  • A few months ago now we took a look at the prototype version of the Asetek Simsports Invicta pedals and were very impressed with them. Now it's time to take a look at the full retail version!
    Asetek have been a major player in the tech scene for almost 20 years, supplying many OEMs with their AIO cooling hardware. With a rich heritage in motorsports, they enter the sim racing scene with huge plans for a complete turn-key ecosystem, as well as a large-scale manufacturing capacity. Their first product? The Invicta Hydraulic Sim Racing Pedals.

    Wow Will. You are so reliable and "on point" and it is noted and appreciated. I was waiting for this review and here it is on Feb 14th as promised. I am currently constructing a new 55" OLED triple screen rig (fingers crossed on the display port adapters to the 3090 lol) and it is loaded mostly with all goodies that you have reviewed. All of your content has been so invaluable and so pertinent (not to mention enjoyable and polished). I cannot believe how I continue to google search for very specific information and always seem to find myself back at Boosted Media for the reliable rundown. Just want to say thank you!

      @@MaxJacuzziPlanning to use the Display Port to HDMI adapters claiming to be 4k@120/8k@60 to try to find the highest possible fps that the LG OLEDs can put out which is 4k@120, there are a few brands that claim this performance (Uptab, Cable Matters, Club 3D) but sounds like Cable Matters is a no go based on my internet research, I imagine this is going to take some potential experimenting with different brands, I am presently waiting on some PC parts for the PC build which is holding me up here, you can check out Karl Gosling on his UA-cam channel where he was able to get up and running with the LG OLED triples but I believe he is mainly running in 1440p most of the time, hoping I can get further as in beyond 60 fps while running 4k like Will has been able to achieve but he use OMEN monitors with Display Ports built in (cheater lol), hoping this Display Port to HDMI is not the weakest link but it may be, figuring worst case I run 1440p (or 4k@60 if I like it looks smooth enough) and maybe down the line better Display Port adapters become available, I am pretty confident it will still be big fun and eye candy at 1440p

    • @MaxJacuzzi
      @MaxJacuzzi 2 роки тому

      @@Cam-cording thank you for your really helpful response. The disadvantage with current DP to HDMI adapters for me is the lack of VRR/G-Sync. While 1440p@60 fixed shouldn't be a problem (but you always got the feeling that there could be more :D), 1440p@120 could be a problem (ACC night/rain) and even with a 3090 4k@60 won't work in every scenario IMO (I'm running a 3080, so 4k@60 won't work with all games, no chance with AMS2 and rain for example). I got a 3080 AORUS with 3 VRR-capable HDMI-ports, but because one port ist HDMI 2.0 I'm capped at 4k@60 and even 1440p@120 works only with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling (at least for me, don't know why).
      So in result my dilemma is: VRR with limitations due to HDMI 2.0 or Adapters with "full bandwith" (4k120 RGB or 4:4:4) but without VRR. Hoping like you for a) better Adapters or b) for Nvidia 4XXX-Series with 3 HDMI 2.1 ports :D

I wish companies like Fanatec did more in this area tbh. I do the same thing with the throttle, my heel stays planted and the bottom of my foot slides on the pedal plate as I depress it, to make it perfectly smooth, I bought some 1/16th inch thick PTFE sheet and cut a piece th same shape as the pedal plate and double side taped it on the plate so my racing shoe sole slides on it very smoothly, makes throttle modulation super accurate!

      That is the million dollar question. BUT, the huge advantage to this proprietary brake set up I see anyway, is that it is a closed system that uses non carcinogenic fluid, and no chance for the bumpers to blow out over time and no fluid to leak and cause issues.

Is it so much that you get sore knees and legs from driving with it, or can you find a compromise without amidst the obvious advantage these paddles have in their 2-stage hard-stop system?

      @@dennishampe4465 thanks for your answer. I am familiar with these differently elastomers, but is not the basic principle with these new pedals that during hard braking, you press the brake all the way to the hard end stop and modulate the brake pressure around there? If it is properly assumed, the elastomer no longer matters and the paddle will be rock hard there, right!?
      In other words, is the point with these new pedals to brake in the "soft" area, or to push the brake all the way down the hard end stop, and then modulate it around there?

