I started uploading short videos consistently in summer 2021. I think my channel is at 79k subs because I didn't copy any other channels but were inspired by them and I put my own spin on it. I scoured UA-cam for other UA-camrs in Detroit and in my niche and there might be just one other channel doing something similar to mine but my channel is unique. It's never too late to start a UA-cam channel in 2024 but it's more saturated than ever and getting your channel to grow is getting more difficult.
Try to cut out the rambling in the edit and keep things moving. Over time as you hear yourself condensed down, you will actually start to replicate that in real life. It's similar to how it helps a shooter to edit their own footage in the beginning because in the process they learn how NOT to shoot. They will start shooting a lot less useless footage and the overall quality of shots will rise... Keep on the journey 👊✌️
Yeah man. I thought I stuck to the point recently but now I'm editing and I am not happy with my little wandering thoughts coming out. I gotta try to script so I can make all of the points I want to make known. Nothing like saying some good stuff and then adding something I just thought abiut..... explaining it. And then forgetting g a crucial point and there isn't roo. To insert it..... unless.... I delete the part and make a new one
Being a UA-camr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of help from Fame - ster of course) will always pay off at the end.
Good afternoon. Thank you for suck encouragemebt. And I appreciate what you are saying so much. I have the desire, passion, and drive, and I believe I can do this. For me, right now I'm feeling like where or who do I turn to for help. Trying to properly connect my audio-video equipment and input proper settings so this process works continues to be my roadblock. I am a praying that someone will take the time to help me put this together.
Bro. I don’t know if you are going to read this. But as a content creator I know how much work you had with this video. Specially because of the variety of angles and takes. Congratulations, just the video itself is a piece of art.

Good morning. About three weeks ago I restarted my UA-cam journey with a serious goal that I'm working hard towards. And during this time I've seen many videos showing you how to go from “0 to 1000 Subscribers in 30 days” but none of those videos stood out to me as much as yours. Your sincerity and your ability to relate to your audience is refreshing. Just last night I was inspired to start formulating videos charting my journey from a “realistic” perspective and then I woke up and saw this video which is a sign that I'm on the right path. And finally, you may not realize it now but in making this video you did not give your audience just another “How To” video, you gave us an experience and THAT is the ingredient of a GREAT content creator. I pray the best of God's blessing for you my VA neighbor. 🙏🏼✨
@drwhitlock it's going a bit slow 🐌. I've posted a few videos and. Then deleted them. It's like youtube isn't showing them or because I'm a new channel they are not being found 🙄? What’s up DMV fam. I’m an old head and looking to start creating content. You were right about getting out of your own head. I appreciate you saying find relevant topics and then allowing your personality to show through.
I feel so privileged to see this RAW behind the scenes experience and hear your thoughts as you go through the entire process. A perfect (and realistic) blend of anxiety, gratefulness, and determination. This is the content that we as new content creators NEED to see ☝🏾☝🏾☝🏾
man I'm really inspired to watch this guys videos. He literally uses the world as his playground. He has an eye for everything and it wouldn't be bad if I tried to emulate that. it gives me a certain hope to start creating content.
First, why is he wearing a winter jacket and shorts? 😂 All jokes aside, this video randomly popped up on my UA-cam feed and it's exactly what I needed. I'm a music and sports journalist whose best skill is writing, but all of these media companies (i.e. Pitchfork, Complex, Okayplayer, etc.) are going through major writer layoffs and pivoting to video/social media content. It's not my strength, but I've been trying to buy a camera, get some equipment and pivot my writing into social media. However, I don't want to sound or look like everyone else that's established. I say all of that to say this video was really helpful in giving me the confidence to just try stuff and get going.
This was amazing. I appreciated the candid shots, commentary about the shots and the procedure. I also REALLY appreciated the reinforcement that doing what you are passionate about will create loyalty and that's what it's all about. Thank you SO much for this. You're my new fav production deep dive. Thank you!
My daughter and I watch your videos everyday and absolutely love them. There was a lighting video that really caught our attention and was just helpful as all get out. 17:57 would have to be my favorite in this video.
