Hi , and THANK you so much for your kind words and feedback. When i uploaded this clip a few years ago , i had no idea it would get anywhere near this many views..........Cheers Dan :)
This is a really magnificent piece of music. My granddad was a semipro ragtime specialist pianist. He was good. He was once mistaken for a Pianola when he was playing this- but he had a good day job.
SO DO I wish I could play like my granddad- but it is not to be for me. See I could play piano a little and practiced an hour each day and was getting a bit better but- I WENT DOWN WITH MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS and that was the end of that. I still like listening to this sort of stuff though- Granddad was SO GOOD- it honestly sounds like my childhood memories of him playing- I'm not winding you up.@@PianolaDanOz
I love this song! It's so fast! I like it almost as much as the Maple Leaf Rag. This song sounds like something that would be played in an old Western movie while there's like a fight or something with the piano just playing in the background.
I really think Ragtime music Is cool. I enjoy Winifred Atwel and Scott Joplin, Although Joplin is earlier.. Their both really great.... I just don't see why ragtime is so good, I literally feel like I'm a century ago when I listen to pieces like this.. I'm only 11 and I just love ragtime... I really hope someone invents a time machine someday so we can experience the composer playing!
Love this tune absolutely fantastic, I have a Player Piano from 1916 and many rolls now I need to check if I have this tune. I have uploaded a few tunes and will do more soon, especially the Rag time stuff awesome music.
I already know how these work and all but you so right about how amazing it is to watch these! I mean this is a SELF-PLAYING PIANO FOR CRYING OUTLOUD!!! HOW COULD THIS NOT BE COOL!!!???
I love this song to! As for the key problem in your piano...See if the hammers are hitting or rubbing between one another. If they are, get a piano repair guy over and ask what he can do. Good luck!
this would be funny if we wanted a moment of silence and then somebody knocks the player piano into gear by accident then player piano starts going like this lol
Hi Dan, Many Thanks for your e-mail. Great to hear from you. Yes, Winifred Atwell and ABBA are my two big loves in Music. I'll definitely add this link to my website too, as soon as I get a chance. I have this exact same roll too and it is mostly based on Winifred Atwell's arrangement with a few modifications to suit a pianola style. See B & W Rag link on my wesite I have a Gulbransen manual pianola myself and your website has inspired me to try and upload some of our rolls too
Some people are just to hard to please im afraid , but many thanks for all the likes and views from yourself and others , i really appreciate that...Best regards Daniel :)
@PianolaDanOz If you look up the MASTERTOUCH Alphabetical Roll Title Catalogue, you'll see that S4649 is indeed: "BLACK & WHITE RAG (Winifred Atwell Arrangement)". Len Luscombe had owned BROADWAY Rolls (made in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia) and recorded Winifred Atwell's version on Broadway Music Roll 8133 (which credits "Win. Atwell" as the artist, not Len Luscombe), before BROADWAY was bought out by MASTERTOUCH in 1957. What brought me here was my MASTERTOUCH Roll A.D. 4649 (rather than S 4649). It's like listening to Winifred Atwell playing on my own piano, right there, right now! Thanks for posting, even though speakers don't do justice to live piano playing in our own lounge rooms (at whatever speed we choose). Cheers.
Nearly there footballfans 1000 but not quite. An older example to a modern computer and its programme, was invented in 1834. A Frenchman called Jacquard invented an automatic spinning loom which used punched card on which to store the instructions for the machine.
My Piano looks just like the one in the Video. Mine is a 1927 Aeolian with the Duo-Art system, except mine is only pumps, I don't have a motor. But I am having problems with the paper being aligned with the tracker. The paper won't always travel over the holes, and sometimes it will actually change key. Then when I re-roll the Rolls, the start rolling to one side then start to rip the edges of the Rolls, I am not sure what to do. Thanks!
Yes basically it is digital. The paper roll´s holes represent 1 and 0 for 1 being a note played and 0 (no hole) non playing note. The valves are basically the transistors and amplify the binary code´s weak signals coming from the tracker bar and transform them into stronger output signals to move the hammers. There are different valves in the system, representing NPN and PNP transistors in electronics term.
Yes, it would. Remember that the early IBM machines operated on punch cards this uses rolls with punches. The holes in the paper are for notes to be played by the piano or the pipes and xylophone. In other instruments there are drums and other effects including lots of pipe ranks for melody, harmony and bass. Yes, it is a pneumatically operated computer - with an audible output.
@@organbuilder272 Actually, it is technically not a computer. A computer is capable of carrying out arithmetic and numeric operations, this does not. However, the notes are presented as 'binary' to the piano. Since they are either on or off, and no sense of loudness is stored, it is binary. A player piano is better represented as a scaled up music box.
@@davidk8893 Well there are actually player pianos with a loudness control. They have an extra set of holes in the tracker bar for several loudness levels and need special rolls to make use of the system. I think Aeolian made them. A normal player piano will at least have an actuation of the sustain pedal through a similar system to express at least some dynamic changes.
Is there ANY possibile way that I could here this song in 2x speed! I REALLY want to hear what it would sound like. If it's possible, could someone PLEASE tell me how I could here it in 2x speed lol???!!!
@@IceBro It's weird, same camera for a long time, and then the quality goes up like crazy for one video. Compare this SD to the previous camera where the mic sounded gritty and nasty.
Yes this sounds exactly like Winifred Atwell version recorded in the early 1950's. I am confused as to which came first? Did Winnifred play from the original sheet music or did she study from this roll or is this a later release of a much older song using Winifred's version in an updated roll?
Depending where you live , lots of players are listed for free to take . Ive noticed your got more chance of getting an electric player in the USA , most need rebuilding but a few popping up that are actually quite decent.
many piano rolls were 4-handed. Some pianists even played all 4 hands and used a pseudonym on the roll label! So he played it thru once, then played over his original! Fascinating stuff to research!
Absolutely love it. One of my favourites. I remember my mother and grandmother playing it
Thanks for listening
I can't get enough of these player piano videos.
That was unforgettable! Wow! Increadible to watch and hear on a real piano. Wonderful.
😮😮😱 Such technology decades ago
I really like the "twinkly" treble hammers and since the majority of the notes are on the treble, it really makes it sound AMAZING! Beautiful pianola!
I just cannot get enough of this. I half been listening to this for over a year and I still can't believe how totally awesome this is. Great video.

