  • Hello and Hey! Today we're going to be messing around with 5 different multiclass options for Baldur's Gate 3. From simple and straightforward to more complex and outside of the box. We have some fun options for you today.
    Still waiting on how multiclassing spellcasting classes together actually works. Don't want to spend too much time theorycrafting something just for the speculation to be completely off.

    As a forever DM for the a few different groups, these look quite familiar lol. Triple charisma caster multiclasses are absolutely terrifying - especially when paladin smites get thrown into the mix.
    Really excited to actually be able to give some of these broken things out in BG3 though 🤩

      Haha. Same to a much lesser extent for me. I know a handful of people that are interested in playing, but if I don't run the game, it'll never happen. Haven't really gotten to stretch my legs as a player.
      Not a replacement for a good session with friends, but at least with this you can do all the degenerate min-max power gaming you want without taking something away from anybody else.

    Keeping in theme. Way of Shadows Monk 6/Assassin Rogue 3/Gloomstalker Ranger 3
    As a bonus action you can teleport around to shadows, get 2 attacks in an action, a number of shadow/illusion spells fueled by Ki (so short rest to get them back)
    Assassin Rogue gives the auto-crit on surprise and 2d6 damage there and a ton of skills/expertise
    Goomstalker Ranger grants an extra attack on the first round that also does an extra D8, darkvision/boosted darkvision if you already have it, Hunters Mark and a fighting style.
    Also, combat aside, this is a HELL of a skill monkey and effective rogue for traps/locks and, potentially, persuasion

      The only thing giving me pause, and I do mean me playing it, not the concept itself. Is its reliance on being in dark places (for the teleport). There are already a lot of confirmed locations in Act 1 that are dark, but I would hate to go 6 Levels into Shadow Monk and not be able to use that feature for a lot of moments in the broader game. Which I obviously have no idea the frequency. But that's what is giving me pause! The unknown.
      And I know I could just re-spec if needed, but there's so many things I want to play, too. So I probably need to stay off that screen as much as possible... lol. Sounds really fun, though! Good luck with it.

      @@Ghostzapper With the Shadow Monk, at level 3, for 2 Ki use the following spells; Darkness, Dark Vision, Pass without Trace and Silence. Also the Minor Illusion cantrip if memory serves.
      Now, you wouldn't be able to see through the magical darkness sadly, but if you are just trying to get around/hide it would be pretty useful. Gloomstalker also makes you invisible while in darkness to those that could normally see through it. Nice little bonus ^_^

      @@Tillman581 I'd be on the lookout for items that grant a use of Misty Step to sorta accomplish the teleport things of the Shadow Monk, too. Don't get the spells you mentioned, obviously.
      That's a price to pay for getting something fairly similar (if much more limited) to a 6th level feature, though.
      Just sorta thinking 'out loud' with this comment. Sorry, haha.

      @@Ghostzapper I cannot speak for the full game but in early access, shade from trees and other shadows out in the world appear to count as 'Dim-light' which would imply you can technically walk into a shadow in daylight and be able to tp to another shadow. I'm banking my whole playthrough on that factor lol.
      8 Monk (Way of the Shadow) - 4 Ranger (Gloomstalker) is what I'm going to rock.

  • @UlissesSampaio

    Ranger 2 (for Hunter's Mark), Druid Spores 2 (for Spreading Spores): you can get +2d6 extra damage per attack. Options:
    A) Add Rogue 3 Thief (for Fast hands) and dual-wield, and you can attack 3 times per turn (often adding +3d6 sneak attack on top). Going Ranger up to lvl 5 gives you extra attack (thus 4 attacks total per turn while dual-wielding).
    B) Fighter 2 allows action surge (1 extra attack(s) once per short rest). Fighter 3 Battle Master's Riposte can potentially give up to 4 extra attacks per short rest. As a perk, also gain a second passive fighting style (e.g. Defence). Fighter 5 gives extra attack (not cumulative with Hunter 5's)
    So, I might try Astarion R3,H2,D2,F5.

