- i think i might do a speedpaint of these two after spending like. 4 days doing this. i'm attached to them.
Characters are originals named Jade and Deacon, both of which belong to an old story ive put together over the years.
note: yup, those are cuts on his wrists, and yup, this is from the musical Heathers, an adaptation of the movie

I feel horrible for JD; he’s a product of his past and when he says “Please don’t leave me alone” you can hear the pain in his voice. His father is wack, he saw his mother commit suicide, he might’ve been bullied, had so move around a lot- JD has unsolved problems and as a result, wants to hurt people and the only way he knows how to love someone is to be controlling and manipulative (which might’ve been how his father treated his mother, resulting in her suicide).
I feel so flipping bad for him aaaaaaaa
In the end, when he explodes himself, you can see the relief in his face as he finally ends his misery. Nobody should have to live a life like that, but he couldn’t live any other way, and that’s really depressing

He could have been such a good person if it wasn't because his father. He isn't stupid and who knows, if he had better parents he would be very nice or at least not a murderer. Imagine if he had a good childhood, he would have dated Veronica, fixed up the high school and been happy for ever after with his gf.

I was abused as a child too. I do feel for him but that's not an excuse for his actions. But yes he is very ill and I wish he got help.

JD was only doing what Veronica wanted him to do... It's kind of like a reverse Macbeth: a Veronica was manipulating JD into manipulating her kind of deal... For example, in "Beautiful," Veronica says that she has to try not to burn the school down. After, in Fight For Me, Veronica sings about how she wanted someone to fight for her. Later, she was the one who climbed into JD's bed and had sex with him in order to deal with her own problems. JD was so happy to have someone care for him for once in his life, so he gave his life to her. After that, the first murder JD committed was Heather, who hadn't done anything to him. In fact, the only reason he killed Heather was because Veronica wanted her dead. Later, he kills Kurt and that other guy because they tried to rape Veronica and were spreading rumours about her. She was simply manipulating JD into telling her to do what she subconsciously wanted so that she would not have the guilt of having come up with the murder schemes herself while, simultaneously, running away from her troubles... Finally, she realizes that she was the one who had caused him to murder so many people: In Dead Girl Walking Reprise, she calls JD "the monster [she] created."

The difference of character in the musical and movie is insane. In the movie, he was a complete sociopath. When Veronica "hanged" herself, he brought a gun and said something along the lines that he came there to do it himself (kill her.) however, in the musical, there is much more emotion, passion, and I guess love? The musical version makes it be more tangible abd emotionally fuled. Yes the high school has screwed him over but with Veronica he feels love. So. The movie was like romance? Nah but the musical added more reason to their relationship
Tbh I see his relationship with Veronica more as a need of possession. I think he sees Veronica more as an object that he deserves to own and control rather than another person, but that’s just my interpretation :0

I watched this before I watched the musical. I thought JD was a blonde rich jock (light hair, his messed up dress shirt + how he could afford bomb supplies, he was obsessed with the pep rally, etc). I thought his backstory was the making of a school shooter, but through the perspective of a kid that society/the school would respect. Maybe he had a messed up home life + untreated mental illness + the pressure of society to be perfect/fit in led him to want to crush the facade and make people see how messed up everything really is. I was thinking that it would be a putting make-up on mental scars doesn't help them heal kind of moral to the story. I was totally wrong (I still love regular JD lmao) but it'd be interesting to see a character like this. (I'm not a fan of the dumb jock vs. emo nerd stereotype).

There are so many individual frames, the expression is beautiful, the anatomy is amazing, your style is such a satisfying blend of realistic and a cartoon, and the cuts were just a stroke of genius!
