I did not realize how much I truly liked and appreciated Jester as a character until Laura was absent last week. It was not the same without her, so I'm so happy she's back. Also Talisen's hair is gorgeous.
Oh, I agree about Ashley as well. It's always great to have her precious face back. But I think because, lately anyway, she's been gone more often than not that I'm used to the crew without Yasha around. Jester is a different matter. To be fair, it's one of the best parts of being a wizard. My equivalent is overacting the verbal component, because nothing quite compares to putting on your Gandalf voice and loudly saying "CAST: FIREBALL"
NG DeXt to ship someone means you anticipate that they and the person you ship them with are going to become a couple. So Laura tried to say fjord and jester should be a couple. Caleb says the ship sank, as in fjord shut down the possibility of a relationship
Shipping is when a fandom cant just be happy with the narrative and they have to impose a romantic subplot into everything. Much like Hollywood in general.

@@toastedt140 Return of the Lazy DM is one of the best 5th edition resource books I have ever come across. It helped me go from overpreparing and spending too long on unnecessary and complicated prep work to loosening up, being more flexible and better at improvising, and reducing my prep time by hours in some cases. Having DM'ed for a couple of groups of siblings and friends, I can attest that the average player will be happy with an extremely simple and straightforward campaign plot where they get to unwind with their friends, kick some ass, and have a good time.

I love watching Laura overtly flirt with Travis through Jester while he eggs her on, simultaneously playing Fjord as completely unaware/disinterested. This is golden entertainment.
There is a hidden side to this, Travis has insisted on multiple occasions on talks machina and at cons that he has zero interest in getting into any romantic entanglement in game, he didn’t as grog and he said at the end of campaign 1 in the wrap up he enjoyed watching it but he was as turning up to hit things and have fun and did not want to be drawn into anything like Vax and keyleth or Percy and vex in the future. Laura I believe took that as a challenge :).
People say that we should get Wil Wheaton to help 826LA. I say we get Jerry, from Acquisitions Incorporated. Because he rolls ones more than Wheaton. Wheaton just rolls poorly, not always ones.

I think that if the cube had gotten Beau they would have all groaned a little bit. But once they thought the cube was going to get the cat, the whole table was up yelling. Perfect. Absolute perfection.
It's funny how Liam went for weeks barely able to hit anything before suddenly landing 3 consecutive attacks while blinded. It's like the dice know Caleb needs to get serious when Nott is in danger (as with the Manticore fight when he took out the priest).

1:00:46 TRUTH, cats somehow not having darkvision in the PHB is rly bullshit. We always houseruled them having at least 30 ft of darkvision, partly so there's an actual incentive for druids to wild shape into a cat at night to scout something in a city, it just makes a lot of sense.
Yet another case of the unfortunate oversimplication of 5e. As a 3.5e lover, this is a perfect situation for low light vision. Cats can't truly see in pitch blackness, but they can see in super low light *SO* much better than people.
I feel like I would homebrew cats DO have night vision but DON'T have perception advantage under light. (More accurate since cats actually don't see that sharply at certain distances under light.)

I think you're forgetting that it's still a game, and mechanics are a thing for a reason. There are many contradictory things in every edition of DnD (and pathfinder) that don't make sense, but are the way they are for the sake of how it plays out mechanically.
@@5oundOfVictory some other examples include: padded armor giving disadvantage on stealth even though it would be better than leather, spears not being finesse even though you need more dexterity than strength to use one properly, half plate giving disadvantage despite its description suggesting that the plates wouldn't collide or scrape against each other, some spells that should probably be concentration not being so, and the existence of ring mail, it is objectively worse than any other armor type in the game, the name would more accurately describe chainmail, and what the rules describe it as makes no sense in addition to being the only armor neither based on history nor a typical fantasy trope (Edit: and that's just the player's handbook)
@@phenjaws569 Why would leather armor be chosen as an option if padded armor didn't give disadvantage on stealth? Giving a reach weapon finesse would make the stat even more OP than it already is, and completely rule out the use of rapiers, shortswords, scimitars, etc. Also, you now have a 10ft reach d10 damage die with sneak attack. I do agree that 5e is a bit heavy on disadvantage and advantage instead of just flat bonuses (like -2 or whatever) which would be a bit more forgiving, and make more sense. Spellcasters also got huge buffs in 5e compared to previous editions, and some spells requiring concentration that don't could really waste a lot of potential in caster classes. But the ringmail thing, I 100% agree with you, same with half plate (though I'd impose a -3 to stealth, rather than disadvantage, because the idea is that a metal plate banging against something exterior (like a rock or table) is gonna make more noise than leather bumping into the same thing.
@@5oundOfVictory I wasn't saying that these things didn't make sense aside from ring mail, I was listing examples of rules that are there to balance the game but aren't as realistic as some others, I completely understand why everything but ring mail is the way that it is, although making it so that leather armor has a 12 AC and studded leather has 13 would make padded armor more of an option, but I understand why they didn't do that, because if they had it like that, someone who rolled a high dexterity score would have equal or greater protection compared to chainmail (assuming they rolled 16 or 18 on dex and/or played an elf, raising the score to an 18 or 20) which would make the game at least a little less balanced, so I understand the mechanical reasons that these things are the way they are in Dungeons and Dragons, I was listing examples of other rules that aren't very realistic but make the game more fun (although given that padded armor is objectively worse than leather armor [which, again most classes start with] makes its presence a little superfluous as literally every other set of armor is better including what you start with)
I guess maybe the argument is that a familiar is technically a minor spirit and not the actual animal it takes the form of. Still bullshit though imho.

