Like all stereotypes, they have a kernel of truth but are also greatly exaggerated. Deathcore is teeming with riffs and is mostly not the breakdown fest elitists will have you believe.

@@TheHumanDescensionist well, most of modern deathcore is pretty much technical nowadays (And Hell Followed With, The Raven Autarchy, Signs of The Swarm, Angelmaker, Shrine of Malice, Shadow Of Intent etc). When it comes to breakdowns it really depends, some bands like to go for the classy 0-0-0-0 way while some other have pretty nasty 'complex' breakdowns.
Grindcore for me. Being a drummer from the 90’s Death Metal scene, I just prefer the drum patterns and it proves that you don’t have to play a million miles an hour ALL of the time. Also I find that the riffs are more memorable. Great video as always.

its interesting to witness the differences in drumming technique between genres. in deathcore, hammer blasts are super common, while split blasts are the predominant form of blastbeat in grindcore (and other more extreme hardcore subgenres). i tend to prefer split blasts because they produce more notes per beat, resulting in a more chaotic and noisy blastbeat, while hammer blasts sound heavier and are more technically challenging. i consider this one of the few ways to distinguish the genres from eachother.
Both genres are children of death metal and hardcore punk, and yet both genres can at times have some very territorial and tribalistic fans that wish death upon the other. C'mon guys we're siblings!
It’s funny how when you mix punk and metal to get grindcore it’s generally fine. But when you mix punk and metal slightly differently to get deathcore, you’re a poser and a fake emo metalhead. Hardcore punk has been a huge part of extreme metal even in the early days. I wanna tell some of these guys to listen to something like Altars of Madness or Left Hand Path and try to tell me it’s completely devoid of punk influence. Same goes for Black Metal, which in the beginning was basically just evil and satanic sounding hardcore punk.

I sorta gotta turn off my brain when I listen to stuff like modern Suicide Silence or Brand of Sacrifice. And don’t even get me started on the recent “fake slam” trend that’s pretty much ruined any hope deathcore had of being a respectable genre in the eyes of most.

I like both styles equally, but now I listen to a lot more deathgrind and goregrind (occasionally pornogrind) more than normal grindcore. Deathcore kinda saved through my high school years, so everything before 2011, I still have a soft spot for, lol. 😅 What I wish would be more common is deathgrind/deathcore fusion bands, imagine a fast-paced lo-fi thrashy punk riff with some blast beats and feedback, then it all stops and goes slow with the most filthy dissonant or slam breakdown in under two minutes or less. More like this please, Hails. \m/
All of this is pretty simple on my side: as long as I like what I hear I don't care who's calling a band death metal or core. I like bands who feel home prior in Death Metal, rather than Core, such as Thy Art is Murder, Whitechapel or Carnifex. What their FANS refer them to or reputation is, I couldn't care less! For me it's all Deaths Metal, since this is where I consume and produce. That's it to me at least. Good video btw!!!

Thanks for posting a video that shows how awesome deathcore can be. I never understood the hate it got. I get why people don't like metalcore, but deathcore to me was always just as extreme as thrash, death metal, and grindcore.

I like lower tuned guitars but i can tell the player on the left just from listening it sounds like a bass and the player on the right has more feel and emotion! I love using the standard chords dropped and not the the hold one finger technique. Great video by the way!

deathcore is more clean/polished while grindcore is raw. also deathcore is basically metalcore mixed with death metal while grindcore is a punk subgenre
I feel that Grindcore and Deathcore are related in the same way that Cross-Over Thrash and Metalcore are related. Between crossover thrash and metalcore, you have groove metal and straightedge which really laid down a foundation for metalcore. Between grindcore and deathcore, you have metalcore and technical death, which really laid down that foundation. Without grindcore there is no deathcore, since both styles contain the same essential building blocks (hardcore punk and extreme metal).
Its funny how people complain about deathcore when the riffs sound similar to any onther extreme metal subgenre, some old heads just like to judge young people by their looks (scene kids)

I like both styles equally, but now I listen to a lot more deathgrind and goregrind (occasionally pornogrind) more than normal grindcore.
Deathcore kinda saved through my high school years, so everything before 2011, I still have a soft spot for, lol. 😅
What I wish would be more common is deathgrind/deathcore fusion bands, imagine a fast-paced lo-fi thrashy punk riff with some blast beats and feedback, then it all stops and goes slow with the most filthy dissonant or slam breakdown in under two minutes or less.

All of this is pretty simple on my side: as long as I like what I hear I don't care who's calling a band death metal or core. I like bands who feel home prior in Death Metal, rather than Core, such as Thy Art is Murder, Whitechapel or Carnifex. What their FANS refer them to or reputation is, I couldn't care less! For me it's all Deaths Metal, since this is where I consume and produce. That's it to me at least.

I like lower tuned guitars but i can tell the player on the left just from listening it sounds like a bass and the player on the right has more feel and emotion! I love using the standard chords dropped and not the the hold one finger technique. Great video by the way!

I feel that Grindcore and Deathcore are related in the same way that Cross-Over Thrash and Metalcore are related. Between crossover thrash and metalcore, you have groove metal and straightedge which really laid down a foundation for metalcore. Between grindcore and deathcore, you have metalcore and technical death, which really laid down that foundation. Without grindcore there is no deathcore, since both styles contain the same essential building blocks (hardcore punk and extreme metal).
