I’m apparently quite thin, and after years of thinking I am fat, and years of working through that, I’ve gotten to the point where the person in the mirror is confusing and a stranger. And a moving target. She seems mutable. She can be anything at any time. And that sucks. Trust your doctors. They know if you’re doing ok.
I don’t understand body dysmorphia. When I look up its definition it says things about perceiving flaws or fixating on flaws in one’s appearance or feeling people are critical of them and they are of major importance and causes preoccupation and anxiety. The definitions say nothing about perceiving a different overall body size than what the mirror shows but I understand that’s what you mean in this context. I find the subject fascinating. I’d love to talk with someone at length about this who has this condition. When I look at the mirror and I see the reflection - that’s me. It’s just physics & optics. Sure it’s a different viewpoint that I don’t normally get when looking at myself but it’s never a surprise or disappointment or always in one certain direction such as thinner or heavier. For me looking in the mirror simply confirms or reinforces what I already know or should know. If someone with BD always sees a different person than they imagine themselves to be then of course that’s a concern. One or the other - either the mirror is wrong or the mental attitude. As a logical thinking person I would think it’s easy to figure out which is the correct one. It’s self-correcting in a sense because the only thing that can be wrong is one’s perception. Mirrors and physics don’t lie. It’s almost too simple. So again, I’m not trying to make light of any of this. I’d love to have an in-depth discussion, though not here. I am fascinated by human behaviour and psychology.
What you have is body dismorphia, Amber is just delusional. She doesn't fit the criteria for body dysmorphic disorder because BDD is about focusing on perceived or slight flaws. But Amber seeing herself as smaller than she is is seeing herself as better than she actually is, which is simply a delusion.
Soooo this is me!!! I will try things on, pick an outfit out, look in the mirror and be like "ooh okay girl" and just feel so confident and pretty.. Later on I'll see myself in a picture or video someone else took and be completely crushed and embarrassed.. Look like a whole whale!

I'm convinced that Torrid actually hates super morbidly obese people like Amber, because none of these clothes look good on Amber at all except MAYBE that hi/low dress and that was a stretch in more way than one. The way those tunic shirts look, the corners are stretched strangely around her rear, that can never look right on someone her size. Big people deserve to feel good and confident in their clothes too, but this ain't it sis. If you’re buying that many clothes, you have NO plan to lose weight. When I went from 100kg to 55kg (go me) I only bought clothes if I needed something for a special occasion. I lived in gym clothes till I got to my weight now. It’s a waste of money buying clothes when you’re seriously losing weight!

(Or any synthetic fabric) Some manufacturers and shops mislabel polyester as rayon. I've even had one shop pass off polyester as silk.

NGL we have similar taste in clothes. There are things she got that I would definitely buy but that place is kind of expensive for me. I shop in Uniqlo and H&M

Order larger sizes for goodness sake. If it strains and shows all your rolls or won't cover your butt (back fat) then it doesn't fit. If I were this large, I probably would wear a mu mu.
As a plus size gal, I've accepted myself, but never stopped trying. I'm 64, and between an hourglass and a pear. There are things I can wear well, but I know what doesn't work. I also know what my sizes are. Not everyone looks good in body con....most large women don't. I think that she may not know what is going to work and actually buying the correct size. I hope that she discovers this soon. I don't like seeing ridiculed for her poor choices.
Amber eats her feelings and then obsessively shops. You can tell when she is doing her "hauls" that she is getting a rush. I know polyester and anything with even a hint of polyester 1% will make me get a rash in the heat. (Or any synthetic fabric)
Some manufacturers and shops mislabel polyester as rayon. I've even had one shop pass off polyester as silk.

Sometimes it appears that the shirt/dress really CAN cover her butt, but she just isn't physically able to pull it down. Look how her arm struggles to even pull the shirt/dress down. If she gets even bigger, she's gonna need someone to dress her.

As a plus size gal, I've accepted myself, but never stopped trying. I'm 64, and between an hourglass and a pear. There are things I can wear well, but I know what doesn't work. I also know what my sizes are. Not everyone looks good in body con....most large women don't. I think that she may not know what is going to work and actually buying the correct size. I hope that she discovers this soon. I don't like seeing ridiculed for her poor choices.
