Tee You are special because you come from your mom and dad. Your Dad took part in changing a lot. God bless him in heaven. Know and have faith that he is looking down on you and keeping you safe.
It's been 55 years since that Texas Western team won the NCAA title using five black players against an all-white Kentucky squad. That team would forever change the game of basketball.
I was old enough and lucky enough to watch that game. Being from NY that was big to us since a number of the players were from NY. I started watching the NCAA's the year before with Gail Goodrich scoring 42 points. We were all rooting for Texas Western.
Wow! Came here after watching Glory Road (for the 10th time)… Man I hope the speaker actually pursued public speaking…he can speak! He covered everything.
🏆 THAT MOVIE BASED ON THAT TEAM TRUE STORY CONTINUES TO GIVE PEOPLE A STRONG SPIRIT OF ADMIRATION 🤫 QUIET AS KEPT . THE GLORY ROAD IS UNFORGETTABLE 🤔 I BELIEVE SO .
I was just a snot-nosed high schooler who watched this game in its entirety. I was pulling for Texas Western all the way (the Underdogs). The movie Glory Road did the team justice, and my visits to El Paso always makes me look at the UTEP campus and feel the pride and wonder what happened to UCLA that year?
I also watched that game. It was a down year for UCLA. The year before Goodrich scored 42 and they won. UCLA was not the juggernaut until 1967. The won in '64 with walt Hazard and that was a big upset.
So many will never know just how difficult it was for black players to break through the racial barriers put in front of them during this time. But, just as always, they made it through and there's nothing to stop them now. It's just a crime that they had to suffer so much because of the way they look.
RIP Don Haskins Bobby Joe Hill & Harry Flournoy. We miss you dearly.

These guys deserve a much bigger applause because they helped accelerate desegregation in colleges.
