i think this is the most complete and perfect way to experience the musical. Not only the subtitile are not in the way of the animatics but they complete it and add more to it. And somehow you managed to take the best parts of each animatic. Sir, the day you add the ithaca saga when enough animatic are out, my life will be complete.
It helps that beside being the messenger god (and god of a few other things like thieves, travelers) he's also the trickster god of Greek mythology so being goofy fits. At least that's from Greek myth I've read and sometimes he could not be accounted as the trickster as not all myths are the same.

Things that make this musical hit harder 1. Odysseus has been with Penelope sense they where 13 and he was the reason the Trojan war was such a cluster 2. Hermes is Odysseus’ great grandfather 3. Eurylochus is actually married to Odysseus baby sister, so he’s literally his brother in law!
@@Javidom14 It was probably because in the myth, he's the one who proposed the oath that every suitor of Helen had to vow and uphold, something about protecting her chosen one (the reason given in the Pick Me cut song) or that they'll go to war to protect the sanctity of their marriage. Something along those lines, anyone correct me if I'm remembering wrong please. But that's like saying Achilles's mother is to blame too because she's too beautiful and Poseidon and Zeus both wanted her for themselves, but they couldn't have her so they decided to give her to a mortal instead. Then proceeded to invite every god except for Eris, the goddess of discord, and the origin of the trial of the apple of discord that made Aphrodite give Paris the most beautiful woman in the world AKA Helen. It's neither here nor there, really.

the editing on this is INSANE. you did a really good job incorporating different animatics together! the intermission is also hilarious (but in the wrong place if placing between acts; act 1 ends with monster) the pink pony one made me howl. polites was real for that. i can't wait to see the ithaca saga incorporated!
100% all of this! A couple of mistakes, like intermission being in the wrong spot and some subtitle mistakes but the effort and result in this is LEGENDARY
Tbf despite the intermission being placed in the wrong place, doing it before the 7 year time skip from a narrative perspective is a pretty good alternative placement so I can’t really complain

Please just watch a playlist so the people who actually worked on the animations get the views/credit. Regardless of what Luke has put in the description this is straight up theft and not transformative/fair use in the slightest.
But it is, though. In the same way that the original animations are not stealing from the Epic music itself. The custom work on thematic caption animation and transitions between animatics during songs makes this a video worth watching on its own merit. You will also notice they have added in color to several of the animations that didn't before, to make transitions between more smooth. Honestly, just the captions alone are worth it because a lot of the solo animatics don't have english captions, just AI ones, and some people need captions to understand music.
There is a difference between making an animatic with Jorge's blessing (The creator of Epic). And stealing multiple people's work for your own channel without permission.
I adore this! I love how you stitched together multiple animatics for one song at times to better fit- say during Warrior of The Mind- I love that one animatic here 13:34 but the whole thing actually changes the context of when the song happens, but stitching it together with others actually helps with that while still keeping the beautiful animation!

1:59:53 Y’know I really love the way this animator portrays Poseidon, and not just the fire design. They don’t make him a complete monster, he hesitated for a moment when Ody tried to reason with him, he even lowered himself down to Odysseus’ level, he looks sad, but he can’t just stop.. he has a reputation to keep, Ruthlessness is mercy, after all.. And when Ody reaches his hand out, he takes a couple seconds to slip back into his angry state of mind, it almost looks like, maybe, if he didn’t get pissed off again, he might have accepted Odysseus’ suggestion to just give up on the fight, and go back home (which would have saved him a lot of pain-), he thought about it for a while.. and that just kinda makes me happy, warms my heart a little, even though he’s the one claiming ruthlessness to be mercy, he’s still a little conflicted, he wants to move on, but he can’t.. he said it himself, he had a reputation, a name to uphold.. even if maybe, he doesn’t want to keep up that reputation all the time.
Holy cow, the way you make the animatics fade in and out to reinforce some sections is genius, the transitions are perfect, cannot wait for Ithaca to watch with my family

