Black people swear by Vaseline and have been using it for ages. Old school will use plain crisco for some things too. They also make a lotion blending it with water. We swear by coco butter for scars and moisture. We use mango butter and shea butter too. My grandma put olive oil on her skin as well. I could go on. Lol
Preach!
Exactly...Crisco is old school for real.😂 They knew the secret for healthy black skin. We need the fatty acids which Shea butter, cocoa butter, and even crisco oils has in it.
My grandma was 83 years old when she passed and she used vasoline until the day she passed away. She swore by it, Jergans lotion and Ivory soap………….
Olive oil is awesome for skin and hair!
I love that you recommend daily products that are readily available and affordable for everyone. Some people don't have lots of money to take care their skin but you are all inclusive to all people. Thank you so much for this. YOu are awesome and I absolutely love your videos.
dollar tree face wipes are great and extremely affordable!
@Jen84601 I used to use face wipes but they're actually not great for your skin. I now use cotton square pads, and micellar water. It's also still good value for money in the long run.
I asked a dermatologist in Houston what her best recommendation for eye cream for aging skin was - and she said Vaseline. I thought she was crazy at first! But I remembered my grandmother’s best friend who died at age 95 who had THE BEST SKIN and little wrinkles - and her secret was Vaseline on her face daily. So I started putting Vaseline on my entire face (not just eye area) after moisturizing before I go to bed - and it’s been a game changer!!!
My mum used Vaseline for decades, she's in her early 60s and looks like shes in her 40s. People have always mistaken her for being much younger than she is, even her younger siblings look much older than she does because they never bothered with skin care whatsoever. Ive known several people to use it and its kept their skin looking great! Its cheap and its effective from my observations
Edit: So you don't need much Vaseline at all, warming it up by rubbing your palms together is good to do too to steer always from how thick and can be and it's best to apply onto damp skin, I myself use a different moisturizer because I can't stand how long Vaseline takes to completely absorb but I definitely recommend it where I can, dirt cheap and works great 👍🏾
Did she apply Vaseline over her face before bed? Tips please on how to apply. Thank you
@@dani23dani85 yeah she did and she'd apply some in the morning. you can use a small amount or a bigger amount it just takes longer because it doesn't completely absorb for a while so smaller amount might be more ideal and putting it on damn skin will lock in moisture any moisturizer should always be applied on damn skin for maximum affect. It's affordable and definitely better than nothing but I use cerave I buy the 1L bottle and can't live without it, but will sometimes use vaseline on my skin in small amounts. It's always in the house lol. And don't rub it in too much, moisturizers are to be left alone to absorb in the skin
Idc what anyone says Vaseline is underrated 😅
Yup I just started slugging everyday 2 weeks ago and this thing is a miracle, I'm surprised not many other people know about how great vaseline is to hold moisture, protect your skin barrier and even accelerates healing in a pinch. Really great product!
My 80+ mother has had the same experience: smooth skin with zero wrinkles. She has used it exclusively for makeup removal and skin care for more than 50 years.
Yes, my mom too! This was her ONLY make up remover and facial skin care product. She had very smooth skin up through her 80s and people always complimented her skin. Her technique was very simple, @dani23dani85 she put a tissue in the Vaseline jar to scoop up a goop of it. Massage it on her face, eyes and neck with her fingers, let it sit while she brushed her hair, then wipe it off with a tissue. She washed her face with soap and water then take a smaller goop of Vaseline from the jar with a tissue and use the tissue to smear it on evenly over her face and go to bed. I remember from when I was a kid, how shiney her face was when she went to bed and woke up.
I started using Vaseline to take off my eye makeup and eventually all of my makeup a long time ago and found that it was keeping my skin way more hydrated than Lancôme was. Haven’t switched back since.
Never thought of removing makeup with vaseline. Do you use a spunge or cotton ball or rounds? I have acne prone dry skin.
@@ursulavandermerwe5511 I have very dry skin too! But the Vaseline seems to really lock the moisture into my skin! I actually use Gerber brand baby wash clothes as they’re effective but still gentle. (I bought a pack of them for $5 on Amazon).
@@ursulavandermerwe5511I have acne prone skin as well and I use albolene to double cleanse daily to get sunscreen off. It’s a giant tub for $10 and lasts forever. Has Vaseline, mineral oil, and 3 other ingredients. I wipe it off with wash cloth and follow up with a cleanser (African black soap)
How does it remove eye makeup lol
Vaseline doesn't hydrate itself, it's an occlusive, so it is locks in moisture.
I use aquaphor for almost everything. Obsessed.
Same 😊
I use petroleum. There is nothing wrong with it. People have used it for years. Awesome video!
Does it cause acne/blemishes?
@@MRDEREVKO not with me.
