My father was a camera man for ABC for 11 years. He left after marrying my mother and still did many hockey games. He was one, if not the only one, who received an Emmy Award for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. He still remembers operating the camera when USA won and said that when the clock hit zero, the crowd became so loud that the noise drowned everything as if no one was there and it became silent. He said it was the greatest sporting event of all time and nothing would or could ever come close to it due to the fact that college kids beat an unbeatable Russian team who played together for many years.

Al Michaels re-recorded all of his dialogue from the broadcast except for this quote, rightly claiming that he could never re-create the emotion and excitement from the original moment. You can even hear in the movie where it transitions to the original recording.

My favorite line in this movie is when Coach Brooks tells the team that "THE NAME ON THE FRONT OF THE JERSEY IS A HELL OF ALOT MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE ONE ON THE BACK"
You all should watch the extras on the DVD, where they interviewed the real Herb Brooks in a conference room at a nearby Hotel back then. It was very interesting to hear his take on all.
If you watch the actual footage of the final minute of the Miracle on Ice, you'll see a very quick shot of Herb Brooks quickly leaving the stadium while everyone congratulates him. It's because he was sprinting back to the locker room to be by himself and cry. I can't imagine what he was feeling at that moment. Incredible.
There's a great book about this team called The Boys of Winter. If I'm remembering correctly the reason Herb left the bench was because he wanted the attention to be on the boys and not him.
I was watching this is a smaller but sold out crowded movie theater back then when this came out and everyone was chanting USA and cheering on each goal that was scored, and this was in or from the movie only, all 150 people who sat and watched! It was so cool! Like a Rocky Horror Picture show, haha! Interaction for sure!

A little known fact, this movie came out right before the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. The U.S. 4x200m Freestyle Relay Team watched this movie the night before their race to fire themselves up. They went on to beat the Aussies by only .13 of a second and ended the Aussies' 7 year winning-streak in that event.
2004 Boston Red Sox watched it as well during their historic ALCS comeback against the Yanks who woulda thought a 3-0 deficient and yet thanks 2 Big Papi won four straight games and then a week finally ended the Curse of the Bambino after 86 frustrating years
In the Beijing 2008 Olympics the USA 4x100m freestyle relay team were huge underdogs to France, who made no secret they were determined to end Michael Phelps quest for 8 golds at the second hurdle, or in their words, “smash the Americans.” Going into the last changeover the USA looked doomed as France had the individual champion Alain Bernard on the anchor, suddenly the American anchorman, Jason Lezak caught and past him to win the gold by .08. It wouldn’t have surprised me if Jason Lezak watched this movie prior to that race as well, because his comeback on the last leg was miraculous, nobody could believe it.
Really like the look on the Soviet's face at 1:38. It's like he genuinely appreciates how happy this group of kids is and is thinking something along the lines of "they deserve this joy."
You are dead on correct, sir. Some of the Soviet players in interviews years later said then when they watched the Americans celebrate that they realized they didn’t have the passion for the game. Winning meant nothing to them because they were expected to win. It was like a 9 to 5 job. And after this game they realized they had taken winning for granted all those years and thus didn’t have the passion for the game that the Americans had.

It's hilarious to hear people today throw that word "Miracle" around, like it's something that happens regularly, in sports that is. This wasn't a lucky play or a regular season game. This was truly miraculous. A group of college kids who'd only played together for 7-8 months beat the Russians, men who'd been together since the 60's, gold medal winners since '64 and above all, downright intimidating. This truly was, in sports, David vs. Goliath. Nothing in American sports will ever top this moment.....NOTHING!

I was 9 years old when I saw this (the actual game, not the movie). My family and I were just in awe when it happened! It gave USA hope and pride. In 1980, The Shah of Iran was overthrown and was replaced by the Ayatollah Khomeini. As a result, US had citizens that were hostages in Iran when the US Embassy was taken over.

i was 10 in the early 70's watching Kurt Russell as a teen doing Disney Movies. found out later he was a Star Baseball player, even had a minor league contract. worked with a man in Norcal who went to H.S. with Kurt and said he was one hell of a baseball player and he said Kurt could have made the Majors. Kurt's in my top 5 actor category and i continue to admire him as a humble human being.
Hands down one of the most inspiring scenes in movie history. Whether you're a hockey fan or not, it is impossible to keep a dry eye watching this scene. RIP Herb Brooks, you will always be an american hero.

