Good thing that person is an art teacher and not a science teacher.
The sun is not the largest star, it's just the closest so it appears to be the largest and brightest star from our perspective.
That said I'd think even an art teacher should understand how objects can appear larger or smaller based on distance since that's a fairly common art project that every art teacher I've ever had has gotten me to do. I don't know why I had to learn that three different times from three different teachers when it's a fairly basic thing I learned in kindergarten but once she retired the new art teacher did the same assignment when I was in in like fifth grade and then another teacher did it again when I was a freshman in High School.

      (Vent)
Some art teachers think they are right about anything for having a degree in one of the most subjetives things you can learn. Sure they are rules about perspective, shape and how to add lights and shadows but there's plenty of artist and idiots who get popular and they don't need anything of that to succed

I go to college in Kentucky and I took Astronomy 135 this semester at my college and one of the questions in my lab class was "if it's 10am in Kentucky, what time is it in Anchorage, Alaska?" answered 6am, because the Alaska timezone is 4 hours behind the East Coast timezone. My lab professor marks me wrong, saying that timezones are every 15° longitude and that Anchorage is 5 hours behind. I explain that Alaska merged into one timezone in 1983 after years of the state being split into 2 seperate timezones made it a major pain for everyone trying to communicate with anyone inside or outside of the state. He insisted that I was still wrong and that to this day Anchorage is 5 hours behind the east coast.
I was born in Anchorage and lived there for 20 years before being accepted and attending this college. I know this isn't technically a profession, but I'd like to assume I'm an expert at knowing what time it is in my home state and town.

We asked him what he was doing and he chuckled “You're pronouncing it weird“.
My friend who quizzed me was Russian (born and raised) and she knew full well everything I said was fine, no strange accent or anything, and she would have corrected me if I said it wrong.

I was diagnosed with JRA (Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis) when I was 18 months old and struggled with it my entire life. I've encountered many people who tell me I'm mistaken and arthritis is something only old people get. For those who don't know, JRA is an autoimmune disease, so it basically goes
Immune system freaks out, thinking body is sick > attacks anything it sees as a threat, which is joint tissue in this case > build up of fluid and scar tissue in joints. Another fantastic symptom was getting absolutely fucked by simple illness. Mom actually figured out something was very wrong when I ran a fever of 106° because of a simple ear infection... when I was 18 months old. So that was fun.
Anyway, I have had a lot of people say arthritis is just a thing for old people, and/or i was overreacting to being sick for attention. To which I would usually respond with "oh yeah, definitely faking the disease that requires I drink a chemo drug/get a shot in my ass once a week." (Took liquid methotrexate till about 2nd grade, got prescribed Enbrel injections around same time but also took methotrexate in pill form till.... 10th grade, I think?)
It was really annoying and hurtful bc I wasn't faking shit and growing up that way was hell. Thankfully, 23 years later, I am off my medication, and have been declared in TOTAL remission! My rheumatologist said she had only ever heard of it happening, but it was ridiculously rare and she'd never seen it happen before. I fukin beat that shit into the dirt HELL FUCKIN YEAAAAHHH!!!!!

I have an engineering degree in solar renewable energy. When I was doing my apprenticeship the installer I was learning from did a battery bank over a hundred meters from the house it was suppose to supply.
I found it weird because all my teachers and text books said the system had to be relatively close or the amperage could fry the inverter. I told them so and they called me an idiot.
I felt like a fool and installed the system with them, thinking my knowledge didn't work in the field. Lo' and behold a week later the inverter is fried and the client is pissed. We replaced the damn inverter two more times before they called an experienced engineer buddy.
I laughed right at their face when he told me we had to reinstall the battery bank and panels closer to the house.

    2) What do you mean I need a hearing? My employer stated he wasn't contesting my unemployment! "You quit the job, anyone who quits needs a hearing." I need money! ... me internally: THEN YOU SHOULDN'T HAVE QUIT YOUR FUCKING JOB.
    3) I paid for it. "No, your employer did." But I pay taxes! "Yes, and so do I, but you didn't pay for unemployment in this state." Then why do I pay so much in taxes? ... me internally I DON'T FUCKING KNOW, I AM NOT A TAX EXPERT.
    4) Why was my payment held? "You stated you didn't work last week after working the last three months part time. Why was that?" Why does that matter? "Because you stopped working, did you quit, were you fired? What happened?" I don't think you have a right to ask me that. ... me internally Yes, I fucking do ... it's my job, you can refuse to answer however and not get your unemployment.

The lighting protection one is kinda funny because lighting protection code in the US is basically just industry bro-science and almost none of it is based on actual research. People who actually research lightning know that a lot of it is just complete bullshit that companies get lobbied in to sell products that won't actually work. The problem is lightning research is hard and not that well funded so there isn't enough evidence/resources to get the code fixed. (I'm getting my PhD in physics researching lighting.)
As a related story, my research group has some big underground Faraday cages we use when doing rocket triggered lightning. They sit right next to the rocket pad so you can be close enough to control the rocket but still be safe from the lighting. At some point someone came up and threw a huge fuss that our grounding was not up to code. After making it fit the code the grad student inside reported giant multi-inch arcs of electricity in the corners, between the door and walls, etc. during the next storm. That's obviously extremely dangerous, so we put things back the way we had them and haven't had any issues since.

