table. I started doing that when my kids were preteens. I found out where my youngest sons green beans were going when he was 10. Yep under the table on the ledge. He hated green beans and I would tell him he couldn't leave the table until they were gone.