I love the chance to remember where I was when something good happened. I was 21, working in a coffee shop in Chico CA. Everybody was buzzing about the game. I got a chance to watch the replay that night. Chills. I'll never forget. 🇺🇸

This win was a symbol of what being on a team is all about and working together, and American's win was no fluke, anyone who thinks otherwise has always been and will ever be a loser. Much Love from Canada!
The game symbolized the entire Cold War when you think about it. It symbolized how despite the accomplishments and wins made by the Soviets, America always come out on top at the end. It also symbolized a shift in our beliefs. We were a country divided and full of uncertainty. Us beating the Soviets and winning the gold helped renewed the American spirit within us all, something that hadn't been truly seen since the Apollo missions. Finally, it also symbolized Western culture and ideals, and how, despite the hardships we may endure, we ways overcome. Today, we need another Miracle, not just for America, but for Canada, the UK, and the rest of the Western World. We are losing hope, and a triumphant victory over our enemies is needed.
Kurt’s acting in the hallway alone is incredible, and the most emotional part of the movie. He was cut from his team. No one believed in him, including the players at first. He never gave up on his dream against all odds. Dream on 😢
My reaction at the final buzzer was just as overwhelming as the night I watched this game live from Lake Placid, NY. This whole country had been in a deep state of national depression after Watergate, the disappointing Ford Administration then 4 years of no leadership under Carter. I really think we were as close to giving up on the dream that is America at that time than at any point in my entire life. We elected Reagan who began to try and instill some pride back into our people and kept telling us that "America's best days are still ahead." At that time, it was kind of hard to believe. Then the "Miracle on Ice" happened. Everyone I know and all the talking heads on sports radio and television had everyone convinced that the Soviets were unstoppable, these poor kids were going to get skated all over and there wasn't anything to do but hope for a Silver. The Olympics started with a sense of dread. My whole neighborhood was glued to our television sets and when the team finally won, you could hear car horns, gunshots, whooping and hollering even despite the closed windows. These kids did win, and they showed us that we could win again and despite everything that had happened in the past decade, we could still believe in the dream again. We owe these kids and their tenacity more than we can ever repay.
I watched the game on tape delay in 1980, watched this movie probably twenty times and have watched this UA-cam clip 100 times! Still tear up every time Al Michaels makes the call.
OMGoodnesss!!!! I remember this time in our history and clips of this movie can still fill me with pride for these young men and this country. I always shed a tear.
What is almost never mentioned is that not only did the Soviets win gold in the four Winters before 1980, they won again in 84 and 88 and the unified team won in 1992 as well. So basically the Russians either as the Soviets or a unified team won gold in seven of eight Winters after 1960. The only time they failed to win gold? 1980 in Lake Placid. THAT, and the fact that we beat a bunch of professionals with college kids, my friends is what truly makes this the greatest upset in the history of competitive sports. The Soviets weren't just dominant for 20 years, they were dominant for over THIRTY years. And we were the only thing stopping them from winning gold in EIGHT straight winters.
A professional team under the guise of amateurs...olympic team..yeah right .was always nice to see them get their asses kicked....but not often ...hence our love hate..as north americans.
Only twice has a movie made me so happy that I was brought to tears. The moment when Herb goes beneath the stands to be alone for a moment, just to unleash all of his emotion that had been building ever since he didn’t make the team in 1960 - you can truly feel it. Incredible acting by Kurt Russell. When he finally puts his head in his hands, drops down and cries.. yup, uncontrollable tears of joy for this guy. Kudos to the filmmaker and Russell for bringing the raw emotion of such a moment in history to life.

As a hockey coach, or coach in general, nothing ever can feel like Herb felt at 3:03... You can't celebrate but it has a feeling that cannot be replicated as a player or otherwise. This was powerful
Best moment of this movie for me is when Herb looks at Patti, "I did it!". If you love your Wife, you know just how important that unspoken dialogue is between the two.

