Hey first
I'm so early
Please try to guide me I have send you my problem as a comment . it'll be nice of you if you tell me what to do .
Hi there Mr. Rob lone time no see by the way the UA-cam have remover the spam comments from my UA-cam studio just today you know.
I have received a lot of copyright claims. A 1/3 of the videos on my channel are copyright claimed. It sucks because I'm actually creating content around the clips I use. It's not like I'm just re-uploading music videos.
I got a copyright claim on *my own music,* disputed the claim, and because UA-cam gives all the power to the _alleged copyrights holder,_ it got rejected. Great system, love it!
That sucks. Did it strike because it was a melody used in another song or was it detected as the original song?
Same

You know why guys, you must’ve remixed someone’s music and even though it’s your own it doesn’t count

Artist here!
Got a copyright strike the other day since I had music in the background playing. It was copyright free music but apparently it’s only licensed for twitch livestreams and not UA-cam. I got striked for “spam/deceptive practices” which REALLY sucks. I’ve decided to completely leave music out of everything now because I really want to monetize my art.
Really really hoping my monetization isn’t affected by this down the line. It’s frustrating how something like this gets a strike and yet there are THOUSANDS of videos out there of full length movies, tv shows and cartoons that pass by without a problem. Seems SUPER unfair

What? How? What songs did your use?
@@vizeath it's been 1 year. I can't remember that.
Idk man. It happened. Plus I don't know which one of my videos got copyrighted
Thanks for including the playlist on the end screen! I just wish it also had a video about copyright regarding fonts/typefaces. I'm not surprised that most of the attention gets focused on music copyright because music is so important to making a video and the automated tools make it easier for copyright holders to find matches, but I wonder if it's only a matter of time before they've created automated systems to find copyrighted fonts used in videos as well :\
One of the issues with some of the "copyright claims" is that there are bot-sniffers that sniff out this data. At least when it comes to music. I can understand why, but to make a claim a human should have control of that, not a bot. Bots can flag. Humans can check, then claim.
My church uploads the services on Sunday (the service is livestreamed on Facebook during the regular-church service time, and then uploaded to UA-cam afterwards for those that couldn't watch it live), and A LOT of the hymns are public domain, a lot of the tunes are public domain; the music used when we were not able to meet falls under the license my church has for this content (with some hymns as exceptions, but none of those exceptions have been used); when we were still able to meet in person: the organist is live-playing the music. The videos would still get copyright claims within seconds of the upload being completed and/or processed (I can't remember which). The only way someone could possibly do that is if their sitting there staring at a screen waiting for a "copyright breach." Which leads me to believe that it's not a real person: it is a bot.
Regardless of the copyright claims, my church has a license to use the content (as mentioned above).
It's "hilarious" when the "copyright owner" tries to argue back and say that "they still feel like it's their content." It's also hilarious when they try to claim that a portion of the video is "violating copyright" when there's another portion earlier in the video (or later) that uses that same hymn. It's "hilarious" that they try to make a claim on a hymn that doesn't even go by the name they claim.... It's also "hilarious" that they're trying to claim public domain content in the first place.
Also keep in mind: some of the hymns, tunes, etc. are over 200 years old....
[Side note: I know about these claims because my father is the Pastor, and is the one that is running the UA-cam channel for the church, etc.]
I agree, it happens in our church, few videos copyrighted, it was in a church service but it was copyrighted. I didn't remove the video. Well, it's their revenue even though it is for church service purposes only.
It happens in our church too. The same scenario here as well and we use the Hymnal which are more than 200 years old. We are not running it for monetarization? I am not sure whether we have to worry about copyright claim or not
1 question, will copyright claims EVER delete my yt channel? I'm okay with not getting money but I don't want my channel deleted (Not copyright strikes, copyright claims)
@@ehanayaanrocks - From what I understand a copyright claim cannot take someones channel down, but it can result in a copyright strike, depending on the situation.
If you google "What is a copyright claim? youtube" there'll be a link in the search results that goes to what youtube provides as an explanation. I don't think I can share links here without the comment being deleted, otherwise I'd share it here. lol
@@arnoldmmr - It really depends. I suggested to my father to challenge the copyright claims, in the event that the "person"/company making the claim (whether they had an actual proper legal claim to it or not) decided that they wanted to slap an ad on that portion of the video, or some such that would interrupt the service. I'm not entirely sure if they could do that anymore, anyways.
I do remember having a project for university where I put music (that was free to use for certain purposes, such as educational purposes) to the project (it was also PART of the project), and the portion that included the music ended up being copyright claimed, and they slapped an ad on the video. If I remember correctly anyways. lol That was... five? years ago now. It's been a while anyways. lol
one of my friend's friend had 22k subs on their channel and no copyright strikes or claims and their channel was terminated. He tweeted youtube but nothing happended. He is still not sure why his channel was terminated, and he probably lost a lot of revenue too.
Jeez that's like my worst nightmare
bruh that can happen??
Wow. That is terrible! I remember someone saying they keep copies of their uploads in case something like that happens. UA-cam can have glitches just like another website. And UA-cam isn't always right. Anyone who uploaded on UA-cam probably knows this 😆
Sounds like Roblox moderation to me.
My gf got a strike just because she was showing her new sandals. Apparently showing feet is a sin on UA-cam. So childish 🙄

