Truly Epic. Watching MM gives me chills just like MP did{And Does) in the early days. Fantastic choice for the band. As times goes on we will see what music MM has in him too.
Mike Mangini plays this energic song without dificulties...... I respect Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, and all of greatest drummer in the world.... Don't have to be "The Great Debate" of who is the best drummer, right?
Yeah, you're right. After seeing Marco in live concert with The Aristocrats I really think he would had brought a new style to DT; also, he's a great composer. But we will see, I hope they'll do their best... I want to believe :_D
@Vinterless I prefer Images and Words era's songwriting too, I'll give you that. But I think Jordan is one of a few that still haven't lost the true 'progressive' spirit. I mean, the genre labels itself 'progressive' but recently it degenerated into technicality circus... Rudess still does the circus but he experiments with so many instruments, which I think is a truly progressive attitude towards music. For example check out his Geo Synthesizer.
@KrixPrix I think you are right, i thought it was the OASYS but if you look carefully you can tell the difference in the screen, and also the knobs (OASYS has colored knobs and KRONOS doesn´t) such a good observation !!!!
@gigman74 : Starting at about 9:20 on "Lost Not Forgotten" Mangini plays 16th notes riding on a hihat (or some kind of stack) and without missing a single note, also plays the snare on the up beat in 1/4 notes. Now, it is physically impossible to do this in the "traditional" way of playing drums without missing a note on that 16th ride on the hihat. So, you trying playing 16th notes on a hihat and 1/4 notes on the snare on the upbeat WITHOUT missing a single note on the hihat. Go ahead.
@gigman74 hi gigman74 . fantastic quality vids.i was down the front with my TZ10 but it was impossible to shoot down there but what i did get the sound quality is still awesome. you cant beat these panasonic point and shoot cams.awesome gig by the way :-)
@metaldoood youare gonnahave a blast. MM has given them a new lease of life.i was at this gig, they were on fire, best ive heard them in the last 10 years, even JLB was on his game :-) ENJOY.
The "drum" parts were written (by JP if i'm not wrong) before Mangini joined the band. He just recorded based on it. I think we have to wait for the next album to see how far Mangini fits this band.
@gigman74 : Don't have to. He does it right here in front of your eyes if you're paying attention. Starting at 7:20, he rides on the chinese with his right hand while doing fills that would otherwise require both hands to play (variations of quadruplets, quintuplets, etc) unless you have seriously fast hands and are totally ambidextrous. Which, I can't think of another drummer that is capable of doing that. I'm sure someone out there is...but I haven't seen it.
@shimyns Yeah i mean, if they were THAT bothered then why didn't they search anyone for cameras on the door?? My camera is a panasonic tz20 and looks like a normal point and shoot but i was right by the door and the security were going through there quite often. I have recorded whole gigs before and it hurts the arm after a while. I used a panasonic ft1 on all my other recordings and that is much lighter, which helps! That only records in 720p though but it's still better than most cams
thats true, but i still think his style is similar to MP (basing off stuff mangini wrote)...and would have loved to hear a new sound from DT...but a lot of people like their sound from the last albums so i guess we can't all be happy :D
But if Rudess is willing to explore new instruments, that will add a greater progressive element to the band. i.e., his use of the Harpejji. Oh, and if you ever see him talking about his parts, his is as series as any other keyboard player out there.
@gigman74 You´re kidding right? 7:20? 1º He don´t rides on chinese. It´s just a simple and relative slow 4\4 compass. 2º The left hand is making just doubles, and in this case that requires just ONE hand. Maybe you´re confused because his feet are playing fast single strokes at the same time of left hand fills. If i wrote some error sorry, but i´m not very good in English.
@gigman74 LOL yeah I can see why. I recorded a few bits on my iphone but the sound was sh1tty. You must have been toting a good camera and they didn't want you to make a profit off the outcoming video. Cheers
@Siphonoglyph Now if YOU were paying attention to the original comment, "It's awesome to see Mike Mangini doing things with ONE limb that others can't do with two!" then you wouldn't have commented! No drummer can do more on ONE hand than others can do on two!
@Siphonoglyph You're not listening are you???? NO drummer in the world can play more with ONE limb than ANY other drummer can with TWO. It's impossible!
i still wish they picked Marco or Thoams Lang....i feel that Mangini doesn't add anything more to the band, but is a really good replica for MP, which i guess is what the band is looking for...but after the last few albums i hoped for something different...new album was good, but no drum parts were noticeable
what the fuck! they didn't play ANY of these badass songs while on the dramatic tour of events at the Atlanta stop. I feel robbed!! I fucking hate this band now. :( lol
What's that stupid Rudess caricature animation? I miss the true DT so much.. with a serious keyboard player that wanted to play music instead of having fun with experimental instruments and shaving like a wizard.
A very difficult and a highly technical song especially for mangini! I think he nailed it
Yup !!!
Mangini’s symmetrical kit and isolated limb system in playing it is beyond normal human beings.
9:30 Mike Mangini is attacking by mosquitos
Wow, this song actually makes for a very good concert performance
Truly Epic. Watching MM gives me chills just like MP did{And Does) in the early days. Fantastic choice for the band. As times goes on we will see what music MM has in him too.
what an awesome song! great to see the guys perform their great stuff from the good old times!...
Mike Mangini plays this energic song without dificulties......
I respect Mike Portnoy, Mike Mangini, and all of greatest drummer in the world....
Don't have to be "The Great Debate" of who is the best drummer, right?
No one's commenting on it, but that light show is amazing!
I really wish they had dome this song for Live at Luna Park.
Rudess @0:45
*changes hand*
*watches audience*
*trollface*
Yeah, you're right. After seeing Marco in live concert with The Aristocrats I really think he would had brought a new style to DT; also, he's a great composer. But we will see, I hope they'll do their best... I want to believe :_D

I agree. Who else can make that 'Continuum' sing like it does ?
extraordinario D T lejos la mas potente banda que ha pisado la tierra !
@KrixPrix I think you are right, i thought it was the OASYS but if you look carefully you can tell the difference in the screen, and also the knobs (OASYS has colored knobs and KRONOS doesn´t) such a good observation !!!!

