on the flip side, i almost always play male characters, but i'm a woman irl and i've had so many people straight up just NOT believe me when i tell them. it's wild
FC leader’s get a bad rap, but they aren’t mind readers. In OP’s case, they absolutely did not take her accusations seriously and gaslit her by brushing it off as a joke. But she said in the story that she never brought it up to anyone else in the FC. They were not in the know that Zeal was back at it again. When I first joined my FC, this one dude hopped onto a late-night voice call with me and my friend in it. He was drunk, gave me Gil, started fetishizing our ethnicities, and then asked for an IRL photo of me. I immediately messaged my FC leader about it as a heads-up and within the next 24 hrs that dude was removed from the FC. He did exhibit this behavior before with another member, but she had left the FC long before I joined for other reasons. My FC leader was remorseful that he didn’t kick that dude the first time, but he himself was guilted into keeping him around because he was an Omni-crafter and did so much for the FC. We now have a no-tolerance policy for that kind of behavior. If we hear about it, you will be removed ASAP. Idk I guess the point I’m trying to get at is that you gotta talk to your FC leaders and officers if there is behavior that bothers you from other members. People are quick to write them off as “they don’t care about you” or whatever. And if they don’t take what you say seriously AFTER you’ve spoken to them, then leave! OP’s story is one of the few unfortunate circumstances where FC leaders fail and don’t take accountability. But its not a correct generalization of ALL leaders.
This is why I started leading my own FC, because I had to deal with some FCs where authoritative ranks do nothing. Especially if the offending party is a friend or someone that has contributed a lot. I make it a point that if a member has an issue with another that they report to higher ups. To make it easier, I even made the discord have a ticket bot so that an issue brought up to an officer is actually brought up to all ranks of officer and above. This way everyone is on same page and no story is told differently between officers.
NOT YOU lining up the guitar drop from Advent One Winged Angel to hit right when you reveal it's a dude. omfg pathra i love you. XD another great storytime vid!
I came back to the game and made new bonds and one of the closest people I knew was a lesbian, i'd played a mithra since 11 so my FXIV was a cat girl of course. I made it clear that I was a guy early on with most people I met. My friend would flirt with my character(not me) and even asked me to marry them I told them I wasn't interested in the marriage system. We still stayed friends and they found someone who was also a real life girl to to marry. In games my character is their own being but also still me, but I always make it clear what my gender is to avoid all this potential drama. To sum this all up if your a guy playing a girl it's usually best to be honest early on it avoids all the lies and misleading. I play a girl in Pso2/NGS but my account name shows in team which makes it clear .. I'm a dude. Honestly goes a long way but also keep your real life problems out of the game if life is that bad you need to seek professional help because MMORPG are not a dumping ground.
Feel so sad on some of these stories, once the incident happens they often take breaks, and loose a lot of friends, loose FC's, so sad! This guy affected so many people and probably doesn't realise!
I always get skeptical about people's genders in this game, so I don't assume too much until otherwise. (Via discord voice etc). I've been in that position and trust issues with people telling me what they are, but, sometimes it is for good reasons because of fear or discriminated against. So, I accept them no matter what as I tell them as long as they don't lie to me like this person did to the OP we are good. Gotta be kind to one another! But don't be a dick!
