@@Cronustimelord Each to their own but I highly recommend DMs check out the return of the lazy dungeon masters guide. When you have players like these folks, then it's worth putting that amount of effort and planning in. But I find most players have fun regardless of how hard you work. I've saved myself a lot of time and energy (and resentment for player apathy) by planning less. But when you do find the committed group ready to do some storybuilding, then the reward is worth it. Love and respect!
@@toastedt140 Return of the Lazy DM is one of the best 5th edition resource books I have ever come across. It helped me go from overpreparing and spending too long on unnecessary and complicated prep work to loosening up, being more flexible and better at improvising, and reducing my prep time by hours in some cases. Having DM'ed for a couple of groups of siblings and friends, I can attest that the average player will be happy with an extremely simple and straightforward campaign plot where they get to unwind with their friends, kick some ass, and have a good time.

Those words are the most feared words in a D&D Campaign.
That’s it, that’s the entire campaign
So dumb
1:00:46 TRUTH, cats somehow not having darkvision in the PHB is rly bullshit. We always houseruled them having at least 30 ft of darkvision, partly so there's an actual incentive for druids to wild shape into a cat at night to scout something in a city, it just makes a lot of sense.
It's one of those made for balance mechanical issues where no common sense has been applied
Especially cause Tabaxi get night vision cause of their cat eyes
Yet another case of the unfortunate oversimplication of 5e. As a 3.5e lover, this is a perfect situation for low light vision. Cats can't truly see in pitch blackness, but they can see in super low light *SO* much better than people.
I feel like I would homebrew cats DO have night vision but DON'T have perception advantage under light. (More accurate since cats actually don't see that sharply at certain distances under light.)
Yep, my rules are cat's have dark vision, and Dragonborn as well.
I love how while they’re discussing what Evocation magic does, everyone’s like “oh yeah it does fire and lightning and elemental stuff” and all very cool with it while Liam is on the side, mumbling as Caleb “it’s killing” and things along that line.

He wants to surprise people with every spell and item they get so I doubt it
James Cross Matt did literally ask for it to be a thing.
Isn’t Sam’s company now named Metapigeon or something?
As a someone who bingewatches a lot, you guys can not even imagine how great it is to discover Critical Role in 2019
EDIT: DAMN TIME FLIES, Those who started in 2020, 2021, 2022, 2023, lucky you
With ya there!
Just discovered it this week! So much to catch up on!
It's also an absolute hell and I haven't had a life in months, but I'm right there with ya, bud.
It's been my primary form of entertainment and salve for my sanity these past 3 month. I both look forward to and dread catching up to the current episode.
It's good and bad because yes I get to binge watch, but I watch to watch it live so bad. Also spoilers are inevitable unfortunately
Caleb: [During reading of the charred book, to DM] "I'm not telling anyone this."
Marisha: Continues writing furiously.
As a DM you have to understand that just cause a character doesn’t know smt doesn’t meant a player can’t . It’s very valuable to have a note taker bc they can share what they have written down. Otherwise you get times where people completely forget things and that really sucks for players and leaves a story to be unsatisfactory. Its good to have note takers is all I’m saying. As long as they don’t meta game.
It’d be nice if I had players invested enough to bother taking some/any notes. I would previously have said “as long as they can compartmentalize player from character.” But as we get older and our brains get worse, if anyone writes down anything and it’s even remotely correct,… that’s fine. Just stop making me recap. I’m tired. Write it down, man…
Reposting cuz it's too far down

Between Twitch and UA-cam, live viewership of this episode peaked around 59,000 people. The in-game start day for the episode was the 20th of month Fessurian 835 PD. Sam’a flask says “FART”
If you’re the kind of person who wants to see the Critical Role team in person at a convention, but hasn’t been able to yet, you might be interested in Critical Scope. This UA-cam channel films and posts panels and interviews from the cast so you’ll always know when someone accidentally lets a character detail slip. They recently posted a talk with Matt about his role in the D&D resurgence. Check it out.
Any moments I missed? Feel free to post them here. Is it Thursday yet?
Man you watched the video fast!
You're doing gods work man
44:11 - Jester power rowing
Alex Sarafilovic came to say this same thing
can we get G&S to just pin these?
Matt moves the cube to consume Frumpkin.
The whole table erupts in protest.
Ashley laughs.
Matt admits to just wanting to mess with them and moves the cube past. :)
Love these guys :D
It always impresses me just how much of the rules Matt has memorized.
Not to down on that, but he has been dming 5e for 5 years now. You get to know you're way around after while.
I like that he knows them but still needs to pull out the books on occasion due to the groups actions in game.
"LOOOOOSEEE" And in that one moment Travis was no more, there was only Grog.