I read the Odyssey my sophomore year when the first saga dropped. I never bothered listening to Epic until literally a couple of days ago.. and I have no regrets. This video was such a huge help with visualizing not only the story, but the amount of support and love put towards the project. Thank you so much!! 💕
this was the best way to do this kind of video pulling from multiple animators, if you’re going to do an entirely new cut for the ithaca saga i would strongly recommend neal illustrator, they’re one of the best animators to make anything epic related in my opinion.
If you make the entirety of this but with the final saga, a few suggestions i wanna add is like, adding the name of each song and maybe credit to the artist when their animatic is shown? But im assuming this was all for fun and not to represent the entire musical as a whole so thats alright because either way this was SUCH A FUN WATCH YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB With the subtitles, the mixing of animatincs, the colors, the mixing of the music with the old animatics, just STELLAR! Thanks for making this!

not a criticism, I love your choices, but when I was choosing an animatic for Thunder Bringer, I specifically chose one where the ending had the rest of the crew except for Eurylochus attack Odysseus. I can't explain why but I preferred it when Eurylochus hung back
THIS IS SO PERFECT I CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW MY FRIENDS THE WHOLE MUSICAL ONCE YOU RELEASE THE ONE WITH THE FINAL SAGA. You have done the whole fanbase a great service and we all thank you. If I may suggest tho: 1. In the Poseidon torture scene in 600 strike from "you idiot", let it just be the one in Jorge's livestream for maximum darkness and emphasis on monstrosity 2. Have as many animatics from Jorge's livestream as you can in the Ithaca saga because those have maximum monster and emotions especially in Hold Them Down, Odysseus, and WYFILWMA 3. End with gigi's animatic of WYFILWMA 4. In the 2nd chorus of Dangerous, have the animatic switch to Jorge's livestream version because twerking Hermes lmao 5. In the final chorus of The Underworld, consider switching animatics to ShiQing47's version, with a bit of green sprinkled in 6. As much as Thunder Bringer feels like the Act 1 closer, Act 1's closer is actually Monster
I wholeheartedly believe during the underworld Saga and beyond the voices of the fallen where allowed to be heard by Odysseus is because Hades allows it, mostly out of spite of Poseidon but possibly because Athena asked her cool uncle to keep him motivated.

got to the first song where our choices differ: Ruthlessness. the animatics you chose were great but I loved in the Neal Illustrator one how for the entire song the fleet was just trying to survive because merely being in the presence of an angry god is dangerous, even if he's not angry specifically at you. But the AniFlamma and Gigi animatics are both really good choices
I am a SUCKER for AniFlamma's Poseidon lol. The dark horse vibes creep me out in the best way. Neals is so good tho, I might try to incorporate more of their animations into it
I actually think using Gigi's and Anniflamma's Ruthlessness is a great choice because of their depictions of Poseidon. Neal's art style is incredible and I love her inclusion of the crew, but her Poseidon is way to angry about what happened to Polyphemus when Epic Poseidon doesn't really care for his son. As shown in "Get in the Water, Poseidon in EPIC is more concerned about his reputation and Gigi and Aniflamma's animatics convey that much more in my opinion.

