As the old saying goes, if it’s not broke then don’t t fix it! I use thermal spring water, avene being my favourite on my eczema/ redness face between skincare applications. Water from the tap can sometimes sting my face but thermal water never does.
Same girl!
Same here
Yes the chlorine does that. Love Avene
Same ❤
Do you use the same sort of water to wash your face?
I am French, living in France and here thermal spring water is used by most women in their skincare routine, and by most of the men who have a skincare routine too. I use Uriage because it is rich in Copper and therefore perfect for acne pro skin.
Do you use the canned sprays, or do you just get spring water and use your own sprayer? The aerosol processing seems like it’d be an unnecessary step if you’ve local access.
@@swesttttt Most people don't have a direct access to it though so we buy the sprays
Is this a common French skincare brand? I love la roche posay so I’m always looking for more French skincare!
@@thecaamano14 it is, especially for people with sensitive skin. Though here this is a brand that is sold in pharmacies. For other french brands, Avène is a thermal water based brand similar to La Roche Posay (and I would dare to say slightly better as well) and Bioderma as well. My family swear by these three brands
Thank you for all this precious information. I’m using it in the hot summer against oily skin and it seems to work for me.
The Avene spring water has become one of the most enjoyable parts of my skin care each day. I spritz with the water, and then while it's damp, I apply a snail mucin toner and then follow up with the FAB Ultra Repair Skin moisturizer. My sensitive, extremely dry skin has improved so much since I started doing this twice a day!
Hey! I have eczema on my face and I am considering to buy a thermal water. But Idk which brand to choose out of la rosche, avene, vichy and uriage eau. Also, I read a lot of negative comments about thermal water that they sting eczema prone skin. Is it true. Also Did you ever try centella toners? Are they good.
Would love to know your skincare routein
Thank you for sharing
@Arundhati Pareek it may sting if there is an open wound due to the itching and scratching cause by eczema. I want to try it on my daughter all over her body as a preventative care but not on the times that she is flared up. I understand that you have to apply the water then follow up with a Moisturizer to lock it in, otherwise it will just evaporate
It sure can be enjoyable, but it is not the reason your skin has improved. I spray tap water, then apply the snail mucin toner, followed by cream. My dry, sensitive skin has also vastly improved. It is the snail mucin toner, not the thermal water.
@@arundhatipareek8909 For eczema-prone skin, I suggest using a basic cleanser and a cream from Cetaphil or from La Roche Posay Toleraine line or from Avene.
I use a centella balm - it helps to soothe skin irritation from too much exfoliation or acne but I would not use it for eczema.
Seems gimmicky, but when I was experiencing severe allergic dermatitis, this product was a lifesaver. It didn't sting my skin and I could toss it in my bag and easily spray throughout the day.
Speaking from experience, Thermal Spring Water helped with a superficial burn which happened to me recently. In fact, when I washed the wound in the shower, it hurt a lot! However, Thermal Spring Water did not sting and using Duoderm afterwards helped it to heal quickly. 👍🏼
👍🏼
Thank you for sharing! I have a wound from mountain biking that has a substantial amount of dermis gone. Any water touching it hurts a lot, so this may help me.
@@espem88 Oh no! I hope my experience helps you out and you can leave Duoderm on for up to 72 hours. It will help with wound healing.
I was told to use it after laser treatment, you can tell the difference in it and normal water. Also I used leftover thermal water to dampen my hair so my heatless curls would look better. Spraying my hair with normal water, filtered water, going out after rain, I would get awful frizz, termal water, no frizz.
@@gab1888 Ohh good idea! I have straight hair and always wondered if I could use Thermal Spring Water for it. I will try it out, thank you. 🥰
Dr.Dray..Love that Green on you!💚
Stay Cozy!🧥🧣☕
I love how all the noncommon words are being explained for everyone to really understand the content. So helpful, what a great teacher.
