Man this makes me miss my old 1996 XP and 1999 SPX. These hulls are the most fun jetski ever. You can flip it around and it will stand up out of the water. Wish Seadoo would bring them back.
Took my 98 SPX out on Lake Superior this summer. I caught some serious air. I love my ski. Not a fan of those D.E.S.S. systems though. Wish I had a regular lanyard like what Kawasaki & Yamaha has.
I also have a 1997 Seadoo GTS with the 787. It's a big ski, 3 seater and I had it clocked with myself and 2 kids going 65. Total weight approximately 250- 300 lbs. I have owned this ski since 2014. Almost no maintenace except batteries and spark plugs. I don't fully winterize them or change the gas or oil. I spray WD-40 in the engine for the Winter and blow it out late spring. 10 years!
A 3-seater hitting 65 with you and the kids? That's impressive, mate! It's awesome you've had it since 2014 with almost no maintenance - just batteries and spark plugs. Its a tricky topic around winterisation, personally I do winterise but just because I dont de-winterise every ski out of my 9 every year, as can't ride them all and dont want them sitting... all my skis are in a climate controlled environment to avoid and issues... Thanks for watching dude 🌊🚤👊
I know right, this is exactly my point, modern PWCs have lost their essence and too big, the spark and jet blaster are abit better but nothing hits the mark like an old xp or blaster. Thanks for watching 🙏
I've got same ski all yellow 1996 ski you can have more fun on one of these than a big ski , had mine up in the air a few times carbs of being rebuilt at the moment, can't wait to get back on it , great video...
Nice man, so you have the 787 version of mine...so yours will be quicker, same X4 hull though.. I agree these old skis are just so fun to mess around on...sadly that got lost somewhere along the way... check out the spark though, that retains some of the old school fun factor.. Thanks for watching dude 🙌
I have 3 1990's Seadoo's and they don't require much work if you take care of the important stuff when you get them. Fuel lines a must, rebuild the carbs or buy new but you should still do a pop off test.My 1995 XP I switched to pre-mix. It's an important ski that isn't worth a oil pump or filter going bad that will destroy your engine. My XP is super aggresive to ride. If you weigh over 160 pounds, good luck! I have watched the most seasoned jet ski riders fall off almost immediately because they're used to the newer skis. Disclaimer: my ski's only ride in fresh water along the Delaware River. But, I have gone over 15 feet off second wake from tankers, tug boats ect. Stabbed the water at least 3 feet and came up like a bat out of hell! I also have a perfect 1995 Tiger Shark which is nimble and fun but nothing like the XP!!!!
Agree with all of your comment, the only area my mindset is slightly different is I like to keep my skis on the orginal pumps to keep the originality. Yes premix is safer but then you loose the complete OEM feel. Having 3 '90s Seadoos is awesome buddy, sounds like your having a blast! You're spot on about the maintenance - taking care of those fuel lines and carbs is key. The XPs are a blast to ride for sure, just never gets old. Watching seasoned riders fall off always perfectly illustrates my point that modern skis are so compliant to ride, a true test of rider skill is riding an old X4 fast. Fresh water on the Delaware River sounds like the perfect playground, and those 15-foot jumps off wakes - epic! The Tiger Shark sounds fun too, I don't know alot about them but defo part of the 90s history for sure, but yeah, nothing beats the thrill of the XP. Keep riding hard, dude! 🌊🚤🤙 Thanks for watching 😎✌
Megs captured me after I had technically stopped filming and that was me looking at her... love the way it just shows how much I love it... through all the planning of filming... its always the real shots that look the best. Thanks for watching dude
ha ha love that my videos spark more care for these classics... I guess the thing is how good condition they are before you are stripping them... if they're trashed then I'll let you off, but if your breaking clean examples...shame on you! Thanks for watching 🙌
I can see why… in love with this ski… I was born in 1993 so missed all the 90s fun…catching up now 😂 yes agree the handlebars grips need changed but has to be OEM and can’t find any 🤷🏻♂️
I think for sure I will start to film my videos more like this as alot of people are saying they prefer my legit first ride... even better I guess when it runs as good as it did in this video! Thanks for watching 🙌
I bought one of these this summer. Never had a jet ski before so the plan was to sell it at the end of season but then I rode it and found out about the history of these xp’s and now I want to keep it 😂 im a dirt bike guy so this ski is the perfect one for me. Mine doesn’t look too bad for being heavily used but the fact that it still runs like a top speaks for itself about those 717 motors. It starts up just as fast as yours just not as nice as yours 😂 you’re gonna have lots of fun on that thing man they’re amazing machines!