What I wonder is how did they lose so badly in the practice game a few weeks before and then go on and play so well afterwards? I know the coach had made sure they had adequate conditioning up to the level of the Soviets (even moreso), but skill-wise, I don't know how they matched them. The coach had implemented a hybrid Canadian-Soviet philosophy for the team, but to perfect such a thing I'd think would take years of practice (as trivia, the Soviet system itself was an adoption from the Canadian system, which the Soviets then developed into their own unique style).

There is a documentary on the Soviet team called "Of Miracles and Men." It humanizes the Soviet team a lot as you see who they were, and I mean they weren't evil men, just guys playing for their country. However, that Boris Mikhailov is quite the character. In the interview, he is asked if he has seen the movie "Miracle." Mikhailov: "What miracle?" Translator: "The American movie about how they beat you." Mikhailov: "Why would I watch that? If I watch a film, it will be a good film, one where I win. LET THE AMERICAN TEAM WATCH WHAT THEY DID." Something tells me he still hasn't quite gotten over that loss :D :D :D :D

Kyle Blank ... Mikhailov spoke with the arrogance of a two-time Olympic Champion and eight-time World Champion. He had an incredible career. I think he got over the loss in 1980 just fine. He just didn't see the reason behind engaging in all of the hype around that one game. And really, why should he?
J.T. Dutch An Olympic champion is not supposed to be arrogant. They are supposed to be humble, the very definition of sportsmanship. And I think he clearly did not get over that loss. If he really had gotten over it, he'd have just said something like, "I haven't seen the movie. I will admit that for that one game at least, the American team was the better team," or something like that.
Kyle Blank ... When you win a couple of Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships, you can tell Mikhailov how to act. To me, sports at the highest level are played with confidence that borders on arrogance, and I don't blame some for crossing that border. Mikhailov had an incredible career that he worked his ass off to attain and sustain. He's earned the right to be arrogant. It was plain to see that Mikhailov did give the U.S. team a lot of credit in the 30 for 30, saying that the Americans "were skating faster" than the Soviets and that the Soviet team was "not psychologically prepared" for the incredible improvement of the American team only a week or so after the U.S.S.R. team had stomped them into the ground in their first meeting. Why would Mikhailov be interested in a movie that was made for Americans? A movie based around a game that he played in? He didn't need to watch that. He lived it.

And no, one does not need to be an Olympic athlete to tell an Olympian how to act. Being an Olympian doesn't put one at some higher level morally where they are beyond criticism. Also, I was not saying that he should be interested in the movie, just that by his response to the question about it, that he has not gotten over that loss. I do not know if I would say he gave the U.S. team credit for being the better team that day, as one could say he was just observing the performance of the U.S. team versus the Soviet team that day.
It was incredible how Herb waited until he was around no one to express his emotions. He had did it...the team had did it. They won, and went on to win the Gold. If you don't tear up watching this, tell...
Growing up in SC in 1980 we knew nothing about Hockey. We never missed church for any reason. My mom said we are staying home from church and watching the USA vs USSR Hockey game. The little lady knew something special was about to happen and didn't want to miss it. Still to this day the greatest event I have ever watched on TV. Thanks Mom.
I was 20, a hockey fan for 10 of them, when this game was played, and I watched this game on TV with my dad, who liked football & basketball over hockey: while that game didn't change his preferences, afterwards he always appreciated the passion that hockey fans have for the game

At 0:45, you can hear the audio transition from the re-recording from announcer Al Michaels to the original 1980 broadcast. Michaels agreed to reprise his role as commentor for the movie, but when it came time for him to deliver his famous "Do you believe in miracles?" right at the win, Michaels felt he couldn't truly replicate the genuine emotion and power of that original moment. It was that powerful and that iconic.
That shows you how dumb I was, because when I first saw it, I thought all of it was from that night until I got the DVD and they explained that most of it was a recording for the film. They could've fooled me.
For most of the game sequence, Michaels recorded his play call live in 2003 for the movie. But for the last 10 seconds they used the original audio tape of Al's 1980 broadcast. It would be impossible not to. The euphoria and emotion of those last 10 seconds can never be replicated.
I remember watching ‘Miracle’ in the theater back in 2004. Though we all knew the outcome of the real game, it was so cool when the entire theater started clapping and cheering as if we had seen this game live. One of my favorite experiences while watching a movie. Go USA!