Finally I just gave him the references of the 1rst eugenics laws from the 1910's and show him the Japanese age structure (you can clearly see the effect of a baby boom or a war on the age structure; Japan had a very short but very existing baby boom just after the war) a'd he finally admit I was right but boy that was a ride

my biggest annoyance is having worked at a FROYO store and customers would come up and ask me after staring at the flavor signs if we had gluten free flavors. It's frozen yogurt. Gluten is a WHEAT protein. Like obviously the cookies and cream would have gluten, since you know cookies are typically made from flour, but the mango sorbet? To top it off all the flavor signs said what allergens were in them anyway but apparently people are too dumb to read.
Honestly the only reason you would eat gluten free is if you actually were allergic to it. Gluten itself does nothing to affect your health (unless, again, if you're allergic to it), but people seem to be convinced that its a bad thing that should be avoided.

When my roommate tried telling me that letting his cat chew on his marijuana plants was fine and “just because you went to school for a couple months doesn’t mean you know anything.”
I have my associates and was in animal care science. Marijuana is absolutely on the list of plants/foods most domestic animals cannot ingest because it’s potentially toxic to them.
All I told him was to be careful because it might not agree with him. Never once was I trying to scold or correct him. Was just looking out for the cat. It turned into a huge text war back and forth of him putting me down and trying to give me a lesson on the stage that the plant was in and how it “would hardly do anything because it’s in XYZ stage of growth, etc.”
Buddy. A veterinarian isn’t going to give a fuck about what stage your pot plants are in. They’ll take precautions regardless. It’s written off as toxic to cats. End of story... lmfao

He tried to argue about stuff in comic books. Superman (generally considered the first comic book superhero) first appeared in 1938. He tried to argue it was several years later, and that Batman came first. This argument occurred before smartphones, and we didn't have a computer around. Here's how that conversation went:
J: Batman's really the first superhero--he came before all the others.
Me: Superman first appeared in 1938, a year before Batman.
J: No way man, it was years later! Batman appeated first in 1939!
Me: No...Superman appeared first in 1938. I know this because his 50th anniversary was in 1988.
    J: Oh, I don't think so.
Me: He had a TV special that aired in 1988. I watched it as a kid...I have it taped on VHS at home.
    J: Well, that's...
Me: It was called "Superman's *50TH* Anniversary Special." 1988 minus 50 is 1938.
    J: But...
    Me: It was on CBS.
    J: I don't think...

Electronic music producer here. I make hybrid cinematic/experimental/dubstep music. Here are some of the things I get a lot, in order from least to most annoying:
"So basically you're a DJ?" (DJs mix and transition playlists, they don't actually create songs)
"How do you have the time for that?" from people who have attempted electronic music, and "Why don't you release music more often?" (They sort of answer each other. I don't release music often because of academics taking up free time, and I do still have time because I love making music and spend all of my free time making it).
"Making electronic music is effortless!" (It's actually harder than using solely acoustic instruments - Not only must I make and perform all the melodies, I also have to make most of the sounds).
"You're not a real musician" (I've played classical piano for nine years and trumpet for three. I arrange my music using a weighted 88 key keyboard. If that doesn't make me a musician, what does?).
"It's just noise, though!" (This one is the worst, and also unfortunately the most commen. With experimental sound design, it can take hours just to get a few sounds made, and they'ree usually meticulously constructed to sound exactly the way the do. And even for the happy accidents, how many people know how to modulate grain density with an LFO attenuated by a cycling envelope, or how to get the frequency modulation at just the right ratio and proportion to make it sound like a violin, and not just white noise?).

Got similar story for the deli guy
I worked in a deli for my first job, About 2 years. maybe 1 year in, I meet a mother and daughter. They were the worst customers I've ever had, they make up about 3/4 of the crazy stories I tell about the deli, but the first time I ever met them, the mother asked for "Fat Free Cheese." Cheese is mainly fat, so obviously I assume she's not a total lunatic and think she means "Low Fat Cheese" bring her the lowest fat cheese we have, she asks to see the label. I show her, and she says angrily, "This still has fat in it!! I asked for fat FREE cheese!." I told her that that isn't exactly possible, and that even if we had it we wouldn't have it in the deli section, but in the dairy section down the hall. She fuckin' LOSES IT. Goes on how I don't know what I'm talking about, how I just don't want to give her her cheese, etc. She demands the manager, I bring him, he says something that politely translates to "Lady that's crazy who would even make that, and even If we had it it would be in the dairy section down the hall" The satisfaction from that last part made it all worth it.
Edit: spelling, some phrasing/better wording, and I called fat “sodium” for some fucking reason.