🙏🙏🙏 Man, I always appreciate your honesty, authenticity, and perspective. I've learned so much from you just watching over the years. I'm always inspired by one of your videos! Thank you.
I made it to the end. I love how you were able to give back so much insight and wisdom about YT (2024). I have been stuck for a month and this video has given me a lot of clarity about how to get moving again. Thank you! If you ever visit NZ I am in Christchurch and I can show you around.
Thank you for sharing this, it will help a lot. People often forget that being a UA-camr is like running a business. You give people what they want, and they reward you with their attention, resulting in income. Of course, it is tough to start and grow to the point you are monetized (but with a little bit of Famester everything is possible. I can't emphasize how much this online tool has helped me).
I get too caught up trying to make the perfect video to the point that I still haven't uploaded any of my creations. Watching you just be your authentic self shows me that I should stop thinking my work needs to look like a hollywood production before I put it out. 🙏🙏🙏

I don't know what inspired you to do this whole behind the scenes within the video thing, but I love it. Sometimes I just let it play in the background while I clean the studio, then I go back and watch it for real. Good content as usual b.
I appreciate this more down to earth, experienced take. It feels more real than a lot of the other advice out there. I wish there was actual advice out there for just getting past the fear of starting. I used the excuse “I don’t have the right equipment to do this” for too long, then I bought all the equipment, and I still haven’t done anything because it’s hard to put yourself out there with a beginner quality videos. I know the answer is “just do it anyway”, but its hard to overcome that hesitation
My favorite parts were the raw cuts of just how many issues you can easily run into. Lol Ironic enough... the fact that you had to problem solve on the go, and didn't even wind up being able to get some of the shots you wanted is probably the realest and most inspiring part for me.
I'm sitting here enjoying the video and about 26:00 in I come to a revelation. I'm like man @YCImaging videos inspiring as hell since I started wanting to get started and I'm really enjoying this video. "Don't sleep on your perspective." Might be the best line I've heard all week. That just really helped me out because I ALWAYS discount my own perspective for someone else's habitually. I never give myself enough credit for my own opinions.
I played this video while typing at work. Now that I'm done slaving for my job, I'm going to replay it while heading home. This segment gives me podcast vibes. Great content!
Timely video for me right now, at a place with my channel where I want to pivot but worried how my current audience will take it. Definitely made a few of the mistakes you mentioned here.
This is by far the best “day in the life” I have EVER watched. And it’s very encouraging to those of us who want to jump in these waters and start a UA-cam channel. Kudos to you. Keep the great content coming❣️

The FIRST 37min video I've watched all the way through. Absolutely class. 🙏🙏🙏 Your advice about trimming out your personality is my biggest take away that I've been guilty of, so thank you!
Stayed till the end. Always good content and your method of showing behind the scenes while dropping knowledge makes it highly watchable as well as inspirational and informative. Thanks for all you do!
First time watching a video of yours & I love it here. I am going to be binging all of your videos for some inspiration. Definitely felt you on trying to make the gym a priority and being in good health is more important than the content. So shoutout to you on that reminder.
I really enjoy watching your videos and I learn so much every time , I've been thinking and doing research to get me to the point where this mite be the year I start my own UA-cam channel . .. thank you and keep up the good work
Thank you for this video! I'm a noob in the world of content creating after toying with it for a couple of years. I've been doing videos for a couple of months now. This really helps me in how I want to develop my channel, and to not just doing the "throw spaghetti on the wall" method. Very insightful and encouraging! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Good take on the copy cat mentality. I think it's important to copy in order to learn, but that you have to copy a bunch of different things, see what works, add it to your arsenal, and then keep leveling up. The straight jump to some low hanging fruit then the desire to stick with it is what is making a ton of mediocre content continue to pop up. I'm happy to see more people trying to stand out and do things differently, but it's really difficult. It's all I want to learn how to do at this point.