This is the first video that really gets deep into this. It’s and arduous but important topic! 🙏🏻
Thank you so much for this video I had no idea what to do and now I do!
I didn't really know what do to with my copyright videos until I watch this video,Thank you!
I've received copyright claims on MUCH older videos on my other channel, but that's because I never wanted to monetise those videos, no matter how well they did, and right now I still can't monetise them cos I'm not in the YPP yet. Those videos did well in the early days but now no one watches them at all. Fun fact: even if you have *EXPRESS PERMISSION* from the copyright holder to use music in a video, there's no guarantee that the video won't have a claim against it due to the "sophisticated" content ID system. I've been down this path before, I know where it leads.
This was very helpful. Thank you!
What happened to ur vids bro ? Did it get deleted ? Im also new to these stuffs, im glad i get the chance to learn these stuffs.
@@GagaTheArcher the videos are fine, they're still on the channel but ineligible for earnings if I'm in the YPP. youtube's way of identifying older audio content on all my previous vids, frankly, should be exempt from their audio recognition system. if it gets through the first time, then I don't believe anyone should be retroactively punished henceforth.
Interesting- thank you. I have this channel that I make trash edits on for fun- idc if they get copyright claimed. It’s all for fun in the end.

I left the loops pack and now use my own packs that I made. Thanks for the functionl video
thank you so much! my father keeps telling me if I get anymore copyright claims that he'll delete my channel. I keep trying to tell him that a claim doesn't really do anything and that it just means that I don't make money off the video, but he won't listen! He even thinks I'm going to get sued. The worst part is, he thinks it'll effect our family as well. I will try to show him this video and hopefully he'll understand.

So that happens in India even you show them this kind videos
Im new to youtube videos, and im also worried that i could get sued, how to I avoid that, would copyright strikes or claims get me sued?
Well did he understand
If under 18 then sure they can sue your parents assets, to include, your home cars gold stocks etc.
Yes a family member was playing music in the background while I was recording and I didn’t even realise because it was so faint yet the company still put a claim in on me, I suppose it’s fair but at the same time I watch the video like three times and didn’t even notice it because it was so quiet

Hi Rob, I have recently applied and was accepted into the UA-cam partnership program even though I have copyright claims on most of my videos. I initially used free music from the Clipchamp editing program. Since then I have been editing on DaVinci Resolve. I have still used the same music as my theme song and background music for over 100 videos. Even though it said copyright on my channel it also said that the owner allowed it to be used. I am now learning that the rights owner of my music is now monetizing and also because I am not using Clipchamp anymore I don’t have the rights to the music either. I am in the process of trimming and muting all of my videos which has been a tedious process. As a new UA-camr I am disappointed in myself that I didn’t understand the details of how this works. Thanks so much for this video. I am sad that I have to change my theme music for my channel. 😥
that's why I only use youtube audio library for background music. don't trust those channels that says free music.
I got the best and most detailed explanation for this topic now. Thank you Rob and vidiq team. You nailed it.

I once has a copywrite claim made against me from a youtuber in an unknown country speaking a foreign language. Until recieveing the claim, I'd never heard of or seen them before. I simply replied to the claim and stated that not only did we both have clearly visible webcam on screen, and even our gameplay were both in completely different languages it was clearly impossible I'd copied his video just because I'd played the same game he had. It was removed within hours.