For sure keep it... I think those 717 engines go on and on if you maintain them! I have only rode mine 3 times and I'm in love with it... so so much fun, thanks for watching dude 🙌
Awesome to see the reaction as I’ve never rode an X4 but I’m sure I will someday. Excited to see you find a clean blaster 1 as I have two 1996’s that I love
Ace dude, a lot of people are saying they prefer my legit first ride reaction... must say it did not disappoint love it! So jelly of your 2x blaster 1s... I want to find a clean one so bad... talk to me about the riding characteristics dude? Thanks for watching 🙌
IMO you shouldn't be needing to rebuild every year but do hear you on running/maintenance costs. It's understandable how maintenance costs can add up. They're a blast to ride but can require more frequent upkeep. Hopefully, you have fond memories of your time with it. Thanks for watching dude ✌😎
I think after moving them around for so long, we are pretty used to it at this point... dead lifting them back on from the ground is harder but still doable... Thanks for watching dude
I love my 99 GSX Ltd also, such a fun hull to ride… I have to say though the X4 hulls are funnier to ride… that said the 951 in the gsx is much faster than this 717… I want to ride a 787 96 xp to see the difference between a 951 gsx and 96 xp 787 thanks for watching 👍🙌
Yeah. I think I'm giving up on cars and switching to all marine. Love the idea of skis because I can get one in the garage and have loads of space to tinker. And....there are no speed limits on the water, and the penalty for crashing while not zero, is a lot less than say a moto bike.
For sure marine has more freedoms and the sense of freedoms on the water is far greater… the barrier to entry is a lot lower which is a good and bad thing I guess. Thanks for watching dude 🙏
Can’t believe you was in the Solent , I would have got my XP DI up and running, still haven’t had time to get her out this year, over the winter I’m going to fix her up to new hopefully, and yes, I wear undies under me wetsuit 😂😂
I know that's mad that its your way... love the Solent and will be back in the near future for sure... I actually went out on my XPDI yesterday and it ran like a dream... 62 all day long! love the DI power and pick up... Get your Di sorted dude.. thanks for watching 🙌
Hello seadoo lovers did you know? This XP is a 2nd edition of the 1995 xp? How can realize that? Look the tow hook on the front the first edition is a metal hook and it is outside of the hull, and the second edition is a yellow plastic hook inside the front hull
Interesting stuff, I did notice on my earlier SP and 1st gen XP it is just a basic metal hoop... whilst the plastic covers look nicer, alot crack over time. Thanks for the info dude. Thanks for watching 👌
Lol I know right, it would be fair to say I did not truly know how good they are until I got one and as you can see, its kind of hard to hide the excitement. I have to say I love the X4 and this 717 for outright playful fun factor, but if I want outright performance I will still reach for the 951 as for me in terms of balance between speed and riding characteristic, the likes of a GSX ltd does it all...jumps well, turns well and goes like a train... 63-65mph... the 717 is about 50-53mph... that 10mph makes a big difference... I think I need to give the 787 a go to see if this bridges the gap. Thanks for watching 👌
aha love this... glad watching my video has sparked this desire to buy another... lets face it new gen is great but its just different.. the newer skis are fun but never going to be a light weight playful XP... the closest thing I have rode to your GTR is a GTI 170 new gen and that for me was fun but immediately missed my 951 GSX... the new GTR 300 for 2024 is supposed the most powerful and most playful hull for modern day isn't it... for me though I want them to do the spark x with 130hp or 170hp... then its new gen plus old gen playfulness... thanks for watching dude 👌👌 get that xp bought
@@classicjetskis you can always buy a spark, then modify it, which would be a great series. i think the seadoo spark hull is almost identical to the seadoo xp
