My Mom had a Hoya for YEARS. It was always there when I was a child. She said it was from a cutting she got from one that was in our dentist's office. That was in the 60's. She recently passed away and when cleaning out her house, I snagged the Hoya. I can only remember it blooming once in the 60+ years she had it. She even took a picture at the time it bloomed, and had put that snapshot in the leaves. Knowing Mom, she was trying to let the plant know that this was what it was supposed to do! I have had it in my home for about 6 weeks now. I am hoping to get some blooms someday. I think it might be in a pot that is a bit too large, but the pot was painted by 2 of her great-grandsons and I don't have the heart to repot it yet. Maybe I am afraid I will kill it if I do!
@carolinaroach5938 It does get plenty of filtered light. It is about 3 ft from a west window. No direct sunlight. It is shooting out 4 vines, but no peduncles yet. Fingers still 🤞
Just have my Hoya publicalyx 8 month ago,And boy it give me beautiful 6 flowers today I just can't stop staring their so pretty..just put your Hoya in the sun they loves it.
My mum has a Carnosa that my aunt gave her as a cutting. We realised recently that she's had it over 30 years. It sits in a very shaded kitchen window but flowers constantly.
In my opinion, it doesn’t matter to me when you post cuz I’ll always be here until you decide to fold your channel. I’m just glad you post at all cuz you’re such a pleasure to watch. Thanks Adam for posting~🌿🌿🌿 always a pleasure to watch.
Hi Knot dude. When my grandmother passed away in 1989, I was blessed to inherit her hoya carnosa which at the time was growing in a southern light on her dining room table, very compact. I brought it home & placed in my south east plant room window &with in just a few weeks it was putting out lots of new growth & to my amazement it started to put out several blooms which were so beautiful & fragrant! At that time I knew nothing about Hoyas. It started to vine up into my window blinds which at the time, was fine. But then we moved and I got worried, because in order to move to new home, I had to cut it back alot as it had grown up & intertwined itself through the blinds. It survived the cuts and the move. I have estimated its age at approx 60 yes. It continues to flourish & bloom in a northeast window. Flowers are pink and fragrant. I took two cuttings yesterday so that I could propagate it for new plants. Thank you for all the information you provide on your you tube videos! I didn't know there were so many varieties. I am looking forward to finding out where I can find some of these. I also have a compacta which got to be about 10 feet long, in a northern window & because of neglect on my part, I lost it, however I did take a cutting at last min. and is now thriving and blooming in a north window! I am definitely a plant nerd.
Oh John, thank you so much for your comment. So glad to hear your heirloom carnosa survived and is thriving! My hoyas find their way through my blinds too. Afew grew a leaf and I also was unable to untangle it and had to cut it off. Trimming is good through. Promotes more videos growing! Thanks for watching my video!
Whatever you have to cut makes great cuttings and plants will start from it in two weeks. Each plant propagates better and stronger plants. Dont be afraid to trim off the old stuff that is no longer producing blooms because they never will. Lose the non flower producing growth and your plant will love you. Buy some LED grow lights for your hoyas and you will be amazed. I use 4 cloning strips and leave them on all day for about 16 hours. Hoyas love intense light
I can so relate to it "feeling like a job" statement. I love doing mixed media art, scrapbooking, jewelry making, etc and I foolishly allowed someone to convince me to start selling my work. Let me tell you....I "F"ing hated it. It drained me. Don't get me wrong, the money I made was good but it sucked the life out of me and took me well over 9+ months after I decided to stop selling...to get back into it just for the joy it brought me to create things! You do you Adam! True followers will be here.
Adam, You have no idea how much we’ve missed you, completely selfishly, I know but it’s good to hear you voice. You’re just the bestest, cutest, plantophile. Whatever you do, we’re happy to come along for the journey. Gorgeous plants- conquered LECA, hermaphrodite plant genitalia. What can I say? Becca’s right- you are the KING. Your babies love you and flower because they are happy. I’ve never seen a crinkle 8 in flower. PLEEEESE don’t leave UA-cam. But if you must make sure us oldies can follow you In whichever format you chose to embrace.