It didn't happen in FF14, but I used to have a friend who introduced themselves as female to me as well. I knew "her" for nearly 4 years until I found out the truth. We kinda had something similar going from time to time as OP did with Zeal (I'm Bi and "she" said she was Bi too). "She" had a very chaotic life and would share pictures and such from her life and very rarely from herself. I already had a feeling that there might be something false about "her" stories, but I didn't care as much. "She" was a good friend and I trusted "her" a lot. The thing is... When I found out the truth - of "her" being a guy actually - it wouldn't have been as irredeemable if he just been honest from the get go... Instead, he made up a whole lie that he was the ex-husband from "her" and that he needed to tell us that she actually 'unalived' herself in a horrible car accident a month prior and that he had to 'pretend' to be her so we don't notice. But 'He started to like us too much to keep hiding the truth and hoped he can stay friends with us'. Of course we quickly found out it was all a lie - we being a handful of his friends and me - and that the truth just is the simple "He pretended to be a she". But... he actually pretended for 12 years! One can tell that there is definitely something not right with the man, but I do still want to say that he is a good guy somewhere under the self esteem issues. But I decided to cut the contact anyway because of the whole story he made up... It was not a nice feeling to think a friend 'unalived' themselves and I take that topic extremely serious... And my trust in him just broke completely at that point, so yeaaa... We are still friendly to each other if we happen to cross paths due to some common friends - it would be unfair to be hostile - but we are definitely not friends anymore. This story kinda made me think of my own experience so I felt like sharing it... Thanks for reading xD

I met someone like that in my first big FC when I first started the game. Played as a female character and didn't say anything when referred to with she/her pronouns, flirted with me a lot (we were both viera girls,) was on 24/7, and would invite me to parties and chat with me all the time, getting kind of offended if I wanted to be alone that day. I used to fall asleep with the game on, and they would always be waiting nearby my character for when I woke up. I found out they were a guy and ended up distancing myself from them, but they sent me a text wall on Discord basically trying to make me feel bad and about how they gave up on their feelings for me. They ended up getting kicked from my FC for flirting with members who were in relationships and generally making people uncomfortable, me included. With all the similarities between my story and OP's, I wonder if they're the same person...
And thats why you really need to use the "NO" like a hammer. No soft words and NO exeptions like a wedding-Partner to go with. People who are that desperate for a partner will interpret EVERY LITTLE THING into - she/he loves me!!!
funny enough, i feel like this happened so often back in those days on the internet, around 10 years ago. i had an online best friend when i was a teenager, we played on a site called gaia online together and they presented as male. i fell hard for them after about a year of being very close and they confided in me once i told them about my feelings that they were biologically female and they just preferred to present as male online but female irl. that turned out to be my bi awakening as it ended up not mattering to me LOL, so i guess it worked out for the best for me specifically. what a rollercoaster this video was though, at least in my situation there wasnt all these layers of toxicity and manipulation, i feel like a lot of people could easily get lost in the toxic online community in 2010-2016.
"I'm actually....a guy".... SHOCKER... I knew this from the beginning. This dude need to learn how to even pretend to be a woman. As for the OP, I hate people who says "EVERYTHING WILL BE OK I PROMISE N OMATTER WHAT" ... GASP.. HOW DARE. Don't promise what you can't keep, don't say everything no matter what is said will be of no consequences before knowing what it is.
Had an incident where a girl was pretending to be a guy. Once in 2012, was in a small community for DSi Internet users. I was about 16, the person was pretending to be much older than they were, and the name they were using just so happened to be on the pedo database for their area. Was a naive teenager, and they got my address out of me. They had their mother call my school and leave a message for me. They'd leave messages in the status page that had my information on it, but in a way that only I would know. Was afraid to tell the mods, this was my friend. Some other users did some digging, and found the name they were using on the database for their area. Spent a lot of nights in my later teen years worried about being kidnapped. Did not want to cause trouble for my family due to reasons I won't go into, so I said nothing. Websites in that community tend to not last a long while. When the site we were currently using died, I took that as my window to leave because I was terrified. I somehow found a newer website for those in that community, and rejoined I wanna say in 2016. Found them on there. They were like 12 at the time of everything that transpired in 2012, and left an explanation on their bio of who they actually were, and that they were just young and stupid. Added each other from snapchat for a while, so I got to see them and confirm who they really were. I hold no resentment towards this person, but am not in contact with them anymore cause I'm really not part of that community anymore. Scared the crap out of me. If you think your safety is at risk, tell somebody. I got lucky thank God, but you never know. It could had turned out completely different, and there were so many red flags. Luckily, nothing happened.
i realize there are a lot of catfishers or scammers but i think we should be careful not to judge/accuse someone right away if their voice, etc doesnt match what our idea of a gender is. there are plenty of trans people who wont have a voice that matches societys idea of that gender. just, be open minded, kind, but careful not to put yourself at risk when it comes to ANYONE online.