Gotta love that I can't make song covers, from scratch, with every sound coming from my mouth or my instrument, (in all cases but one,) without also getting claimed
Some labels are fine with use of the melody if its for covers. Others not so much. :P
Great video! But what if the "copyright owner" doesn't have a copyright for the material that they're claiming? Is it safe to dispute if the "copyrighted" video is in public domain?
TMZ recently copyright claimed a part of my video of the Johnny Depp trial where Kate Moss is giving her testimony. They have absolutely no exclusive rights to any of the trial video but UA-cam has decided that that section belongs to them because they also have a video with Kate Moss giving her testimony.
I'm not monetized but I don't want TMZ placing ads and earning revenue from content that they don't own. Is it worth it to dispute a claim? The risk seems pretty high. I doubt UA-cam is going to actually verify if TMZ owns the copyright and are probably just going to allow TMZ to remove my video and issue a strike.
Thank you so much! I was so worried 😅
Omg thank you so much I was panicking but this helped, I subbed!
Thank you Rob for the video! A helpful summary. Hope in the future the guidelines for fair use will be more defined and reasonable % percent of revenue will be shared with creaters as well if music is used. I've actually discovered a lot music and songs from videos by someone else.

@DAWN_0001 I have a question. I want to use a copyrighted song for a vid, but old about fair allowances and stuff. Did you get fined or anything? That’s what I’m worried about
I feel like deleting the offending video shouldn't be held against you, especially if the whole reason you deleted it was to go back and solve the issue of why it got struck in the first place. That's like punishing me spilling milk on the table even though I took accountability for it and cleaned the mess and the chairs, just to be on my folks' good side.
I agree. If a punishment would happen, it should be a very small one then. Instead of a copyright strike if you delete the offending video.

Thanks for making a video about this now i know whats going to happen if i ever get copyright claimed.
the video doesn't cover case: "Video cannot be monetised. The Content ID claim on your video doesn't affect your channel." When I have the license but have to wait a few days for acceptance, will I get the revenue back for the crucial viral period or will YT it not display any ads?
Is there no acceptable way to use part of a copyright claimed song over your original content video? If the notice says it doesn't affect your channel and it says "owner allows use on UA-cam " does it still affect your ability to get approved for monetization on the rest of your channel? (Assuming you don't care about monetization for that particular video). Sometimes there is a song that perfectly fits the narrative in the content and you don't mind giving up the few bucks you might make.

Hi and thank you for the video😊 what to do if I don’t see any options to fix a copyright claim such as remove the music or dispute? Is there a timeframe for these options?
I am experiencing the same thing with my first video
There should be no automatic claims at all. Looking at the list of possible copyright infringing videos, most of them are probably not doing anything wrong as far as I now. Probably all of them. If you were an evil guy, you could claim Leonhart's video because he was talking to you and has your logo in the livestream. UA-cam considers that a 100% violation for some reason. I can't find that livestream on your channel, so I don't get how that's considered a 100% copyright violation. We all know that video is fine, but if you had automated claims going on, you'd have falsely claimed him and many other videos too. Do you know what the false claim rate is? Based on that list, it must be pretty high. The benefit of the doubt is definitely not on the UA-camrs' side.
I was literally just researching this haha
Nice info...never knew this...but now i know
Thanks for letting us know what if you can’t ask for permission to use it but want/need to ask?
Thanks! Lots of great info! I have a couple questions. 1. How are there literally hundreds of thousands of UA-cam videos with famous, copyrighted songs uploaded? They are all just copyright claims and they get no ad revenue? 2. If I get a copyright strike on ONE of my channels, does it, or can it, cause a DIFFERENT channel I have on the same account to be demonetized? 3. If a single video cannot be monetized due to copyright claim, can other videos on the same channel still earn me money? Thanks!
I wonder about your first question!! I don’t understand. I literally watch UA-camrs who add tiktoks in their videos but don’t get copyrighted?
Love this video for its in depth explanation. Thank you! 🥰 Can you also make a video discussing copyright claims on UA-cam shorts?
I've been getting copyright claims on my videos. It's tough as a musician - I make covers, which is totally understandable, but I also make weekly vlogs as a musician where I film the gigs I play and the other bands. UA-cam is picking up the other bands' music and claiming it.
Thank you, this is helpful. I'm still wondering if once a strike expires, the creator can apply for monetization. On my channel I point out the flaws and false teachings of a particular group, and they decided to put a strike on one of my videos. It was just my commentary on one of their videos on their own website, not YT, and I included screen shots. Not even actual video footage. So, it's well within fair use. But YT doesn't seem to provide any kind of mediation to allow this dispute to be resolved. I also think the person who launched the claim probably did it to try and get my personal information, which YT can send to them if I decide to dispute it.
It’s such a confusing thing sometimes and you get copyright claims over random stuff sometimes

