I remember watching this in theaters. And even tho everyone in the movie knew what was gonna happen I remember the theater exploding anytime Texas western scored. And once that final buzzer went off. It was like we were all there.
not gonna lie...they wrote don haskins as the best coach I have ever seen in a sports movie...he is real and josh lucas gave a huge performance...I feel his passion and I get motivated by every word he says also hes likeble and funny and humble which most coaches are not
Kudos for the Texas Western coach for sending a message by playing only the Black players. Things like that changes dynamic across the board about many things.
Coach Haskins Got so Much Hate Mail and this was in the 60's when people would actually write Letters he Got Bags and bags of Hate Mail and he kept it from his players so they never knew about it, he would say sometimes that he wished they had lost the game, this game wasn't really important until years Later. I'm from El Paso So I've heard about this game my whole Life, I was a year and a half, my Mom told me that my Dad was jumping up and down in the Living room and when the game was over he ran out side to his car and started honking his car horn, Mom said it was like everybody in El Paso were Honking their Horns.
Hell no. They had wayyyyyy more talent than Kentucky. Don H. was ahead if the game, and recruited studs. The greatest College B Ball upset WOULD have been Butler over Duke, if Heyward was two inches over on that final half court shot. The greatest upset is either: Nova over Georgetown Or NC State over Houston. It sucks..... So bad..... That the tourney is canceled this year, because I really believe Dayton could have/and would have won it.
@@b.g.3073 I would agree....in title games, the two biggest upsets are the ones you cited. I am more inclined to put Nova over Georgetown as a slightly bigger upset.
I just need a copy of this movie, I love the part the most when Haskins tells them to just go out and play it how they know how, most of them street ball players, and just turns them loose like that, damn I love this story
I like how haskins collapses at the end...yeah they won but by starting 5 black players he had put a lot of pressure on himself to win or else he would probably get fired and lynched lol I feel like that's what the movie is trying to show how he felt the weight off his shoulders
