Brother, as one creative to another, I must express that your story moved me deeply. It resonated with me, as I saw myself reflected in your words. Your story reignited a dying fire within me, and for that, I am grateful. Your creativity is truly remarkable. The way you bring your visuals to life and make them seem so simple and relatable through your stories is impressive. Your work is truly inspiring. Please, continue to pursue your creative endeavors with passion and dedication.
Driving all that way to get ghosted by a client is wild! glad you didn't give up though...i feel like I go through those phases of thinking is any of this even worth it. stories like yours show us we ain't alone and we can get through it
I got 2 of those Ulanzi lights and made them go a long way on video shoots. Great for lighting car interiors, and for using as glowsticks at toddler dance parties.
honestly bro its so crazy to me. i honestly just had that moment you had where you finally got your car started, but i just had it with this video. like its so wild i just had to let you know. its a long story and i don't where to start but i'm literally on the brink of giving up as a freelance cinematographer and musician. for the passed month ive been slowly debating on putting it all away, planning different routes but this video came up as my computer started giving out on an edit and i was thinking like this could be the breaking point. and then i put this video on to kind of distract myself from the rendering and the thoughts. and boom! you cant ever give up. thank you, you got my head back in the game.
Be careful with "Deposits". Legally, deposits can be contested as refundable. Learned a long time ago that verbiage in contracts should read as a "Retainer" to avoid any potential issues with requests for refunds. This may vary based on location though... I'm in Texas. Enjoyed the video. Subbed!
Haha I clicked on this video for budget filmmaking items...instead I got a life lesson on intestinal fortitude! 😂 You're a natural story teller👌👍 Great video
I appreciate your videos! You were the reason why I brought the smaller Ulanzi light that sticks to metal. Thanks so much for helping us all save money and helping us make great images.
Thank you for sharing! I'm really feeling the storytelling in the car. It made me stay to the end. I really appreciate you providing your wisdom gained throughout your journey. Your recommendations is what made me to decide to purchase the A6300 a few years ago and I been pushing ever since! Please keep these videos coming!
Man I had that same quitting moment December 31, 2023. I brought the new year into my Hyundai Elantra because it wouldn’t start. I was in NYC for a shoot that didn’t happen and I live in Philly. I had a friend jump my car but it didn’t work. Then he called AAA for me and that didn’t work. My uncle drove from Philly to NYC with a new starter and saved me. I was down to my last at that time too. That made me quit music videos but my friend brought me back into it. Corporate life is no better 😂
Would be dope to see you and Ryan create a series taking the concept of the last collab but applying it to scene recreations, 15 second commercial, 30 sec fashion campaigns etc (all limited by time)! A 6 episode shoot out!
Love your Content, I have the Hollyland Lark M1 and have been using it for everything! I've been feeling defeated here and there, so this was definitely a needed message. Things happen for a reason, whether we like it or not (most time we don't like it) but those things can break us if we let it. This felt like it was a reminder to not give up and let those situations derail us.
Grateful to have come across your videos! I appreciate you sharing alternatives for creatives exploring the videography space and sharing your knowledge.
Love the story man, I feel those situations make you grow as a human and make you stronger. I think we all have those moments and the difference between those that find success is the keep on the path! Thanks for sharing, your story was timely for me to hear. Thanks from Aotearoa, New Zealand
I personally love my Hollyland Lark M1 kit. It was a huge upgrade from what i had before. Super useful for doing street style interview at Fighting Game and Smash Bros tournaments. With the dual mic set up, it helps keep piece of mind knowing i always have it charged and i can have my voice be heard while interviewing and being behind the camera
Great video my dude. I do have some advice when using a car mount... Most DPs will just strap a bungie to the camera and route it through a safe anchor to the vehicle just in case some element of the car mount does not succeed in securing it's hold... If you are running a budget rig... Just make sure to tether your very expensive camera down to a failsafe before you drive off.