I love the Cosrx snail mucin. My rosacea loves it.
Same here!
@@mlmartin2922omg i cannot live without it! CosRX snail mucin, the musin cream in jar and the BHA exfoliant! Promise you absolutely amazing!!!!!!!!!!
I’m an an 81 year old bloke with skin like iron. Never used anything like these products but my skin is dry and cracking so I’m up for trying something. Sounds like a bit of the Vaseline might be the place to start. Don’t need any glow, mate.
Why not? With a little bit of glow you would look 30 again.
U can just add a tiny dot of glycerin in ur moisturizer u skin will be moisturised all day👍👍
😂😂
If you can get the CeraVe Healing Ointment (the one in the navy blue tub/tube), do so. It's like the petroleum jelly, but even better, specially if you're planning to use it for your face. You won't regret it.
I strongly recommend the la Roche posay balm B5 for extreme dry skin. My skin was so bad. I had dry patches turning black on my face and would sometimes have small dots of blood. I couldn't even smile with out pain. I swear in two days I noticed a difference with about a pea size. It's pretty thick.
I also use the CeraVe but the big tub for my knees, ankles, and elbows.
Tonight I am going to start the Cosrx96. Only bc I got it on sale. Lol. If I hate it I will be returning it.
I live in an area where our winters are brutal!!!
Good luck on your skin journey.

Love to see how your channel has grown. Well deserved. ️. Love to see how your channel has grown. Well deserved. ️.
Vaseline is great for diaper rash too. Best thing I ever learned from a nurse is “ gramma’s ointment “ 3 tablespoons of Vaseline, 3 tablespoons of cornstarch and 1 teaspoon of desident Mix well and spread on bottom before clean diaper. Clears it up in hours.
@janewrighton9227 I’m pretty sure that you meant 1 teaspoon of Desitin ointment. Right?
The doctor is awesome but you guys give great info too! Thanks everyone 😊
I’ve used Vaseline to remove my eye makeup ever since I was a teenager. I’ve tried other removers and they irritate my skin. Thank you for the recommendations. 😊
Same!
Do you just apply on the skin with your finders? Then wipe/wash off? I've never tried it to remove make up.
@@annapatton4544 apply with fingers and wipe off with Kleenex
*Why do you find the need to use make up in the first place?* 😮😮😢
I grew up using vaseline. Going back to it. Thanks Doc.😊❤
Occasionally I get a bit overzealous with trentinoin and Vit c and end up really irritating my face. The cicaplast balm is the only product that overnight heals my face. Love this stuff!
I love it to prevent flaking from tretinoin. What kind of vitamin c do you use?
In 2013 went to dermatologist for removal of non cancerous growth. I was told to apply Vaseline for healing. I thought I misunderstood and asked the dr. to repeat it. Since then always use for healing wounds.
My skin literally transformed once I started cleansing it with foreo LUNA 3 brush. I love COSRX serum, fantastic!
I saw Marilyn Monroe’s makeup artist interviewed, to get the immaculate skin look for her he would layer Vaseline and powder three or more times on her skin. I don’t know how he managed to get repeated layers without distorting what was already on the skin, but her skin does look amazing on screen.
I prefer multi molecular hyaluronic like NIOD. The nicest Cica I have tried is the Liz Earle.
I’d add one thing to this: L’Oreal Revitalift 10% glycolic acid. It’s a thick serum & great for exfoliating a few times a week. But I also apply a drop to my lips at bedtime, then the Cerave Healing Ointment when I have chapped lips. In the morning the chapped lips are fixed.
I'd love a video in which you explain the order in which & what products to put on in the morning and at night.
Yes!! DEF need one of those! Theres so many out there and they start to get confusing. 😵💫 Can you help us out doc? 🙌
Glad that unlike many reccos by most doctors, you actually talk about affordable brands.
that is the cutest cicaplast ive seen in my life!!!

@@danielsugaimdhi doc, new follower here, love the practical and easy to follow tips. I'm new to layering and have dry skin. So do we put hyaluronic acid after washing face or toner first then HA then Moisturiser then ? I also don't know when to layer retinoids, help please 😊😊😊
Vaseline works Magic!! It’s been a staple in my community since birth. We slather our babies faces with it each morning before school.🥰
Your skin is flawless! So jealous, lol! Thanks for the video! 😍
U r soooo right. Vaseline has always been good......❤
The snail mucin cream in the tub is great for dehydrated skin, especially for dry climates. It's fantastic when locked in with a good inclusive like cerace ointment, it's high in petrolatum for me in my dry norcal/central climate
May 80 year old mother has used petroleum at hs over her moisturizer for over 60 years. She was a trail blazer; she looks 40!