Nothing against Neals version. Their Poseidon looks AMAZING, It just didn't seem to fit very well to me with everything else
the way i had to pause around 1:01:13 because Ody singing with his mom made me full on sob And i have no clue why lmao, usually that part of the song gets me teary eyed for sure but this time I was just full on sobbing all of a sudden Maybe that's how i know this musical is a masterpiece lol, I've never had a musical make me cry like that before
I'm Not Sorry For Loving You is probably one of the saddest in this whole thing because the only look into what happened to her after is she apparently took her own life because she never got over loving Odysseus.
@qwerty_qwerty The funny thing about Greek mythology is technically nothing is "canon". There are countless different writings of all these characters and many of them contradict each other, and each myth evolved over time. Calypso was first introduced into Greek mythology by Homer when he wrote The Odyssey and her origin wasn't really talked about, and very little was written about her after that. A few authors came out after Homer to expand a bit on her story. What was mostly agreed upon from their writings is that her father was the god Atlas and her mother was the sea nymph Pleione - and nymphs are mortal. That would make Calypso a demigod, which are not immortal and can die. They can live a very long life and can be very powerful, but they can die. There are other sources that suggest both her parents were gods, but that's less agreed upon and wouldn't be considered "canon" for a lack of better words. Most agree that Calypso spent like 50-100 years sitting at the shore hoping for Odysseus to return, and when he didn't the heartbreak drove her to take her own life.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to say that the musical concept EPIC took quite a few artistic liberties when they wrote many of these songs and a lot of the little details strayed away from The Odyssey. And even more artistic liberties were taken in the animations. I don't have any problem with this because that's literally how Greek mythology evolved over time. But I'd just suggest to take EPIC with a grain of salt when you wonder how close it is to the original The Odyssey. I loved it either way and think they did a great job bringing a nearly 3000 year old story into the 21st century.
@samanthadrakos Right, but I'm talking about canon to EPIC specifically. It's very clearly stated in LIP that Calypso is a goddess and she can't die. I think other authors expanding on Calypso's story is interesting, but I just wanted to add a clarification for EPIC.
@qwerty_qwerty I guess I don't understand what you mean. LIP as well as all of the songs in EPIC were written by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. Being that he took a lot of artistic liberties when writing the lyrics, that means there's nothing canon about any of the songs in EPIC. And there have been no other releases or remakes of EPIC to compare versions. So... like... EPIC in its entirety is just canon to itself. Unless you're trying to say that "goddesses can't die" is not an original lyric in the musical?? Like, the singer just threw it in there for funzies? If that's what you're saying, then yes that lyric is original. The lyrics were written by JRH and the singers were all hired through a company to sing these specific lyrics. So, again, the whole of EPIC is canon to itself. If that's not what you mean then I'm totally confused.

Omg I hadnt listend to epic the musical before id just heard a couple songs and this is quiet possibly the best thing I've found in the last two years it allowed me to sit down and watch it and I loved that there where subtitles that didn't take away from it and I loved seeing all the different animators styles this is awesome
This is my favorite adaptation I hated in the original how dedicated he was towards his wife and son just to basically cheat on them with circe and Calypso This one Sept for that kiss scene He stayed truthful to them which made the story more impactful
THANK YOU. This is amazing!!!!!! I was wishing this kind of thing existed. The way you chose the best parts of every animatic. The ONE thing I hope you include if you make a complete version with the Ithaca saga is the hand letting the baby go at the end of Gigi’s “Just a Man” animatic. It’s included in their combined “Horse and the Infant/Just a Man” video. It’s such a pivotal moment and it makes it clear that Ody did in fact kill the infant. But seriously be proud, this is the BEST way to experience the musical right now!
Yeah honestly Athena wasn’t too smart there in my opinion 😂 Like the moment Hera said “give me one good reason”, the first thing out of Athena mouth should have been “This man has been faithful to his wife for 20 years”. It would have made Hera’s apperance much shorter but like come on Athena, it was so painfully obvious you said that one line and Hera would have agreed instantly 😂

@@Javidom14 It was probably because in the myth, he's the one who proposed the oath that every suitor of Helen had to vow and uphold, something about protecting her chosen one (the reason given in the Pick Me cut song) or that they'll go to war to protect the sanctity of their marriage. Something along those lines, anyone correct me if I'm remembering wrong please.
But that's like saying Achilles's mother is to blame too because she's too beautiful and Poseidon and Zeus both wanted her for themselves, but they couldn't have her so they decided to give her to a mortal instead. Then proceeded to invite every god except for Eris, the goddess of discord, and the origin of the trial of the apple of discord that made Aphrodite give Paris the most beautiful woman in the world AKA Helen.

