I was peacefully pulled over on my Honda Sabre 1100 by the Ark. S.P. in the 1980s near West Memphis. When the officer walked up with an empty holster I said "Where's you gun". He slapped his hip and said "damn, I left it at the jail!" He smoked his tires on a U-turn...and I got out of a speeding ticket.

The whole thing is disgusting, starting with the very made-up tone the narrator is using. It is all about demonstrating that those police officers have the power and the right to decide on such an insanely dangerous pursuit on the highway, making it a far more dangerous place than it was on the first place due to a foolish rider. Absolutely irrational! Frightening, actually.
And the way they treat the guy when he was caught is the most telling part. They are acting out their suppressed aggressivity on the guy.

Some time later he tweeted himself going around 100 on city streets. And yet he has the gall to say police are out to get motorcyclists. If you don't do the crime, cops will leave you alone just fine, you know?
As far as I know, he may still be alive; he just decided he didn't want to be my friend back in 2015, and I moved out of Colorado years after. But if he were to be 6 feet under at some point because of being stupid, it would not surprise me.

Sorry, as a former police officer while attending college, as I get older,. I am steadfastly opposed to high speed chases in all but the most serious of crimes, i.e. felonies. I grew up in So. Cal, the high speed chase capital of the world, so I speak from experience. When I was hired, we were screened for our ability to judge situations, use logic, discernment and consider the safety of the public as our paramount concern being "peace officers". Today's "law enforcement officers" embrace a far different philosophy which is difficult to justify. To pursue anyone over 120 MPH in traffic or in urban settings is sheer madness! We were taught by senior officers to constantly weigh risk versus benefit, and there certainly isn't any benefit to the public in continuing such chases that put innocent people's lives in significant danger.
Chases in congested cities are especially worrisome. It seems to me that contemporary cops "drive" suspects into placing others in harms way, and that cannot be condoned by anyone who upholds their oaths to protect and serve. High speed chases are a modern game of high stakes cat and mouse that that the wisest prefer not to play.

Yup. That’s pretty accurate. Usually you can get through traffic like that and gap the cop car enough that he can’t see you when you exit. But that cop was rolling. The kid needed to go a lot faster and split lanes. If you’re not running 160+, those cruisers will stick with you on the highway.
Take an exit and get to a curvy back road, and make a lot of turns… then park it somewhere and hide til it cools down. I’ve had to wait in the woods for hours and hours several times.

I did the same thing when I was young with my bike honda 1000rr in Turkey. I fled from traffic patrol. The reason I fled was the exhaust system (akrapovic) on bike, which makes more sound (illegal) but I was using that for safety to be noticed by other drivers and the fine was around 100USD , and i had my tag on bike (with tag on bike they sent fine to your house) I was immediately chased by motorcycled police , after 5 mins of running, I was like wtf I am doing I stopped myself. Police was shocked when they arrive I was parked on right lane. I told them , I did not hear any warnings because of engine sound and helmet. They did nothing. I paid like 1000USD and lost my driver license for 2 months. That was all. No court. I still don't know why I fled but it was a friction of second to determine. When you drive motorcycle you act weird :) I was given tons of penalties similar to this. And when I was fleeing it was amazing :) I felt like most wanted criminal.

Pursuing a motorcyclist guilty of lane splitting at 142 mph on a busy highway is more risky than letting him go. There was recently a family killed in Canada by a suspect being chased by police into oncoming traffic. In this case is catching a traffic law violator worth causing a potentially fatal crash?

    • @volvo09
      @volvo09 11 годин тому

Yeah, it's not like he was a wanted felon with a bad history, he was just speeding, putting his own life at risk by lane splitting at high speed.
a typical accident for that type of riding would be the bike rear ending a car or sideswiping a car that didn't see him while changing lanes, very little risk of harm to any driver and high risk of harm or death to the rider.

I retired from L.E. way back in 2008 & even then smart Agencies had VERY strict rules on high speed vehicle pursuits... especially motorcycles.
They realized that every second of every pursuit puts lives in danger & that the need to apprehend the violator MUST outweigh the risks to the innocent members of the public, the Officers involved, & the violator.
A 140+mph pursuit over a minor traffic violation is INSANE... especially when it's a motorcycle.
Unless the guy is a professional stunt driver the odds of them crashing & dying are close to 100% & it's simply not worth it over a traffic violation.

Not only does it look suicidal, but as you observe, it's incredibly dangerous to the public.
That adrenaline rush is precisely why modern Agencies require that a Supervisor who is not involved authorize or terminate all vehicle pursuits....
Because the stresses involved absolutely require an objective decision of whether or not the need to apprehend the violator outweighs the risks to everyone involved.
My former Agency rethought their pursuit policies after an innocent bystander was killed. Good move on their part, but it was cold comfort to that poor guy's family. He died over a minor routine traffic violation that he wasn't even involved in.

In their defense, traveling at those speeds, you wouldn't hear the sirens for very long before they are passing you. Maybe if they have that "rumbler" thing added to the sirens, but it is surprising how quiet most sirens are at a distance. And vehicles these days do such a good job with noise canceling or shielding that it makes it really tough to hear a siren until it is right behind you. Just recently I had a EMS suv behind me but I had no clue because I was jamming out to some good tune and couldn't hear the siren, it was the constant bursts of white in the flash pattern of his lightbar that finally caught my eye.

@@cockyhemi-123hardly. The cop spent 90% of the pursuit in the emergency lane, where no cars were. With lights you can see a mile away. The bike did the most dangerous thing you can do on the road, other than the speed, which is passing on the right and lane splitting. Your tendency is to pull to the right when scared or confused, and that bike didn’t hat to about 500-600 cars. A car cannot see the bike at the speed it was traveling, until it’s too late. Now in the end, the biker would have died more easily than the car rider, which is fine, it’s an accepted risk the biker took so it’s all part of the game, but I’ve seen an accident where a bike did kill a driver, when his body ejected through the side window. The helmet kicked the car driver. I’ve run twice in my life in a car, long ago, and I’m 1-1 as far as escaping. But I never did anything that endangered others, never on a road this busy. I don’t play Russian roulette with other lives, only my own, you have to accept dying as part of the game, which is why no sympathy if I died, or when others do. 🤷🏼

All those lesser inclusive crimes are there to add aggravating circumstance to the major crimes resulting in a sentence recommendation higher, often much higher, than just the major crimes alone would have warranted. Right or wrong, the police and the court system uses this "trick" to "lawfully" impose much harsher sentences than it would otherwise be able to.

Not passing in the passing lane has been illegal here, they don't enforce it much though. It's usually an entitled person, a person browsing or texting (safest lane to drive slow in and text) or an old person who doesn't give a crap about anyone else, for that matter, the other offenders don't give a crap either. Courtesy is slipping away from our culture.
