Black plastic sheeting and thick mil garbage bags taped to windows sills can work for light discipline
As do moving blankets too
Card board, save up boxes and use duct tape.
They can easily be cut to fit inside the frame and taped to seal off the edges, creative people can even make openable light tight shutters.
Can even be held up with pushpins in some cases.
My chiwawa is the alarm my pit bull is the enforcement

I don't live near a body of water but every morning I wake up there's a "creak"!
Every time I here someone use being paranoid as a "bad" thing I think of the saying, "just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you". A little paranoia, in my mind, is a good thing. It's only when it keeps you from trusting anyone that it becomes a bad thing.

I have always told people, There is a difference between being paranoid and being prepared. Paranoia is an irrational fear of danger. Prepared is a logical & rational fear of danger! Ignorance is unaware of any danger. Carelessness is No fear of any danger!
A warning bell, dinner bell, is a great idea! No batteries and always works.

I have Hospice people coming into my house most every day for my mom. They look and log everything. I know they do. I never let them see any of my preps, they don't need to see how much food or water I have stored. They will not see my lanterns, fuel or batteries. They will not see extra the pet food I have. Also, because they don't understand that you need to be prepping right now. A lot of people still aren't thinking about what to do if SHTF. All they need to do is open their eyes. I gently brought up the subject with our favorite nurse and I could just see that she thought that prepping was an extreme measure. I'm not an extreme prepper but I am prepped to some degree. She looked at me like I was crazy. It's very hard to hide food and water....also, in today's times the things I would normally not care about leaving out I've tried to hide. I don't even want anyone to see if I have a box of cereal on the table. You will not see food out on display in my kitchen. I wish I had a bunker or good root cellar. My home is my bunker for now. I'm not prepped for ten years but I think I can get by until things calm down in a SHTF. Maybe a good six months. Until there is a new normal....no one really knows how that is going to happen...all I know is that if SHTF, I'm not going to be one of those people running to Wal-Mart at the last moment for a bottle of water. I'm going to try to hunker down and let things pass. People think you're crazy if you talk like that, but I'd rather have things and not need them rather than need things and not have them. There is no one for me to fall back on so I have to try to make sure we get through whatever might happen.

TOP bunkering Mistakes:
1- Talking about it- DON'T. could create bad neighbors.
2- Don't have all Preps done simultaneously, because that raises flags. people ask questions.
3- Have a dog- it's an alarm to action around the premises.
4- If you live in a highly dense area, plan where to go and how to get out.
5- SECURITY is important. stay watchful. dogs can help. Proximity Alarms, sensors. Don't leave your home without someone guarding your possessions. (#Squatters)
6- Have a water source (Find local water sources and put them on a map) (rain catchment systems, wells with hand pumps, etc), transport for water, and ways to treat the water.
Questions:
use a thick cable to secure guns in cars
Security- when renting, etc (Ring Camera system (hackable), and other units. best best is closed loop is better.
A light for those who need something easy. Warrior Mini- light and defensive weapon)
A good prybar is needed for wrecks and SHTF situations
- rally point for SHTF outside of your home.
- ON hand cash (EMP will knock banks out), $ will be used as barter tools. Gold/Silver and precious metals are God's currency.
7- Rationing water- make it stretch.
8- Well Kept appearance- but not enough to draw attention to yourself. Green Initiatives could try and regulate your personal gardens.
Buy from local farmers.
9- cooking indoors- what place has ventilation. rotate those who cook in and out. Cooking smells. it will attract attention.
10- Light Disipline. light travels. blackout curtains, don't attract attention. (sheets, heavy plastic sheets.
11- Emergency Radio- solar and hand crank combo.
12- Driving- after about 3 days people will panic and move. Don't just drive around in your old truck.
13-Keep heating in a limited area- minimize your fuel usage. rationing firewood. Solar generators can help.
14- NOT helping your neighbors. relationships create allies. Lone Wolf Mentality gets you killed.
15- Communications- At least have an emergency radio with solar and crank. two-way radios (encrypted if possible). Basic level of ringing a Bell.
16- Have a Bug out Plan. Where are you going? who is coming? But you are a glorified refugee.
One other advantage to 'black out' shades and curtains is that it helps save on AC and heat. We had a house where the sun would beat in through the windows and the air conditioner could not keep up. After putting them up the problem was solved.

