One my favorite and many many rimworld storys was the time my 3 person colony had two colonists fall in love and get engaged. Midway trough the engagement the guy lost his nose in a shootout and got the disfigured trait (-20 to relationships i think) This was bad because he was already ugly so the women started hating him. Shortly after he recovers from his wounds they got married. 3 hours later the bride gets in a social fight with him and because of her toxic fang emplants ends up bitting her husbands left arm off. She declares herself divorced right then and there and then like an hour later the 3rd colonist chats her up while hes mid way through stopping the bleeding and they become lovers right in front of him while hes still immobile due to the pain.

I'll never forget the savage wildwoman who showed up at my colony on my first game of RimWorld. She hung out in my meat locker for days before I figured out I could tame her. My Doctor was the only one with sufficient skill for the task, and in the process of taming her they fell in love.
She ended up being amazing no only at melee combat, but also at working with plants and ended up being the backbone of my farming operation, and of course her and the doctor were married.
Then a group of cannibal pirate raiders came, my small colony held them off as best we could, and this former wild woman was my front line, valiantly fighting to keep them from overrunning us, while the rest of my colonists fired from behind nearby cover.
Many of my colonists were wounded, and she was almost dead. Her husband the doctor rushed her immediately back to the medical bay, and others grabbed the fallen artist and fallen crafter as well. The doctor tried to save his beautiful wife's life but sadly she passed away while he was working in her.
He flew into a psychotic rage immediately and started smashing everything he saw, walking around in a daze just hitting things in the hospital while two other patients laid there in their medical beds.
By the time he came out of his rage it was too late, all of the patients had died.
These three colonists had been friends with so many people, and held important roles. Everyone's mood plummeted, psychotic breaks became common place. The harvest was not brought in. New things stopped being crafted. The electrical system broke down. Diseases went untreated. Livestock escaped.
The whole colony went into a sad death spiral and it was beautiful. All because the doctor's wife was killed in front of him.
At that point I was hooked and have sunk hundreds more hours into this game.

Each mental break is different, some just wanders around ignoring orders, other set fire to stuff. Death of a friend/loved one is especially heavy on morale. The death of the wife triggered a chained reaction.

Ah Rimworld. the game I come back to on a regular basis.
I think my favorite rimworld story would be when the colony grandma saved the day. All in all, the colony was in a good spot. Plentiful harvest, good hunting and a full store house, after the first winter nearly starved us out. Disaster struck as one colonist after the other fell ill, exept for the colony grandma ( because she was about 75 years old + some hundred spent in cryo on the way). Somehow she never got the disease and took care of the remaining 5 members that where ill. Luckylie she was a good medic and cook. Then the raiders came. With no one else able to fight, it was up to granny to take up arms. Together with the colonies golden retriever she set out to hold back them back. The first shots where lucky. 2 out of 5 raiders felled with a shot to the head. The third was mauled to death by the dog. Number 4 was slowed by a shot to the leg. The 5th Raider reached her. Somehow granny managed to knock out the raider... But she was left with severe stab wounds all over, practically crawling back to the base while the dog finished off the injured raiders.
She collapsed at the gates, slowly bleeding out as the dog stayed with her in her last moments.
The other colonists recovered and found her dead body, leaning against the door frame outside the base, with the sniper rifle still in hand. At least, thats how I invision that scene.

Hospitality quest popped up in the first year at the beginning of winter.. 3 pawns were seeking refuge for 14 days and they were willing to work for me for that time. I had just 2 guys, so it would more than double the number of my pawns, so I accepted and I was hoping to do as much work as possible.
I got 82 yo guy and 88 yo lady, both completely useless. The guy was a decent shot but had cataract. The third refugee was a hyper sensitive nudist pyromaniac girl.
So the whole two weeks were about calming those three down with fists when they were confusedly wandering around because of dementia or when the pyromaniac girl was setting things on fire because she was cold or clothed.
After 12 horrible days the old lady died because of extreme infection in her torso, because she was wandering in confusion during a raid and got shot by a stray arrow. So I failed the task the the two remaining refugees left my colony. The pyromaniac girl didn't make it to the edge of the map because she collapsed because of hypothermia and died in a few hours and the old dude walked into a group of waiting pirates.
    It was a good event.

My favorite rimworld story- I helped a group of refugees. They left all well and good after a bit. A few in-game months later, a single transport pod crashed directly in the center of my colony, leaving behind a wounded woman. That woman was the leader of the refugees I had helped, meaning that she had ALMOST gotten off the planet, but something happened to her ship and she was the only survivor.
She joined my colony and was skilled with guns. I gave her OK stuff, but nothing really great. A few months later again, we had a surprise infestation. They managed to down my main soldiers shockingly quickly and it was looking bad, until this refugee lady, her name was Hitomi, got in range.
By some act of god, she alone with nothing but a normal-quality dragunov and a flat vest / helmet killed the entire infestation and saved the entire colony. No one died. She killed half a dozen mega spiders and the same number of the other bugs. She became a champion that saved everyone. By the end of the colony, she had the best gear; Cataphract armor, shields, jump packs, everything, all because she outdid everything she was asked and killed every damn spider she saw.