P.S. the name isn't a misnomer at all. Diabetes comes from the Greek for syphon or pour/push through, referring to excessive urination. Mellitus refers to honey, or sweet. Insipidus refers to dilute. As diabetes insipidus is a disease that leads to excessive urination, without spillover of glucose, so you produce excessive amounts of very dilute, non-sweet urine, it's a perfectly accurate name.

boy and girl pertain to male and female. gender is what you have only if you reproduce sexually. male and female are the two gender expression that humans have. gender expressions refer to what role in sexual reproduction the individual in question will play. the different reproductive roles and genitalia are evolved over millions of years before humans existed in their present form. many species of the kindoms mamalia, prototista, fungi, and plantae share common basic reproductive systems, despite variations in genital appearance and macro/micro biological functions. some species reproduce asexually from the four listed above kingdoms and kingdom archaea and bacteria reproduce by binary celluar fission. isnt that cool! since humans that are hermaphrodites are generally born sterile, and there are no asexual humams, you will only reproduce with sexual reproduction, and can deduce your actual biological gender simply by looking between your legs! no confusion! its the only answer your simple enough to be confused by gender for popularity and virtue points mind needs! if you are blind, there are other senses. what an amzing thing the human body as it is naturally is. why do people get bored with it and need to play silly games even though science has answered the question irrefutably? power and control. rest assured, there will always be 52% of any population who will know the truth of right and wrong for you, and will gladly show up to put any confusion about already known fact to bed for ya! take care sweetie!

I'm a sound technician. I have had so many actors tell me I need to turn up their mics, and I always tell them they need to be louder, cause if I could fix the volume problem, as the person whose sole job it is to control the volume of things, I already would have. (I do appreciate when actors come up with legitimate concerns, like if I'm not necessarily getting enough of the low end of the vocals in a song and it throws it off.)
Then there's the opposite where there are actors who can project fine without a mic, but practically mumble when they have one cause they think it will make them louder. In theatre, microphones aren't there for the actors' convenience as much as they are for the audience's convenience.

I'm a young physician (comparable to a GP in training) with a focus on lifestyle and nutrition medicine for many years. Fascinating field, eat whole grains, legumes and any veg in any amount, by the way.
I was at a video shoot where we prepare online courses for people to implement subtle changes into their diets without sacrificing flavour (#1 priority l, let's be honest). Our camera guy didn't feel well last shoot, and that day he returned with a diagnosis of Type 2 Diabetes. We worked out a plan together, overhauling his lifestyle week by week, and already at the next shoot (~6 weeks later), his blood glucose was NORMAL. As in, he was totally fine. It felt so awesome to have a patient who actually wants to change whatever is damaging him and implementing my advice. His change in weight and cholesterol was incredible, too, he looked really great.
Anyways, about 10 minutes before we all finished awe-ing him for his achievements, a guest chef came along, young woman, tattooed with arm, ear and noserings and henna. She was an ayurveda 'expert' (she finished 2 private courses on the subject, not the good kind of ayurveda either, but the batshit crazy kind) and tried to explain to me how gluten is the worst thing ever, people need foods with feminine energy in them, a Big Mac is far healthier if you eat it while sitting in nature and MDs have no clue about the body. Quite rude too. I knew i had to be in the same room as her for another 6 hours, so I plainly asked which studies I can read up on to see those results she's talking about, since I've never heard of them. She replied 'Studies? Those aren't important, docs only care about that bullshit, ayurveda has data for over 5.000 years.'
Everyone was in shock. Not a single person in the room thought she was right in the head, but knew they were in the same room for another 6 hours. When she left, they all congratulated me on staying calm.
The actually bad thing was how incredibly rude and self absorbed she was, never accepting the possibility that she might not be 100% correct.
Good god, I was boiling. I knew I could destroy her in maybe 3 sentences, but there was no benefit in that. Nobody listened to her anyways.

I had full access and knowledge of every single ingredient and its proportion within our finished products. The FDA has extremely strict rules against fraudulent and misleading statements, which is why jobs like mine even existed, allowing everyone to have at least some semblance of knowledge of what is in our food.
Anyways, I got into this weeklong argument with Marketing over whether we could label a certain chocolate cake "Chocolate Mousse Cake," when it contained zero chocolate mousse. The team refused to let it go, asking dumb things like, "How about just 'Mousse cake?'" or "Can we just put, 'With real chocolate mousse' at the bottom?" My answer every time: "NO. YOU CAN'T. THERE IS NO MOUSSE IN IT." This was all over email, so I had to be very careful what I said, but the passive-aggressiveness was gonna explode pretty soon until R&D thankfully entered the conversation and told Marketing off for apparently making promises to customers without doing their freaking research on their own products.

      Jacob Wiren
      Engineering student here:
that is incorrect, the reason rockets launch at the equator is because of the earth's rotation, which can be added to the lateral velocity of a spaceship when trying to achieve orbit. Some rockets are launched from mountain complexes because of the lower gravity which lowers the gravity toll to upwards velocity, but the equator is mostly used because of the increase in lateral velocity due to earth's rotation