I use to get quite bed acne during summer mainly from sweat and sweat combining with many sunscreen layers, so I started to use thermal water to refresh myself in between applications and in my summer skincare before mosturizer. It really helps to soothe the skin and refresh it
I’ve used all of the brands of spring water. Avene and LRP are the best. You are right, they are a luxury item. I find them most useful after laser procedures. They really help cool down ur skin and reduce the redness. I agree with Dr Dray, they aren’t essential
Lately my cheeks have become much more red and sensitive from Tretinoin I’ve been using for years. I recently started using a bottle of Avene thermal spring water I had from the summer and it has helped soothe the redness and stinging a little. It’s not a huge game changer product for me, but I’m glad I have it.
I may try this as well.
Avène eau thermale spring water is my holy grail, especially in summer. It’s perfect for my very sensitive rosacea prone skin, gets rid of any redness. Also spray it before moisturizer, does wonders for my skin. I do have a few bottles, one travel sized always in my purse, and one full size at home.
👍🏼
That’s exactly what my derm recommended to me during summer days, for my rosacea prone skin 😁
I need to get this for my rosacea☺️
Such a great, informative video- great point about stressors and how in the small French town that likely plays into things! Fascinating!
So glad you made a video on this! I wondered whether on not these thermal spring water products were totally bogus or not. Thank you for reviewing the evidence.
Dr Dray thank you for your honest reviews I have learned so much watching your videos! Really appreciate you.👊
YESSS DRAY im so glad you made a video on this, i bought the avéne hoping it'll stop that irritation from tap water and it did!
amazing explanation as always Dr. Dray. love how you casually point out some realities of their marketing strategy (would have never thought about the “small town in France” situation haha). thank you for the info! 😊
Right? I love the “turns out, hanging in a small town in France is relaxing”. Who’d have thunk😅
Omg, last week I hoped I would see this topic covered! Yay.
I thought this recently too! Go us 😂
Thank goodness, thank you for validating how I feel. I have MCAS and rosacea and this kind of product really helps me. I’m allergic to the chlorine in my tap water, and if I don’t use a spring water spray after I wash my face I will be in pain and irritated. It’s such a deceptively basic product I wouldn’t want to live without.
As you lightly touched on, I use these French sprays before moisturising, but especially before applying Hyaluronic Acid….. and then moisturiser. Can’t have too much facial moisture in cold, windy winter.
Thank you for a brilliant video. I look forward to your daily video releases. Happy Christmas 🎄
I just discovered your channel the other day and really appreciate all the informative videos 😊. I’ve been using thermal water spray for over 7 years and found it significantly helped my skin calm down from redness and irritation from sensitivity and reactions from the wrong products. It was a sample in my skin care gift kit and since then found it very helpful. When I went to Paris few years ago, thermal water sprays were everywhere in the pharmacies. Although my skin is a lot better since I started out with La Roche Posay, I now use Uriage spray after I wash my face in the evening before moisturizing and tactupump. I also find it extremely useful to use after just finishing waxing as it calms the skin instantly and decreases any chance of redness. I’ve also used it on a hot summer day and it’s soothing.
As a man, I swear by La Roche Posay Serozinc - it is the same thermal water spray but with added zinc. Have been using probably for about ten years since shaving (zinc is good post-shave). I now use everyday as a step before and after applying hylauronic acid, to optimise the benefits. My skin feels more dehydrated and dry if I run out and forget to stock up.
thank you for this tip !
It was really refreshing during the last summer heatwave. ps: Green really suits Dr. Dray, I love that sweater on her
Hello DrDray, we use a lot of thermal water spray (in France) specially in summer, anytime, to get the cooling effect of the water. It's a habit we have, maybe because we have a lot of spring water sources, I don't know. Have a good day dear Doctor 😘💐
👍🏼👍🏼
I love this product. I like applying products to a damp face, and sometimes the time it takes me to put my body lotion on dries my face. I feel kinda fancy using it which I like lol. The spray mist is very cooling and delightful. I’m excited for this video 🍿👀
Love my Avene! It’s cleaner than stale plain water in a spray bottle (and cleaner than straight out of the faucet) and because I use it under serums, the fine mist is really ideal. :)
Thank you for another helpful and informative video, Dr. Dray. I have tried all the brands of thermal water and find I like LRP the best. I use it to dampen my skin prior to skin treatments and moisturizer. I would like to wish you happy holidays, best wishes to you.
