Stay mentally & physically fit. Train with weapons and actually carry them. Wear cargo pants, a camo fleece jacket and wear a ball cap. Most importantly, STAY ALERT. Trust your senses. 😉

I am a super senior lady with very little physical strength. I can walk well but not run. I'm a dead shot and always armed.I make it obvious that I'm aware of my surroundings and I do not let people get too close to me from behind. I stare directly at people who are approaching me. If necessary I will turn around and go the opposite direction, across the street, go down a different aisle at the supermarket. And I never get a huge amount of groceries. I buy one bag and my hands are free and I am not stuck loading an entire cart load of groceries into the back of my car. My key fob is on a carabiner on the outside of my purse, I unlock the driver door and immediately lock it while getting in. My pistol is at 3:00 and I don't mind letting it be seen when I'm getting in or out of my car.

I'm a retired LEO. There's 8 minutes of rambling before getting to the first point, which is a great one: Being aware of surroundings/vs. being oblivious. You have good content, but subtitles of salient points, or written points on a white board, gives the viewer additional input to cement that information into the learning process. Conciseness is your friend, and keeps the audiences focused. Thanks for information.

Great input, thanks for sharing. People most generally will tell on themselves if you have the insight, and street knowledge, to see it coming. LEO,SWAT, US Soldier, or trained civilians, or very insightful civilians can see it coming before it happens and acts accordingly.

In TEOTWAWKI or SHTF it may be safe to assume that 'regular folk' (non-felons, non ex-cons, non contemporary criminals) are more apt to be potential threats due to their sense of desperation for their selves or families. Talking all this BS about pre-disaster criminals is freakin pointless. Desperate 'regular people' ARE GOING TO TRY ANYTHING & EVERYTHING TO GET YOUR SHITE... and they won't do it nearly as smartly as experienced criminals.

I remember my first being “jumped” by a group of thugs. It was when I was enjoying the night sky and oblivious to my surroundings. The vehicle they were in dropped off 3 in front of me and the driver drove past me. The 3 in front confronted me and I fought back but the driver behind me ambushed me from behind (heard it but not in enough time to counteract him. In the end stuck in a chokehold - 2 other’s restraining my arms and one fishing out my pockets. Took a gun in my face to stop resisting while they took 50 cents (seriously) from my pockets. Some people are just evil and act on their instincts.

Because of y'all and others like you teaching people I believe I avoided an attack. Walking back from a walk alone without my personal protection( which I promised myself I wouldn't ever do). It was day time and I felt safe. I trusted my gut when two men in a car stopped to ask for directions ( like who does that? Everyone had gps on their cell phone now! ) I was in alert mode as one man exited the car with one hand behind his back. I had a walking stick and raised it pointing the opposite way while I spread my feet like I'd love to beat the crap of him (he was shorter than most) he hesitated moving towards me and returned to the car. I won't leave home without my protection again but I agree I looked confident. ( Could've gone wrong tho) I am an older athletic woman

I pulled a "I'm a crazy person" on a guy who harassed me while I was in my car eating lunch.
I was idling my car and he complained about that, and I opened my window and my made my eyes really big and yelled at him and said, "YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT!"
he rolled his window up and left.
Im old and tiny. If I was a man or with somebody else, he wouldn't have targeted me. I'm so fed up with these types of men.

I always watch carefully to who and what is happening around me, and pay attention to what my dog is interested in. No problems so far. Great information, thank you!❤✌

As a person who has had to be in that protecting mode, when I was a kid living at home I always had felt like I had to be the one to protect my sisters and brothers even from my past step dad. And then I became a parent and the protect mode kicked in even greater. Now that I am a grandparent and I am disabled I still have that high alertness and protect mode branded in my brain and heart. I am a small man but with a big attitude, not mean, but the way I look at any possible confrontation is to me a matter of life and death. For the most part I am always aware of my surroundings visible or sound, even if I don't visually see a person my hearing is always paying attention and I am always looking around and when you listen to what is going on around you at any place I have found that to be very beneficial. Like I said though, I treat anyone that may approach me as a threat, life or death situation. Since I have adopted that perspective I feel like I will be a hard target. That may fall into your category of self confidence. But I am a very kind and loving person that would help people in need. So please don't rate me as a bad person. And I think also, being paranoid and always expecting the worst but hoping for the best will keep you on your toes about situational awareness.