This has to be one of my favorite movies. I used to play hockey for seven years. I saw it when i did play it. I just fell in love with it because, the feel of a victory that great is just amazing.

I had this feeling when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon...When the USA hockey team beat the Russians and the Finnish team to win gold in Lake Placid in 1980 and when Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrigs games played record...What I saw transcended sports...It was such a rare and unforgettable feeling...It will stay with me always...Incredible

I don’t cry at many movies but this ending always makes cry. Knowing that the USA faced incredible odds and no one believed that they could win, let alone give it their best effort. Brooks always knew and despite what people thought, he never gave up and his boys didn’t either. Just typing about it makes me cry. When Herb goes into the hallway, I lose it even more.

That transition to the actual commentary is probably the most surreal, tear-jerking moment of the whole movie. In a time of war and turmoil the whole world watched as a bunch of college kids defeated the best team in the world. People who don't know anything about hockey watched this game. And it is still the very best Underdog story of all time.

Goalie Jim Craig in real life after he won the gold did look for his dad in the stands. I remember that. Great that the filmmakers picked that up! This movie was so great. Every scene was awesome! Dare I say perfect!
this movie really shows why hockey is such a fantastic sport and how amazing it is to be a part of a team like that. i think that a lot of people take it for granted if they have a team that is more like a family to them. this was a great movie, and one of the best moments in hockey history.

now I am very aware of the miracle of berne, Germany wins world cup over Hungary, but they had pro players like eckel and shafer, who played for koln and Kaiserslautern and its only a miracle because they got slaughtered 7-1 in the group stage or something like that, Leicester city was a huge upset, but not a miracle, Leicester too had professional players, mind you it wasn't like the guys renieri signed before that season had never played professional football in their life, they had carried over good form from last season when they won 7 out of 8 or whatever. These usa players were straight out of college, 19 or 20. and they beat the greatest hockey team on the planet who earlier slaughter the NHL (pro American hockey league) all-stars 13-8 over 3 games the year before, with the last game being 6-0, proving how the soviets had to just turn it on when they needed it
And to top the game off with commentator Al Michaels screaming out the words in the dying seconds of the game: "Do You Believe In Miracles?.....YES!!!" This was a classic game and upset. Nobody expected this young American hockey team to do what they did. For true hockey fans, this movie is a must see.

It's because he was sprinting back to the locker room to be by himself and cry. I can't imagine what he was feeling at that moment. Incredible.

A little known fact, this movie came out right before the 2004 Summer Games in Athens. The U.S. 4x200m Freestyle Relay Team watched this movie the night before their race to fire themselves up. They went on to beat the Aussies by only .13 of a second and ended the Aussies' 7 year winning-streak in that event.
2004 Boston Red Sox watched it as well during their historic ALCS comeback against the Yanks who woulda thought a 3-0 deficient and yet thanks 2 Big Papi won four straight games and then a week finally ended the Curse of the Bambino after 86 frustrating years
In the Beijing 2008 Olympics the USA 4x100m freestyle relay team were huge underdogs to France, who made no secret they were determined to end Michael Phelps quest for 8 golds at the second hurdle, or in their words, “smash the Americans.” Going into the last changeover the USA looked doomed as France had the individual champion Alain Bernard on the anchor, suddenly the American anchorman, Jason Lezak caught and past him to win the gold by .08. It wouldn’t have surprised me if Jason Lezak watched this movie prior to that race as well, because his comeback on the last leg was miraculous, nobody could believe it.

Really like the look on the Soviet's face at 1:38. It's like he genuinely appreciates how happy this group of kids is and is thinking something along the lines of "they deserve this joy."
You are dead on correct, sir. Some of the Soviet players in interviews years later said then when they watched the Americans celebrate that they realized they didn’t have the passion for the game. Winning meant nothing to them because they were expected to win. It was like a 9 to 5 job. And after this game they realized they had taken winning for granted all those years and thus didn’t have the passion for the game that the Americans had.

