reminds me of good old China where they spiked the underpass to prevent hobos squatting there but pose major safety issues for drivers as if an accident occurs, they'll be grated like cheese.
Aden, congratulations on an intelligent and thought provoking monologue on the subject of homelessness and the issues they face. I used to live in Singapore, and I'm sad to see this issue is not being addressed, having previously held the view that this wondeful country takes care of it's citizens and is a model for others. I am so disappointed to see the ideals I had believed to be held dear, now discarded and forgotten. Thank God for the likes of you, inspiring and educating future generations. Please continue your amazing work! So very proud of you Aden. The very best of luck to you. xx
Thank you. There are still a lot of good things about Singapore, but having dug under the skin of this country in making these videos, I've found the old thinking that this country is a shining city on a hill to be a little bit flat.
Oh wow! I didn't even think about the sink thing, but now that you mention it, public bathrooms, especially those in parks, have been installing those for a long while now.
Informative, empathetic and raised some good points I hadn't thought abt as a person interested in hostile architecture and urban design. Plus a funny tag 👍
Thanks 4 bringing awareness 2 subjects a lot of people just don't consider. Where I live in far north Australia there is a large homeless population & instead of doing more 2 help the govt is making things harder, introducing the benches that u showed & also wavy benches that look pretty cool but r impossible 2 sleep on. I know cos I've tried. Love the content & presentation style. Keep it up mate & I will continue 2 watch. ✌️
I believe that instead of creating these types of hostile architectures in our society, in our world we should ameliorate the cause of homelessness. When did we stop being sympathetic to our fellow man?
When people stopped living without purpose. You have people raised without ethics, who lack talent, and are taught to suck the govt teet until it stops giving. That's why.
Thank u so much for spreading awareness! Engrossing it beautiful! Ur a true rockstar! So much knowledge about such a grim topic! Have to spread this around!
i know of these chairs appearing in europe a decade ago. and I hate that our government doesn't have brains of their own and just copy them without care. singapore is not lke other country, we serve 2 year national service, and should it come to that one day when we have to fight for our home, imagine our injure soldier can't even lie down on our bench to rest... it just stupid.
Yup. Publicly, no company will ever admit that. But there's not always oversight for paying overtime, and if the job you're given isn't contracted or is just placed through an agency, things can get very loop-holery, especially for disable people. Even legally, the lowest minimum wage is by monthly and only for cleaners and security guards, only because those are the most common jobs for homeless. And even then, there are grey areas on work hours.
Are there shelters or half-way houses catered specifically to this demographic? Temporarily house them, feed them, get them trained to fit particular jobs & to find permanent accommodation
There are, but these kind of places in conservative countries always have hoops to jump through that makes them hard to use. In Singapore, shelters aren't open 24/7, and a portion of them don't have food. So people will still have to work, sometimes far away from the shelter, and a lot of time during night shifts when the shelters are open, and sleep in the day when they are close. The most common jobs for homeless and unhoused people are security guards and janitors, both which have night shifts. That's because these shelters are volunteers, and receive very little public funding. In countries with less focus on conservative and capitalistic policies, shelters can more likely be 24/7 and publicly funded, which is far better at reassignment and training.
You can not be EVERYTHING to EVERYONE! It’s either constructed in a way that’s conducive to laying down or ONLY conducive to SITTING! That’s primarily why the country is starting to FALL APART, because it tries to caters to EVERY ILL CONCEIVED IDEA and WHIM!! Although he means well, This man’s rationale is FLAWED and dysregulated! Thanks. You know what, I'm going to change it, even though there's nothing wrong, just so I don't have to keep answering this. Or should I keep the S so I get more engagements? But if you're wondering, "That" is a third person singular. Even if the previous word is plural, it is a modifier that can change it to singular by turning it into a single group. In this case, hate will be past tense, while hates is present. And since they continue to hate, they hates. If we stop making the benches, they become hate. It's not an issue of plural or singular, but a rule change in third person singular.

I don't pay taxes for homeless people to take up space, devalue the area, and promote a negligent lifestyle. The homeless shelters we pay for are empty, because this is a mental health issue. Letting them sleep on a bench isn't going to help them. The endless bending of everything in favor of the homeless except real solutions has become intolerable and will come to an abrupt end.

We don't have as many spikes, but there are sloped embankment with holes to make sleeping there backbreaking.
pretty sure that was started by europe... france to be exact.
You're quickly becoming one of my new favorite channels. Love your thoughtful videos and perspectives. Looking forward to all your new content!
Thank you! I hope I can keep up the quality.

We have had these in England for a long time along with sinks you can't wash your face in.
Oh wow! I didn't even think about the sink thing, but now that you mention it, public bathrooms, especially those in parks, have been installing those for a long while now.

Thanks! The funny parts are of course, the most important parts.

Less than 5 an hour! That’s a child’s wage.

Good video.
FYI, English >
1 Bench = (Hates)
2 Benches = Hate *
Thanks.

It should have been Hate...not Hates though.

Can you expand upon what you mean by “negligent lifestyle”? Genuinely asking, not trolling.
