I've had a very special relationship with that song since at least the age of 16. Listening to it being performed in such an absurdly great way puts me in a state of mind that's hard to describe. I mean sure, Phish taught their fans to expect nothing short of perfection, but this is... wild!
This is PNC right? If you haven't been under the pavilion there, it's a giant space ship that can peel around like an throbbing orange and then melt and drip down around you. That shit can swallow you up in an instant or little by little as the night goes on, at least in my experiences there. The men's underground bathroom is an evil dungeon of despair which I did time in, in 2002 at a P&F show, puking my brains out. I love being on the Page side rage side. Anyone go to 6/28 and or 6/29/00?
Phish did a great cover. Some groups and artists nail it. Some make them better by making there own. Then unfortunately there are the ones suck and shouldn’t even attempt it! Again Phish nailed!
If you want to hear a Trey original with an equally intense, spooky vibe as "No Quarter", give a listen to "What's Done" off Trey's solo album, "Bar 17".
Close the door, put out the light No, they won't be home tonight The snow falls hard and don't you know? The winds of Thor are blowing cold They're wearing steel that's bright and true They carry news that must get through, oh They choose the path where no-one goes They hold no quarter They hold no quarter, oh Walking side-by-side with death The devil mocks their every step, ooh The snow drives back the foot that's slow The dogs of doom are howling more They carry news that must get through To build a dream for me and you, oh, oh, oh They choose the path where no one goes They hold no quarter They ask no quarter They hold no quarter They ask no quarter Yeah Without quarter, quarter, yeah (without quarter) Without quarter, quarter, quarter Taking no quarter Oh, oh, oh (hear the dogs of doom) (no, never quarter) I hear the dogs of doom are howling more
if you really watch the video troy pistachio wasn't happy that the chaisman ran into no quarter like a bat out of hell. he looks at him several times and plays with the pedals through the first 1/2 of the song.
Wow - you have quite an imagination to invent all of that conflict that did not occur. If you know anything about Phish, Trey places great importance on listening to and watching his bandmates. Second, Trey did not have anything to do in the intro of that song but to watch Page sing and get his pedals ready for when it was is turn to come in. Third, if there was a problem with the tempo of the song, it is Fishman's job to control tempo once the drums kick in - if there was a problem, he would have slowed it down.
Soft sense.. like a child playing game ... not the same feeling NQ should be ... as haunting mysterious cold night long journey ... must be DEEP ... deeper / despite their men on the stage .. still far from those only 1(JPJ intro)..or 2 or 3 jam(while Plant off) LZ's calibre ... bye !
Respectable....but then again there is no band that could cover this song and even approach Zepplin's performance. Even among their own catalogue this one stands apart. Sorry Trey.
I have to agree. This song is so reliant on groove. If you're 3-4 bpm off, it throws the whole vibe out. The pocket comes back towards the middle of the song and it gets better, but it doesn't have that spooky/sexy vibe it has to have to work. Not terrible, but not good. Sometimes bands have off nights.
Derek Hicks so it might have taken fishman a few minutes to sink into the groove... I’m sure if i played no quarter in front of 20,000 people my heart would be pounding like a bass drum. Easier said from the couch
Jay it's why we use click tracks in our ear peices. It sets the tempo and calms the nerves when you're playing in front of that many people. To each their own, I just really like having the rhythm section in the pocket. Not everyone comments from the couch either brother, I don't know you, and you don't know where I've been, so no need to take a jab. All in good fun!
Trey is good, Jerry was better and Jimmy is in a league of his own. Sloppy during the morphine days, sure. Subjective, but I'd take a sloppy, off the rails Page still over anyone, anyday. He changed everything.
@@codybarker1471 Jimmy may have had some great creations and big hits, but he's far from a "league of his own". I'm a LZ, Dead, and Phish fan. Trey does what they both did and more. His style and creativity is so much different than everyone else, most people just can't dig it
They are butchering a truly magnificent song. Guitar and vocals are a failure, the rest are just not up to par. And yes the temp is too fast, but that's not the main problem.
+stuart houselander Awww that's so cute! You actually think someone cares about your opinion! Obviously your musical taste is FAR too advanced for those of us here. You go now! Save the world!!
+Mike Gee I wouldn't say so. I mean I never personally saw them live and my dad who did see them live several times agrees with you lol but from what I've heard I think they changed the game and really kicked off the whole idea of jamming out your songs and had a great stage presence. If you don't like hearing different renditions of studio versions I guess I can see where you're coming from but then again you're also commenting on a Phish video hahaha.
+Brandon Dester umm I replying to a guy who is saying Phish's version sucks. I am just letting him know they're isn't anyone worse than Zeppelin live and I'm a zeppelin fan. I've seen zepp live and heard numerous bootlegs, they were horrid
Phish is one of the greatest bands to ever grace a stage
Amen to that✌🏻
Was there and this was SICK. Full blown freak out from me and friends.
The best thing I’ve heard Phish do. Nice job.
Love the lighting and this solid version. A great number that Led Zeppelin will never play again. Hat's off to Phish! Nice work. Thanks for posting.
They played this on Saturday night in Atlantic City, I was completely blown away! Killer cover by Trey and the boys!
that was my bday present (even considering we got the BDTNL encore)
It's pretty good, but not at the level of Led Zeppelin.
Bought the AC CD and listening to it now almost one year to the day🤘🏻
My hometown shows. Was so stoked
Expected a bunch more hate because: Phish. Glad to see everyone can enjoy a great performance for what it is!
Unique stage alignment. Drums on far right, keys on far left, with the guitars in center stage. I wonder why more don't use this setup.
You need a really wide stage for this to look good I guess.