As a Canadian this is with out a doubt one of the greatest moments in the history of the game.
It's hilarious to hear people today throw that word "Miracle" around, like it's something that happens regularly, in sports that is. This wasn't a lucky play or a regular season game. This was truly miraculous. A group of college kids who'd only played together for 7-8 months beat the Russians, men who'd been together since the 60's, gold medal winners since '64 and above all, downright intimidating. This truly was, in sports, David vs. Goliath. Nothing in American sports will ever top this moment.....NOTHING!
Oh idk about that, I mean the only reason this is considered the best is the political side of it. There’s been all kinds of people done different stuff in different sports for decades as big underdogs. This is definitely up there though.

I was 9 years old when I saw this (the actual game, not the movie). My family and I were just in awe when it happened! It gave USA hope and pride. In 1980, The Shah of Iran was overthrown and was replaced by the Ayatollah Khomeini. As a result, US had citizens that were hostages in Iran when the US Embassy was taken over.

i was 10 in the early 70's watching Kurt Russell as a teen doing Disney Movies. found out later he was a Star Baseball player, even had a minor league contract. worked with a man in Norcal who went to H.S. with Kurt and said he was one hell of a baseball player and he said Kurt could have made the Majors. Kurt's in my top 5 actor category and i continue to admire him as a humble human being.
Hands down one of the most inspiring scenes in movie history. Whether you're a hockey fan or not, it is impossible to keep a dry eye watching this scene. RIP Herb Brooks, you will always be an american hero.

The game symbolized the entire Cold War when you think about it. It symbolized how despite the accomplishments and wins made by the Soviets, America always come out on top at the end. It also symbolized a shift in our beliefs. We were a country divided and full of uncertainty. Us beating the Soviets and winning the gold helped renewed the American spirit within us all, something that hadn't been truly seen since the Apollo missions. Finally, it also symbolized Western culture and ideals, and how, despite the hardships we may endure, we ways overcome.
Today, we need another Miracle, not just for America, but for Canada, the UK, and the rest of the Western World. We are losing hope, and a triumphant victory over our enemies is needed.

Kurt’s acting in the hallway alone is incredible, and the most emotional part of the movie. He was cut from his team. No one believed in him, including the players at first. He never gave up on his dream against all odds. Dream on 😢
My reaction at the final buzzer was just as overwhelming as the night I watched this game live from Lake Placid, NY. This whole country had been in a deep state of national depression after Watergate, the disappointing Ford Administration then 4 years of no leadership under Carter. I really think we were as close to giving up on the dream that is America at that time than at any point in my entire life. We elected Reagan who began to try and instill some pride back into our people and kept telling us that "America's best days are still ahead." At that time, it was kind of hard to believe.
Then the "Miracle on Ice" happened. Everyone I know and all the talking heads on sports radio and television had everyone convinced that the Soviets were unstoppable, these poor kids were going to get skated all over and there wasn't anything to do but hope for a Silver. The Olympics started with a sense of dread.
My whole neighborhood was glued to our television sets and when the team finally won, you could hear car horns, gunshots, whooping and hollering even despite the closed windows.
These kids did win, and they showed us that we could win again and despite everything that had happened in the past decade, we could still believe in the dream again. We owe these kids and their tenacity more than we can ever repay.
Jimmy Carter might not have been the best President, but he sure was a helluva lot better than Reagan who was insanely unqualified for the job

I remember this time in our history and clips of this movie can still fill me with pride for these young men and this country. I always shed a tear.
What is almost never mentioned is that not only did the Soviets win gold in the four Winters before 1980, they won again in 84 and 88 and the unified team won in 1992 as well.
So basically the Russians either as the Soviets or a unified team won gold in seven of eight Winters after 1960. The only time they failed to win gold? 1980 in Lake Placid.
THAT, and the fact that we beat a bunch of professionals with college kids, my friends is what truly makes this the greatest upset in the history of competitive sports. The Soviets weren't just dominant for 20 years, they were dominant for over THIRTY years. And we were the only thing stopping them from winning gold in EIGHT straight winters.
A professional team under the guise of amateurs...olympic team..yeah right .was always nice to see them get their asses kicked....but not often ...hence our love hate..as north americans.

