    As someone who worked in start-ups his whole life, there's a lot of overlap that I translated to my channel. 5 year runway. Deep research. Establishing a value-prop. Fast evolution. I've said to a lot of people that getting good at building a UA-cam channel sets you up very well for managing a business in general. This is really a gem of a video and I hope new creatives watch this for the head start it's offering. Great work guys. ☕

    This is not a video about being a youtuber, it's how to start a sustainble career/ business
    Great video btw - this video in a nut shell
    - Find your interest, align with the market wants (Longer term career sustainability)
    - Be different and specialise (Why the market will want to pick you than another)
    - Test small (Wasting time, effort, money and brain energy is certain - keep this to the minimum)
    - Find a MVP - minimal value product (Develop an edge with mininal resources)
    - Use the sciencetic method (Can't get it right the first time, get feedback quick, amend, test again till desired result)
    - Be consistent with the basics and do it well (Advance tech is just many basics clumped together, it's the basics that need to be done right to get the outcome)
    I appreciate the effort you put into these videos, it's interesting to hear about the process on how this is applied in the youtube space 🥰

    • @MalachiaVT
      @MalachiaVT Місяць тому +1

      @@benjaminfairbourne But if you want to retain viewers you have to first get them to click, hence why it's so important to talk about the packaging of the video. Would you click on a video that has the title "My first minecraft world" and a thumbnail that looks auto generated by youtube? Or would you rather click on a video titled something like "I survived 100 days in Hardcore Minecraft" with a thumbnail that has the skin of the creator looking toward the camera and 100 days in a bold font or something? The more viewers who click, the more viewers you *can* retain.

  • @timhaubeil
    @timhaubeil 29 днів тому +1

    Solid episode overall, but a correction on CTR:
    Do NOT take CTR at face value! It is an extremely context dependant variable. What a 'good' CTR is depends so much on your niche, supply and demand for the type of videos you make, how long after upload you look at CTR, which traffic source impressions & views come from, how broad your impressions are and much more...
    Getting hung up on a specific CTR is nothing but a big distraction from the things that actually matter. Once you gain experience on your own channel it can be useful to judge whether you should try new packaging, but only if seen in the right context. Such as comparing it at number of impressions rather than time since upload & and comparing within the same traffic source.

    I really resonate with the 85% rule. Had a recent video that I released where there was a lot more in that extra 15% that I wanted to do in terms of pacing, audio, and a few other details. I didn't want to hold myself back from releasing it outside of the deadline I set. A few days go by and it turns out being my most viewed video on my channel at 350k+ views. While there were some comments pointing at the things I wanted to improve, overall the feedback was extremely positive and showed that perfectionism has a time and place.

When cooking creators realize that we don’t have time to sit at home & develop recipes all day like they do and get back to meeting us where we are, they’ll rebound nicely.

    Th 85% kills me every time because I love to edit my vids, but sometimes that 15% probably is not as necessary as I think it is... gotta practice that balance

    My new favorite YT channel to binge on. Very knowledgeable video. My top performing video has click through rate of 12% and I analyzed it and finally understood why it is working so well. Thanks Colin and Samir.

    I can personally speak to your advice about starting with Shorts... I launched this channel ONLY wanting to do Shorts, and then I realized later that my demographic was hungry for long form videos. By the time I started long form, I already have 40k+ subs and around 40m views. So I had a perfect launching pad for my long form videos. Now I only do long form, but without the Shorts foundation, it would've taken me years to get where I am now! I highly recommend every try Shorts to test their audience and get their first few subscribers.

    April thank you. Please consider doing a video specifically on translating features to value & finding the sweet spot within the continuum. Even after hearing it from you talking about them briefly, it feels like theres a ton of angles to consider making it tough to practically apply

    I already have hundreds of ideas for videos. Assuming I can get my health in order, nothing can stop me from doing videos long term, whether it's profitable or not. I took notes while watching and will be adding it to my years long research hoard. This video discussed many aspects I have already thought about, but in much more actionable ways. I cannot thank you both enough!

    Hello! I have never heard of you guys before and youtube showed me this video based on my searches within UA-cam. I want to say thank you for being honest here. You guys have said things other creators have not, and you both were so transparent. I just wanted to say thanks! It means a lot when a creator of your audience size is as transparent as you guys were in this video means a lot. Thanks again.

    Question - one factor that really strongly deters me from pursuing UA-cam is my inexperience with editing, or rather not wanting to pay for an editing platform, hence I have no experience. What would y’all recommend as far beginning steps for editing?

      I'm very happy with Capcut for PC (the desktop version) which is free. There are many YT video tutorials on how to use it. I do have a Premiere Pro subscription, but I'm almost always using Capcut instead because it's so much more pleasant to use. The only thing where Ppro is better is green screen keying, but it also works in Capcut if the footage is good.