Thank you! This is so helpful. I’ve really been curious on the marketing-to-efficacy ratio of thermal spring water in skincare.
Glad it was helpful!
Happy Thursday Dr Dray.. see you tomorrow x💙🤩🎄
Hello Dr.Dray and happy Thursday, good morning. They are very hydrating i also tried evian thermal water very soothing and hydrating loved it. Gives as water that nice dewy look really so good. Excellent description about face water the ingredients and the benefits and the shown studies about them. I'm speechless you are the best. 💖😍😇🔝
that tea looks so good, i love matcha!
I use the evian spray and I use it to wet my face before using Cetaphil self foam cleanser in the morning. It helps me beote consistent in my skincare routine so for me it's a total win
Yes! I use the Avene thermal water on my face after a bath. Then apply my skin care. My mom had reaction to a new skin care product that made her face feel itchy. I gave her the thermal water to try and the itching stopped and cleared up quickly.
I purchased a large can of thermal spring water when I was perimenopausal and spending summers at our beach house. I promptly gifted all
my friends with a can as it was just so refreshing. It can be dehydrating on its own so I use it as a reminder to reapply my Avene SPF 50.
I use the Bobbi Brown hydrating toner in my morning skin routine. It’s an infused mineral water that I decant into a spray bottle and I lightly spritz my skin before applying my moisturiser. It’s the favourite part of my skincare routine.
I have very oily skin and use Avéne Therma water spray and I love it. I spray it on then put on a light moisturizer and it's been a game changer for me.
👍🏼👍🏼
Love the Avene one too!
what moisturizer do you use ?
I use the Avene one. I have a water free cleanser I like to follow with the thermal water prior to moisturizer, but I also like using it when I shower. I probably will continue to use it, and I also like it for when I have let my face get too dry before applying moisturizer. I feel it seals in the moisture. It's pleasant to use and not too expensive. Since my skincare routine is very basic and only unscented, fragrance free products, this is my little splurge.
I use it because it’s hot where I live and to cool and calm rosacea in the heat. I don’t like the feel of regular water, but this feels really gentle and refreshing. Thanks so much for all your invaluable advice, I frequently consult your videos before making skin care decisions and am very grateful to you! ☺️
Do you apply it on top of sunscreen during the day ?
Merry Christmas Dr Dray!
I love Pique Tea 😩 I would love your thoughts on the Dr. Ceuracle Vegan Kombucha Essense.
Great video. Thanks, Dr. Dray
Thanks for watching!
I have tried La roche posay water but I like even more the Avene one! I’ve been using it for years. Is calming the skin, I apply it instead of toner. ❤
Love the video! ❤🤗 Is it true that eating carrots daily is beneficial for skin ?
I use Avene thermal spring water before serums and moisturizer. I love it, especially in the summer.
It is not a necessity but it feels so pampering to use thermal water. I tried Vichy and Avene. Haven’t noticed much difference between the two. They do soothe my skin and make my face feel comfy and ready for my moisturizer. Usually I buy whatever is on sale. Both are so nice! Especially in winter when it is super dry here in Canada. It is a very inexpensive way to spoil myself. I also give thermal water as gifts to all my close friends. Will try LP water next time.
Thank you!
I had burned my legs in one summer and the pharmacist sold me the Aveene thermal water spray. I did nothing but to spray my burned legs with it, every couple of hours for a few days and the itching and redness disappeared. Since then I'm a big fan of the Aveene thermal water. I do not know about the LRP, I did not tested it.
Sounds like time was the factor that healed the sunburn
Just a suggestion, try something with colloidal oatmeal, like some (not all anymore, unfortunately!) Aveeno products. Best for sunburn care. I particularly had relief with the bath additive in cool (not cold) water.
