Hi Stephanie, not a criticism as it’s an easy mistake to make, but the Pilea Peperomioides is not a Peperomia. Pilea is the genus. I’m totally with you on the Pink Princess and everything similar to it. The Dark Lord, the Painted Lady, etc. All the same issues and so frustrating. I may throw them in a prop box like you did but as they are now, they’re a mess. I hear they get better as they get bigger. Maybe once they get to cataphyll growth?
different peperomia are different, but the ones with more fleshy stems like the watermelon are ridiculously prone to pythium/root rot. I use 1/3 each succulent mix, coco coir, and pine fines and it works for most of mine.
@@luciansteph i got recommended pine fines to deal with root rot and it seems to work. root rot is actually cause by the microorganism pythium, and apparently soggy peat is its favorite place to live and it hates pine.
With you on your choices. Additionally, for me, Fittonias and Micans. The Dracaena Marginata Trees are creeping up to the good-bye door. Can't seem to make them happy 🪴😵
Hi thanks for the video, I feel the same way about some plants and I can never bring myself to throw them away. I have started a giant plant pot that I still my trouble plants in and it is beautiful. Well it is to me. The little straggler plants even look happier. :)😊😊
Honestly I’m struggling too. 🤷🏽♀️ but I’ve decided to not let it bother me anyone 😆 We can focus on the plants that bring us how. Thanks for watching 🪴😊
I just chopped up my pink princess. I was tired of it putting out almost no pink! 10 days later I have four wet sticks sprouting, a top cut in water- and the stump has four new growth points with teeny leaves. One of those buggers has got to give me some pink! lol!!
Hilo Beauty Caladium is only one I have regrets about right now. At this point, I already know and have gotten rid of the families that don't like my conditions like succulents, most philodendron, and spider plants. Makes a big difference also on lowering impulse shopping when you actually LOVE your current plant set up 😉 ❤.
About the mini monstera mine it was like yours But when I took it outside it grows and grows. It needs more light than what you are providing. For me I guess in winter I won’t fret give it minimal water cause it doesn’t put out leaves. Avoid rotting that way and just wait. Hope this helps
Howdy Ditto for me on the plants you named with the addition of spider plants (I can only grow them outside during the summer), and I struggle with keeping Aglaonema alive for over six months.
Eh, you live, you learn. Sometimes you buy a plant that you like, then it’s not as great as you thought. On the flip side, sometimes you buy a plant you’re so-so on and then that new leaf pops out and knocks your socks off! It’s just like dating in that you can’t gage chemistry ahead of time. As long as you learned something and had a little fun along the way, that’s fine.
I've been having similar problems with my mini monstera, I'm glad I'm not alone. Initially seemed to settle in well, it was getting new leaves easily and I gave it some water a couple of days earlier than I normally would on one occasion because I had a busy schedule few days ahead and then it started dropping leaves. I thought it would settle, but it seemed to go on and on. Really started thinking there might be some root rot issues or perhaps even though there had been no sign of it maybe even a pest issue. With this being on my mind possibly the worse thing I could have done was check the roots, change the soil and repot. Now its still pushing out new leaves, but yet continuing to lose leaves faster it is replacing with new ones. I'm starting to think the issue might even be the summer we are having here. In April the weather was good, June and July has despite the longer days been wetter, darker, and grey skies. Whatever the reason, it's proven to be quite a finickity character.
100% YES! The exact thing happened to me. Growing but losing leaves. Great grower but unforgiving and easy to rot. Sorry that happened to you. If the bare spots bother you, you’d have to restart. I put mine in a self watering pot and now I don’t have to worry about watering it. 😅
I’ve had the R. tetrasperma about 3 months now. I live in the Northeast US. Mine is sitting in an East window that gets light all day when the sun is up. I bottom water, which makes it more difficult to overwater. It’s growing like crazy, think at least 2 leaves per week. Maybe yours would like some direct light that’s not harsh? Although it’s in a South window, it’s still very shaded.
An east facing window would be perfect. Direct light but not too much. Wish I had one. You have no idea how many times I've contemplated adding windows to the east side of my home hehe. You're right, I may have to move it... Where? idk yet. Stay tuned.
Pink Princess had to go for me too. It just kept putting out un-pink leaves which in and of itself wouldn't be a problem but the leaf color to me was not attractive. And it seemed to always have issues pushing out the new leaves which just resulted in wonky leaves. It had to go!
Pretty much agree with everything you don't get along with - peperomia are tricky, hoya are boring and slow, chunky/stalky philodendrons are not my vibe (though I do like something like a splendid/camposportoanum). Tetrasperma I find very easy and forgiving though. I do really need to know what the plant is to my left (your right) above the humidifier??
@@luciansteph yes, that's the one, thank you. I have a lot of alocasias and it's giving out that look, just couldn't place it. I have a Mickey Mouse Xanthosoma but that one is gorgeous. Hopefully the tetrasperma will perk up for you, I never have any trouble with mine
@luciansteph it totally went also my aurea I absolutely luv them but now thinking about it I tested the foot candles and it wasn't very high. So I have just created a new plant space so I am testing my new syngonium in that area.
I killed 3 tetraspermas and I don't know how many pepperomia's. I want to try a watermelon pepperomia again but I also don't want to waste my money and time.
I know what you mean. Our growing environments may be good for some plants but not others. 🤷🏽♀️ So it’s good to know when to call it quits on certain plants. 🪴