Thank you for your video! I'm glad I've found someone that lives in a desert & is able to grow Hoyas successfully. Growing up in Mexico where the weather makes anything grow, my grandmother had a beautiful hoya, but never knew the name. I live now in Reno, Nevada & I want to give it a try to see if they'll grow & bloom here & your video has been a great help. 👍
I love your videos and always make sure I have some snacks ready to go when I see you pop up in the sub box. I think the reason why the content is so good is because it's not forced and you probably not make a video until you have something to say... A true King
2:25 That's actually how I found you, Let's Talk Hoya. Love it! I even got my partner to listen and he loves it, even though he's not into plants as much as I am 😅
Welcome back. You have an amazing collection. Yes, when you bend over to sniff a flower, you are shoving your nose into the flower's genitalia... and leaves are lungs, roots are intestines. But that language is not very much poetic. And there's probably a freudian theory about your choice of words
So I am in Arizona too, and the only hoya I have that has ever flowered for me is my bella, and it is prolific!! I love it!! I also have a pubicalyx that has two peduncles but they haven't bloomed yet. It's the purple royal hawaiian. I have a burtonaie and now I'm so excited to see it bloom eventually! I've only had it a year, so I probably have a while to wait still. But now I want to get the others you mentioned. I have been eying the sunrise for a while, so now I want it even more.
Someone gave me a bunch of propogations of the hoya Bella a couple months ago. I potted them up and fertilize here and there and boom, I just looked today and there is one little podunkle (or wtvr it's cslled-sorry I'm new ) ... I'm so excited about it. Guess I'm doing something right. I am supper surprised tho be said I thought it would be a couple years before I ever saw this..... Is this normal ???
I think it’s great you don’t have an upload schedule! Makes total sense otherwise it can become a chore for sure. Also, 10/10 would recommend the Pod to EVERYONE!! It’s great! The synergy between the 3 of you is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻
Hi Adam! So glad to see your handsome face again! Please take as much time between videos as you need. I will enjoy any/all you do. I need me some blooming hoyas! All five of those are beautiful! I only have one large hoya and I think it is a Publicalyx. I've had it for years and it's only bloomed 3 times, but smells heavenly. I can only smell it at night and that's when I know it bloomed. 😉 I have a single hoya bella vine in a little vase of water that just finished blooming. I couldn't smell a scent, but at least it bloomed, I was so shocked! The other hoyas I have are just cuttings. I'm really hoping to find some reasonable priced larger plants. 🤞 Thank you for putting the links for the podcasts. I've been wanting to watch them, but know nothing about podcasts. Thank you so much for sharing! BTW, loved the editing and little "clips" you added!
It is so nice to see you and your gorgeous hoyas again! I always enjoy learning from you and really enjoy your content. Thank you for another fun informative video :)
Yay he’s back!!! You have the best Hoyas ever!! Please take breaks when you need not only do you deserve it 2020 is rough. We will always be here for you xoD
I'm sure you know this.... but.... this is the 1st video of yours I've come across, with the 1st hoya you were showing and any fragrant hoyas really, often they smell the strongest in the morning and later at night. 🎉 Cheers from 🇨🇦
I enjoyed your episode😌🙏💖I definitely want a lacunosa😍especially for its' fragrance. I have a hoya davidcummingii. That flowers a whole lot! It's got a caramel-butter fragrance that drifts around the room, But!☝️you can't smell it if you put your nose to the flowers. You have to dip your finger into the nectar and then you smell your fingers and get that 'caramel-butter' fragrance😌🙏💖
I really enjoyed your video. I am new at hoya collecting which I stumbled on accidently. I am enjoying watching the little leaves grow to a bigger plant. I have only had 2 bloom. They were obscura which dropped off so soon & pubicalyx (red) is still in bloom for 2 weeks now & has 5 peduncles. The 5 hoyas you spoke of are in my wishlist & I hope to get soon. My problem is that no one ships to The Bahamas so I will have to arrange for collection in the USA. Thanks again & enjoy🥰🌱
Thank you for showing us the Hoyas. I do not have any of them but now that you showed us I would love to have one. Hopefully they are not hard to find. Thanks for coming back on UA-cam. Love Your channel.