18:45 Ulanzi is finally doing app control with their new cob lights. Their first one, the 150bi, came with a remote instead. But Ulanzi is so great, love that you feature their stuff so regularly 👏
I just recently bought a zv e10 and a sigma 30mm f1.4 so i could persue the filming dream ,i promise to watch all your videos so i can be where you at or even better .All love from zimbabwe@one last number
I've been a subscriber since 2016. You and Creative Ryan were my go-to channels and since then I've obtained my Bachelors Degree in Multimedia and registered my freelance LLC, and could definitely benefit from the Smallrig car mount for future documentary shoots.
Found this video for inexpensive gear, but damn that was a good story to hear. Thanks for sharing man! Always good to hear what makes us and breaks us, it brings us together through shared experiences. Great Video!
Thanks for sharing your story , there are a lot of people out there who need to know they don't have to give up even if all is pointing in that direction
That story was very timely for me and my current filmmaking/photography journey. Definitely trying to stand on foundational business and push my ideas forward while simultaneously being unemployed as wild as hell but I will push through. And all of the equipment that you reviewed is all things that I know I will need in the near future thus this info is great too. Keep doing your thing, boss.
@lewiart I have a sony lav kit that cost $600 but picked up a Hollyland M1 last black Friday and honestly was so impressed at what you get for the price. Going to pick up another one next month. Just so easy to use. I actually use it with my Black Magic pockets through the XRL input.
thanks for doing the legwork on these! I really think everyone should run, not walk, to get those $30 lights. Nothing wrong with having a cheap light you can throw any where and not worry about it getting destroyed. Especially one with so many options!
Love the vid fam. That light wand might be the move. I've also had some shoots like that. Left those clients, models, and collaborators in the past and never looked back. Stay up.
@jadeisher firstly, I love your content AND that you’re close to my neck of the woods shooting a lot of your BTS and B-ROLL, I would really LOVE a car mount!! 💚
I don't do instagram but I am a long time follower and love your insight. Also, we both came up in Atlanta so I have huge love the work and wisdom you share on this platform.
i've actually been looking lately for some lights and mics but it's so hard to find something affordable and good because all the gear shops keep pushing the popular brands and the less popular ones tend to go into a backlog with very few reviews
@essdc I remember trying to find a part of a car body that I could safely gaff tape a GoPro Hero 3 packaging base to and get an exterior car hyper-lapse with-without ruining the paint… suction cup is way nicer, lol.
I felt your story. I’ve suffered similar experiences. Shooting music videos nowadays is not it, but for the love of filming I’ll shoot it. That Ulanzi light would be a nice fit for my setup, portable. no power cord of batteries needed.🤩🔥🎥🎬💯
I was waiting for you to say you got robbed honestly tho happy you didn't. I did a job once and someone stole my phone out my hoodie pocket as I was walking to set with a box of lights a tripod and a camera bag and honestly that was my low point.
Dude, Love your video's. Have loved them for a while. I dont watch all the time. But when I do, I always love your style. I came for some fun gear ideas and I love how you got me to stay for your story. And So relatable too.. Ben there done that. Literally! My car used to be a piece of sh*t too haha. Now my car is upgraded but I still feel that ''Should I Quit?'' feeling a lot. But you inspired me to be positive again man. So thanks for sharing! You are more proof that it can be done if you stay positive! Much love!
@2winvisuals always wanted a car mount for my a7siii but I've always been hesitant on which ones are good or not, smallrig has always been a solid brand so maybe it is trustworthy haha. Those car mount shots go so crazy in music videos.
Niceeeeeee you’ve been one of my biggest inspiration. I appreciate your skill set and general knowledge. Ive been wanting to try the suction cup mount / mic system

I've been where you were happy to hear that story also like that you took a Philip Bloom approach to gear review.
I was waiting for you to say you got robbed honestly tho happy you didn't.
I did a job once and someone stole my phone out my hoodie pocket as I was walking to set with a box of lights a tripod and a camera bag and honestly that was my low point.
Thank you! I watch a lot of your Filming videos. Definitely encouraged.
Very cool video and inspiring story! Glad you stuck with it! 😎🤘
Appreciate this style of review. Also planning to get out my studio and start recording, so the wireless mic review was clutch.
I like the reviews! Being a new film student the information is very helpful, thanks!
@dicethemann, i got the telesin suction cup mount you recommended in one of your previous videos, testing it out on a music video this friday.
