NOT RIDDEN FOR 17 YEARS! I found an Iconic X4 Hull Seadoo XP | Seadoo XP 717cc 1995 | Ep1

- Ok so as far as iconic Seadoos go, the X4 hulls are legendary in the enthusiast community. Everyone I have ever spoken to about classic Seadoos has always raved and begged me to find an X4 hull, claiming its one of the best handling skis of the 90s.
The thing is though, as is the case with all sort-after classics, they are super hard to find in clean shape, as typically these X4 hulls were either raced to death, or moded the hell out off. Now you guys know me, If I’m going to buy a classic it’s got to be super clean for me to entertain it. The issue with finding an X4 hull was I’ve literally only ever seen 3 examples, all of which were in bad shape. Now I know you guys will all point out, this is the 717 not the XP800, but an X4 is an X4 in my book and trying to find a 1995 XP800 will likely take years of waiting to find one, which isn’t out of the question but I wanted to get myself on an X4 now, to experience what makes the X4 so special.

👀Guys if you enjoyed this video, check out this super clean Blaster 2 I bought: ua-cam.com/video/cmJtNYwBy58/v-deo.html&ab_channel=ClassicJetskis
I have a 95 SPI that we bought new. Still runs as good as the day we bought it and is the most fun trick riding ski. The ability to spin and the control is amazing.
Man this is truly epic… love hearing these story’s… so cool that you have owned it from new and she’s still running sweet… if you ever want to sell it you know where I am 😂😉 thanks for watching and supporting 🙏
@@classicjetskis it sat for 14 years but I have a neighbor like you and last spring I got her to him and he went through the entire skin and she runs like new. The lake neighbors hat we we ride it backwards. Sit on the nose facing the rear…it’s a blast.
@@walleyechannel That's ace that you were able to recommission it and had someone to go through it...that's what keeps these classics going...good work dude... glad your now enjoying it, that's epic!
@@classicjetskis our neighbors don’t like it when we sit on the nose and ride it backwards and take it almost underwater. They don’t get it. They try to tell me I’m reckless driving. I tell them I’m a professional. These new seadoo three seat first time wave runners don’t understand how agile mine is at the h.p. Range
that's class, love your attention to detail, especially when he was filling it back up again and you and your dad watching fuel get dripped, I finally got my GTX, I know its not a classic but the love for the classics is there, I find it amazing that he kept that for 17 years without riding it, great to see you taking it on, look forward to seeing it on the water.
Thanks man, appreciate the support and noticing the importance of being diligent when looking at these skis. In the past when I first started, I would go look at these skis, even the not great ones and let my emotions over rule my logic...its vital to pick up on everything, even the small things, as they can be the difference between spending a fortune or not in the long run. Hope you're enjoying your new GTX...It may not be technically a classic right now as its new, but give it 20 years and it will be interesting to see how we look back on the current gen. Thanks for watching dude ✌✌
Fun Fact: you can call your local BRP dealer and ask if there are any recalls on that ski (there are). You'll have to give them the HIN number and they'll swap in a brand new fuel tank.
Really...if this is really the case, that's epic! its such an annoying thing you have to always change... I'm going to give this a try...that said new gen dealers never want to help us old 2 stroke folk lol...Thanks for the advice though man ✌✌
@@classicjetskis it’s a safety recall put out by BRP years ago. They may fight you on it but if you call BRP directly they’ll help you more than the dealer will.
@@jetskirehab750 gotta...I will try my luck...thanks again for the suggestion...much appreciated
Please update if this works
@@dannyv2335 So far messaged a number of dealers and so far so good...the part is available, they are just trying to work out if its the new retro fit part or the original, as if its the original it will happen again... Will keep you posted
I love your videos man. Just picked up 2 fresh 96 Xps and they are mint! Thanks for the help.
Thank you dude! Epic, congrats on the 1996 XPs, I want a clean 1996 or 1995.5 or SPX 1999 so bad as love my 717, so a 787 would be insane! Thanks for watching dude 😊
Love that ski. Had many of them even solt the last one in 2013 Those are the best jumpers en playtime skis ever.