My big bro used to play Maplestory ALOT, and made a girl charactor. Not to trick anybody like in that story. It was only cuz he preferred playing as a girl. He had dressed her up in a cat girl costume. Then came the "Goddess costume" because He loved the anime "Oh my Goddess" (He was trying to look like Belldandy in the game.) The funny part was that he would get so many compliments 😂
I only play as a female character since I dislike the idea of looking masculine and the male models usually look awful (excluding Dark Souls, my first character in Dark Souls 3 is a guy). I'm always honest about my gender, so much so that even in Final Fantasy XIV that I dress my character up in more professional attire (Noir long coat, pants, and dress shoes). Because of how the coats work in FFXIV, it makes my character look flat so I always sigh in relief when I hear someone refer to my character as "he" rather than "she" because of her looks and attire
That one part about keeping her old friends on her friendlist hoping they one day log in speaks to me. I know how you feel, bud. Me too. I'm still waiting for them too.
I am always vague on my gender in games. It's not that I'm trying to lead people or be something I'm not but that I don't put much stock into gender being linked to my identity. In the discord for a vendor job I work we have bios for everyone I just tell people to use what they feel is appropriate and just don't be derogatory. I am always concern I will set someone off due to the character I play but ultimately I don't think anyone has been upset with more nor can most people honestly tell. One night I had a coworker at the venue tell "I still have no idea what your pronouns are." And had others just agree that they still aren't sure, which was some level of relief for me.
Zeal sounds predatory as fuck, good lord. I'm glad it ended the way it did because this person developed a really fucked up attachment to someone they clearly didn't respect.
I, male, play male and female chars, just depends on how the armor looks. However if I am asked always honest don't see the point. Had a female friend that played a male in another game back in late 90s and everyone would freak when she popped on and I'm guessing I was one of few that knew she was a she. She'd give me hugs in game and we'd flirt. It's amazing how the world has changed more accepting. I feel for the OP, that situation was a disaster.
@@g.d.2059They were, especially since it sounds like he’s a repeat offender, but its difficult to know people’s true intentions on the other side of the screen and what constitutes a “joke”. Had an old FC member joke about a lot of really outlandish things. Could never take them seriously until they slipped and showed how much of a snake they truly were. And if no one is talking to the FC leader/officers…how are they supposed to read people’s minds?
@Dani I disagree. This is a video game not a irl parliament. They are not obligated to do anything for anyone over anything. It's a video game with easy to access functions that allows anyone to force shun a person who is harassing them. The op failed to use the function due to their issues and suddenly wants to turn partial blame to EVERYONE else when they had the tools to solve their own problem.
@@terrenceojeda7172 Your line of thinking is wrong. Although we are in a video game, a guild and it's authoritative ranks have a JOB to do in making sure their members are in a safe community. This is how all guilds are unless you're in a small one with just friends you know. It is the JOB of leaders and officers to deal with problems and find a solution for all parties involved. If you happen to be leading a guild, I hope you wise up because you have no business assuming this all falls down to the victim. If left alone, there will be more victims and you just help the issue spread.
I think it's reductive and dishonest to say she 'blamed' the FC leaders. Clearly it's Zeal who is responsible for his own behaviour - but the FC leaders knowingly kept a serial predator around, because they personally weren't affected by his actions. They deserve the criticism they got
32:30 --- And even then they can ask some else to do it for them. At some point, you just have to trust people that what they tell you is true - even if it sets you up being betrayed. Otherwise you'll run around expecting everyone to be untrustworthy and that'll only leave you alone.
