I love all of these videos. You guys all seem to be having such a great time to great music. I first found the vids because I'm an avid video game music advocate, and I LOVE it when Tom reads those. I find his humility makes the situation all that much better. I'm sure he gets plenty of praise on here, but make sure he knows that he (and the rest of your ragtime group) are spreading a lot of good feelings all around with these videos. Thanks again!
This reminds me of my family gatherings. Not that we had more than one piano, but my(6) bothers played clarinet, violin, and ragtime was always in the air. How fun! Thanks.
@etermal07g Sounds like Bb, Bo, F7, F7 (then repeat those four), G7, G7, C7, C7, F7, F7, Bb. Bass notes are Bb, B, C, F, Bb, B, C, F, G, D, C, G, F, C, Bb. I don't have perfect pitch, but that makes the most sense. Of course an F7 chord as the quick bass notes go up F, G, A to repeat the vamp.
Brings back lots of childhood memories from when this tune was used as the theme for a BBC snooker programme on TV here in the U.K. called 'Pot Black' :)) Great playing by Tom here and thanks again for all the videos!
@tomisztor Well, it is a party and not rehearsed at all...! Two of the people in this video will be in Kecskemét in two weeks. Check it out if you're able to make it! Look up "Bohém Festival".
Does your whole family/neighbourhood only consist of musicians? i got a really large family (about 40 people) and iam the only one that can play an instrument. in my local area (about 1000) are only 10-20 able to play an instrument well. but it seems like your whole family consist of generations of musicians. i would like to have that too. @Keeper1st
He who? Tom Brier? I don't know, but it apparently was something that was on a piano roll, as his talent was discovered when at age 4 he began playing back tunes that the family's player piano had just played.
wow, this is very strange. When i first saw (listened to) this video i had no idea what all the bits and pieces by keeper,, "carl", and all the others rambling on in the background, were even saying. My english was too bad for that. that was almost a year ago, and now, boom, it just hit me like a thunderstroke. and i thought, "hey, this video is not complete without proper lyrics!" so i wrote this: My- my memory ran out, awa, four gigs in. "Walks it cold" I'm a waiter here with call, to change his *memoryyyy*, so he can record Yeah slow, and slow, but used to it. So progress liniar, so that's... Mmm, where 'round the mic - n-bad dada dad bap baa! haha, monty knows the black and white rag, but he plays it like Winifred Lightwell, because that's for most tries Ahh, we're good to go, good to go, thank youuuu Kangaroo hop? speaking of australia... you don't get it grandpa two sec, who's playing what pianoooo? Very nice video, but I heard someone saying in the Video that Winnifred Atwell is from Australia, which is incorrect. Winnifred Atwell was born in Trinidad and raised in England where she recorded most of her music, including her cover of 'Black & White Rag' in 1955 and later moved to Australia after she got married and eventually passed away in Australia. The Black & White Rag was not written or composed by Scott Joplin, it was composed by George Botsford and originally recorded in 1910, I have a special release ragtime album that features the original recording of this piece by George Botsford's own ragtime band :)
I liked the part from 0:00 to 3:29
Who didnt
I am perpetually amazed at how much fun all your ragtime vids are to watch.

i really wish my house had 3 pianos within 20 ft of each other
me too
Fabulous...if i had a tiny fraction of Tom's talent i'd be a very happy man.
It's a damn shame that a damn truck took all of that away...
@@thatrecord5313 far out i didnt know it was a truck!!

Purely inspirational. Thank you so much Tom and everyone involved in this marvellous wonderfulness!!

I think that song is so much fun and very jazzy
Thank you Keeper for filming all of these over the years

the entire house is so lively. I love it.
You have to do an arrangement of this! That is the best performance of this rag that I have heard in my life!
And here we are, eleven years later. Thanks youtube for let us gather once again
That is a cacophony of joy! So much fun to see and hear.

I hate it that he was so badly injured that he can no longer play. Selfish AF of me, but what a brilliant player!
The master at work....I don't think he ever hit a sour note in his life!!
What a party! Thanks for posting.
How awesome is this!! Winifred would be so proud!
Reminded me a little bit of Yoshi´s rag time piece, but damnnnn, Tom is in good shape like always hehe ^^
I really like this
Can Tom play":Black & White Rag" ....haha...I think Tom can play anything. He is probably the best. Thanks for sharing......
looks like a good time to me.
Fantastic.......
Great musicians congratulations for playing this type of music
Es uno de los mejires pianistas que he oudo. Se sabe todas las piezas y con que facilidad enlaza unas con otras. Es un genio

Well, the ragtime family is worldwide; we just happen to get together from time to time!

Loved the part when the tuba came in!
@Keeper1st THANKS SO MUCH XD
this looks like so much fun
@sabata2
It amplifies his power over the keys.
I like it very well
Good stuff 👍
What was the little ditty that was being played prior to Black and White Rag?
one of my favorite numbers!:) tnx
You're amazing
This, I think, was one of my dad's favorite.
I would love to be in his group of friends
Thanks alot :D
Tom I want you to play at my wedding! hell you can play at my funeral if you're still around too!
@Keeper1st Do u know chords he is using?
Hi, I would like to add a link to this incredible video in my children's book, who can I get authorization from??
I reccomend joining their discord and asking
I’m so curious, what is this book about and can I read it?
what is the name of the rag in the beginning?
"vamp 'til ready" ... It's not a rag or any piece in particular. He's just vamping.
Wow Tom really is something else.
0:47 OMG BLACK AND FROCK RAG
Cool🤗
Whats the name of the first song tom is playing?
I'm genuinely curious what that opening number was? Was it from a game show?
It was nothing; Tom is just vamping.
Why does Keeper1st sound like MatPat?
really nice party !!! :D:D:D
i for real thought that lady was about to slam a shisha hit when i realised it was a clarinet
What is the first song he played?
He who? Tom Brier? I don't know, but it apparently was something that was on a piano roll, as his talent was discovered when at age 4 he began playing back tunes that the family's player piano had just played.
In the Scott Joplin movie from 1977, they played it in between songs in the piano cutting contest
rip
Who? Everyone in this video is still living.

Apart from the piano playing by Tom this entire scene is a pure disaster 😂
What's the song from the beginning of the video?
Nothing -- just vamping.
Haha I was hearing muppets in there
I must say I enjoyed this very much, but don't you just want to get in there with the Dettol surface cleaner.
Is the pianist wearing a beard of bees?
Jsuper
Out of curiosity, what were the music sheets that were being distributed before this performance? They certainly weren't "Black and White Rag"...
+HighWideandHandsome It was "The Kangaroo Hop", being put in the queue basically. Here's when they played it: ua-cam.com/video/qsY5PiZWqVw/v-deo.html

I very well know, this is not what they're saying, but i think these lyrics sound more like what's being said.
Not far off. "We're waiting for Carl..." and "We're in the money" (because Tom's riff reminded me of that song). And it's Winifred Atwell.
@@Keeper1st Yeah, i read that in the comments fairly soon afterwards. Interesting background though.
What is Toms relation to the filmer/recorder?
Just friends through ragtime. We're about the same age; Tom is almost exactly a year younger than I am.
Thankyou. i am not sure how it went after the traffic accident. how is he doing?
I visited him last month and posted a video account of how it went. ua-cam.com/video/zlEyOdb9DzA/v-deo.html
ez egy marhajó szám, és nagyon jól is játsza, de amit a többiek művelnek alatta, az valami borzalom :)

No, I said Monty was from Australia, and that is why he plays the Atwell version.
ah ok, sorry about that and kinda makes sense :)
Winnifred Atwell's version of Black & White rag was recorded in London :)