    • @UlissesSampaio
      @UlissesSampaio 11 місяців тому

      Also maybe cool:
      Barbarian 5 Berserker (for Frenzied Strike, Enraged Throw), Rogue 3 Thief (for Fast Hands). Pick Great Weapon Master (GWM) feat.
      While in Frenzy, each turn you get: Attack, Extra Attack, Frenzied Strike, and Enraged Throw. Make the first attack Reckless Strike to get an advantage on all.
      Due to GWM, If you crit in one of the first 3 attacks (26.5% chance or 27.6% if Halfling if started with Reckless Strike) or if you kill something, the 4-th can be another attack.
      Add Fighter 3 Champion to make crit chance on first 3 strikes 46.8% or 48.6% if halfling.
      Bonus: Fighter 2+ gives an action surge. This gives (once per short rest): Attack, Extra Attack, Attack, Extra Attack, Frenzied Strike, and Enraged Throw. Since you will likely crit, GWM likely will make the last one into an Extra attack.
      So my main will likely be B5,R3. Maybe respect later to B3,R3,F6.

    Haste should only apply a hasted action which is only one attack. So the gloomstalker can only get a 7 attack nova round.

      Yeah, just ridiculous. And if they do the thing with multiclassing that starts letting casters add levels of different classes together without falling behind on spell levels (like people are guessing, but I'm not sold). Then tough to consider bringing too many martials along at all. ;_;

    Worth noting that the Warlock's Pact of the Blade is not the same as a Warlock Hexblade, which will not be in BG3 at launch. The closest thing is the Lifedrinker Eldritch Invocation at level 12, but by that point you can't really do much multiclassing. If Larian ever does add more subclasses like the Hexblade into the game though, I'd recommend running a Hexblade Warlock 4/Oathbreaker Paladin 8. That way you automatically gain double your Charisma modifier on melee damage rolls, as well as providing your Charisma modifier as a bonus to all fiends and undead nearby. (Very useful since Pact of the Chain Imps can attack in BG3, and you can have Wyll/Gale adding to your army of heavy hitting cannon fodder.)
    EDIT: Nevermind, Pact of the Blade is like a mini-Hexblade in BG3! I was working off of my DND knowledge here lol

    • @Ghostzapper
      @Ghostzapper  11 місяців тому +1

      It doesn't have all the goodness of Hexblade, but Pact of the Blade will use CHA instead of STR or DEX for weapons in the 'release' version.
      The way your wrote the comment, I'm unsure if that's what you were contesting, or just differing on the viability of the substitution. Either way, fair play. I like the suggestion.

      @StairFacts 11 місяців тому +2

      @@Ghostzapper Oh, my bad! I had no idea that they changed how Pact of the Blade works in BG3, I should have looked into that more beforehand. In that case, you have even more freedom for your Warlock patron! This could even be a great build for Wyll to use... Assuming party members can become Oathbreaker Paladins that is. If not, Paladin of Vengeance also works.

      I would also like to add that multi-classing at level 12 is viable because respeccing characters is possible for cheap in-game at virtually any point. You could theoretically run the whole game leveling paladin until 11 for example, then at level 12 respec to paladin 9 / warlock 3, for only 100 gold. Something you can't do in tabletop

      I would assume that this works in BG3, as they have simplified the game a bit, but this doesn't work in 5e RAW.
      Hunter's mark only procs on weapon attacks, and while monk's unarmed strike counts as a "melee weapon attack", that's different from a "weapon attack" (aka an attack with a weapon).
      EDIT: Started doubting my knowledge and looked into this. At least according to a certain Crawford's tweet, melee weapon attack is indeed just a subcategory of weapon attacks.
      TLDR; I was wrong, carry on

      An unarmed strike isn't a spell attack. It is therefore a weapon attack."

    • @Ghostzapper
      @Ghostzapper  11 місяців тому

      Yours is a good one, have 4 attacks every turn starting from Fighter 5/Rogue 3! Which I think is the most you can consistently get without resources.
      Other options, if number of attacks is purely the main focus, would be like... Gloomstalker Ranger 5/Fighter 2/Thief 3/Monk 2. If someone uses Haste on you, or you consume a Potion of Speed before. Then on the first turn of combat, if you action surge and dump both of your Ki points.. you could attack 13 times on a turn, (the last 4 being unarmed strikes, however).
      I'll let you decide the practicality of that, LOL. Only get 1 Ability Score Improvement with that "build". Think Fighter 8/Rogue 4 does what you want as good as anything else that will get you that many attacks. 4 ASIs will feel real nice, too.

    I’m lost on what you’re saying…. 8/4 on one character? Or level 8 and 4 characters???????

      On one character, yes! That's the number of levels you would take in a given class. Character Level 12, but with 8 levels of Fighter and 4 levels of Barbarian, for example.