Only twice has a movie made me so happy that I was brought to tears. The moment when Herb goes beneath the stands to be alone for a moment, just to unleash all of his emotion that had been building ever since he didn’t make the team in 1960 - you can truly feel it. Incredible acting by Kurt Russell. When he finally puts his head in his hands, drops down and cries.. yup, uncontrollable tears of joy for this guy. Kudos to the filmmaker and Russell for bringing the raw emotion of such a moment in history to life.

As a hockey coach, or coach in general, nothing ever can feel like Herb felt at 3:03... You can't celebrate but it has a feeling that cannot be replicated as a player or otherwise. This was powerful
Best moment of this movie for me is when Herb looks at Patti, "I did it!". If you love your Wife, you know just how important that unspoken dialogue is between the two.

What I wonder is how did they lose so badly in the practice game a few weeks before and then go on and play so well afterwards? I know the coach had made sure they had adequate conditioning up to the level of the Soviets (even moreso), but skill-wise, I don't know how they matched them. The coach had implemented a hybrid Canadian-Soviet philosophy for the team, but to perfect such a thing I'd think would take years of practice (as trivia, the Soviet system itself was an adoption from the Canadian system, which the Soviets then developed into their own unique style).

There is a documentary on the Soviet team called "Of Miracles and Men." It humanizes the Soviet team a lot as you see who they were, and I mean they weren't evil men, just guys playing for their country. However, that Boris Mikhailov is quite the character. In the interview, he is asked if he has seen the movie "Miracle."
Mikhailov: "What miracle?"
Translator: "The American movie about how they beat you."
Mikhailov: "Why would I watch that? If I watch a film, it will be a good film, one where I win. LET THE AMERICAN TEAM WATCH WHAT THEY DID."

I think he got over the loss in 1980 just fine. He just didn't see the reason behind engaging in all of the hype around that one game. And really, why should he?
J.T. Dutch An Olympic champion is not supposed to be arrogant. They are supposed to be humble, the very definition of sportsmanship. And I think he clearly did not get over that loss. If he really had gotten over it, he'd have just said something like, "I haven't seen the movie. I will admit that for that one game at least, the American team was the better team," or something like that.
Kyle Blank ... When you win a couple of Olympic gold medals and eight World Championships, you can tell Mikhailov how to act. To me, sports at the highest level are played with confidence that borders on arrogance, and I don't blame some for crossing that border. Mikhailov had an incredible career that he worked his ass off to attain and sustain. He's earned the right to be arrogant.
It was plain to see that Mikhailov did give the U.S. team a lot of credit in the 30 for 30, saying that the Americans "were skating faster" than the Soviets and that the Soviet team was "not psychologically prepared" for the incredible improvement of the American team only a week or so after the U.S.S.R. team had stomped them into the ground in their first meeting.
Why would Mikhailov be interested in a movie that was made for Americans? A movie based around a game that he played in? He didn't need to watch that. He lived it.
J.T. Dutch Once you cross into arrogance as an athlete, you end up doing something like losing to an opponent that you shouldn't, which is exactly what happened with the Soviet team. And no, one does not need to be an Olympic athlete to tell an Olympian how to act. Being an Olympian doesn't put one at some higher level morally where they are beyond criticism.
Also, I was not saying that he should be interested in the movie, just that by his response to the question about it, that he has not gotten over that loss.
I do not know if I would say he gave the U.S. team credit for being the better team that day, as one could say he was just observing the performance of the U.S. team versus the Soviet team that day.

Growing up in SC in 1980 we knew nothing about Hockey. We never missed church for any reason. My mom said we are staying home from church and watching the USA vs USSR Hockey game. The little lady knew something special was about to happen and didn't want to miss it. Still to this day the greatest event I have ever watched on TV. Thanks Mom.