DuoArtDanOz No problem dude! I can listen to this 24/7 if I could! Nice piano roll too!
DuoArtDanOz this is so cool i never saw one of those pianos that plays itself cool vid
I have the exact same roll but my pianola doesnt work, cant wait to get it fixed and listen to this.
You are in the same spot as me! I love the sound of this rag and the piano!
I can't get tired of hearing this one
Neither can I!

Superb very fresh sound, and what dynamisne for this instrument !

It's really clever how they knew where to put the holes in the paper so that the piano can play the tune you want it to play.
They probably had one set up as a recorder, that punched holes while someone played.
This HAS to be Winne Atwell's version. I can't tell it from hers at all. Great roll!
That's what I was thinking.
fantastic!
Whow this is really beautiful.
Greetings Peter.
Love this ❤

I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure famous artists made pianola recordings and this certainly sounds like Winnie.
im just laughing looking at the pumping things
Really? I was CRACKING UP WHEN I SAW THE BELLOWS!!!!!

A very good question , im sure someone here will let us know :)
Ragtime is a lot of fun - on the classical side, try Louis Moreau Gottschalks Grande Tarantelle

@mechanicmusic45 Yes i do believe its Winnie's version as its identical to her music tape i have here.
wouldn't this piano technically be a basic computer?

Does anybody know anything about Aeolian player pianos with the Duo-Art mechs in them?

Press the gear in the video box and then speed
Listen on WMP , options are there to change speed...
Thankyou :)
Would be difficult for me to play - the pace is maddening - good play tho.
Why is the audio and video so good here and on all the other videos it isn't?
Idk 'bout the video quality, it's only 480p but the sound definitely is. Probably due to a better microphone.
@@IceBro It's weird, same camera for a long time, and then the quality goes up like crazy for one video. Compare this SD to the previous camera where the mic sounded gritty and nasty.
it could be a new roll
My school band did an arrangement of this -_-
why are you pissed?
+saysay Because with maybe 20 or so people trying to play this at once, it probably didn't sound that great.
School Bands are usually not very good

It says in the description.
it doesn't actually

Looking at the right hand notes it look too wide a span for a human hand to play.

who dislike this???
I have a list of the possible dislikers:
-Despacito (DespaSHITo) DickHeads
-Gucci Gang Goons
-Jacob Sartorius Jackasses
-Justin Bieber Jackasses
The people who dislike this can have the faceboard smack them in the head! Maybe then they'll realize how powerful a piano can be!
Awsome!
How can it not be!!!!????
