The storied Specialized Stumpjumper EVO-arguably the most famous mountain bike model in the history of our sport-is back for 2021, and the newest incarnation feels more refined and adjustable than ever before. With a headtube angle that’s adjustable from 65.5 degrees all the way down to 63 degrees, and a bottom bracket with height adjustability from 32 millimeters of drop to a ground-hugging 39 millimeters of drop, the new Stumpjumper EVO Expert we tested comes with multiple geometry options that can radically change its personality on a wide variety of terrain.

These are easily the best reviews out there at the moment.
100% agreed
Bikers Edge!
I've watched this video 20 times now, 19 before I got my Stumpy Evo and now again after I've ridden it myself. This review is just as amazing as the bike! The excitement and enjoyment of his ride had me so giddy to get my own. And I was dead set on a Ripmo, which is an incredible bike, but this Stumpy is unreal. Smiles for days.
What is the difference between the evo version of this bike and the other version (the expert)?
@@googlyboogly1060 The relevant distinction is between the regular Stumpjumper (Specialized’s all-around, mid-travel trail bike) and the Stumpjumper Evo (same frame material, but beefier, higher travel, slacker head angle, adjustable geometry, different pivot design, meant for all-mountain use and more aggressive descents). “Expert” refers only to the build level (ie spec). Below Expert is Comp (lower end components) and above Expert are Pro, S-Works (higher end components).
I need this guy to give me riding lessons, he's so FAST
“It’s that time of year where I need to wipe the lenses”.....immediate mud center screen 😂😂 Best reviews out there!!! Period!!
Really enjoyable, informative yet accessible reviews 👌 What boggles my mind, however, is the fact that this guy can ride THAT fast while talking coherently 😲
I originally thought you sped up the video, but after watching the full review, it’s obviously just pure skill.
Thoroughly entertaining and informative every time. Great reviews
you make the best reviews out there; no bullshit, just riding. The bike looks cool, I wouldn't have expected that the 2021 Stumpjumper Evo can be better than the previous but they nailed it!
For me one of the best yt bike channels, love your work and love that kind of bike reviews
Great reviews. Every time I want the bike you are testing. Makes it difficult to choose. There are so many awesome bikes. Plus, I can’t wait to get up to Bellingham soon.
Love your reviews! Top notch footage and feedback. I’d like to see some sort of direct comparison at some point!
Dude you need to upload more bike vids. Best reviews out there without a doubt!!👌
can't like all these reviews enough !!! Much Thanks !!!
One of the best bike reviews I’ve ever watched. After this review I’m praying my local bike store can find one in my size. Man that looked FUN. 😅
always a fan of your reviews!!
Love these vids.. Not only because of the bikes but they he rides and reviews👌
Best reviews. I love watching these.
the Chuckanuts are so good!!!!! love the review you guys rock
That downhill pov was just perfect, best pov footage i think i’ve ever seen and it didn’t have the gopro effect
Great review! Track looks so fun! 🔥🔥
Impressed once again. Thank you!
damn you're fast on those descents.
my eyes can't even pick out where the singletrack is most of the time, especially on the quick twitchy turns.
nice video!
Great review buddy, thanks.
Best reviews out there!Keep it up☺️
Love the channel/reviews.
How does Spencer manage to burst through these greasy corners w/ lightning speed? Seriously impressed 💥
Great video! Great format
I was watching Pinkbike’s review of the same bike and fell asleep 2 minutes in. When I woke up I looked up your review.
Great review. Buying one!
Your footage is crazy good! Could you make a video explaining your setup?
I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these!
Came here to parrot what everyone else keeps saying; these reviews are THE BEST ones out right now! They made me subscribe to this channel. Don't change a thing with the way you put these together! Except maybe a wipe on the camera, lol
haha, 7:30min in or so, narrator fixes it only to have it happen a minute later!
Two wheels one love 🤙 Ty sir, for the ride
Keen to hear your comparative thoughts on the New Stumpy 2021.... I'm torn at the moment
Love the reviews, Spencer! How difficult was it to swap the geometry?
10 minutes for each swap out. It’s a pretty clean system!
The best reviews by this guy.
Love the Evo series...best bikes Specialized makes
This made me pull the plug on one. I couldn’t be happier with it.
I my self have an evo. I must say its the most fun Bike I ever had. Also here in the Alps this Bike can handle it all.
Awesome review, best for the new Evo. Great rinding! What‘s your favorite HA setting? 63,5° seems pretty slack...
Those colours 😍
those colors looks very silly
Great review as always! What kind of shoes are you wearing? Cheers!
Well this ride review tells me the Evo frame I just bought can handle anything I throw at it in the PNW! Stoked to pound some rooty steeps with it once it's built up!
How fast is this guy when he isn't giving a super entertaining review and talking through every aspect of the bike?
spencer is awesome, i bought the evil wreckoning base on spencer's review.lol
Everything you’ve described about this bike reminds me of my 2021 Norco Sight. Same travel, very similar geometry - any first hand comparisons between them?