Nice man, yes I love all XP period but super excited about this x4 hull find.. Thanks for watching dude ✌✌
This channel is slept on. Content and quality are some of the best out there as far as Jetski channels go. Can’t wait to watch the series. I have a 96 xp800!
Really appreciate that man, give it time and hopefully my channel continues to get discovered so more people can see the content. Lucky boy the 96 xp900 is stunning...controversial opinion but I think the 96 with the mirror pods is nicer looking than the 95 xp800 without 🤔
Slept on for sure. Lowkey just discovered it and man am I glad I did!
@@jakewyler1945 Thank you really appreciate that ✌✌
I take my 1996 GTX out to the lake and have fun with it. I had no idea people are out there who preserve these machines. Mines been in the family since new. My dad bought 2 1996 GTXs on a double place trailer. We ride them all summer on a fresh water lake. I'm going to have to start taking better care of them.
Here in the UK clean examples are not regular as you guys over there… but when you find one, boy is it sweet… 1000% though if you have 1 owner skis and they’re in good shape, their value is only going up… the rarity factor is a big deal… more so here but also your side… Like you though my machines are rode and enjoyed… one of the reasons I have 8 is just so I can rotate and keep the hours low lol… thanks for watching and supporting dude 🙏
@@classicjetskis Thanks for the reply! I'll be out this weekend, giving these old Skis a power wash and wax. I bet they will clean up really nice. Never had any major issues with them. During covid, my dad and I replaced all the rubber hoses and the fuel valve.
@@cub1009 nice man, glad I sparked a realisation of what you have 😍 please send me some pics of it including the engine.. I would love to see the condition seeing as you have owned them since new… not sure if you follow me on Instagram or Facebook, but drop me some pics on there 🙏
My friends and I have three identical 96 xp and a friend with a 97 spx. You can can say we enjoy our summers together.. You need to get your hands on a 787 motor. Its night and day from the 717
787 96 Its freakin great
Oooor.... slap a 951 in there!
That's ace man...lucky boys...the XP800 from everything I have read are clearly the more desirable ski but with that said, there are very few in the condition that I'm looking for in the UK...Plus for me the 717 was the first X4 hull...the 1995 xp800 was released later in 1995, hence why its missing from all the initial 95 promo material...therefore the 717 actually has a great rarity value from what I can see...but for surrre I will find a xp800 at some point....now I have the OG 3rd gen XP717 I think I would lean more towards getting a later 90s SPX as they are essentially still the X4 hull but year on year had refinements, which means you would be getting the best of the earlier 800 x4 but refined...I love the look of the 1999 spx as they brought back the og hump seat from 1995 xp800... The only thing is, is the spx model as iconic as the xp...tough one
@@cdanosdrums4966 👍👍 can't disagree
@@kyletrump8025 aha now that would be a weapon!
first video for me and a new sub.. This video was done amazingly. How do you only have 838 subs ? Mind blowing. You deserve way more.
Thanks man, really glad you enjoyed it and appreciate the work that goes into making these videos...the good news is this video seems to be popping off...now on 869 subs so I'm getting good traction on this ski...I was sure the X4 hull would do great...really happy you guys like it. Thanks for watching and supporting 👌👌
That sound from the pump, I don't think the anti-rattle spring til 97.
I have since fitted an anti rattle and it is night and day... I know its a small thing and a normal noise, but I love how clean it sounds with one on. Thanks for watching 👌
Great video! Are you concerned about engine hours when purchasing? How are you checking if no hour meter?