That part is totally understandable, but my real question is that if I wait for 90 days for the strike to expire, can I continue on making 50 more copyright claimed videos, wait 90 more days for the strike to expire, and repeat the process? If this 50 claims rule is automatic, then it means a bot made the strike instead of the actual copyright holders, so that means the copyright holders don't know that I even got a strike?
He meant like for every 50 people that get a copyright claim there is one person that gets a copyright strike (i think)
I’m scared now.

nope
a claimant can file up to 50 video takedown claims per request. If the request is permitted, the videos will be removed and the uploader will receive a strike.
incidentally, takedown request is a manual process from human
Very informative video. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day. 👌
This is very informative but my question is: ok, so if I have received a copyright strike and I don't dispute it, the strike should automatically expire after 90 days if I "don't do anything bad". But after the 90-day period has passed and the strike has expired, if by any chance I get another copyright strike later on, will the previously expired strike still count? Otherwise put, is a UA-cam channel terminated if it gets 3 copyright strikes during 90 days, OR if it has got a total of 3 copyright strikes throughout its entire life (whether those strikes are currently active or not)?
Thank You for explaining this in easily understood terms, I’ve received 1 copyright claim 😩
Me too what do you do about it because rove got one now and it's my first so im not sure what I do about it
It says In the channel membership and the monetization requirements that you can’t have a significant amount of ineligible videos... which are what copyright claims do... but do you know how many videos can’t be ineligible??
This was an great and fun video to enjoy watching today :)
Good content greatly appreciated
I laughed so hard with Darth. Loveeeeeee you Rob.❤️❤️❤️👏👏👏 yes I did.
I remember getting a copyright strike on a video. That video got blocked WORLDWIDE (196 countries if I remember correctly). I took down the video. It was caused by many copyrighted musics. It was catchy, however. The copyright strike expired, if you're wondering.
Fun fact: That video would have gotten 200 views if it wasn't copyrighted.
What happens when the copyright strike expires? Will it go back to zero strikes? or does the previous strike still counts in your YT channel forever?
@@ScoryYT I don't know, but I felt like a 5-year-old watching copyright school. I think you will still have the strike even when it has expired.
Hey William qn . Within the 90 days were you able to post any videos and did they get views?
We received a copywriting claim on our new intro music we made from ourCanva Pro account. The site said it was free, but it was flagged as being from Epidemic Sound. Being new creators we are trying to do our 'due diligence" to get to the bottom of this before it becomes too much of an issue. The puzzling thing, we had uploaded our new intro on a couple of previous videos, so we are not sure why the claim was made on one of our more recent videos.
6:30 So if you choose to remove the music let’s say does that then undo the claim and all the effects it had or would it already be too late for that video?
No, I have never received Copyright claim or strike, I have been very particular about it 😁 I would always give credit to the owner and use videos that have a Creative commons license. 👍👍👍
When's this video going public?
In one day
Today, two minutes ago.

I was hoping to see the types of copyright claims. For instance how a
copyright for music looks like. How a copyright for video looks like.
Hello I wanted to ask what to do if I do anime videos because ofc I use twixor from like for example Ringwitdahoodie or someone like that and I pretty often get copyright claim so what I would like to know how I can avoid getting copyright claim because I do my own videos and only use the twixors
one of my videos got copyrighted and yt said if i dont delete it i wouldve get a copyright strike ,but i deleted the vid so im chillin
My friend started a UA-cam and never got a single strike on his channel and literally every video has a copyrighted song on it. Meanwhile I got one for like 2 sec of a background song in my video.
*Bruhhh* 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️
Same dude
Thank you, I got copyrighted by a person who ships 2 characters and couldn't know what to do
But now I can relax and sit down for 3 months
Thank you this actually helped me because I got a copyright claim today on my most recent video
I have a few claims, so I'm also concerned that I won't get monetized because of this, and I'm getting really close to the YPP requirements.
😲
I’d be surprised if you got monetized
Great. Thanks.
Amazing content! One question: if the owner of the rights decide to track the video viewership stats i am not going to be able to continue monetizating the video ? Thanks !
I need some help. In my HeadSpace song The music I made I used sounds from a pack from bandlab and it's been copyright claimed by Lullaby Salmaan who does have the same sounds but it's not exactly the same as his song. How does that work? If we use the same sounds from a free pack we can make from scratch is it really copyright if it's just a little bit similar for a few seconds