I don't like the idea of putting some blame on the FC leaders about the guy. They are not your parents. If they knew about it and wanted to keep him because he was giving big contributions, then why are they to blame? It's a game and this dude was giving them benefits. They are not obligated to do anything for anyone over anything. Of course that'd be messed up of this was irl, but it's not. People ingame have the ability to solve their own problems by using the games function of blocking. But she couldn't do that so why start looking at the FC leaders like they had to do something about it?
Holy shit. How do you have this double standard? You literally just said "that'd be messed up if this was irl, but it's not". How in the world do you think this ok to happen just because we're not seeing the people directly in front of us? A guild's purpose is to build a little community in the game with people interested in the same activities or just being a funny bunch, right? Well, the people that put together that community have a job. The leader and officers have a literal job. Yes, they're in a game world WITH A JOB. Their leader sets the rules to protect the community they created, and the officers uphold their rules. Without this order, you don't have a guild. You just have a public playpen no different from standing around in Limsa.
As a guy who likes playing female characters for some reasons less obvious than most would think, I always have anxiety with interacting with people because people might think I might actually be a girl. This is especially so as a Roleplayer, and whenever I roleplay I often put myself into the role of my character, sort of like method acting. I would adopt personality and behavior like that of a more feminine character when roleplaying. The whole gender lieing thing was a fairly common thing back in the day and I didn't want to commit to many friendships for fear of upsetting someone who actually thought I would be a woman. But now adays its like "you're a female character of course you're a dude" so now it's kind of cool/okay? Except you can't assume that cuz there are actual ladies who play the game, so idk if its insulting or not to say something like that anymore
This is so common, never trust what strangers say online about themselves unless you talk to them irl or on facetime. 😆 Don't people get to learn this nowadays??!
This reminds me of a situation when one of our FC mates was creeping on this new player I'll call "Bianca". this guy I'll call "Diablo" stated acting very creepy with her, like he would go with her everywhere and stuff. Then one day I asked Bianca if she wanted to come to PotD with me so I could get my red BLM staff and Diablo jumped to the opportunity to come with us. so I made a VC channel for us to communicate on the discord and thats when I found out that Bianca was actually a man. I mean he was't trying to hide it or anything, he just acted in a very cutesy way in game and out so everyone figured he was a woman... that was the moment Diablo completely stopped talking to Bianca...
I do have a lot of guys in my circles that play girl characters. But it is understandable. I mean would you want to look at a male highlander ass in 2b or a fem roe or Viera? Yeah, thats what I thought.
Holy shiiiit poor OP! That's so crazy! That's not a friend, that's a walking trainwreck. I hope OP is doing better. I've met guys like that online. They need a lotta help outside the game. Don't be afraid to block/cut contact with people like that. No one deserves going through their bull!!
This sounds like a very familiar story from a guy in an old FC that would do exactly this. He would get kicked multiple times and come back with a new name or new character.
playing a different sex in game? idk i play a Dwarf potato i don't even see a difference between the 2. for singleplayer 3rd person games i do prefer to look at a female ass rather then a guys ass the entire time but het thats singleplayer.
I’ve seen similar situations in life. The guy clearly hoped that she’d fall for him over a long time period before telling her that he’s a guy. Then love would triumph over sexuality or something. Ofc that’s toxic. It’s also funny to me every time I hear some kinda “you agreed to this, so that means we’re dating.” I can’t imagine assuming something like that. If we’re dating, I want it to be clear asf.
Crazy how a guy playing a cat girl has that much drama. I have heard some success stories of people finding the love of their life in this game. However, I also hear about the horror stories of people stalking their potential mate. Maybe I am old school, but this dating stuff in the game is not my cup of tea.