Keep a tote, or cooler, in the vehicle. Use them to haul in perishables quickly. Nonperishable items can stay put and taken in little by little. Can you drive to the back? Garage access?
Out in the boondocks I am not concerned about my neighbors. Especially since in my area we tend to be pretty prepared. Right now my neighborhood is trying to work together to support each other.
In my neighborhood we have people raising goats, cows and chickens. We also have greenhouses, solar and wood stoves. We even have an electrician and solar expert.
Life Straw. 26000 gallons.
I've never seen anyone test them.
Pre filtering to keep a good flow, once used keeping them from growing mold or feeding testing etc.
I have a couple, but never seen a test results by anyone.

It is important to know your environment. Water quality and air quality meters could help you stay healthy.
EMF meters, barometers and Radiation meters should also be considered.
Of coarse a multi band radio receiver should be in everyone's preps, but we cannot rely on broadcasts to provide real-time information. Therefore, we need our own instrumentation.
Edited to add: The air quality meter is essential if using a wood stove, or cooking in your fire place.

I agree with both statements. I think that if you live with a few people that have the same mindset, everyone can chip in a bit to make things easier so that one person isn't flipping the bill.
never understood why people live in neighborhoods. you’re just inviting nosy neighbors to spy on your preps.
Because there is not enough space on earth for a bigger fraction of the population or even everyone to not live in a neighborhood. And people prefered to live in a neighborhood instead of alone in the nowhere for tenthousands of years, because it is easier to survive in a neighborhood. I know all this "lone wolf" and "I have a group" preppers don't want to hear it. In a really long term crisis, you will not make it. Mankind organized in bigger groups like tribes for a reason. Also the last "wild" living people don not organize in family-sized groups. And with the better technology/knowledge we have, the groups are ideally bigger. Maybe in the early middle ages, when practically every tool was made of wood, the size of a bigger family (parents, 8 kids helping, grandparents, ...) were enough to work efficiently. But later on, the groups got bigger. Someone had to "mine" for meadow ore, someone had to build and use a racing furnace. Someone had to forge, someone had to build and sustain a well, someone had to repair the building,... If you think you can do this by yourself or a small group ... yes, maybe you can do it today, because there is home depot. In a grid down situation, after the prepped material is used and the substance was harmed by time and usage - you need replacement. You need clothes, shoes, well-prepared wood, medical treatment (plants, surgeons, midwifes,...), you need cooking equipment, buckets, jars, knifes, harvesting equipment, looms, spinning wheels, fertilizer, teachers (no, your wife will not have the time for homeschooling), carpenters, ...
You need a big team, otherwise you get inefficient. If you have a surgeon in your group of twenty people. How good will he and his helper be, when their skills are needed the first time after 4 years? Will His equipment be ready or corroded? Do you want to build and sustain a smithy for this group? Mankind succeded because of the division of work and joint working. Family groups extinguished because of Low efficiency.

Thoughts and prayers for Robbie and family. Lost my mom a year ago to COVID. And yes, it really was COVID. She was in rehab for a couple months, but had dementia, diagnosed, for seven years and fell, breaking a hip. She was a believer so we're happy for her, but still hurts, even a year later.
I understand OPSEC; however, also think of the opposite side -- intel. If the neighbor knows you have supplies, find out what they have to offer in trade. They're probably not preppers, but do they collect coins or other valuables? What skills do they have? You can find out these things through casual conversation. No one in our neighborhood comes out and says they are preppers, but those who are preppers recognize one another. We know who to work with when SHTF. One of ours has a manual mower, which could come in handy with no power.
We need to be gardening our own food supply, both perennials fruit and nut trees and berry bushes and annuals garden. Eat healthier, save on groceries, fitness and health from the work on it.
LOL !! Oh yes, we have two terriers! Great alarm and "protection" system for those "bad" delivery people!!! The West Highland is the watch dog and the Scottish Terrier is the "attack" dog! I did put signs up to warn the delivery people, cause two different Fed Ex guys have reached over the fence to pet the cute, adorable, very loud. barking dog with BIG teeth ! I had to administer first aid to one of them. Between the two of them, they are quite a great security system.
It’s not legal in some states to leave a handgun unintended in a vehicle. If the vehicle gets stolen, they don’t want a gun stolen also .
Most firearms stolen from vehicles are from police vehicles.

