Tommy Burton was my Uncle and I am always very proud to point that out to people whenever I get the chance. He could have performed on the world stage but chose not to. He was a legend and will always be a hard act to follow.
A highly underrated ragtime pianist, comedian, and raconteur in my view. He did alright in life, but deserved more. A nice bloke too, miss him. R.I.P. Tommy.
My Dad performed at Bude in several years when Tommy was there in the late eighties and early nineties and I remember watching and meeting him. A real talent and a charismatic performer and raconteur.
Just been told to search for Tommy on UA-cam. So glad I did, what a treat. Super comedian and a great pianist. This has to be the best version of the Black and White Rag I have heard since Winnie Atwell (who he pays tribute to here).
What a fantastic entertainer Tommy was. I asked him to play at my wedding in 1987 and he said he'd do it for £40 or keep me in beer.... I decided that £40 was the favourite ... I've got lots of similar on a VHS camcorder but not sure how to upload to here so thanks Hollyjazz for posting dear Tommy ... Syd
Tommy Burton around 1957 ish played every week at Brierley Hill Town Hall for us young `uns to dance !!! Great days.. Anyone else remember those times ???
I reckon this version is better than Winnie. I saw Tommy many times - I live quite local to where he was. We hired him many times for our works Xmas parties. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺👍🏻 RIP Tom.
Wish someone would upload some of Tommys comedy songs. I remember "Get yourself a black bird", "Christopher Robin" and the one that ended with.... "In a fit of the Bravado I farted the Mikado, And burnt the paint right off the s**thouse door".
@tommyrockon would love to see those videos, I saw Tommy a few times, I agree with you "what a fantasitic entertainer" and £40 would be the cheapest option haha
@@TheSpikehere I used to see him get in and out of his car when he owned the Shrewsbury Arms. We lived opposite, I would have been 4 or 5. Always looked a star, Mum and Dad loved seeing him
I agree a great version - my favourite is by Ralph Sutton and a bit slower but this is played very well indeed and I agree rivals Atwell's which is almost too showy. Wish I had been at this gig.

Ted Lowe: "And for those of you watching in black and white, the pink is next to the brown" 😀

Written in 1908 by George Botsford (not 1905 by Scott Joplin as he says).
Who gives a shit.
blessings Tom, one of the best, fond memories, anyone got anything on the Eagle jazz band or Jim Shelley jazz band,

I like his piano playing in SLADE 1974 album...
R.I.P.
Did he say this was written by Scott Joplin? It was written by George Botsford. Fantastic playing though.
By the looks and the sound of it Tommy Burton will never have to buy his own beer, great old jokes, great performance, is he still kicking around?
You might want to consider changing your display picture.
Why ?
Why? Because my late father is in this video. And your celebration of Nazism is a fucking insult to his memory. That's why!
So no, the late great TB is no more. He was a great too. Happy Days.

Not a Scott Joplin rag.
Great piano player !! Poor camera man.