Hi Dr Dray I like the Avene or Caudalie better, but they feel good on my rosacea and eczema prone skin. I mist before toner and before anything with HA in it - gives more hydration on the surface for my humectants to grab onto. It's not an essential, but I buy the 300ml cans on offer and they last ages - just a little luxury that feels nice. Best wishes.
ps tap water in a spray bottle does not feel the same and Scottish water is nice soft water, so I can only imagine that hard water would be even less similar. x
I like to apply Avene thermal spring water after showering, before applying my other skin care. Its soothing and refreshing. It feels good during the dry winter months.
Morning Dr. Dray🌷happy thursday. Thanks for all the great info vids!🎅🏻☃️🎄☃️
Morning!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤!!
Happy Thursday, Dr. Dray ☀️🤍😊🫶🏼🌻🌸
👱♀️❤
Same to you!
Happy Thursday Friend!! Have a Wonderful Day and Weekend!!👋🤍💕🤍
So informative! Thanks so much. I use Avéne thermal water. Do you think that would be similar?
I use a quick mist of Avene water spray to my face later in the day to freshen up - then pat a tiny bit of moisturizer atop that with fingertips to dry spots where my makeup has settled a bit (under eyes, cheeks, chin) - ready to go from work to evening! It also is very nice to do whilst traveling. 😊
does applying moisturiser on top of makeup not make it patchy? or do you go in with another layer of makeup? I get dry patches of makeup sometimes but didn't think there was anything to be done
@@blooblahblee
I use a very liquidy light moisturizer, rub it between my fingers and pat it on lightly- I don’t apply more makeup other than maybe a light sweep of blusher and redoing lipstick or lip gloss - it helps my makeup look less “crepey”, as it sometimes gets when I’m traveling or busy all day
I've been using the Avene one, on and off, and I do notice benefits when I'm using it, in terms of reduced redness and swelling with my acne. I also think it helps me with swelling around the eyes, though that could just be because it's cold when it comes out of the can. It also feels good to use, probably not as good as hanging out in a small town in France, but nice. The thing is, I also tried the ones from Uriage, La Roche Posay and Vichy and I don't notice the same benefits with those. The La Roche Posay comes close to the Avene, but the others make seemingly no difference, I don't know whether that's true or not, it could be in my head. I do wish I liked the La Roche Posay one, though, because I prefer the look of their packaging
I love the water sprays such as La Roche Posay Serozinc and Avéne. My skin feels calmer and reduces the itchiness from Menopause skin on my face and back. I will not give these up!
Love it, thanks for sharing. I pick mine up at Marshalls for 7.99.
I have only tried Evian and Caudalie. Women of my mom's generation swear by Evian for hydration and boost of beauty especially during summer but after knowing that water evaporating from skin can be drying, I don't know, I'm a bit hesitant using it now. I guess I'll stick with using it as Dr Dray suggested, before the moisturiser.
I'm using Avene but I like LRP better 😂 I'm dehydrated combo skin. It really helps me to not feel dry. It didn't matter what I used I was chronically itchy and dry. This helped lots
I do use the La Roche Posay thermal water and it is very refreshing. However I don’t use it throughout the day as so many aestheticians have suggested to me, rather, like you said, before the serum and moisturizer I spray it and leave it on for two minutes. Then I pat away the excess and then apply the rest of the products. I don’t feel it’s doing amazing work but it does feel refreshing and better than my tap water which is very hard…
Honestly, I've never even considered using thermal water but after reading the comments, and hearing your thoughts, I'm considering giving it a go. Thanks for the information. Happy Thursday, Dr Dray!! Have a lovely evening. 🎄💟🎄💟🎄
Hi Mary!! I Hope Everything Went Really Well for You Today!! Have a Cozy and Beautiful Evening!! God Bless You Always Sweet Friend!!🙏❤🎄☃️❄️☃️🎄❤🙏
Did you give it a go? How did you find it?