Great review! How does this compare to the Pivot Switchblade? Which is more jibby and fun on a trail that is mostly short ups and downs?
In the low and slacker settings did you still find the bike poppy with the longer chain stay? Awesome reviews by the way. 👌🏼
Would you recommend the 2020 Evo Pro or the 2021 Evo Expert? There's a sale so they're similar price. Wondering if the carbon wheels, coil suspension, and code RSC brakes are worth it over the adjustable geometry and increased travel. Great review by the way!
Nice! Hilarious how often water or mud finds that one spot... :)
Nice review!! How would you compare it against the switchblade?
Another great video, I'll rate it 2nd to Hunter's & Miles video ;)
I’m thinking about picking one up, but it’d be over biking for my daily rides in the hopes of coming in clutch when I need it on the steeps. How does it pop, and is it less planted compared to the old EVO?
You should check out that new Propain Spindrift with the 190 ZEB, It's classified as a "modern freeride" bike.
Love the reviews. Pretty much sold on this bike, then watched your evil wreckoning review and it’s totally screwing that up 😂
this bike looks so cool, thanks for reviewing! i wish they made an alloy version, I really want to the customizability but in a cheaper package.
I've never been this early lol
Ikr, It was just a few hundred dollars above my budget. Perfect bike everything I want.... I'm sooooo sad I can't get it
@@romanmorales515 haha lucky, for me its a few thousand over my budget lol
@@ultimatepu5h yeah I have the money technically... But my parents would NOT be happy
@@zacg2953 yeah I'm super lucky, I just happen to buy an Amazon stock at 900$ a few years back.
Also I know for a fact that I am very very fortunate and spoiled af...
@@romanmorales515 wow, thats awesome! yeah for me I'm still at the age where I cant legally get a job and the only time I get and money to buy a bike is Christmas and my birthday, and I wasnt smart enough to invest ;( haha. good luck with saving up to whatever bike you purchase!
So how does it feel when trying to pop, boost and hop it around on the trail? Will it be a friend to playful riders or will it be headstrong trying to convince you to charge in stead?
I wanna know how many KOMs this guy has on strava haha. After this review idk if I want the Enduro or the Stumpjumper now...
Am debating on the evo comp alloy or the evo expert. Which would you prefer? Great review by the way. Just stumbled across your vids, and it’s crazy how you can carry out the review while just completely shredding like that haha 👌🏼
I have an Evo comp it's carbon lesser spec. Did you get one?
Did you get one?
Did you get one?
Think you tested the new Rocky altitude. How do you compare the climbing and descending?
where do you ride?
How much ascent vs descent is there?
i assume its near bellingham because youve mentioned it before. i live just down in portland. there's lots of great riding down here but washington is like the holy grail for mtb trails
I THINK he rides Galbraith a lot on the shorter travel bikes, and I think I see bits of Chuckanut in this, but I've only ridden it once and it was a year ago.
Would the 2020\1 PIVOT SWITCHBLADE beat this bike in every aspect? Climbing, sprinting, descending, tight turns, NOT destroyer of pedals and cranks, flat surfaces, roots, rock gardens, etc. overall quality, quality control...
What do you think of this vs the Ibis Ripmo V2? I can get the deore spec Ripmo with a factory 36 and factory X2 for about $50 more than the Stumpy Evo
Nice, where is that trail located at ?
How does it compare to the Sentinel V2?
This or Evil Offering or Driud or SB130LR? For SingleTrack, natural trails and having fun.
Is there going to be an Aluminum version with a swat box?
How does this compare to the Stumpjumper expert? I’m deciding between the two and am wondering if this is a lot harder to climb on than the expert?
Awesome review 💯
What trails were you on? They look amazing!
Double Black & Double Down are the trails ridden
@@freehubmag Sweet, thanks. I'll have to check them out. Another question: If I was riding primarily Galbraith and wanted the ability to occasionally take the same bike to Whistler, would you choose the Enduro or the stumpy evo?
What was your sag front and rear sag and Rear rebound set at?
Rippin!
Do you think the bike would handle any different if the front/rear suspension were both 150mm coiled suspension?
Can we install 170mm fork on this thing?
The front fork is great. Not a fan of the rear fork though😉
I doing an independent review of your reviews. I use number of whoops, gasps, full on laughing and chuckles to assess which bike is best. Its between this and the Wreckoning currently
Whoopmeter 🤘Thanks for the review
How does it compare to the 2021 Trek Slash?
Comparison with the spectral 29 cf8? Which Is the most "all-round" bike?
Compared to the new Sentinel ?
How does this compare to the Transition Sentinel you reviewed earlier this year?
What he said
Was wondering the same. I was impatient and bought the SJ Evo Expert. Comparing it to the 2019 Sentinel, the bike is PLUSH.
@@MonsterChuck I did the same mainly because the sentinel was out of stock 😂
Coming from a 180 travel bike not loving it.