Thanks! Engine hours are definitely something to consider when buying a jet ski. If there's no hour meter, there are a few ways to estimate usage. Check the compression first and foremost. You can check for signs of wear and tear on the exterior and interior, inspect the condition of components like the pump and engine, and listen for any unusual sounds during a test ride. It's also helpful to ask the seller about maintenance records and how frequently the ski has been used. These steps can give you a good idea of the ski's overall condition and usage history. Thanks for watching and supporting dude 🙌💪
Just picked up one that's the same color scheme except rougher, cool to see what it could be
Nice man, congrats! 👌 great timing with the summer coming dude 🌊thanks for watching 🙏
I'm rocking a 1995 xp 800 she's not mint but good condition and very fun
love it keep it coming!!!!!!!!
Thank you, really appreciate the support 😊😊
Hahahhaa is old no new 😂😂😂😂😂😂 crazyy new ones are at the dealership
🤔🤔🤔🤔
I love the old yellow xp
Yeh the yellow just works so well… to be fair all of the 90s neon colours are so good… thanks for watching dude 🙏
Do you know what the minimum you can get a decent second hand jet ski for? I want to get one for going on river but unsure what ski to look out for. Do you know any that are easy to repair and don't sell for a lot? I understand it's probably a hard question to answer. Thanks
Without wanting to sound smart...how long is a piece of string... there are so many things that play into what you can pay for a ski, from the type of owner you're buying from, to time of year (out of season is always better as no one wants to buy skis) to condition of the ski... if you're prepared to rebuild and do a lot of work on an older ski, you can pick them up as low as £400-500 but keep in mind, you will be putting at least 1-1.5k into it, to get it right IMO... I always advise finding an up together older ski that has been loved and paying a little bit more... if you find the right owner and deal, I have picked up clean skis for as low as £1250 (1991 xp twin carb). Everything has gone up in price, thus even for 2nd hand old skis, owners want more... in terms of easy old 2 strokes to work on... you cant go wrong with the 1995 717 x4... that ski is so much fun and easy to work on... there is a tone of parts out there also... however you mentioned going up the river... you might want a little more power so maybe the GS GSI... the 951 GSXL is amazing but more work to maintain.
Hopefully thats helpful dude... thanks for watching and supporting my channel 👍
@@classicjetskis That's brilliant info and I appreciate the advice. Thanks and I hope you have a great weekend. Take care.
Why is it important to start a jet ske before turning the water on
Starting the water flow before you start the engine could result in that water flowing into the engine combustion chamber through the exhaust.
There is a tonne more info in the owner manual…🙏
Thanks for watching dude 🙏
Hey my buddy has the Crown Jewel of SEADOO's. 1995 limited production Racing XP 800 with about 15 hours on it. He is also a collector so I don't think he'll sell it. If you're interested I can put you in touch with him.
OF COURSE!!! dude please do this, would be epic...it goes without saying if he does wanna sell it, he can see I'm serious about buying old skis and looking after them...
beautiful❤
Thank you 👍👍✌✌
Very well done videos, great content. Fellow classic owner as well.
BUT are you going to name them all? (I think you should)
95 GTX 657x 'Shadynasty' is her name.
96 XP 800 'Gail the Snail' is her name.
Thank you, that means alot dude...glad you enjoyed the video and appreciate the effort that goes into making these videos.... Aha name them all..the only one that has a name (and a pretty un original one at that) is the Blaster 2, me and the misses call it blastiiii... however to be fair all our classics are just oddly called 'beeks' for us' or 'jet beeks'... odd internal naming... Love your names though...two great skis you have aswell btw 👌👌
Awesome
Thanks dude, thanks for watching 🙌
The best of these is the fully yellow one. Got 110hp insteat of this 80 or 90 hp. Still frikking fast
I know dude the xp800 is obviously top of the food chain but this 717 in my book is pretty close... crazy to think the new gen spark is only 90 hp...
@@classicjetskis ever float a spark? Its almost the same. Like a xp its hard to keep up the speed its only jumping. I do have a rxp right now the same for the last 10 years :)
great content ! , i have an waveblaster 2 what websites do you use for yamaha parts?