I had two guys approach me at a gas station asking for help. They were having problems filling up on the other pump. One kept trying to make a slow flank towards my back side. I firmly told him not to do that because he was making me uneasy. He tried twice, but realized to move off as my body posture went aggressive ready. They were both clueless or amateurs, but stupid either way.
Gas stations are watering holes. Always stay alert to your surroundings in those type of areas, and watch your back. Don't assume you won't be the target.

Another little know fact is that guys with a porn stache are rarely victimized. Unless the attacker already has on nitrile gloves and surgery mop.....haha.
Another thing I remember from the 90's when malls were more popular. There was an older guy, rumored to have a metal plate in his head who would walk around a local mall singing "I've been working on the railroad" or "Camptown ladies" at a rather loud volume. I bet nobody wanted to get near him.... Noise is an equalizer.

I work in an office building surrounded by other office buildings, shops and restaurants. It's like a downtown area. I often leave my office at lunchtime for a walk. I am in a professioanl enviroment where I am required to dress up. Where many of my other female coworkers wear skirts and heels I dress more like an FBI agent. Haha. Dress pants with a little stretch, blazer type jacket and flat dress shoes with rubber soles. If I had to exit an area in an emergency I can do it quickly and quietly. I still look professional and am able to carry spray without anyone knowing. I also attempt to make eye contact with every person I pass. This makes anyone who has bad intentions know I saw them first and can ID them. I also say HI if they make eye contact back. I believe this helps me not look like a victim. I carry myself tall and walk with purpose.
This month I've been saying Merry Christmas. I've gotten alot of smiles back. I think eye contact, a smile or hello disarms would be attackers and blesses the rest of people as I walk by.

Guys this is great. I also think moving quickly with relative authority is important when approaching Individuals that make you nervous or intimidated. I am 6 foot 170 and have rarely had individuals enter my space enough to shake me. Reason being is i start moving and commanding my space as i walk even if its " into their space" or path. Also i do not go into a threats territory if i know i am unwelcome. We all have our spaces. I respect the lower element who doesnt approve of my presence. However i did have issues with peoples attitudes when living in poor areas.so anyhow great video.

I was a victim when I was 28. I’m 5’ 1” and small. I had my 3 children in the grocery store and my friend had just given me a few hundred dollars to pick up things she needed. Three young kids kept circling us and whispering. I was strong because I was a farm girl and I ran 6 miles a day. They had no idea when they decided to grab my purse out of my 6 month olds hands and tip the cart nearly knocking it over what a mistake that was. After recovering the cart and yelling for my kids to stay put I ran yelling as loud as I could to stop them they took my purse. I caught up to the one holding the purse at the same time a clerk did. We brought him down to the ground quickly and that is when I discovered the strength in anger that I didn’t know I had. 3 months before this we had our home broken into and they stole everything of any value in a matter of an hour. That fueled my anger of being a victim for the second time in a short time. I beat him so badly that o had no idea how badly until the police showed up and made him stand. The second kid took off. The third stood and threatened me that he was going to kill my kids if I didn’t let the first one go. Bad bad mistake on his part as I immediately unleashed my momma bear on him next, knocking him to the ground and punching him in the face tearing it up with my nice sharp little rings. When the police made him stand I stood back against the wall and was rather upset with myself as I realized I had completely lost all control. I saw my children there by a cart and that another clerk had been protecting them. I went through a million emotions. I was ashamed that my children witnessed my anger and I stared at the torn up faces on these two pieces of garbage thinking I could not have possibly done this to them. It then hit me that I may have to face charges. I apologized to the officers cringing and explaining what had transpired. When the officer said I was not at fault and they had wished this was the outcome every time this occurred, I just couldn’t resist walking over to the patrol car, leaning in the open window and saying, “ Do you see my face? Take a really good look at me and remember what I look like and that you’ll never again make the mistake of stealing from and threatening a mother that you will harm her children. Dumb foolish, stupid mistake boys! I will never forget your faces. If you should see me anytime in the future, you may want to run for your life because I’ll be running after you and I’ll guarantee I’m a better long range runner than you’ll ever be!” With that I walked away to my children. Please understand that I have never behaved this way. Violations will do things to you that you never would expect. Threats to your children add superhuman strength you did not realize existed within you. I’m not proud of my loss of control but I do not regret my my loss of tolerance and the right to protect what’s mine.