Maybe with the cascade link that bumps travel to 158 It will feel better off drops to flat 🤟
@@sisufitness659 Oh dang! So you aren't liking the Evo? What are you not liking about it?
I just got mine ride wrapped and all my parts switched over so I have yet to put any time on it other than in front of the house. What I have played around on, seems like this thing is going to be killer.
Can it climb well ? Last long distance and jump hard ?
How does the stumpy compare to the slash?
how does this compare to the sight and the meta tr29
Nice review, I am going to get this bike when it becomes available of course. I have a question, I am 6'2" 215-220 lbs. I was thinking of getting S5 size and upgrading the fork to a fox 38 performance elite. Do you think it is a good idea or get it the way it comes stock with fox 36 performance elite fork?
This, megatower, hightower, or slash 8?
How does it compare to the Trek Slash?
Where is that? This trail look amazing! Would love to ride my Enduro Elite there one day
Double Black & Double Down in Bellinhgam, WA
@@freehubmag thanks!! Road trip next year!
YEAH BOI! Damn, 2021 Stumpjumper or Slash. I can't decide.
Same here
Slash, only because I became a fanboy of Trek after getting my Remedy.
Phillip1310 I agree, but I think the stumpy evo could absolutely be raced in enduro
@@connormcguire8439 enduros of 2-3 years ago were 150-160mm bikes so, let's not forget that.
Also..a bike with a HA of 63, woulnd't be exactly what I'd call a trail bike.
Ditch the Specialized! :) Get Trek Slash or Evil Wreckoning!
Seriously conidering this bike. I note you rode a large Slash and Evils. Did you think the S4 was about equal size/fit wise to those bikes? Or did it feel a tad smaller? I am 6'1" ride North Shore/Squamish trying to decide between S4 and S5 as most of our riding is technical and low to mid speed. Get the feeling the S4 is a better choice.
Which size did you buy? The. Same dilemma here
@@pavelyps679 No decsion made. Bike I was after is sold. I can get a S4/5 Elite Alu version but its 2K more than the almost equivalent spec Slash Also told prices are going WAY up on anything not in store so now between RIMPO SLX or Trek Slash
was curious. do you run tire inserts with your testing?
All the bikes we test are tested as they come spec'd from the manufacturer.
Not a bad bike for under $6,000 🔥
How tall are you and what size are you on? This review is amazing.
Reviewer Stats: 5’11” & 205 lbs & Size S4(large) bike
I’m 6’0” do you think an s5 will be to big?
What’s the max tire size for this model?
Pretty similar geometry and kinematics to the new Sentinel. Wondering about a comparison. Cheers
I finally picked up my new Sentinel and now I might be second guessing 🤷🏻♂️
@@misterplissken Honestly don't think you can go wrong with either if you have the right terrain. Geo/kinematics are really similar. Still waiting for my GX Sentinel and specs on that bike are hard to beat for the price. Wish there was a SWAT box on the Sentinel, but both seem like they're great bikes and pretty similar overall.
Liam Bansen Yeah, it’s just that feeling you get when the new new comes out in direct competition to what you just bought. Don’t get me wrong, I’m super stoked with my V2 Sentinel XT build.
Can i ask your height and weight. I'm 95kg and 186cm tall (6ft1) I was looking at an s4. Do you think an s5 may be better? Thanks
Spencer is 5' 11" & 205lbs he was riding a large (S4)
Explain this to me ... you are going insanely fast ... how do you figure out which path to take .. like hoow
Comparison to last generation Evo?
How does this compare to the Transition Sentinel V2?
I too would be interested in his thoughts on this vs Sentinel V2... Geo seems similar between them, one of these will be my next bike for sure.
right there with you two! curious to compare these two bikes climbing and descending abilities.
You can add norco sight to the list as well.
eugenux Sight and Sentinel are basically the same bike, watch the Pinkbike review of the Sentinel, Kazimer compares them at the end.
Sentinel V2 is a playful bike and I’m not a Transition fan, I’m more to Ibis, Revel and Yeti’s bikes.
Based on the Pinkbike on review of the 2021 Stumpjumper Evo, it was mentioned that for bike park days maybe a 0.86 spacer will be a better option for the shock... so this suggest this bike bottoms out harshly on big stuff. Also a 0.86 spacer is not recommended by Fox for that size of shock. I can provide the manufacturer website link to prove this.
So based on that detail it seems the rear shock of this bike needs to be replaced to be capable of competing with a Transition Sentinel V2.
Blows my mind how you can be shredding like that while talking so matter of factly...
Judging from your reactions, it seems like the Wreckoning is still the bike to beat?
Wreckoning is the bike I'm planning on getting my hands on for a test ride tomorrow; I'm interested to see how it pedals, we both know its ultra capable and has a DH soul!
@@jeffhenkel5781 so what do you think about wreckoning?
What is the length of the stem in this video?
Hey, I picked up one of these yesterday and front brake has fallen victim to the SRAM brake warble sound. Advice? Or is it unavoidable?
Congrats on the new bike! Id suggest taking it into your local bike shop to have them asses the problem.