Thanks man, appreciate that 🙏 the blaster 2 is epic… so glad I found one! Parts are tricky, I normally either use eBay, normally from the us or Facebook marketplace and look for breaker units… you sometimes can get lucky and get new old stock on some of the retailer sites… really is luck a lot of the time. Thanks for watching dude 🙏
Those things are everywhere I just threw two away
You are also in the US my friend, every ski is easier to come across your side of the pond, from what I can see on FB in the US aha...in the UK its a different story... not many examples in general of the X4 hulls, let alone ones that have been kept for 17 years... just checked out your channel...good work, keep it up dude...thanks for watching 👍👍
Would you be interested in my 1996 XP? It has been dry stored since i bought it. Very low hours use on it
Can you send me pics including the engine bay on Facebook or Instagram. Thanks dude 🙏
Dime a dozen in Canada Ontario man !
Good to know, thanks for watching 👍
Wow!! you find some nice stuff
Thanks man… to be honest I search a lot and have been looking for most models on my bucket list for years… I also jump on skis when they come up as they are gone fast otherwise… thanks for watching dude 🙏
Jesus if this was my i keep it.
Good job it’s not yours then 😉 already spent £1500 on it, it’s easy to watch and think why is he so thorough, but it’s because I know what standard I’m looking for and I know what I will end up spending. I guess that’s why I have 8 of the cleanest skis left around and others don’t 🤷🏻♂️ thanks for the view and watching
bro i thought you wouldve had like 300k subs
Thanks dude, really appreciate that...one day man, give me time
Low ball him 😅
Since spent 2k on her so I paid what it was worth… thanks for watching dude 🙏
Sooooooooo, how much did you pay????? 🤷🏻♂️
That is the question, its only fair if you have a good guess first...anyone?

Thank you, welcome 😊😊
I have a shop manual for this ski
Love it... that's epic dude...I love when a ski comes with the OEM booklets, as these are typically even harder to find than the ski 😂 Thanks for watching dude 🙌
U guys are funny goofy lmao
Thanks for watching and the view, glad you enjoyed it
I have a 97 xp and 97 xps sprinloaded if anyone is interested asking 4500 for both with double trailer
Sounds interesting, sadly I have 0 room left at the moment...Megs would kill me... send me a pic though on Instagram..
I just subscribed to your channel. After what you being you very carefully that wasn’t nice.
Thanks for subscribing buddy
I just cut up a 1995 XP for parts, it was really rough, check my channel to see it
Do you have the OEM grips? I would buy them if they’re in good shape?
Not from this ski, but I part out lots of them and sell parts on eBay. I may have some in my hoard, were the original grips black?
@@SeaDooEric wicked… they are the purple ones… if you have a pair you would be a legend 🙏
@@SeaDooEric what’s your eBay store called, send me a link dude
I usually have a lot more parts than what is listed. I part the skis in the winter and list the parts in springtime and through the summer. I’ll check for purple grips on Sunday when I get home
Jesus christ yall nic pic the hell outta that ski. Like your looking for a museum piece or buying the ski brand new from a dealer. I hope you paid top dollar and didn't lowball the seller for that excellent condition ski
I love to 'nit pic' thats why I have 9 pristine examples in the garage, in order to make a clean classic super clean is to have an eye for detail. IMO if you're looking at a 30 year old ski and not being this diligent, then you're asking for trouble... Do you know how hard it is to get the OEM parts, if so you would understand why I'm so fussy. I'm out here buying 2 strokes multiple times a year and when I buy them I put thousands into restoring them, this example you may think was clean but since buying it, its been fully stripped and gone through, just because the cosmetic looks nice, you still need to go through them. I am looking for museum pieces, so glad you noticed. Thanks for watching ✌
@classicjetskis would be cool to see you nit pic and rebuild a late 90s tigershark Daytona or an old school stand up ski
Hey am from the United state if I would have been that seller I would have told you to go you know where. Your to picky that’s a 20 year old ski
Thanks for watching… I love being picky that’s a compliment to me 👌 it’s why I have one of the cleanest classic collections you will find… there was a whole section covering why I’m picky in the video, did you miss that dude…
