5:12 my Latifolia grows at medium rate. I notice it’s quite thirsty and the growth is directly connected to the water. If my reservoir stays too low it slows down.
First off, thank you for showing the sunrise. I think that it’s really cool that you were honest and showed that it can happen. Many influencers seem to only want to show things that are perfect and never talk about the learning experiences along the way. I know the pain, because my Hoya Jennifer did that same thing. It just died and became mush in a matter of 48 hours. I won’t be going back to try that one again. My other one that has been giving me alot of stress is the Hoya heuskeliana inner variegated. I love her and she just never seems to be watered right- even in self watering pots. But I won’t give up on her, no matter how much she tries my patience.
my channel is all about the progress and journey rather than end results. I think it's more interesting that way. glad you liked it! 🙂 I had a hoya jennifer before but it is sadly no longer with us. my inner variegated heuskeliana tho is one of my favs so I hope you find what works! 💚
I find water props are great to root Hoyas out of all the substrates as soon as you see a decent roots i immediately repot it back into the original plant so it doesn’t get use to living in water. The Hoya Compacta the original green one is the fastest one to grow out of the variegated ones. Also i put this plant on his own as i don’t want to end up having pests and spread to other plants. It is the hardest one to treat too. Unfortunately i lost my original green one. The ones i struggle to grow were the Hoya Obovata, Hoya Kerri Variegated, Hoya Deykeae, Hoya Rotuniflora, Hoya Wayetti variegated, Hoya Serpens and Hoya Heuschkelian which no longer in my collection.
Great video. I appreciate your honesty! I heartily agree with you about whether some clones are weak or strong. I come at it as an experienced chef who takes purchasing seriously. I strongly believe that with cooking, you get out what you put in. Same with buying plants, It’s worth it to wait for a strong clone with good genetics.
Mine is Linearis but something good seem to be happening. I started one in Leca and one in Stratum. I have transferred the stratum one to a soils mix with a wicking set up and left the one in Leca. I have gotten to the point that I'm concentrating on the plants I love. I have point many on the nature strip and given many away. Some thrive, some die - it's just life
totally agree with your sentiment! my linearis was also giving me trouble but I actually restarted the plant by taking multiple cuttings and that seemed to help.
Hi Ana, Many thanks for this video and for the “heads up,” on these specific Hoyas. I have some of these Hoyas and my experiences with them are a mixed bag. On the ones that are doing well, I assume they came to me with good genetics, I got lucky and found their happy place on my first try, they arrived with a good root system, they have a strong will to live, etc. 🤣. I bought a Rangsan in Feb 2024 as a two leaf rooted cutting and he has shown no desire to grow with the exception that those two small leaves are much bigger now that Summer is past the mid way point in the grow Season. 😊 Hoyas, gotta love them! Loved seeing your beautiful Hoyas, as always. Take care. 👌🪴🥰
Thank you for sharing 🌸 No problems with Hoya Curtissii here (so far) the normal one is huuuge and the Coloriata one is branching out. It seems to be they will either be easy or very difficult depending on environment/care. Loving Latifolia (Macrophylla) pot of gold, it sunstresses pink 😍 (I believe with all the silver Hoya hype it is underrated) I had rooting issues with Hoya Bella Lida Buis, it took months! And rooting/rot issues with Hoya Lacunosa white pearl (managed to save some tiny parts though which are now growing well) Growing issues with Hoya Meredithii, Hoya Peninsularis and Hoya Rintzii Borneo. They seem to be notorious though 😅
I started with a large Curtisii. I now have a small one but it has acclimated to PON and is growing. My Serpens is great. I have a splash version and a silver version. She’s not the fastest grower but she’s not slow either. She’s in an unsealed cabinet so it’s essentially in ambient. I love her.
I like the Compacta! I don’t have it but it looks nice! I have a simple one Krimsome Queen/ Tricolor! You are hilarious about your Hoya when you started with: Even though it is dead!🎼🎶😂😂😂😂😂😂☑️
You are hilarious! I have propagated sticks, but I understand what you mean. 😂 I have Hoya shepardii, and it is very annoying with weird bumps, leaf drop, you name it. I’m thinking about showing it the compost pile to see if that will make it straighten up.👀
To prevent new growth die back or bud blasting, you could try supplementing with CalMag each time you water your plants. Calcium is critical to new development and it is an immobile nutrient so can’t be pulled from other parts of the plant. In nature, epiphytes get calcium washed down on them from rain running down the trees so to simulate that, add a bit of CalMag with each watering.
I love all your Hoya content !! The Hoya Curtisii has never given me any issues. I have a 1 leaf silver serpen that has been working on rooting for prob 2 months and nothing 😩. I have the Hoya Deykeae and Svetlana they’ve done absolutely nothing since I purchased them 🙄. The Hoya Macrophylla is one of the very first Hoya I killed 🤭in 2021 and I never cared to purchase again.
Dinner plate hoya grows fast for me. It has rooted and given me a adult leaf and a 8 inch tendril with 2 baby leaves since Nov. And this and sarawak are different hoyas
Hi Ana I like your creative videos 😊 I have a hoya curtisii that I am letting die slowly bc it will only grow if I give it super high humidity and none of my other Hoyas are that fussy so I can’t be bothered 😅
I’m on my third Curtisii but it’s growing. I rerouted it in stratum and it finally was big enough to pot up. Try, try, and try again if you like the look of the plant.
Another great video thank you. Good to learn from fails as well as triumphs. My curtisii's need help and they were looking great. Repot and cuttings to take me thinks. I am under the impression H. loyceandrewsiana, which I have, is the dinner plate Hoya. Large round leaves as opposed to the pointy ones. Thanks again, I'm away and miss my Hoya's and this video helped 😃
I think Svetlana is a cross between Deykeae and Finlaysonii. So, the genes make it difficult. I try my best to stay away from cuttings and buy rooted plants from reputable folks. That’s more expensive, though. I think I have unalived all but one plant from a seller on Etsy, and the last one dropped all its new growth. I'm replacing it. Sunrise roots very easily for me. Hope you try it again as well as the other plants. You grow such beautiful plants! 🤩
that cross sounds challenging so that's not a surprise now why the svetlana is a pain. 🥲 omg that's so trueeee, depending on the seller some plants do well, others not so much. I actually just placed an order for a new sunrise cutting so I will try again! thank you 💚
Love the look of the Crassipetiolata splash, but my plain one is just a little boring to me. Very low maintenance, but just prefer compactas and Mathilde moreso.
Can I ask why you grow your Hoya in rocks and water? All my Hoya are on your list and thriving, most blooming, but grown in Chunky DIY mix. I have over 125 different types of Hoya ATM and growing. And spray with rubbing alcohol for pests. It’s easy and kills mealies on contact.
semi-hydro is my preferred growing method. it just works better for my lifestyle. but so glad to hear those hoya are doing well for you! 😊 there's so much to consider, such as growing conditions etc too.
@@anawithplants true. Growing conditions are important but with my chunky mix I never have rot! I have been putting Hoya in chunky for 7-8 years now and they are happy. I have some pretty massive Hoya so I had to build myself a 18x24 foot greenhouse for them. It makes it nice because I can drag a hose in to water and mix my fertilizer in 5 gallon buckets and spray my alcohol for pest prevention without worrying about paint and walls. Happy Planting!!
I got a sunrise from Etsy and it was so ugly looking and I chopped it up and treat it constantly for pest and 6 months later it has 2 new leaves and another leaf fell off. Bad plant
sigillatis and polyneura, they both come from cold climates and when summer comes in Spain they both suffer a lot.
I did not know they originate from cold climates, thank you for that info!
Ana .Very nice work. I appreciate your honesty!
I heartily agree with you about whether some clones are weak or strong...Great video