You need to post pics of her face so we all can see what these products have done over time😊
I didn't know that you shouldn't slug with retinol! I've slugged after applying tretinoin and my skin PEELED and couldn't figure out why since I've been using tretinoin for a while. Thanks for the video!!!
Did he say that? I guess I missed it & now need to google.
@@patriciaenglish1027yes, he said that. You shouldn’t apply an occlusive like Vaseline or healing ointment with petrolatum over irritating actives, such as retinoids, vitamin C or exfoliating acids like AHA and BHA, because it will increase absorption and irritation.
Thanks for those great tips. Ive used ROC for 20 years. I love it and it's improved so much over time.
I've heard so much about ROC. What top 2 products would you recommend?
I use cerave healing ointment on my daughter head to toe! It’s the only thing that heals her diaper rash fast too!
Great hacks. Plus, I love that you use sample sizes to show the products. It’s so cute.
Right!?! I’d love to dig thru that cabinet of samples😅
Thank you! The samples are sure cute and fun to feature every once in awhile.🙏
I’m going to start using that spray on my body while damp. What a good idea!!!
Vaseline is the best ❤
But how do you use it? As a moister or on top and last layer? Or just on its own?
@@hettiorsini-rosenberg5615 that depends on your skin type...I use it morning and night on lips and feet...I have never put it on my vase..♥️
@@hettiorsini-rosenberg5615 you can use it every night as a moisturizer if you choose. A lot of people use it for "slugging" which starts with a cleansed face, then you can dampen it slightly and add hyuaralic acid if you choose, Rosehip oil, or just a mist of water and then apply a thin layer of Vaseline all over your face and neck. You can start the process before you go to bed, or right before bedtime. I place a towel on my pillow. The next morning you will have very hydrated skin.
Vaseline is WAY cheaper that these other products folks! If it does something similar don’t waste your money…
Agree its cheaper but I just don't feel its thick enough as Aquaphor. It absorbs quickly while I find Aquaphor really provides a protect layer that lasts.
@@MyCrownstarAquafor also contains mineral oil, which some people can't use.
@@MyCrownstaralso Aquaphor has extra moisturizers and benefits. A jar lasts forever and worth a few $ more.
I used Vaseline all through the height of COVID. Healthcare provider here worked in critical care unit and with all the PPE needed, my face was super dry
Gramma always used Vaseline on her face nightime. Zero wrinkles.
The black is so bold and dramatic. This was beautiful.
A friend to told me about using cold pressed coconut oil for wounds, and I tried it and it works really fast. I was completely amazed!
I love the moisturizing ointment from Vanicream. I can't use aquaphor. My skin grows a fast tolerance to products. But Vanicream has been great.
I use Vicks on my feet

I have lanolin allergy. Also, to anything in the Mycin family
Dr Sugai, your skin looks amazing, thanks for all contents,
Great video. Dr Sugai, how come HYPOpigmentation on the face is never a topic to discuss? HYPERpigmentation is always discussed.
Hypo is an issue and there's nothing ever talked about on how to fix it
Omg, the mini Aquaphor spray adorbs ! Lol 😅
I really love your channel. You make complicated ideas much easier to understand
Just found your Channel- love it. I'm in Portland OR one state over
My concern is that petrolatum is not fully refined in the U.S. so the very carcinogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are very present in them. What does your Harvard medical training say about that? Thanks.
He clearly said it is fully refined, clean and safe multiple times in the video
I’m 100% allergic to Lanolin. But I also have a very advanced case of Sjogrens.
I was diagnosed with eczema and my hands never heal for more than a few days. I’m going to try these suggestions. Thanks Doc!
Make a lotion blending plain crisco and water. Apply often. Slough it on at night and sleep in gloves. “Washing” your hands with honey/ manuka honey is best will change your life as well. Old southern folks swear by it and it works.
I have severe eczema. I use Eucerin Eczema Relief lotion. It has really cured my eczema on my hands and elbows.
15 seconds in your skin is beautiful, Omg too bad im in NYC i would definitely visit your office. My face is nice but underneath my chin i have dark spots. I received the th COSRX in today will see what happens.
Thank you for sharing all the information! ❤
Thank you for watching!!
Vaseline heals my cuts and scrapes really fast and it prevents scarring too - I don't have any scars after using Vaseline! It's magic!
Cicaplast is amazing!
I use the Corsx Hyaluronic acid. I really like it.
I love the La Roche Posay Cicaplast but as an oily skinned acne prone gal, ultimately it does cause more clogged pores than Vaseline which is totally amazing. I suspect my skin doesn't like the rich Shea butter in Cicaplast (it's fine for body) - Vaseline is just one ingredient and it's perfect!
Great video as always, Love your channel!!!