The intro is always insane
@gigman74 hi gigman74 . fantastic quality vids.i was down the front with my TZ10 but it was impossible to shoot down there but what i did get the sound quality is still awesome. you cant beat these panasonic point and shoot cams.awesome gig by the way :-)
@gigman74 How about on the ride cymbal at 1:51? Thats pretty cool.
great performance...specially for MM
Going to San Francisco in 1 1/2 months :) .. Can't wait
@metaldoood youare gonnahave a blast. MM has given them a new lease of life.i was at this gig, they were on fire, best ive heard them in the last 10 years, even JLB was on his game :-) ENJOY.
Just noticed Petrucci almost lost his superpowers @ 6:22
The "drum" parts were written (by JP if i'm not wrong) before Mangini joined the band. He just recorded based on it. I think we have to wait for the next album to see how far Mangini fits this band.
U drunk go home
Maggini plays good with song.
The drum part is fucking awesome ! : )
@noconflictbanana Panasonic tz20. All other band videos on my profile were recorded with a Panasonic ft1 which is 720p
lol rudess has a korg oasys look a like stand but its another one (kronos?)
@gigman74 : Don't have to. He does it right here in front of your eyes if you're paying attention. Not enough JMX footage...but pretty good coverage nonetheless
7:06 ,that's very accurate
Was Labrie late for 4 bars at 8:06??
Agreed!
HOLY SHIT JORDAN AT 11:41
@shimyns Thanks :-) That's all the videos i have. I was told to stop recording :-(
I'll try and record them again when they tour the album.
There is nothing like seeing Dream Theater live! Check out my cover of this solo on my channel!
@Chuck04606 the people who loved to debate, especially great debate, actually it's coming out from their DNA. :p
Mangini is so fricking good here omg.
@shimyns Yeah i mean, if they were THAT bothered then why didn't they search anyone for cameras on the door?? Dude, awesome quality! I just some them in Israel. Do you have any vids you have yet to upload?
thats true, but i still think his style is similar to MP (basing off stuff mangini wrote)...and would have loved to hear a new sound from DT...but a lot of people like their sound from the last albums so i guess we can't all be happy :D

12:00 the stage lights can't even keep up with petrucci ;)
LOL I love DT and everything, but watching this at the 3:16 mark, I can't help but think that the video being played on the screen is DNA :p
well, it is DNA, because of the lyrics
what ibanez s model is that
@gigman74 LOL yeah I can see why. I recorded a few bits on my iphone but the sound was sh1tty. You must have been toting a good camera and they didn't want you to make a profit off the outcoming video. Cheers
7:06 mangini is a beast
@oikonomidis1 Please name one thing that Mangini can do with one limb that others cannot do with two.... I'm waiting! ;-)
crowd looks dead
Best Mangini
@noconflictbanana £235.90 Great camera for the price!
@drummingdude47 The trip happens in the mind! If only you could see the neurons in the brain...
@Siphonoglyph Now if YOU were paying attention to the original comment, "It's awesome to see Mike Mangini doing things with ONE limb that others can't do with two!" then you wouldn't have commented! No drummer can do more on ONE hand than others can do on two!
@gigman74 Sorry man. My mistake.
@Siphonoglyph You're not listening are you????
NO drummer in the world can play more with ONE limb than ANY other drummer can with TWO. It's impossible!
Playing complicated riffs your paid to play? sure, it must be hell.. come on.
What's wrong with experimenting and having an awesome goatee?
THIS.
12:03 portnoy cant do that wkwkw
Afrian DC lmao even i can do that.. i happens when a moron think that he is better than the world's best
@MrSixxen Why are you replying to me??
mangine nunca tomará o lugar de mike. mike eternity
i still wish they picked Marco or Thoams Lang....i feel that Mangini doesn't add anything more to the band, but is a really good replica for MP, which i guess is what the band is looking for...but after the last few albums i hoped for something different...new album was good, but no drum parts were noticeable
@anti7gn OMG. hahahaha
what the fuck! they didn't play ANY of these badass songs while on the dramatic tour of events at the Atlanta stop. I feel robbed!! I fucking hate this band now. :( lol
Please please please...Bring Mike Portnoy back to DT
+Mashudi Cules No thanks, Portnoy would never allow something like the Astonishing so he can fuck off
They would probably still make The Astonishing if MP stayed, it would just have more heavy metal influence and that stupid growling.
Really? All I could think after watching this was Mangini played that song pretty fuckin good!
Mashudi Cules sorry but this mike is better than old mike here. .
Only a moron will say that magini is better than old mike here
nevr heard of dream theater before but after the gig they were my (second) favourite band that have ever been
not as good as metalica
On the other hand, Labrie seems to be struggling just a little bit by my ears....
What's that stupid Rudess caricature animation? I miss the true DT so much.. with a serious keyboard player that wanted to play music instead of having fun with experimental instruments and shaving like a wizard.
Lol Mangini has such an epic face in the beginning !