100% all of this! A couple of mistakes, like intermission being in the wrong spot and some subtitle mistakes but the effort and result in this is LEGENDARY
Tbf despite the intermission being placed in the wrong place, doing it before the 7 year time skip from a narrative perspective is a pretty good alternative placement so I can’t really complain
the reason why the intermission is placed after the tunder saga is because it doesn't spoil the experience

Please just watch a playlist so the people who actually worked on the animations get the views/credit. Regardless of what Luke has put in the description this is straight up theft and not transformative/fair use in the slightest.
But it is, though. In the same way that the original animations are not stealing from the Epic music itself. The custom work on thematic caption animation and transitions between animatics during songs makes this a video worth watching on its own merit. You will also notice they have added in color to several of the animations that didn't before, to make transitions between more smooth.
Honestly, just the captions alone are worth it because a lot of the solo animatics don't have english captions, just AI ones, and some people need captions to understand music.
There is a difference between making an animatic with Jorge's blessing (The creator of Epic). And stealing multiple people's work for your own channel without permission.
I adore this! I love how you stitched together multiple animatics for one song at times to better fit- say during Warrior of The Mind- I love that one animatic here 13:34 but the whole thing actually changes the context of when the song happens, but stitching it together with others actually helps with that while still keeping the beautiful animation!

They don’t make him a complete monster, he hesitated for a moment when Ody tried to reason with him, he even lowered himself down to Odysseus’ level, he looks sad, but he can’t just stop.. he has a reputation to keep, Ruthlessness is mercy, after all..
And when Ody reaches his hand out, he takes a couple seconds to slip back into his angry state of mind, it almost looks like, maybe, if he didn’t get pissed off again, he might have accepted Odysseus’ suggestion to just give up on the fight, and go back home (which would have saved him a lot of pain-), he thought about it for a while.. and that just kinda makes me happy, warms my heart a little, even though he’s the one claiming ruthlessness to be mercy, he’s still a little conflicted, he wants to move on, but he can’t.. he said it himself, he had a reputation, a name to uphold.. even if maybe, he doesn’t want to keep up that reputation all the time.

I read the Odyssey my sophomore year when the first saga dropped. I never bothered listening to Epic until literally a couple of days ago.. and I have no regrets. This video was such a huge help with visualizing not only the story, but the amount of support and love put towards the project. Thank you so much!! 💕
this was the best way to do this kind of video pulling from multiple animators, if you’re going to do an entirely new cut for the ithaca saga i would strongly recommend neal illustrator, they’re one of the best animators to make anything epic related in my opinion.
If you make the entirety of this but with the final saga, a few suggestions i wanna add is like, adding the name of each song and maybe credit to the artist when their animatic is shown? But im assuming this was all for fun and not to represent the entire musical as a whole so thats alright because either way this was SUCH A FUN WATCH YOU DID AN AMAZING JOB

not a criticism, I love your choices, but when I was choosing an animatic for Thunder Bringer, I specifically chose one where the ending had the rest of the crew except for Eurylochus attack Odysseus. I can't explain why but I preferred it when Eurylochus hung back
THIS IS SO PERFECT I CANNOT WAIT TO SHOW MY FRIENDS THE WHOLE MUSICAL ONCE YOU RELEASE THE ONE WITH THE FINAL SAGA.
You have done the whole fanbase a great service and we all thank you.
If I may suggest tho:
1. In the Poseidon torture scene in 600 strike from "you idiot", let it just be the one in Jorge's livestream for maximum darkness and emphasis on monstrosity
2. Have as many animatics from Jorge's livestream as you can in the Ithaca saga because those have maximum monster and emotions especially in Hold Them Down, Odysseus, and WYFILWMA
3. End with gigi's animatic of WYFILWMA
4. In the 2nd chorus of Dangerous, have the animatic switch to Jorge's livestream version because twerking Hermes lmao
5. In the final chorus of The Underworld, consider switching animatics to ShiQing47's version, with a bit of green sprinkled in
6. As much as Thunder Bringer feels like the Act 1 closer, Act 1's closer is actually Monster
I wholeheartedly believe during the underworld Saga and beyond the voices of the fallen where allowed to be heard by Odysseus is because Hades allows it, mostly out of spite of Poseidon but possibly because Athena asked her cool uncle to keep him motivated.