I have used La Roche Posay and Avène mist, but not regularly. I love to put it in my cooler at the beach and mist my face to cool of. Love the fine mist sensation, cannot say about any benefit except luxurious feeling☺️☺️
Hello Dr Dray, could you do a video on what acids in skincare not to use together?
Found this exactly because I wondered thermal water was worth the (quite high) price I saw on one. I am subscribing right now to this channel. Thank you for such clear information.
I’ve been going through a few bottles of the la roche posay thermal spray a month for the last 8 years or so. I’ve recently started Avene and I think I like the Avene better, at least in the big cans. Never get a big can of the lrp lol. I know the effects are minimal but I just love how refreshing it is. I sometimes spray it before putting on a moisturizer or hyaluronic acid serum and I feel it can help. I also follow with it after taking off my tinted sunscreen. It also goes on my psoriasis when it’s inflamed but always followed with a moisturizer. It’s my favorite part of my skincare routine 😊
Why not the big one of lrp?
@@reinerbraun1513 every single bottle I have had of larger bottle has gotten clogged or eventually broke with the sprayer. I don’t know if it’s a manufacturing issue or user error but it’s been every time.
I have a red hot rash on my neck the doc said it was dermatitis it comes and goes and I love this water basically for the coolness of my rash but I think I’ll stop using it I can’t afford it.
Have you tried the one from Vichy? I think it's better than LA Roche Posay and Avene 😊
In the past, I used La Roche-Posay's thermal spring water. I'd rather spend the money on other more-targeted hydration products. Apparently, my LRP HydrAOX sunscreen - Shaka Fluid in other countries - already has that claim in the ingredients list. The water in Brazil is very soft and gentle for the skin, so I am not concerned about the barrier disruption caused by water hardness.
I use the La Roche Posay one in the morning & the Avene one in the evening. I cleanse my face & dab with tissues to remove makeup. Tissues are a vintage old Hollywood secret that I adore. Then I mist my face before applying hyaluronic acid to lock in the moisture. I love the thermal waters & will continue using them.
Love my Evian and I do use it right before my hyaluronic acid and then seal it with a moisturizer, I know I don’t need it but I enjoy it.
I have facial Seb dermatitis and I've gone through many facial mists and the Avene Thermal water mist has done wonders for me. It doesn't leave my skin dry when it soaks and dries up and it doesn't sting, and it definitely helps with the itchiness.
Dr. Dray, can you do a video on how to prevent staph infections? Like the type of products to use? Thanks!
Yes I use this, it's refreshing while sitting in front of a computer screen all day
I like using it on my scalp ( after I washed my hair) also. Its very soothing.
I adore thermal spring water! I definitely notice a difference in how my skin feels. I like to mist my face and body both before applying moisturizer and I find it helps me cope with flare ups of eczema by making the lesions itch much less.
I use the Avene thermal spring water in the morning as a quick mist before applying a hyaluronic acid serum and moisturizer. Once those absorb/dry down into the skin I finish with Sunscreen.
Hi Dr Dray so excited to be here on Thursday for Dr Dray time i live for this❤
Morning!
I use Avene, Evian, LRP, and they have helped my redness so much. But I know why. My tap water is very harsh on my skin and using these waters cuts down on the irritation from using tap water. I use them as my morning cleanse and before steps in night routine. Sometimes I use them as my night cleanse with a microfiber towel.
I use the Avene comparable product before my serums especially the one with HA and I love it.
Definitely agree it's a luxury item that I absolutely love. I've enjoyed both La Roche Posay and Avene's versions. Per your advice, I spray a fine mist all over my face after a shower and immediately apply La Roche Posay's Double Tolerance moisturizer. I enjoy how the misty water makes it so much easier for a rich moisturizer to glide all over my face without rubbing or tugging my sensitive skin.