This is the first of your videos that I have seen, but liked it and feel that it was really helpful. I have been piddling on UA-cam the past year. The past 4 years, my "good" videos were done by my videographer friend, and they are good for what I paid- but I am taking the dive into obtaining my own equipment and producing my own quality content. Also, I too am in Virginia- just south of Fredericksburg
"We made it this far!", Great video, been enjoying your videos and clips. My husband and I are active duty military and we just wanted peace and enjoy the way you film and your setup/explanations. We are just using a GoPro 7 for our filming and are inspired to eventually get to your level of gear someday. Keep up the great work.
So grateful I found your channel. I appreciate how candid and authentic you are. I am an aspiring videographer and can’t wait to put I’m learning from you into practice. A lot of your content has given me some great ideas. Now I just have to actually do it lol Keep it up!

"Don't sleep on your perspective." Might be the best line I've heard all week. That just really helped me out because I ALWAYS discount my own perspective for someone else's habitually. I never give myself enough credit for my own opinions.
Thank you so much for posting this. I had one of those days where nothing went well filming. Seeing how you handled it will help next time.
This message was right on time, man. I been debating pivoting and exactly how I want to pivot and you affirmed what I been thinking.
This was great brother. Love the shot design and framing. More more more!
3 mins in and I keep thinking this style of you outside kinda leading us into shots with movement is so fire! Appreciate the time you put into these🙏🏽
This is by far the best “day in the life” I have EVER watched. And it’s very encouraging to those of us who want to jump in these waters and start a UA-cam channel. Kudos to you. Keep the great content coming❣️
So wait @YCImaging you did a break down without telling us it’s a breakdown !!! 🔥🔥 don’t just do it Do it Now!!! I like how you did this video!!!
Champion! I made it to the end! Thank you so much. Keep up the great work. You just made filming so much understanding. I am filming first video for my other UA-cam channel this week. Your advise is Godsend. And will be 90% useful. Thank you again.
🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽 but actually all the way to the end. I'm always down to listen to ya man. thanks for the vid!
🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
Always inspiring, brodie. Learned a ton from your videos over the past 5+ years.
Finally reached 1K last week from applying many of the tips you’ve shared over time.
Much appreciated.
So many good things to say about this video, I can't land on 1 bro 🔥
🙏🙏🙏 you've taught me son much over the years how'd did you get over the fear of it all
So good man. Love the mix of the polished production with the making of footage.
Parkinsons Law - work expands to fill the time allotted. Videos lately are so good, absolutely love the format. Keep killing it.
❤❤❤ from start to finish this was a great video ❤❤❤
Maaaaan ... I can watch yours videos all day long..
I love how chill you are.. so easy to watch 😌👌🏾
I really enjoy watching your videos and I learn so much every time , I've been thinking and doing research to get me to the point where this mite be the year I start my own UA-cam channel . .. thank you and keep up the good work
Filming locations 🔥, angles Dopee. Love everything about this video
Great video. My issue is thinking what people will think when I’m out filming. I’ve done but still gotta get over that bump.. 🙏🙏🙏
It’s definitely weird while filming out at first, just something you get used to.
Thank you for this video! I'm a noob in the world of content creating after toying with it for a couple of years. I've been doing videos for a couple of months now. This really helps me in how I want to develop my channel, and to not just doing the "throw spaghetti on the wall" method. Very insightful and encouraging! 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
This video is honestly so real and it truly captures the essence of being human and a content creator...And you are a big inspiration YC
Timing is immaculate! Just got my iPhone 15 pro and now I'm taking notes... thank you so much for the sage advice, you are a fountain of creation.
Also, I too am in Virginia- just south of Fredericksburg
i aspire to this level of content one day! thank you for the video!
Where have you been all my lifeeeee. Thank you for this video 📌📌📌📌
This is fire! Recording 2 videos in one. Telling a story and then you told the story again haha Dope video. Thank you for sharing
I just like watching you break down your thoughts. That’s priceless info because I feel justified in my own chaotic thought patterns
This is the second video of yours that I've seen. You put so much passion into your content while being so humble, and teaching.
So grateful I found your channel. I appreciate how candid and authentic you are. I am an aspiring videographer and can’t wait to put I’m learning from you into practice. A lot of your content has given me some great ideas. Now I just have to actually do it lol Keep it up!