Oh I agree that some cuttings are weak. Thats why I always get rooted cuttings far. I even prefer well rooted cuttings or plants in 3-4 inch pots.
Very helpful and great information on Hoyas! Great job! 😊
thank you!
Well you are certainly right about your sunrise.

I love water props too! and I agree the obovata is a tricky one to grow, the leaves always come in warped.
Great video. I appreciate your honesty!

the krimson queen is a classic! lol thank you, trying to make light out of a sad situation 😅
Oh man, the compacta always creeps me out!! Plus the fact it is a bug motel.
oh yeah, mealybugs love to hide in those crevices...
Great video Ana
thank you Lisa! 💚

Thanks this is a great video as someone who is new to Hoya! Do you mind if I ask approx what the temp range your house is?
it depends on the time of the year but generally around 70-75 F (21-24 C)
Dinner plate hoya grows fast for me. It has rooted and given me a adult leaf and a 8 inch tendril with 2 baby leaves since Nov. And this and sarawak are different hoyas
that is good growth! and good to know, thank you 🙂
I love my Curtisii. I had to grow three different plants a but the third time was a charm. I re rooted it in stratum
I'm trying to root a Curtisii in a sealed bag in soil mix. Hoping for the best as love the tiny leaves.
@@shirleycovey7309 I used stratum for about six months. But I was afraid to check the roots. It grew them.
Bella for me, it’s always got mealy bugs and drops leaves.
I've heard this about bellas before! oh and it's prone to spider mites too

oh no the cao bang grows well for me! sorry to hear that 🥲
I tried three times before I was able to get a H. Curtisii to survive. But the one that I have now is thriving.
third times a charm!! congrats 💚
Hoya Serpens silver grows well in Pon directly under light.💚 Svetlana 😤
Love the look of the Crassipetiolata splash, but my plain one is just a little boring to me. Very low maintenance, but just prefer compactas and Mathilde moreso.
Well Ana, I’m going to cross the merideatii of my list.
Hello Ana for me I’m having trouble with the polyneura albo it’s still alive but the newer leaves look pale and new growth just dropped
hey Peter, I'm having trouble with my polyneura albo at the moment too, you're not alone!
I’ve always heard serpens is a slow grower.
I join you in your lack of patience for propagating from sticks. No thank you 🤣
My H.Microphylla have grown 1 leave like in 3 yrs😢On the other hand my H.Curtisii is thriving😊
yay for your curtisii! you must show us your ways lol

just keep doing what you're doing! 😊
Oh no i just bought a sunrise😮 i have Hoya Rangsan that do nothing for 6 months now it looks sad😢
my sunrise grew well for a while, so don't worry! you'll have better luck than me 😊

Too much water ??
It’s a Hoya latifolia Sarawak -the official name.
Well I’ve never heard of the dakii or how ever you spell it so it’s not even on my wish list.
Lockii. Would be pronounced lock-e-i. Double ii. Is e-i
ohh that does totally make sense, thank you!
