    1. Use repair kit, still drips unless super tight.
    2. Crack the knob because of cranking on it to stop dripping.
    3. Replace knob and entire stem factory assembled
    4. Crack another knob because of the same drip
    5. Try a final full stem
    6. Same drip, Install a whole new faucet

    One of the best coverages of the repair of an anti-siphon frost-free sillcock. I appreciate the info that reinforced what I'd surmised, although I've never had one of these apart before. My problem is I don't know where the shutoff for this water line is; unlike the other two faucets, my leaky one has no easily accessed shutoff with air valve for draining. It's likely in the crawlspace under the house if there is one at all. I will have to shut down the main house valve in the garage.
    My next issue is determining what brand and model of faucet it is. It is brass with a hexagonal plastic green cap on the frost-free device, and has a green metal spoke handle. It was installed upon the construction of our house in 1994. The faucet body is stamped with ABP on one side and USA on the other.

      We are pleased that you enjoyed our video! In regards to the brand of your faucet, ABP stands for Arrowhead Brass Products. Therefore, they would be the appropriate manufacturer to contact in regards to replacement parts. Thank you!

    Great video with very clear instructions. I have followed the procedure and all the leaking has stopped. The other thing that bothered me was the faucet squeaking when turning the handle. I have lubed the washers/gaskets with plumbers silicone grease, It still squeaks. Should I lubricate the stem around the threads?

    • @PrierProducts
      @PrierProducts  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the note. The squeaking is more than likely coming from the threads in the back. The metal on metal will do that sometimes. Over the years, the water can help subside the squeaking, but it can be very annoying. Yes, putting plumbers grease on the threads will help with this and can prevent the squeaking. Go ahead and add to the threads, just don’t glob it on to prevent it from interfering with the seat washer on the back end.

    Nice instructions.. however, despite my Prier frost-free hose bib being only about 4 years old (and I'm not sure why it started dripping so soon either), when I went to unscrew the bib using the plastic handle (after having unscrewed the plastic hub as per video instruction) the plastic handle split - it wasn't strong enough to break free the threads. Is there any chance Prier would send me a replacement? Its a 10" frost-free, 1/2" threaded end, hose bib. I would recommend two things: (1) steel handle, and/or (2) instructions can suggest you use a hose bib tool to break the threads free.

    • @PrierProducts
      @PrierProducts  4 роки тому +1

      That's a tough spot to be in but there are two things you can do. Try to use a pair of needle-nose pliers. Push it in that space between the stem end and the nut. You could expand it to apply pressure on the nut while you turn it. Might help to have a rubber band wrapped around it as well to give it something to stick to when you turn. It. But for the most part, if it is broke, you can use a hammer and screwdriver to break up the rest of the nut. Just be careful to not damage the threads underneath.

    I ordered the Mansfield 500 Series Stem 123-0094 replacement, and the Mansfield 630-8500 Complete Repair Kit. I have the old right hand threaded style. Everything is assembled and in place, but it seems the last step is impossible? The screw seems too short and will not reach the stem through the handle. Is it possible the kit I purchased had the wrong screw or was missing it altogether? I think I remember the screw from the original handle being longer. I wish I knew what I did with it. I do not want to ruin the new stem or the integrity or the seal or the packing nut by trying to push the handle on, but it seems like that is the only way the screw will catch? What size screw is proper? And do I tighten the packing nut all the way to the shoulder, basically as far as it can go?

    • @nickmanning4129
      @nickmanning4129 8 років тому

      The screw is likely the same as you took out, I don't believe the screw length has changed. As you look at your valve without the handle, is the stem about flush with the end of the packing nut? If so, then the installation is likely correct.
      There may be some variation with the end form of the new stem than the older one. I would use some vegetable oil to see if that can help it install on to the stem a little deeper, allowing the screw to work.

    I ordered the repair kit, replaced all the washers and it is still leaking out the packing nut when the faucet is turned on, doesn't leak when turned off though. I'm wondering if I have the o-ring on the packing nut in the wrong place? It's the white nut. Does it go all the way back to the shoulder of the nut or to the undercut just past the threads? I tried it first at the undercut by the threads but it would not go into the faucet with it in that position. Also the stem does not have that spring function you show in the video, might it be stuck?

    • @PrierProducts
      @PrierProducts  8 років тому

      Michael, if you believe your Mansfield style hydrant was manufactured prior to 2006 and it has a vacuum breaker, the stem will be spring loaded. It could very well be stuck and causing the leak you described. I would suggest putting some plumbers grease on the spring and ensuring it moves in and out freely. In regards to the packing nut, the o-ring goes in the deepest/widest ridge. Just below the shoulder, as you described, is correct. If the faucet continues to leak, you may need to replace the stem completely due to the age of the hydrant. Feel free to shoot us an email at sales@prier.com or give us a call at 800-362-9055 and I would be happy to help you with the correct part number. Thank you!