I love petroleum jelly!! Thank you for great info!🇿🇦

Great video! Can you do a skincare video about skincare options without dimethicone? I have a terrible reaction to it and it’s hard to find products that don’t use dimethicone that are still good for my eczema. Pure Vaseline doesn’t cut it for me most days
Try cod liver oil that has vitamin A , D , fish oil, in capsul form , and ingest 2 a day .do not exceed the recommended amount because vitamin A could be toxic. I use the Jamieson (Canadian brand ).
I am not a doctor.
Do not take any other form of fish oil while you are taking cod liver oil .
Do you recommend putting vaseline on the face as a moisturizer? Is it safe under the eyes?
Dr. Sugai uses a tiny amount under his eyes. You can use it as a moisturizer, however I would reserve it for nightime use.
Remember that Vaseline only keeps in moisture, it doesn’t hydrate or moisturise on its own. You need to use other skincare products first like hydrating serums and moisturisers, then seal in with Vaseline. It's safe under the eyes.
I use the Cicaplast balm on my hands. I am a nurse and it's very dry and Cold in Alberta so my hand sting with hand sanitizer and soap. This balm feels so good on my poor hands.
Glad I found you! Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for all you do!!!

hello, new subscriber here from the Philippines. i love watching your videos especially tips on what brand of retinol to use
Doc your skin looks Great love ❤love❤ the info thank💥
Never get tired to watch your channel ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this channel and all your recommended products. I have been using Aquaphor for years but thought I'd give Vaseline a try. I just assumed Vaseline wasn't that effective boy was I so wrong. I stated applying on my hands at night and ....wonders!! I noticed Aquaphor would just stay greasy on my hands but not see any improvement on my extremely dry hands. I started using Vaseline and noticed soft subtle hands. I swear could not believe it.
Excellent hacks!! Just subscribed!❤
I love cicaplast for my rosacea, and any Derm issues, I also have used Roc HA caps but a little expensive. CeraVe healing ointment is great to layer over my eye cream at night and my cuticles. I used it all the time working in a dermatologist office. Love the samples too!
I also have rosacea, how do you use it, thank you!
Great info. They send Vaseline to African countries for lots of rashes, and skincare.
I have been contemplating for a week/doing research on if I should incorporate snail mucin to my regimen and then you uploaded this video! Love your channel so much thank you for all that you do!! 🩵
I love the CosRx Snail Mucin, the one he showed. I have sensitive skin that gets red or breaks out from pretty much any product I try on my face, but the snail mucin doesn't have that effect. Like he said, make sure to put on a clean, damp face for the most benefit and what he didn't mention, also let it set into your skin for about 5-10min before you put any other products on top of it, because it is an skin essence, it helps other products soak into skin better than without using an essence.
I know ppl are grossed out about it, but it’s triple filtered. There’s a video on here somewhere that shows the entire process. I love it especially for cold & dryer temps and redness. Particularly for me around my nose from blowing it. I use it about every night & day after all my serums and before a thicker moisturizer & sunscreen. Honestly the one item I go thro & purchase the most. If you’re prone to redness or dryness it’s amazing. The texture really isn’t too gross either on the Cosrx Snail Cream 95 (think like a milky gel moisturizer), but Peach Slices has a snail line too that has it as an ingredient vs just straight mucin if you can’t hack it. Haven’t tried those but has good reviews too.
@@mlmartin2922 Thank you so much this was super helpful!! Also, with my research I am finding that it IS NOT harmful to the snails that was my biggest concern, but then I saw another dermatologist say it can be tough extracting the mucin so I have been worried about that. Do you know if CosRx is cruelty free? Thanks for your help I really appreciate it! Everything breaks me out so it was nice to see that it didn’t have that effect on you!
@@jillianmaloney3798 Thank you so much this was super helpful! I’ll have to check out the video because I was worried about the snails well being!

I use Cosrx Snail Mucin after medical Microneedling and it worked awesome. It was a Derm’s recommendation to use it after Microneedling.
unfortunately k-beauty products in general and snail mucin is very expensive where I live
? Can hyaluronic acid be used by people who live in dry climates?
Yes it can. Just apply to damp skin so it holds on to that hydration, then seal it in with a moisturiser. At night time you can add Vaseline on top of the hyaluronic acid and moisturiser.
Always so much information ! Thank you
What are your thoughts on using castor oil on face and body?
Cerave healing ointment, would make my skin feel good for two days. And then I'd get these tiny bumps or comedones, which would go away as soon as I stopped using the product. Idk what to to. I would love to continue using it, since I don't want my money to go to waste. But, I think the product isn't suiting my skin.
You can use it on areas where you have drier skin and don’t get those bumps, or on the body. It’s especially good after a shower on dry patches like elbows, knees and heels or irritated skin, scratches and things like that.
