Bro i was so suprrised when i first fought the thing. Me being the guy with over 2000 hours my buddy who was new was like what do i do? Im like well ive never seen the thing but its a jet so try to out turn it. He was like well it out turned me and killed me. I was like what if i try to outspeed it. And i pretty much did. Its a very confusing vehicle because it doesnt fit the fast but can't turn style of the early jets.

Remember when the ki10 could helicopter climb straight up? Yeah, they fix that and gave that ability to yaks. Its kinda wierd that their are the only planes in game that has a perfect instructor that helps keep your guns on target even in a stall.. if they stall, which the yak3u just doesnt xD
If you are in a vertical stall duel in a P59 with similar energy against a solid turn fighter, as you approach full stall, the P59 has good roll authority that can be used to flip your turn to horizontal. With flaps deployed you can retain full control, leaving them to struggle or flop around before pouncing as you follow their drop through the middle of your turn into a dive. Fuel load also makes a huge difference against Spits and A6M* variants. 8 minutes doesn't last long, but there is little the P59 can't handle in it's BR range if their only trick is to keep pulling back on the stick.
Fun fact: The P-59 was fitted with a fake prop so that ground crews wouldn't question it. The pilot also wore a gorilla suit and bowler hat, and smoked a cigar while flying it. He would approach fighter formations, wave, and fly away.
This thing was actually made during the war and was built around 2 years prior to Germany first using the Me262. The US was going to put them into service by 1944 but the performance to cost wasn’t great compared to the existing fighter props we had. It was canned in the end, because it was a waste of materials. Just like the German Jet fighters ended up being.
If Yak's performed like their real life counterparts they wouldnt be anywhere near the plane they currently are in the game. Yak's werent bad by any means, but they werent even close to being as good as they are un war thunder.
I watched a mini documentary about the Mig 23 and how it wasn't nearly as good as the soviets hoped it would. The F4 phantom was still better than them in performance I think. Of course, in Gaijin's War Thunder, the Mig 23 absolutely dominated until the F14 was added
The Yaks are mostly as good as they are because they’re lower BR than most of their contemporaries. For example, the Yak-1 has the M-105PF engine, which was introduced into service in the middle of 1942, so that variant of the Yak would be about contemporary with the Bf 109F-4; I think the PF engine entered service a little bit later, even. However, it’s at 2.3 along with the Bf 109E-3, which saw most of its action in 1940.

I remeber when the P-59 was sold on the Market for 20$. I picked it up because I missed the event. I've never had so much fun with an aircraft. I think Gajin has just forgotten about it because with flaps this thing TUUUUUUUURNS. Love this thing.
That stuttering is a new occurrence and I'm glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing it. Lowering graphics settings helps, and moving from my SATA ssd to m.2 helped a bit as well
For stuttering in the game, check to see if other apps that are running such as your browser are using "hardware acceleration" and turn it off in their settings if they are. That helped me at least.
Fighting Tigers with it is hilarious, i've seen a few of them get angry after being killed by them even though the only redeeming factor is the ATGM which is really good. Makes a really fun lineup with the Strikemaster, G6, Charioteer, FV4005 and Tortoise too
Now that the MILAN missile launcher has a separate view scope, just barely exposing the launcher from behind cover is so much nicer to do and much cheesier, but hey! It was a struggle bus to begin with!
Over the following months, tests on the prototypes and pre-production P-59s revealed a multitude of problems including poor engine response and reliability , poor lateral and directional stability at speeds over 290 mph (470 km/h), so that it tended to "snake" and was a poor gunnery platform. I unlocked this thing back when it came out for Operation SUMMER alongside the AUBL HVG during my time in college. Still have it and it used to be one of my favourite 4.7s in the game before the BR increase. It's still got a bug where you can go mach 1 in certain scenarios and still turn on a dime without wingripping :^) Game Engine Physics miscalcuations ftw.