Best comment I've found so far
As someone who binges this show while baked like banana bread, I find it rather amusing.
I can second this lmao
But, all that means....more for us that LOVE weed!! Being high af and watching these awesome folk is definitely on my list of "happy places", Thanks, CR!
@@DarkDecimus Lol that’s how I spent this summer when not at work XD
I like how Liam makes really good use of the ritual magic ability to cast spell without using slots.
as a cleric it makes my heart warm to in-universe make everyone else sit around doing jack diddly for 10 minutes waiting on me because we need to read something and no one else can cast comprehend languages and I'm spell slot stingy
While Beau jumps around him angrily because it takes so long :D
To be fair, this is also a cool thing for Matt because my DM wont let me ritual cast anything unless our party is waking up or going to bed.
@@travisanderson6431 that sounds harsh. Surely you should be able to do it during a short rest, even if your DM might not want to slow the pace down at other times. For me there's a reason spells have the ritual tag- so you can cast them between battles without burning slots.
@@archie4president330 so I recently had a discussion with him, he said that he said it was for only when my spell slots were spent. I asked if i could try to just take the ritual 10 mins for detect magic during the game and he said I could. We were on our way into a dungeon and I started ritual casting detect magic twice before we went in to check for magical traps, both times he had us encounter some small scouting party of enemies who aimed for me first because I was meditating. I have been getting quite frustrated tbh.
COVID-19 Isolation watch party. Made it through 14 episodes in about 10 days. Anybody else here during quarantine?
Andrew Woods Day 65 inside for me (Watching from China)! Critical Role has saved my sanity, made it through Campaign one a bit ago, and desperately missing my D&D group.
@Sabrina Waterfield I would have to agree. It’s easier to show stuff like maps and dungeons but my players are kinda new so that has been posing some problems.
@The Mine Thanks! (sarcasm was appreciated) Hope you are staying safe and healthy during this time!
Andrew Woods yes but I am an essential employee so I’m moving a lil slower
Azo same. Hope you stay safe
I love that they TOTALLY forgot about freeing that dwarf's wife from prison, and he went and unlived himself xD
That’s Dolan’s job
Laura’s face when Matt is describing fjord “pulling out a rod” is perfect
What critical role has taught me: all voice actors have the sense of humor of a 12 year old boy
Try all actors in general. Also dancers and instrumentalists. (All three of which I am, lol.)
and that's the reason it's so good.
Srsly...whole crew needed to go to horny jail this episode (not complaining, it was hilarious)
I first saw this at 58:48
Or maybe it's because said 12 year old boy's childhoood were filled by those voice actors
It's funny how Liam went for weeks barely able to hit anything before suddenly landing 3 consecutive attacks while blinded.
It's like the dice know Caleb needs to get serious when Nott is in danger (as with the Manticore fight when he took out the priest).
I like that Beau does the same thing on her first turn. All four of her hits landed. Beau and Caleb can factually fight better blinded than able to see lmao.
Oh wait they could see lmao nvm
And there is that time he disintegrated that Leader of the Thieves on their travel to Zardash while all of them were in danger
@@faulerpanda7376 And then was immediately shot to death.

no spoilers but another example of the dice knowing when stuff is getting real is episode 129

After officially watching all of campaign 2, the best line is (insert drumroll): "No more dick jokes, just focus on the cube!"
Which has a hidden meaning from VM, too! 😂

For a non native english speaker, the subtitles really helps and adds on the depth of understanding what is going on. Keep it up the good work, really apreciated those who help translate the audio..

CR Transcripts, a group of fans, make better captions in a couple of weeks.
Check out their website.
Kris Barski afding to that. If you speak english ,(writen) and you are decnt at translating, they ae making versions on another languagues. They never say no to help.
For a native English speaker, it helps understand what they are saying as well.
Ikr? I cant follow without them because everythings just too quick
Es verdad, es util para enfocarse.
I saw the fan art of all the different Calebs and I went DUDE. is the dodecahedron literally a d20? and those are all the different branching versions of himself if the dice had landed differently? DUDE. THAT'S DEEP.
Dodecahedron is a 12 sided.
D20 is an icosahedron

fjord: is there anything around here that looks like a staff
bo (with a staff on her back): i dunno, lemmie look around
Lol, honestly, that would've been me. "Got a perfectly good rod-like-stick on my back, but imma look for somethin' else because i don't want to lose my stick'.
I mean he probably meant something that would act as a key and I don't think Beau's staff would be able to do that as it's not the correct key
Nott doesn’t have any of her sticks on her too?
I was thinking maybe they use one of the arrows from the trapped hallway
Same energy as me looking for the glasses that I'm currently wearing
Liam constantly saying "neunzehn" (nineteen) for nine, when counting in German gives me so many chuckles. His dedication to a character's personality is so damn good 💜
I love how Liam gets so excited for gelatinous cube since it's such a classic enemy and he's played the game since he was a kid.