Great version of No Quarter... Phish nails it.
WOW great RESPECT from Phish
If only I saw Phish 10 years sooner than now. Please for fucks sake don’t retire lol
U still got some time. They played really well this summer. As I see this comment is 7 months old. They're amazing
They're fucking killing it currently, laying claim to the best band of all time argument imho.
Was at this show...jaw dropping performance.
same.
I was there... This surprise was a heluva treat. Hit Mountin Jam right after this show for another 4 days of good times
Me too! And mtn jam right after
Have a grateful phucknd day
Thank you. Same
Never seen this before... awesome
You know I love you ♡
Phish plays amazing eith covers and in general

amazing
I'm a little biased but they are pretty excellent.
Wicked cover, last show I went to was in 2013 I think, in Alpharetta ga, trey kept teasing heartbreaker then they went into it and it was grand🤙🏼

Many they play the Song Remains theSame at MSG!
Amazing. Phish has serious Zeppelin Presence! No body's fault but...Phish's :)

sick

it was a joke homie
The only joke here is your attempt at backpedaling
yea because i give two fucks what you think stranger in the internet.
Bravo!
I don't think Mike Gee ever saw Zeppelin live. Especially
talking about bootleg albums.
Never heard this before. Only thing missing (to me) is Plant’s vocals….it’s just hard to hear a different voice on this track….
Have you ever heard of leonardo?
Killer
Lots
awesome
very good version !
Nice. I dig.
AWESOME !
Holy shit th

Always and Forever since '95 Shiiiiit!!!

Ein!!! 😂
Legendary
Not quite jpj but nice intro
I can't play it

Phish does a good cover of the studio version of No Quarter.

The vibrato on the vocals is cutting it for me

Sounds like only half the Phish did it's homework.
Not bad
Wish they covered the Tool cover of this track tbh lol
😂
I can sing this I'm not I can't
Why can't you just tell the truth bunnie
Phish fans were the worst; constant yelling, screaming and whistling.
Dicky wihell looneytick

Oh shit it is. Well I've clearly wasted everyone's time here. Good day to you all. You'll never hear from me again.
Man, you could have picked a better version than this one, they've done this song brilliantly before, this is one of the worst ones.
Whats your fav in your opinion?
@@nick20401 9/1/2012 from Commerce City Colorado is Mr personal favorite
@@nick20401 12/29/18 is really good too
This was posted when this was the only time they played the song back in 2011. There were no other recordings of them doing it then.
Respectable....but then again there is no band that could cover this song and even approach Zepplin's performance. Even among their own catalogue this one stands apart. Sorry Trey.
Tool > Phish
Stole
Tempo too quick. Tuning too high. Bad sloppy, not good sloppy. Self indulgent, not song-serving. And yes, I like Phish.
sprawl nod you can keep her
I have to agree. This song is so reliant on groove. If you're 3-4 bpm off, it throws the whole vibe out. I love Phish but if you want to see it the best cover of No Quarter, seek out Tool's cover. Any of them. Ill take the Pepsi challenge on it.

Nope. This lead guitar player doesn't even come close to Page's great guitar playing abilities at all. This is standard boring crap. YAWN!
Not as good as Jimmy Page? No way?
Jimmy Page was sloppy as fuck and a complete rip off.
@@tomservo1971 I think that sloppy sound suited him well.

do better and post a video bitch
Hippy jam bands suck haha..and Tool's version absolutely annihilates this without question