got to the first song where our choices differ: Ruthlessness. the animatics you chose were great but I loved in the Neal Illustrator one how for the entire song the fleet was just trying to survive because merely being in the presence of an angry god is dangerous, even if he's not angry specifically at you. But the AniFlamma and Gigi animatics are both really good choices
I am a SUCKER for AniFlamma's Poseidon lol. The dark horse vibes creep me out in the best way. Neals is so good tho, I might try to incorporate more of their animations into it
I actually think using Gigi's and Anniflamma's Ruthlessness is a great choice because of their depictions of Poseidon. Neal's art style is incredible and I love her inclusion of the crew, but her Poseidon is way to angry about what happened to Polyphemus when Epic Poseidon doesn't really care for his son. As shown in "Get in the Water, Poseidon in EPIC is more concerned about his reputation and Gigi and Aniflamma's animatics convey that much more in my opinion.
I kinda wish there was a bit of theearteest or another animatic that had the laestrygonians doing the chorus and chucking the rocks.

Nothing against Neals version. Their Poseidon looks AMAZING, It just didn't seem to fit very well to me with everything else

I'm Not Sorry For Loving You is probably one of the saddest in this whole thing because the only look into what happened to her after is she apparently took her own life because she never got over loving Odysseus.
Goddesses can't die - This can't be canon to EPIC, regardless of where it's from (which I don't think is the original Odyssey)
@qwerty_qwerty The funny thing about Greek mythology is technically nothing is "canon". There are countless different writings of all these characters and many of them contradict each other, and each myth evolved over time. Calypso was first introduced into Greek mythology by Homer when he wrote The Odyssey and her origin wasn't really talked about, and very little was written about her after that. A few authors came out after Homer to expand a bit on her story. What was mostly agreed upon from their writings is that her father was the god Atlas and her mother was the sea nymph Pleione - and nymphs are mortal. That would make Calypso a demigod, which are not immortal and can die. They can live a very long life and can be very powerful, but they can die. There are other sources that suggest both her parents were gods, but that's less agreed upon and wouldn't be considered "canon" for a lack of better words. Most agree that Calypso spent like 50-100 years sitting at the shore hoping for Odysseus to return, and when he didn't the heartbreak drove her to take her own life.

Oh yeah, and I forgot to say that the musical concept EPIC took quite a few artistic liberties when they wrote many of these songs and a lot of the little details strayed away from The Odyssey. And even more artistic liberties were taken in the animations. I don't have any problem with this because that's literally how Greek mythology evolved over time. But I'd just suggest to take EPIC with a grain of salt when you wonder how close it is to the original The Odyssey. I loved it either way and think they did a great job bringing a nearly 3000 year old story into the 21st century.
@samanthadrakos Right, but I'm talking about canon to EPIC specifically. It's very clearly stated in LIP that Calypso is a goddess and she can't die. I think other authors expanding on Calypso's story is interesting, but I just wanted to add a clarification for EPIC.
@qwerty_qwerty I guess I don't understand what you mean. LIP as well as all of the songs in EPIC were written by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. Being that he took a lot of artistic liberties when writing the lyrics, that means there's nothing canon about any of the songs in EPIC. And there have been no other releases or remakes of EPIC to compare versions. So... like... EPIC in its entirety is just canon to itself.
Unless you're trying to say that "goddesses can't die" is not an original lyric in the musical?? Like, the singer just threw it in there for funzies? If that's what you're saying, then yes that lyric is original. The lyrics were written by JRH and the singers were all hired through a company to sing these specific lyrics. So, again, the whole of EPIC is canon to itself.
If that's not what you mean then I'm totally confused.

Omg I hadnt listend to epic the musical before id just heard a couple songs and this is quiet possibly the best thing I've found in the last two years it allowed me to sit down and watch it and I loved that there where subtitles that didn't take away from it and I loved seeing all the different animators styles this is awesome

THANK YOU. This is amazing!!!!!! I was wishing this kind of thing existed. The way you chose the best parts of every animatic. The ONE thing I hope you include if you make a complete version with the Ithaca saga is the hand letting the baby go at the end of Gigi’s “Just a Man” animatic. It’s included in their combined “Horse and the Infant/Just a Man” video. It’s such a pivotal moment and it makes it clear that Ody did in fact kill the infant. But seriously be proud, this is the BEST way to experience the musical right now!