I suffer from a form of atopic dermatitis around my neck. It flares badly with the heat and humidity and the itch is terrible. I carry a small can of thermal spray in my handbag as well as a small pot of Aveeno skin relief moisturising lotion that I decanter for this purpose. I keep my skin moist with the spray and when that doesn’t settle it I will apply the lotion then the spray. It definitely helps! I’ve used both La Roche & Avene sprays ~ both work well but I would say the Avene is slightly better. Also, the Avene spray comes in a 50ml spray which is ideal for my handbag whereas the smallest La Roche comes in a 100ml spray here in Australia. I’m always on the lookout for these products when they are on special!
I use to apply Avene thermal water on a regular basis when my rosacea was a real problem. It helped me refreshing my skin if I was having a rush. Now that I've learned to manage my rosacea better, I rarely do use it. Only when needed. Great video, Dr. Dray. Greeting from Buenos Aires 🇦🇷
how do you manage it?
I use the Avene version and use it to moisten my face before applying moisturizer. Not sure if I get any of the benefits but I enjoy it.
I also have a spray bottle of my own concoction (tiny bit of aloe with water) in my lunch bag at work. It’s stays in the fridge with a travel size moisturizer. I work long shifts at the hospital, and when I was hot, sweaty, and pregnant it was super refreshing.
Avene soothes my skin, I love their products.
It kind of seems to help when my scalp gets itchy. Happy thursday Dr Dray and peeps!!! 😍🤩
You too!!
I purchase it and use it a lot during allergy season, to help mist away pollen on the eye area and dab away the pollen.
I am using Gülbirlik Rose Water (Gülsuyu) without any additives, extracted from distillation of fresh rose leaves bought in Turkey and I like it. It helps for skin redness and acne, is refreshing. What is your opinion about rose water?
Your cchannel became more safisticated and professional :) Happy Holidays!
thank you! you too
I have used Avene for years now but the can always seems to mess up before it’s empty and I hate that! I bought a stainless steel water bottle and I put Evian in that and spray my whole body with it after I shower. It’s an inexpensive way to get that alpine water :)
I love la Roche Posay but I admit I haven't tried this one yet. But back then I love the one from Avene!
La Roche-Posay and Avene spring waters feel so good under moisturizers. I have terribly oily skin in my 60s, but realize I need to moisturize to protect and hydrate. Putting stuff on my face doesn't feel complete without a spritz.
They might be mostly gimmick but I love the feel 🤗 One of the few fluff items I've been using for since I've been a teen haha. I spray it before putting serums or moisturizer. Tho I realized since I get malassezia around my eyebrows, I try to skip that area cuz keeping it moist around that area only causing me to itch more and redness. (same with facial oils 😬)
i went through multiple of bottles of Avene water. and LRP. now using Eucerin. still have full bottles of Uriage and Vichy ones. it's nice refreshing feel. esp.in summer kept in refrigerator. that's it
which one do you think is the best though?
I remember when Evian was the trend.
I use it now to dampen my skin in between layers of my routine products. Was using rose water, but this is fairly inexpensive and the mist rocks
I remember reading that the reason micellar water and toners were created is because water in France back in the day was so hard (or alkaline? dont remember) that just washing your face with tap water disrupts your skin barrier and dries it out. So I'd reckon thermal water was created for the same reason
Happy Thursday Dr Dray and everyone ! Thanks so much . Have a wonderful day Love to mom and Tybee xoxoxoxo

Happy Thursday 😊

I enjoy using it after shaving. Avene is my go to though. Not sure why, seems more soothing
Please review the Cetaphil and Aquaphore spray moisture products!
Hey Dr Dray, have there been any developments since your last video a few years ago regarding Fordyce Spots and reducing their size/appearance?
I use la roche posay lipikar moisturizers that have the spring water in them. I have no idea if their spring water does anything but their moisturizers (triple repair and daily repair) are awesome.
I have rosacea and I use Avene thermal water. It works well. It calms my redness and flairs of heat on my face.
I love the Laroche posay one. I sprayed after the shower, my idea is that it cancels off the hardness of the water, then I pat dry my skin and follow up with my essence, serum, etc.
