    Interesting to hear the difference in ride quality. I've ridden aluminum my whole life and just got my first carbon bike, the Stumpy EVO. Can't say I notice a difference in stiffness but haven't really been thinking or looking for it either. All I know is the carbon EVO has been excellent and the weight of it just makes its a better pedaler than it should be, and a bit poppier as well because the EVO plows too!! Coming from a Ripmo AF which is an excellent bike I just feel like the new Evo has been a game changer. Your review of the carbon release some time ago still makes me smile. It was pure enjoyment. I would have never considered the EVO over the Ripmo until I saw that review. Great stuff as always. Cheers!

      Thanks for your random comment.
      I have a depot on the SJ Evo AL, but I was also seriously considering the Ripmo.
      Can you expand on the "SJ Evo Game changer" comment?
      How is the SJ pedaling efficiency in comparison?
      Thanks

      @@Jgalaski8438 only a newbie will say horst link bike pedals or climbs better than a dw-link bike. Not even my local shops who sell Transition, Norco or Specialized dare to state that. The Evo will have better ground traction or ground hugging suspension and it sounds like the Fox Float X allows the bike to have pop. Of course not a Ripmo or Trek Slash pop but it’s not stuck like older generations of Stumpjumpers.

      @@pjsanab why did you have to open with an insult? Why be a dick? What do you get out of treating someone else like that?
      DW has fundamental advantages and has historically been some of, if not the most efficient bikes. As I'm not an expert on suspension design, I like keeping an open mind and although, yes, horst links are typically less efficient pedalers than DW, why have pre conceptions and possibly miss out on something..
      Example: DELTA is a single pivot design
      Single pivots were thought of as inferior to other designs such as horst, VPP and DW. And yet, DELTA is considered one of the best suspension designs out there.
      Are you knowledgeable enough in suspension design to explain to me why it is impossible for a horst link suspension type to never have better pedaling efficiency than DW? If so. I'm very interested in hearing it.
      If not, stop being a dick to a random internet stranger because they ask a question that you believe has an obvious answer.

      @@pjsanab I didn't say it wasn't your choice, it absolutely is. Why even bring that up? Is your ego that fragile that the only retort you have is "I can do what I want?"
      My question was to why? What do you gain by doing so? Does it make you feel better about yourself putting some some stranger on UA-cam? You feel good that that you have had the opportunity to test ride more bikes that I do?
      It's not about me being sensitive or such, it's about you being an asshole.

Test rode it and bought it the next day before someone else could come and swoop it. The Ripmo AF was a fun ride but once I got on the SJ Evo Alloy, I was hooked and am super happy with my decision. I remember when carbon bikes were getting popular back in 2010 and the reviews use to say carbon bikes had better ride feel because the carbon reduced harsh vibration. Now hearing this aluminum Stumpy Evo has better ride feel than its carbon equivalent makes me wonder if all those talking about carbon reducing harsh vibration was just marketing bs.

    • @corail53
      @corail53 2 роки тому +2

      Aggressive marketing will do that. The whole industry has gone back and forth on what they deemed to be best this and that etc. It's all nonsense. Hell bikes costing as much as they do know is literally because they can and then they make a 10k bike so their 5k bikes look like a bargain. The price of manufacturing their stuff is still the same, material costs haven't gone up too much so well within their margins. Carbon is cheap to build out of with the most expensive part being the machined molds and paying an engineer to move a tube .5 of a degree and calling it new so they are just making a bucket load on ignorance of the consumer.

  • @petedog9581

    I still ride my 2013 Stumpy Elite 29er alloy with the Brain/Fox Float. It is a 130mm/130mm balanced trail bike with 51mm offset. It weights 30lbs with a frame pump, water bottle and cage, and a mini tool, tire levers, and tire plug tool w bacon strips wrapped into my inner tube that is strapped to my top tube. These big carbon/alloy bikes are unnecessary for most riders who do not live in mountains or frequent bike parks. I live n Ohio so a shorter wheel base and a steeper head tube angle is better for techy and steep climbs and the steep twisty descents. It seems the industry is actually pushing bikes that are not suited for most riding environments in the name of innovation. This a great bike and I constantly get bike envy, but it is not the best bike for my current riding. Great riding as always. You an absolute beast.

      Hi Davey. The EVO is specifically designed for more aggressive riding and so would be less well suited to someone just getting into mountain biking. The extra agility and climbing ability of the shorter wheelbase SJ should be more fun and lively on mellower trails whilst still providing more than enough travel to handle all sorts of descents as you push yourself and grow your skills.

    I wonder how different this is from the regular SJ. I have the comp alloy build and it is pretty comfortable also. Its also really stable at high speeds.

    • @dvazquez28
      @dvazquez28 2 роки тому

      The differences between the regular and Evo are for me huge, Evo has 150mm rear travel and 160 front fork, better brakes, better fork, better shock too the regular has 130mm rear and 140 front travel, less powerful brakes, no piggy back rear shock, fox 34/140mm fork instead of 36/160mm I was looking to both and im more prone to the Evo than regular, hopefully my local specialized dealer has one in my size

    • @jlj547
      @jlj547 2 роки тому

      @@dvazquez28 I guess it depends on your terrain a lot. I was thingking the same with the suspension its definitely a lot more burly in that way. I just wonder by how much though. According to Specialized rating the regular SJ and SJ evo are able to handle the same terrain, which is very interesting, I have taken my regular SJ down chuncky black diamond trails and the suspension does get overwhelmed pretty quickly, but I have the "cheaper" suspension on it. So maybe if I put better suspension on it things will be different.

    • @dvazquez28
      @dvazquez28 2 роки тому

      @@jlj547 that’s right, I’m looking to the Evo as an alternative of the status 160 it’s almost impossible to get one so for me the Evo would be to gnarly trails and enduro but yes, both stumpys are category 4, the regular sj with better forks and shocks may have a difference in riding but the rear travel i think would be something to consider as 20mm May not look like a lot but it does makes a difference
