    It went from an ugly duckling to a beautiful swan. The sum being greater than the individual components. I especially like this video. The background music in particular. So appropriate for the thoughtfulness put into this restoration.

    I cannot understand why somebody would paint over a lovely wood grained chair as you have revealed. That is the appeal of furniture, the personality of the wood grain imo. And your attention to detail esp. with small repairs is much appreciated. I like that this piece is a hybrid of contrasting woods.

  • @lonnarheaj
    @lonnarheaj 6 місяців тому +1

    Trena, thank you for sharing another lovely example of your skill and artistry!!!
    I'm guessing this chair was made in the 1930's. I have discovered through my years that a lot of furniture crafted in the 1930's was made from whatever assorted wood parts and pices that were on hand, and then faux grain and various colored stains tied it all together and made it look like a piece of finer furniture. "Whatever works" is emplyed more often when times are hard, finances are limited, and resources are scarce. Furniture pieces like this chair served long and hid their secrets well. Their longevity is a testament to the original craftsmanship, regardless of the assorted materials utilized for construction. The additions of oversized screws and nails add to the chairs apparent refusal to give up.
    Vintage treasures like this once again lovely chair make me wish furniture could talk and tell us its story. ❤

    Not to nitpick but using screws rather than glue to secure pieces of wood together is the opposite of primitive. It is an industrial means to the same end. I completely agree with you that using screws is far less elegant and definitely less artisan but not primitive.
    Your result using skillfully applied hardware was beautiful!