I have a burtonae that flowers all the time as well. It was my first Hoya I got to flower! I've found they smell more in the morning and at night. Nice to see you back again 😊❤️
I only own a Hoya for its fragrance, Hoya Estrella waterfalls 1256 , I would not have a Hoya for foliages ,, that was in Miami Beach , I temporarily moved to OK and left my Hoya , roots wrapped in coconut fiber and moss , and hooked it hidden well inside bushes next to a water sprinkler outdoors, I hope to find it doing well when I go back to recover it, it has been about one year ❤❤
Nummeruloides. Bella. These two also love to bloom. My Bella has been blooming since April. We'll see if she goes through the winter! And welcome back. I love your videos and in times like these, love is what we need, right?
I agree! Choose plants that do well in your environment without those PIA humidifiers. I live in dry climate too, and understand that e.g., calathias are not my friends....So, pick plants that don’t need all that humidity. I still have over 100 enjoyable plants.
I give my hoya north sun here in Australia in my windows by hanging them. Have had hoya for a long time and never got them to bloom and boom! Once I moved them to more intense sun and I have now got constant flows. Sooooo goood! Now to fix my chinese money plant. I just can't get it right. But for your hoya, they basically need chunky orchid mix, seaweed emulsion severely diluted in their water, and basically full sun. Rinse them out once every two months to flush out the excess seaweed emulsion and there you go.
That Rebecca is beautiful. I’ve not heard of that one. I’ll have too look for one. Especially if it’s a good bloomer. I only have one that blooms constantly. It’s my multiflora
Nice to have you back. I'd be happy to see any of my hoyas bloom so all of your hoyas were my favorite :) I think a major perk they have is your location - hot & humid AZ. I dont think I have enough light to push them to bloom but enough to just grow :)
Really did miss you. Glad you are back. I completely understand your approach to your you-tubing. It makes so much sense. I've often wondered about the pressure UA-camrs must feel to constantly produce content and the work involved. Anyway, good to see you again.
Ok, I know nothing about making videos or editing but that setup you have with the camera you talk to, then one that does close-ups of your parts (lol), then another at the side for plant 'genitalia' close-ups seems like a lot more of a professional setup than I've ever seen on UA-cam. Congrats!
One min in the video -whiskey and hoyas!!! How I missed to fallow this channel till now I dont know!!??? Sadly Im watching this in the morning and its little bit too early to drink 😅 but next time for sure! 😁
So great to see you showing off your beauties 😁 The extra camera is a great addition. I just came straight from listening to episode 6 of the podcast and I’m enjoying it so much 😂 You three are wonderful together 💕
I’m excited about having a Hoya in my home. I live in south Florida in a condo. My terrace is filled with beautiful plants. Will a Hoya do well in my climate?
I have a Rebecca in water. It's put out several peduncles while rooting! But then again she's been rooting for long enough to consider being grown hydroponic 😬
"I shove my nose deep into that plant genitalia..." 🤣Subscribed. I'm just getting sucked into the Hoya rabbit-hole and have loved your podcast "Let's talk Hoya." Can't wait to learn more about these amazing plants!
Yoyr hoyas clearly love the care you give them Adam and are happy to reward you with blooms.Subbed a while ago but not sure have ever left a comment. Wanted to hop on and also say how much I am enjoying your podcast Potted Together with Becca and Nicole. The going off topic on a tangent is what makes it so great- Ha ! Ha!
3 minutes in and i had to pause to come and say... I love your beautiful face my friend! I missed you but i understand ....2020... its fucked man! I only wish the best for you and your mental state, if you need a break from making your amazing content, then you do, and we all understand that. We miss you, but we understand. I hope i get to see your beautiful face again soon, but if it takes a minute for more vids... i will wait for you! Xoxo 💚💚💚💚 back to video now!! Lol
when i first saw the Hoya trend , i decided i will get only one because i have lots of other plants , but i got addicted and now i have over 20 plant hoyas , and i think it will not end there
My v obovata will forever be my top favorite. I can’t wait till it’s a beast like yours! And I love the matching orange with your hat and shirt 😅 so cute!

Probably needs more sunlight to bloom. No direct sunlight.

Ha!

Lol