How much non scented chlorine bleach should you put in in a 5 gallon water container
FEMA actually publishes some pretty good guides including preparing water and containers for storage.
Use 1/4 cup of unscented Clorox bleach and fill the 5 gallon container about a fourth of the way full, then swish the contents around very well, pour it out, then fill with water, label, date it, and seal.
8 drops per gallon.
@silversleuth007 FEMA actually recommends thoroughly cleaning the storage container, then sanitize with bleach, a thorough rinse, and fill with water with no added bleach.
My. Condolences
I keep a few guns in the car, various spots. All Taurus G3 and G3C. I like Taurus or Canik for cheap Katrina guns that can be confiscated in SHTFF like the gov did in Katrina. In SHTFF I may carry a cheap carbine in trunk. I don't want my Glocks confiscated while on the road. Have lots of cheap but reliable replacement guns in the deep preps for when they get confiscated.
How about construction tools and a chainsaw
I have questions.1.If you've prepped with a camp stove and propane, how do you store your propane? 2. In grid down, how do you keep prepared food cold? 3. Bleach to water ratio for a 55 gal barrel? A way to get the water out of the barrel...a spout, for water, not oil? In the early stages before people realize that we need community.....You don't want to let anyone smell your cooking, they should also know that you're armed to defend it. 4. I need help getting bullets for my 38 hand gun. The help I need is knowledge. I was going to order them...or try but it involved more than just ordering 38 bullets.( Cabela's) They needed to know the grain and size. I have no idea. The web site needs more knowledge than I have on the subject of bullets. I want to load my gun and shoot if needed...I don't know all the technicalities of the bullets. It's just me and my bedbound mamma here and I've prepped but there are some things I just don't know. A hole in my preps....I need more bullets for my 38....that's all defense I have but I want to do the best I can do.

So, Love the channel and love what you do. Thank you for what you do. HOWEVER, you’ve got to lower the time on the vids man. Most people’s attention span won’t let them stick to over 5mins and if you’re going for informative you might get away with 20mins. Break down the video into segments and your numbers will go way up. (Along with the likes and subs) just trying to help not trying to be an a$$.

How often should you change out your water in the blue barrels?
I've seen videos that say as long as the water was filled with municipal water and/or you added sanitizer to it before sealing the container, it could last for at least 5 years or longer. The key is that it's in one of those food safe blue containers and properly sealed.
For those that don’t know, what about doing a few videos on- changing a tire, sharpening a blade/different blades with different sharpening methods, changing the small screw that came with your door for 3 inch screws to help keep someone from just blowing your door down like the Big Bad Wolf, cleaning and maintaining firearms, methods for acquisition (for food ammo aid), every day motivation and fitness (why do so many PREPPERTUBERS neglect this?!). These are just a few topics, I know “start your own channel and make that content!!” Yes I could but many of you have been here decades and have put out the exact same content year after year. Season for season. It’s redundant and innate.

I bought the vesta heater/cooking device. & the ember off grid oven from my Patriot Supply. The both use. 6 hour canned heat. / the canned heat is less expensive at Sams/ Costco./ also the 1 burner propane camping stoves work well for indoor cooking. Many cooking shows use them in their kitchens. Just a few things to answer your question.

I've always called it hunkering down. We just called it surviving until the Rambo movies (early 70's) when bugging out became popular then we called the opposite - hunker down. As we moved into the 21st century - people couldn't tell the difference between hunker down and bug out so they changed it nonsensically to bugging in (running away to where you already are). Kind of like that mark below the ? on the keyboard - a / (slash). In the 1970's we created a computer programming character of the \ (back slash). As we entered into the 21st century, young ones couldn't tell the difference between a slash and a back slash so now we have a forward slash and a back slash.