It's really a rare occurrence that things end well. That said, I have two lesbian friends that met in the game two years ago and recently married in RL. They live together and still play the game. Myself on the other hand? I try to just play the game, but once in a while I attract attention particularly because I'm usually an attractive cat boy. And the ladies I've met thus far have been batshit insane. I've had so much heartbreak these past two years that I've recently decided to go Lalafell. Lol I'm laying low from any thirst by just being too smol to lewd. So I choose to just game and dodge the crazies... Happy for my friends though. They got lucky.
I know this is an old comment, but I personally met my current partner in the game and we've been together for 2 years and still going strong. I love them a lot and we worked out, but I have seen first hand (as my FC's leader) that things normally DO NOT. We've had some unfortunate drama pop up from in game relationships not working out and it's very sad when it happens bc it effects our small FC :(( I have a few officers and we try to stay out of interpersonal relations UNLESS it starts causing issues with the FC. we've lost a couple of good FC members from it smh
Hmm well, I can say for a fact that filter you doubted has been around a few years. A couple or so years ago, a beautiful young Asian woman fooled the Internet on I think Instagram, TikTok either didn't exist yet or was just starting up. She would always make posts and nobody knew she was in fact a 50-60 yr old man. Until somebody noticed in a video, his reflection didn't match the filter. He had come out about and was pretty sincere with his apology. That he was forgiven and maintained a solid audience.
I always assume everyone is a guy in an MMO until proven otherwise. And that's how I almost never dated my girlfriend. I thought she was a guy when we were raiding together in TEA since she's always muted in discord until we cleared.
This is why people shouldn't play 1 game 24/7. They forget to disconnect. To log out. To go back to their life and do their things in their own way. When people play 24/7 and never do anything outside of 1 game, they start to blur the lines along their real life and the game and the game you disconnected from life to feel better.. starts to become the thing you should disconnect from to realize it's just a game people play together.
Does it really matters the type of plumbing someone has in real life? Is not as it you are going to marry them or even meet them IRL You are just chatting and playing a game. Nothing more.
Not since around the Hearthstone Grandmasters in Taiwan. We are just streamer friends who could barely communicate since he speaks Russian and barely any English ^^
Hm. The last stuff about ID'ing a guy feels a bit transphobic, as is the stuff about voices - I mean, catfishing is a thing for sure, but trying to clock others and describing strategies like that is a little... ehhhhhhh...
Imagine thinking that people in game are actually their gender of their avatar xD it's just a game why do people stress over these things with people they will prolly never meet it's just bizarre. As an Fc leader myself she said nothing to the fc leaders no discomfort non of that yet she still blames the FC leader it's a video game not a day care, I mean if you want the FC leaders to be mind readers then you should also hold the GMs to the same standard the game devs should just make this type of behavior impossible they'll temp ban people that do it then the game will be better (not really no) Tbh Ziel should have lost respect for OP anyways after she said "no matter what it will be fine" and then after learning that he was a guy off in flipping narnia somewhere began to become awkward and treat him differently.
woud i get in trubble if i take my game logick for gender pronounces to the real world? if thers boobs its "she" >.< it takes so mutch of my sosial energy to worry about ofending thin skinned people that i have become a shut in and i do suffer lonelyness even tho in introverted. ALOT
THE SEPHIROTH MUSIC i had to pause to laugh omfg
MMORPG stands for Many Men Online Role Playing as Girls

People have to learn to set boundaries, especially on FF14. People are very odd.
Amen to that!
ffxiv becomes part of some peoples entire life
i’m so glad someone said it, this is why me and my partner just stay away from FCs and venues 🤣

Then came the "Goddess costume" because He loved the anime "Oh my Goddess" (He was trying to look like Belldandy in the game.)
The funny part was that he would get so many compliments 😂
I am a girl playing as a male character and boy do I get some funny interactions when I enter a vc.
I remember the old days of gaming over Skype
I only play as a female character since I dislike the idea of looking masculine and the male models usually look awful (excluding Dark Souls, my first character in Dark Souls 3 is a guy).