I was 20, a hockey fan for 10 of them, when this game was played, and I watched this game on TV with my dad, who liked football & basketball over hockey:

At 0:45, you can hear the audio transition from the re-recording from announcer Al Michaels to the original 1980 broadcast. Michaels agreed to reprise his role as commentor for the movie, but when it came time for him to deliver his famous "Do you believe in miracles?" right at the win, Michaels felt he couldn't truly replicate the genuine emotion and power of that original moment. It was that powerful and that iconic.
The dubbed audio from :10 in is one of Disney's finest moments. Great idea to do that, and really makes you remember this was real.

That shows you how dumb I was, because when I first saw it, I thought all of it was from that night until I got the DVD and they explained that most of it was a recording for the film. They could've fooled me.
For most of the game sequence, Michaels recorded his play call live in 2003 for the movie. But for the last 10 seconds they used the original audio tape of Al's 1980 broadcast. It would be impossible not to. The euphoria and emotion of those last 10 seconds can never be replicated.

This has to be one of my favorite movies. I used to play hockey for seven years. I saw it when i did play it. I just fell in love with it because, the feel of a victory that great is just amazing.
I get chills every time. Especially once you hear the original TV broadcast. I've been playing hockey for 14 years. These men inspired me to keep pushing even when your body has given out. God bless.

I had this feeling when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon...When the USA hockey team beat the Russians and the Finnish team to win gold in Lake Placid in 1980 and when Cal Ripken broke Lou Gehrigs games played record...What I saw transcended sports...It was such a rare and unforgettable feeling...It will stay with me always...Incredible
I honestly like the looks that Herb and Patty give each other at the end. You can tell that she's happy for him and the team and they are both clearly thinking "We did it"
I don’t cry at many movies but this ending always makes cry. Knowing that the USA faced incredible odds and no one believed that they could win, let alone give it their best effort. Brooks always knew and despite what people thought, he never gave up and his boys didn’t either. Just typing about it makes me cry. When Herb goes into the hallway, I lose it even more.

One of the greatest moments in sports history, and a great movie to depict it. Kurt Russel was vastly underrated for this. He was superb in his role as Herb Brooks!
That transition to the actual commentary is probably the most surreal, tear-jerking moment of the whole movie. In a time of war and turmoil the whole world watched as a bunch of college kids defeated the best team in the world. People who don't know anything about hockey watched this game. And it is still the very best Underdog story of all time.

this movie really shows why hockey is such a fantastic sport and how amazing it is to be a part of a team like that. i think that a lot of people take it for granted if they have a team that is more like a family to them. this was a great movie, and one of the best moments in hockey history.

As I like both sports I'd say this is the Soccer equivalent to the 1954 West German world cup win, "Miracle of Berne". (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1954_FIFA_World_Cup_Final)
now I am very aware of the miracle of berne, Germany wins world cup over Hungary, but they had pro players like eckel and shafer, who played for koln and Kaiserslautern and its only a miracle because they got slaughtered 7-1 in the group stage or something like that, Leicester city was a huge upset, but not a miracle, Leicester too had professional players, mind you it wasn't like the guys renieri signed before that season had never played professional football in their life, they had carried over good form from last season when they won 7 out of 8 or whatever. These usa players were straight out of college, 19 or 20. and they beat the greatest hockey team on the planet who earlier slaughter the NHL (pro American hockey league) all-stars 13-8 over 3 games the year before, with the last game being 6-0, proving how the soviets had to just turn it on when they needed it
And to top the game off with commentator Al Michaels screaming out the words in the dying seconds of the game: "Do You Believe In Miracles?.....YES!!!" This was a classic game and upset. Nobody expected this young American hockey team to do what they did. For true hockey fans, this movie is a must see.

I've seen this movie several times, and yet I'm always on the edge of my seat during this scene, and I always cheer when they win. it gives me goosebumps.
I vividly remember watching the game on tv. What a huge story and needed boost it was for the U.S. after such a horrible few years we'd all suffered thru in the late 70's. Only saw this movie for the first time 40 years after its release and Kurt Russell's amazing performance just blew me away.