    What wheel are you using on this video?

  • @alexthreepedals5891
    @alexthreepedals5891 2 роки тому +8

    From what I learned from Asetek's Invicta video, the rubber compression before mechanical bump stop is to simulate brake pad to disk take up.
    Therefore, this part of travel (squishing rubber to mechanical bump stop) wouldn't give you any stopping power in real life.
    When calibrating, do I need to calibrate this part of travel out?
    Because from your video, when you calibrate your brake pedal, 80% of your braking pressure barely pass the mechanical bump stop.
    Which in real life shouldn't give you any stopping power.

    • @helmetculture
      @helmetculture 2 роки тому +3

      DUDE YES. that's the exact same thing going through my head. If the travel is Sim RE; pad to rotor then it should be 0 value in pressure.
      ALL reviews I've seen of this have either explained it ass backwards or have been briefed Hella incorrectly. It's so confusing that it shouldn't be.

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  2 роки тому +3

      The calibration is pretty subjective but what feels right to me is to be hitting 80% (the general amount of braking pressure you want to be applying when you hit the brakes at the end of a straight in most cars). This can be calibrated to whatever force feels comfortable to you but the mechanical threshold between the elastomer and hard stop provides a very consistent way to feel this, thus hitting it accurately every time.
      You can then modulate your braking around this threshold point as required. If you watch VRS track guides, etc, you’ll see they don’t always brake to the same force for every corner. It depends greatly on the balance and speed of the car.
      As for the uptake, I have a little bit of slack in the pedal before the elastomer is engaged which I use to simulate this. If you watch my first look video you’ll see the cold brake squeal happens exactly where the pedal starts to engage with the elastomer which is the way it should be as that’s what happens in real life.
      With my calibration the elastomer accounts for 0% to 80%, then the 2nd hard stage accounts for 80-100%.

      @helmetculture 2 роки тому +2

      @Boosted Media thank you so much for taking the time to reply. I see where you're coming from. With your calibration being set as you mentioned. 0 to 80 on travel and 80 to 100 on pressure, this sounds great for Sim racing but then has no correlation to real race car brakes. The video Dave Cameron did on Dave cam has his calibrated the same way, which in terms of reality has to be the incorrect calibration. Asetek themselves mentioned the travel is to simulate the travel of pad to rotor therefore bearing a 0 value. In my opinion. Karl described it best and if you time stamp his video. From 17:05 to 22:45 I think he mentioned it THE BEST. I guess the real question posed is, do you want realism or do you want to be fast in the Sim, there's a fundamental disconnect between the two at the moment. In real racing. You cannot escape the travel of pad to rotor. In Sim racing if you simulate it properly, you're losing time that others aren't. Stuck between rock and a hard place.

    • @boostedmedia
      @boostedmedia  2 роки тому +5

      The way Karl described it is incorrect. That is not how the pedals are meant to be calibrated. You can loosen the retainer off to create a dead zone where you only feel the resistance provided by the retainer spring and hydraulic fluid, which would essentially make it a 3 stage system. This is optional.
      The elastomer is not meant to simulate pedal uptake. It’s meant to simulate the first braking stage to the threshold point.

    One thing I noticed is you do have some flex in your pedal tray. It may be something for people to be aware of. Because the pedal is so stiff, you will need a very strong pedal tray. The design looks very robust so you will need to make sure what you mount them to is also as robust.

    • @dennishampe4465

      You absolutely need a robust pedal tray (otherwise the tray itself will flex) or aluminum profiles.
      Having tried these on a few rigs (among others the Rennsport cockpit) I can say, that in some cases you need to reinforce the thin pedal trays :)

    Pedals look quality, and they may have a point with brake setup, but look at pedal cam videos from real race cars. They have travel. Pedals travel is a function of bore and stroke size of the brake cylinder. It feels like there is a fair bit of marketing spin at play.

      I agree. With all the on-boards of various race car pedal cam views I've watched over the years show brake pedals with a certain length of travel while being pressed which is determined by car, setup and driver strength. The RL ones aren't really like the "dead stop" that these asetek pedals have but it's all down to a sim drivers preference I guess.
