    My son thanks you! Your video gave me the courage to attempt this. Unfortunately, the sockets I got from China seemed to be designed for multiple thru holes, but I adjusted. Your video gave me the impression that the four pads other than the mounts didn't need to be soldered. I may need to watch it again, but they all needed solder. Thanks again.

    I am not going to endorse spending 10$ on materials and 2 hours trying to figure out how to take everything apart, desolder and solder the charging port and put it all back together correctly, when you can easily snag a working DSI, DSLite for 13-15$. I do however, endorse the quality of this instructional video it honestly covers all the important stuff and I loved the little trick where you cut the malfunctional charger port in half to desolder it one solder pad at a time making removal a lot easier !!!!

    this helped me a lot, so thank you!. But I found what you said about we don't need the 2 points at the back connected is false. It is actually those 2 points that need connection. The front 2 legs are just legs for structural support. Actual connection happens at these 2 points at the back. I think yours worked because they touched nonetheless. I had to solder them.

    lmao a few years back i got some guy in Bangladesh (my dad was visiting there) to solder on a circular port to my DSI XL that recently broke. Gonna see if my uncle has a solder iron (I think he does somewhere), thanks for this video! Gotta get those pictures and the two brain games i got with it (used ds perks, free apps lol)

    • @TalonTheRetroGamer
      @TalonTheRetroGamer  7 років тому +1

      Not as far as I know. I don't think it was a flaw in how it was made, just whoever owned it before I did just didn't take very good care of it, judging by how dirty and rough it looks. Thanks for watching.

    This is such a helpful video. Too bad I don't have any of those tools. I hate seeing my pink nintendo DS lite and black nintendo DSi XL on my shelf all broken and useless.

    • @TalonTheRetroGamer
      @TalonTheRetroGamer  6 років тому +3

      Thanks. The tools for this job aren't all that expensive, to be honest. You just need a decent soldering iron and triwing screwdriver, which you could probably pick up for $20 together, and both are very useful for any jobs in the future. Also, I see you subscribed, so welcome to my channel!

    • @DOFT.mp4
      @DOFT.mp4 6 років тому

      Thanks :) How much does the solder cost? I might work over the summer and buy these tools. I'm surprised they're so cheap I was expecting them to be $100 in total!

    • @TalonTheRetroGamer
      @TalonTheRetroGamer  6 років тому

      It's been awhile since I bought more solder, but you could probably get a small spool of solder for $10 or so. Word of advice, be sure to buy leaded solder, not lead free, work in an open, ventilated area, and be sure wash your hands after using it.

    Hi,
    You did a good job on that Pink DS. I have an issue with mine. I need to replace the card slot to play my games. It stopped working and it's not reading none of my games. I suspect it's the slot. However when I tried opening it, the screws are too tight. It looks like I messed up one of the screws already 😬. Do know of another way to get them to unscrew? I'm using the right size screw driver but they are just too tight.

    • @TalonTheRetroGamer
      @TalonTheRetroGamer  7 років тому +1

      I mean, you can drill them out with a drill, and I've had to do that as a last resort on a few electronics repairs, but it's sort of a last resort. Do the screws look at all corroded or rusted or just dirty?

  • @jakesu8264
    @jakesu8264 6 років тому

    I’m not sure if my charger is the problem or the DSi. I recently bought a used DSi and I used my old charger for it since it didn’t come with one. When I plug it in it just doesn’t accept charge. No light comes on. I am going to try going to the store tomorrow but I need to know if I need a new charger or a charging port.

      IIRC, that was my DSi did in the video before I replaced the charging port, so there's a good chance that that's what wrong with it, but I can't say for absolute certain.

      +Firaas Inamdar Good question. I would say that while technically, you probably COULD, it would likely end up being a pretty complicated mod and not as simple as just soldering on a new piece in place of the old one and calling it a day, like if you just installed a new DSi charging port. Unless you do a lot of console modding and think you're up for such a challenge, you're probably just better off buying a DSi charging port.

      +Danielle Perone Good question. The repair for the DSi is similar to the one for the DS Lite, but there are differences in where the screws are and where the charging port is soldered in. You mean that little black piece with three prongs sticking out of it has broken off of that smaller board (battery PCB)? You could try to solder the old piece back on, but you could also just replace that whole board for $5: www.ebay.com/itm/Power-Board-D-Pad-PCB-Nintendo-DSi-NDSi-OEM-Original-C-TWL-SUB-01-OEM/112932651752?hash=item1a4b4f82e8%3Ag%3AiBoAAOSw3Mpazn3D&_sop=15&_sacat=0&_nkw=dsi+d+pad+board&_from=R40&rt=nc&LH_TitleDesc=0%7C0
      (Note: This listing is just an example of that part. I am not affiliated with the seller in any way and cannot speak for the quality of the part or the seller's customer service. It's also up to you to make sure that the part is compatible with what you're using it in before purchase.)
