  • G’day everyone.!
I hope 2024 has gotten off to a great start for you…I wish you all the best for the remainder of the year!
I have a new Camera to use this year (2024) being the Sony a7IV and the Sony 85 mm f /1.8 lens, I also have the Sony Zeiss 35 mm f/ 2.8 lens. I’ve actually owned the Zeiss Sony 35 mm lens for at least 10 years, as I used to own the Sony a7R, when it was first released back in the day and that was my favourite street photography combo, the a7R and the 35 mm
    f/2 .8 Zeiss lens.
I purchased the Sony A7IV in 2023 primarily to be used to create my hobby videos and for my hobby portrait photography.
I was excited to take the Sony kit into the Melbourne CBD and do some street photography and capturing street portraits , as soon as I arrived in the city of Melbourne , I spotted another Street Photographer sporting a Canon R5 camera coupled to a huge, 135 mm “ red ringed” Canon lens.
I introduced myself and we. got on like a house on fire. His name is Da Ping Chen , an awesome guy and also a very competent Photographer. How do I know that? I seen his photography work firsthand and it’s great. His pictures make my pictures look mediocre! 😗
I offered Da Ping Chen the opportunity to take a few shots using my pair of flashQ-Q20II speed lights. He was excited to do that and captured some great shots with flash and his Canon camera gear.
I invited Da Ping Chen to accompany me to Chinatown, which he agreed, my intention was to do some Street Photography in Chinatown, using flash and allowing Da Ping Chen the opportunity to try out the flashes doing street photography with flash too.
We ran out of time after capturing only a few shots in Chinatown…all in all though, we still had a lot of fun!
Check out Ping Chen’s instagram account.

Looking forward to seeing you in the next video. 😎
    Thanks for watching!
    Peace ✌️

So cool how you two connected and how he participated in your flash experiment without even understanding English. Interests really bring people together.

Awesome video JD and Ping Chen. That wee flash is a belter I don't use mine much, then today dug it out couldn't for the life of me get it to fire, the batteries seemed ok, but I changed them just in case....bugger me it fired every time from then on. Love that translation app hope it does Yorkshire to English that'd come in handy. Have a cracker '24 mate

Hey Paul, thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - greatly appreciated mate… Ha ha “Ping Chen’s translation app” is a real beauty alright, it’s a pretty cool app indeed, though translating Yorkshire english to English lol😂it may struggle with that!
As for the little flash coupled to a GoPro magnetic bracket, like I do, I think if you were to try my process with off camera flash and that GoPro bracket you’ll shoot in a completely different way Paul, you’ll have a different perspective, and be mind boggled with all the new flash opportunities available to you. Especially after you see your picture results for sure I thinks you’d fall in love with the technique too. 👍. It’s lightweight kit and using it with your awesome Leica Q2 with that leaf shutter - wow! I can only imagine what you’d produce with your awesome skill set. I can see you flashing your way around New Zealand.! 🧥📸😂😉😎🍻
      PS
      Regarding your chimney, shoot, Video.
All those beautiful pictures of that one inanimate object the chimney…mate those shots are real stunners. I cannot believe you were able to create so many keepers from that one location. Brilliant work Paul. I enjoyed your video.

haha yeah Yorkshire is a whole other language. Yeah that gopro / flash set up is awesome, definitely give that a shot cheers, and re the chimney thanks for the kind words, I love an old building, and shooting different angles and lighting conditions just shows whats possible on anything. I shot some concrete blocks the other evening, man I love the results. Pings a game lad aye loves his photography . @@jdstrobist