Remember my first time playing rimworld , i didn't know anything about the game but as someone that lives in a tropical country with no winter, i decide to start in the jungle with plentiful food a 5 happy tribal people , after some months a nuclear winter sets in and kill's all my crops and animals in the map and forces me to bunker in with no food , my dog was old and gave me enough time to see a warg enters the map and when i try to hunt he goes mad and kill my hunter and rot outside, his wife goes into a murderous rage and kills another guy and dies bleeding out a feel minutes later.
Now I have 2 people a fat pacifist researcher and a woman that hated men , they start dating and that help with the mood but not enough to stop the guy of having a corpse obsession and dig up his friend , the woman saw a naked dead man in the table and since she was starving she ate him and have a mental break and wanders outside and dies of toxic buildup and now I have 1 fat guy that is a pacifist, he survive for 2 days and them the nuclear winter goes away , first animal to wander the map in a hare that goes manhunting for no reason and spend 2 days running after the fat guy while I try to plant rice , the hare goes to sleep and my guy manage to survive somehow , just to get a infection and die of hunger 3 days later alone in a dark hole in the mountain since I had no wood to light a torch.
after that I played 1.751 hours and as long there are mod I'm going to keep playing

I had a successful colony of a dozen prawns, it was glorious, I had a large farm and my colony was well protected from anything.
I was ready for everything the game can throw at me.
What I wasn't ready for was my own pawns plotting against me.
I had a married couple, both sociopaths, who hated everyone else but each other. This is fine I thought but how naive I was.
They started an insult spree on my oldest pawn, an epic survivor who was the only guy left from the original landing. The wife started insulting first but the husband joined in to support her.
My guy was insulted in stereo.
He became depressed after that and soon after started an arson spree.
I tried to stop him but it didn't work, everyone pitched in to snuff out the flames but died to the heat and smoke once the fire reach the stockpiles...
Only my guy survived, with everyone dead.
      I was devastated.
But the worst was yet to come... From the side two of my pawns appeared, back from the caves after a hard day breaking rocks. I was ecstatic that two pawns survived the fire by sheer luck but then...I noticed their names...
THEY WERE THE SAME COUPLE WHO STARTED EVERYTHING.
      I GOT LEGITIMATELY MAD.
To this day I believe that they planned everything! The insult, the fire, the exclusion from fire fighting due to being at the caves...it can't possibly be a coincidence, I won't believe otherwise!

Not en entire story but one of my favorite moments; Was playing a maximal difficulty setting, nothing else can challenge me in this game anymore, and there was a wedding on in this colony of about 30 folks. The colony was having a hard time, obviously, and so the wedding was a great mood booster for them... Until an attendee had a mental snap during the reception. The little descriptor on the character card for what they were doing at the moment was "Attending Wedding looking for Targets", when 29 other characters instantly whipped out their guns and drilled her full of a thousand holes. The rest of the wedding went off just fine and a great feast was had, with their friend shredded to hell laying in a pool of their own gore right there in the dining hall.

As a former EVE Online player, I can say that the macro-stories are more interesting to read about than they are to be a part of. The betrayals and upheavals aren't as common as large-scale wars for territory; the microcosm of stories are much more interesting, imho.

I was introduced to EVE through an article about some huge heist. That level of player agency really hooked me. I was an absolute bastard. I was overly nice, helpful, generous etc, hooking up with small to midsized corps. Made friends, cared about their day to day lives... until I was one of the trusted cornerstones of the Corp and, later, the alliance. Then I would bring in a bunch of alts and rob everyone fucking blind. I even managed to look like the victim in a few cases where the people I had swindled went out of their way to reimburse me for the stuff I, supposedly, lost. I did this over and over for five years. My fiancé final demand I chose between her and the game, so I sold my accounts for, well, an obscene amount. Then contacted the few people I felt guilty about cheating and gave them enough information about my old accounts to rob them blind too.
I will never go back. The game was addictive as hell, especially with the added spice that you could be found out at any point. Still love those stories, though.

At first I paid it no mind because I was occupied with more pressing matters like a mountain building that probably had things inside. After that was over, I decide to check what happens to my alcohol and watched carefully from the manufacturing to the storing, turns out the family dog was sneaking into the pantry, downing about 200 bottles of alcohol because of his godlike tolerance to alcohol. I immediately restricted any animals going into the pantry, but in hindsight prohibiting consumption when you're addicted to alcohol is just asking for trouble, so my dog went rabid and starting attacking people and we sadly had to put him down after he amputated a fella.