Darius Dahmen What they said is actually very smart! The top comment states will-o-wisp is feu follet in French, which comes from the Latin “ignis fatuus” which when put to French is “feu bouffon” which in English is “jester fire”. The French person replying is saying that ignis fatuus in English is “fools fire” and that jester and fool are used interchangeably, so much so that they became synonymous. So back then they used to call jack-o’-lanterns “ignis fatuus” and initially fool/jester was kinda like synonymous with jack o lanterns. But today the best definition of jack o lantern in French is different, just like it’s not “feu bouffon” and it’s now “feu follet”. For fool vs jester, it’s like a square and a rectangle. Basically they’re used mostly interchangeably and nobody is like really going to care if you say square versus rectangle. It’s not a big deal. But a square isn’t a rectangle still. It’s for clarification so things don’t get so lost in translation. And then they say thanks for the subtitles. My translation guarantee you isn’t perfect but I did study French for a bit. 'It is sad when ships sink'
Just after Laura tries to ship Jester and Fjord.
It's especially great to see Laura's face when she realizes it only a few seconds after she replies to Caleb
Dont get what liam said. Completely went over my head! Can you explain.
I also like how matt was the only one who got it at first

When you have players like these folks, then it's worth putting that amount of effort and planning in. But I find most players have fun regardless of how hard you work. I've saved myself a lot of time and energy (and resentment for player apathy) by planning less. But when you do find the committed group ready to do some storybuilding, then the reward is worth it. Love and respect!

While Beau jumps around him angrily because it takes so long :D
To be fair, this is also a cool thing for Matt because my DM wont let me ritual cast anything unless our party is waking up or going to bed.
@@Lindvvyrm that sounds harsh. Surely you should be able to do it during a short rest, even if your DM might not want to slow the pace down at other times. For me there's a reason spells have the ritual tag- so you can cast them between battles without burning slots.
@@archie4president330 so I recently had a discussion with him, he said that he said it was for only when my spell slots were spent. I asked if i could try to just take the ritual 10 mins for detect magic during the game and he said I could. I have been getting quite frustrated tbh.
It's one of those made for balance mechanical issues where no common sense has been applied
Especially cause Tabaxi get night vision cause of their cat eyes
Yet another case of the unfortunate oversimplication of 5e. As a 3.5e lover, this is a perfect situation for low light vision. Cats can't truly see in pitch blackness, but they can see in super low light *SO* much better than people.
I feel like I would homebrew cats DO have night vision but DON'T have perception advantage under light. (More accurate since cats actually don't see that sharply at certain distances under light.)
Yep, my rules are cat's have dark vision, and Dragonborn as well.

I think you're forgetting that it's still a game, and mechanics are a thing for a reason. There are many contradictory things in every edition of DnD (and pathfinder) that don't make sense, but are the way they are for the sake of how it plays out mechanically.
@@5oundOfVictory some other examples include: padded armor giving disadvantage on stealth even though it would be better than leather, spears not being finesse even though you need more dexterity than strength to use one properly, half plate giving disadvantage despite its description suggesting that the plates wouldn't collide or scrape against each other, some spells that should probably be concentration not being so, and the existence of ring mail, it is objectively worse than any other armor type in the game, the name would more accurately describe chainmail, and what the rules describe it as makes no sense in addition to being the only armor neither based on history nor a typical fantasy trope
(Edit: and that's just the player's handbook)
You can put things INSIDE the gelatinous cube mini?!

Fun fact will-o'-the-wisp is "feu follet" in french that come from latin "ignis fatuus" meaning "feu bouffon" or "jester fire" in english.

What they said is actually very smart!
Hope it helps. There’s definitely a lot of layers information wise.

@localcryptid42 Oh, one of _those_ people. You're making the subtle implication that there's misogyny afoot (don't deny it, the whole argument on what is a more appropriate labeling borders on the debate of misogyny) because somebody referred to a woman as a man's wife -- which isn't inaccurate and should be considered an honor just as it would be for him to be a husband, but I doubt you go around correcting people, more specifically women, when she refers to a man as a husband rather than by birth name.