I'm always honest about my gender, so much so that even in Final Fantasy XIV that I dress my character up in more professional attire (Noir long coat, pants, and dress shoes). Because of how the coats work in FFXIV, it makes my character look flat so I always sigh in relief when I hear someone refer to my character as "he" rather than "she" because of her looks and attire
the ominous music LMAO
Lmaoo the one winged angel theme 😂 so good!!
I just tell everyone I'm a guy and my voice sounds like a guy, people usually believe me.
Lool the OWA music, too.
thats why if I ever find romantic interest in someone and they like me as well. a video call is the only way. I refuse to be lied to.
The part where she blames the FC leaders was... interesting.
They were horrible FC leaders.
I lol'd when One Winged Angel suddenly went playin lmao
Personally if i was op i’d be angry due to him lying not due to his gender
Yeah, thats what I thought.
lmao ikr
that bgm was on point, i love it!
Feels like I should send in my ffxiv story about how I accidentally catfished a toxic dude bro in questioning his sexuality.
Getting annoyed with this guy. Just trying to force a fake *one-sided* relationship.
I hear this a lot and never understood the whole ass thing. I guess I am never looking at that or focused on it enough to deter me from a sex to play.
@@kenamada5451 I don't get it either, as a female I cant get myself to play a guy
What the helll ???? Dude be crazy like ummm ...
When I heard Brynhildr and ARR I was about to be like "Oh shit is this someone I know? I knew a lot of crazy cat girls back then"
This is why you shouldn't take things seriously unless you know the things you should know
LMAO @ THE ONE WINGED ANGEL MUSIC
Part of this story reminds of the traumatic experience I had in this game
A year and a half but no voice calls? Aight.
I get having fun and flirting and whatnot...but man ppl take this too far..like they don't actually even know eqchother or their mannerism.
Crystal player here, i hope you find your forever fc, and if it takes a while, you'll find it. ❤
wait wait wait, hold the phone.
prae was 24p raid???
its like female viera 99% are dude, no tea no shades.
..oh...I knew it! LOL.
As a cat girl in game I make sure to use he/him in fc discord
borderlines a bit on transphobic rhetoric toward the end of the video with automatically trying to id or assume what ppl are based on voice lol
Hi Pathra! I have a question for you. Do you keep in touch with Silvername?
Not since around the Hearthstone Grandmasters in Taiwan. We are just streamer friends who could barely communicate since he speaks Russian and barely any English ^^
Hm. The last stuff about ID'ing a guy feels a bit transphobic, as is the stuff about voices - I mean, catfishing is a thing for sure, but trying to clock others and describing strategies like that is a little... ehhhhhhh...
Imagine thinking that people in game are actually their gender of their avatar xD
it's just a game why do people stress over these things with people they will prolly never meet
it's just bizarre.
As an Fc leader myself she said nothing to the fc leaders no discomfort non of that yet she still blames the FC leader
it's a video game not a day care, I mean if you want the FC leaders to be mind readers then you should also hold the GMs to the same standard
the game devs should just make this type of behavior impossible they'll temp ban people that do it then the game will be better (not really no)
Tbh Ziel should have lost respect for OP anyways after she said "no matter what it will be fine" and then after learning that he was a guy off in flipping narnia somewhere began to become awkward and treat him differently.
The classic catfish
I'm a girl and I always paly and say I'm a guy
play solo. Problem solved.
woud i get in trubble if i take my game logick for gender pronounces to the real world?
if thers boobs its "she" >.< it takes so mutch of my sosial energy to worry about ofending thin skinned people that i have become a shut in and i do suffer lonelyness even tho in introverted. ALOT
yes you would offend people, and you are the thin skinned person if you become a shut in rather than just respecting people
second! :D
first
My god incels...... sheesh
Video still doesn't work. Make up and talent will suprise you. Baggy clothes and long curly hair or wig can make things confusing