I'm new to romworld, only about 20 hours in. I did the tutorial and then decided to try a fresh game.
I started with a family, Husband (doctor, cook) wife (animals and plants) and a daughter (mining, crafting and art). It was to be a simple life, the 3 of them happily landing together and surviving as a family.
It started well, the built a cominal house with 2 bedrooms, a kitchen, lounge and freezer. Got hunting, growing and mining. Life was good, for about a week.
Then they were attacked by a band of 4 rabid Guinea pigs. The daughter was slane outright and the husband died in his wife's arms... She went into shock. Stoped farming, eating, even sleeping, she just stood there looking at the decaying corpses of her family, refusing to burry them, just standing there.
Then a mysterious stranger showed up and ushered her to bed. He began cleaning up, feeding her, burying the dead and looking after the meager crops and lamas.
2 weeks go buy before she snaps out of it and stars helping again. Just in time to hear of a distress call, it's the newcomers mother. She's trapped by some cannibals. So the stranger rushes off to rescue her.
He returns with his mother 3 days later and together the stranger and the woman tend to his mother. During this time the woman starts falling in love with the stranger but he's not interested and rebuffs her... She sinks into depression for a few days and then trys again. When he again refuses her advances she looses her mind and begins attacking his mother.
So the stranger is forced to defend his mother and kills the woman with a single headshot but not before she mortally winds his mother.
Now he's alone in the house, with the woman he saved and his mother buried out back with the others.... I'm not sure if he can go on much longer.

I am talking stuff like "What is the lowest possible healthy amount of sleep possible for a colonist?" Where you get stuff like Legendary Royal Beds, Quick Sleeper Colonists, Psychite Tea, bionic heart, bionic stomach all combined aim to create the tiniest possible amount of sleep that they could possibly have.
I know it isn't as interesting, but I genuinely do like to push games to their absolute intended limits.

Quick sleeper increases your sleep recovery by 50%, a super duper bed puts you at only needing 1/8 of the time, and the bionics can get you another inch or two. While Psychite tea doesn't actually effect the sleep itself, it does effect how long a person can stay up before they need to sleep (which in turn reduces the daily), the only problem with tea is it can only be safely drunk every other day. Sure other psychite products are more... effective... but they are also more dangerous.
Still, taking the average of a 10% tiredness reduction, coupled with all of that stuff, it means the person might not be a coffee drinker, but they will always have the energy to keep going.

Glad you had a whole section about the modding. Seriously the modding community for this game is insane and very passionate (sometimes to its own detriment). One thing I'd say you didn't go over was that there is DLC. Now, usually in a heavily modded game the DLCs kinda just pluck some of the most used mods. Not so here. Both of the DLCs have been pretty revolutionary and added content that would even make someone with 1k hours played wanting to put in another 1k. The multiplayer mod alone puts a lot of games with multiplayer to absolute shame.

Some of my interesting events were the pirates that landed with drop pods in my dining/rec room at night, stole the TV and sculptures, then left through the killbox full of turrets, so I was able to get my troops to them in time to prevent them from getting away.
Later, in the same colony, I had toxic fallout for a while, had to butcher most of my domestic animals since they couldn't graze and were eating my food supplies, and after the fallout ended, I grew a patch of corn, and got a crop blight right before harvest. Before the fallout, I had made a larger stockpile of food with 8000 corn, which was supposed to be excessive, but I ended up completely out of food for a full day before the next harvest.
A different colony, I had a friendly traveler who got injured by a raid, and I rescued him. He was an alcoholic, and I didn't have any alcohol. He left when he was capable of walking, but the withdrawal downed him before leaving the map, because he was so slow from injury and withdrawal. I rescued him, he healed further so he could walk again, left, and the withdrawal went to the next stage, downing him. Some allies of his ended up passing through, and carried him off.

*flackbacks to the colonist that I formed a bond with being burned alive and then executed by a raider*
*flashbacks to one of my only human consists dying to friendly fire leaving their widow depressed and sad that they murdered their husband.*
*flashbacks to running into countless issues about space leading to a ton of my colonists and guests dying to raids because their homes were outside the walls*

Never forget I was playing this game with my friends and I thought it would be a bright idea to go hunt an elephant, as we were low on food. As it happened though I pissed off the whole herd of elephants and they trampled over all our defenses and killed every single one of us 10/10 elephants are dangerous

Hello Spiffing Brit. You just sold me on this game, and so far I think it's freaking amazing.

I remember learning why "building high" is ill-advised the hard way. A few, elite super soldiers with the support of a couple high power, uranium shell turrets are shockingly meaningless before a horde of 72 very upset chinchillas.

I think it might have been a Rim World video that got me to subscribe to your channel. You were jacking stock images and harvesting organs and I thought to myself, "This British sounding guy is a complete psycho, I must subscribe"