Issue is, if you do literally any maneuvour other than a straight pull up and if you stay too long in the dive or twitch even slightly in the dive you'll wingrip or the game engine won't break in the right way and you'll lose your speed oddly. It's something to do with either Axis Angles or Euler Angles. You'll probably be able to pull it off best in a custom server tbh, it's a pain in the ass to do now in live battles because of enemies swarming you or something stupid. Though the admission is it's two mathematical errors at once. You don't *go true mach 1*, the game engine just thinks you do. You only go like 750-880km/h now. It used to be true mach 1 (1185+km/h) at a less harsh angle (though pulling out of this was near impossible and yet still scared the shit out of Yak-9 pilots lmao). It was a little known issue caused by giving the P-59A too much or too little stats in certain categories related to the engine, wings, control surfaces and pilot.
I play it comfortably against 7.7 jets in ground matches. It can't keep up, but if they are dumb enough to scrub speed or attempt a turn, it's often over quickly.
This was the first ever event vehicle that I got, except for the Little pakpuma that you had to get before receiving the p59. It was so worth it. That turn time is gnarly
When you want to do that maneuver to drain its energy, try to make circular turns as you go up, like a whirlpool (try not to be in range to avoid lucky shots), You should always consider that everyone can outlast you trying to shoot you, so take it easy when you want to do those maneuvers.
Its at the same rank of some props, so I get your confusion, but its BR is 6.7, The ME262 would be OP at lower than 7.0 because its quite descent of a plane if you know how to fly it, though with the 50 mm its not as practical so it got 0.3 lower. The HE162 is 6.0 which in my book is close enough.

Around 9.0 you can be a flareless jet fighting all aspects.
I had this plane for over a year and I still dont think I have a single kill with it, I always just get 1 shot by some 109 I never saw or gunned down by a spitfire
Israel’s meteor is best at 7.3 and wing mounted 20mms instead of nose in the others . Thing can turn and go fast and climb , it’s one of the few allrounders that does a really good job at all , the worst thing about it is the 20mms but once you get used to them it’s one of the best non missile jets
This is a perfect example of how Yak 3’s are busted with their BS infinite energy retention and pulling energy out of nowhere. Of course since they’re Russian, it won’t be patched.

Buying a vehicle I think is cool every now and then is no big deal. To each their own though, if you’re making minimum wage or something it would certainly be a bad decision financially but I have excess to spare on top of putting into savings each week.

That thing is broken and always has been. Needs to be bumped to 6.0 or 6.3. If you meet one that has an altitude advantage, you're most likely going to die. It's an energy fighter that turns pretty well. If the guy flying it is any good, you're going to WEP your engine to death trying to stay out of his guns, or make a mistake and he's going to go verticle and then roll over on you and you're dead. The only prop that can really handle it well in good hands is the Spitfire Mk 24, and it's a full BR higher.
There was a P-59B Past to devs years ago. And someone found a different model in the game files for it at one point in the last two years. So maybe. But you never know. Technically Britain had 1 as well. They got it in exchange for a Meteor.
Another vehicle not performing as it should, well done gaijin. Irl pilots said it was extremely unruly and heavy to fly, yet this can outturn almost everything it sees

16:06 you gave the yak the time yo gain speed, Russians mostly perform better at low heights such as bellow 4 to 3.5 Km, clearly you are under those circumstances, the yak 3U is really good to gain speed tremendously fast and also can turn and stalk really good, it's a Yak of all trades, and even if you have altitude to "safely" engage the yak, you have using wrongly the plane because of the fact that can't climb very well, every vertical maneuver will cost you a lot of energy and speed, so turn horizontally, you had luck with the A7M, if you stick to horizontal turn fights you will beat even spitfires and zeros the catch is to drain them some speed and abuse the p59 energy when turning side to side, so no, the yak did nothing unusual you committed mistakes and that pilot took advantage of them.

That thing is broken and always has been. Needs to be bumped to 6.0 or 6.3. If you meet one that has an altitude advantage, you're most likely going to die. It's an energy fighter that turns pretty well. If the guy flying it is any good, you're going to WEP your engine to death trying to stay out of his guns, or make a mistake and he's going to go verticle and then roll over on you and you're dead. The only prop that can really handle it well in good hands is the Spitfire Mk 24, and it's a full BR higher.

There was a P-59B Past to devs years ago. And someone found a different model in the game files for it at one point in the last two years. So maybe. But you never know. Technically Britain had 1 as well. They got it in exchange for a Meteor.

16:06 you gave the yak the time yo gain speed, Russians mostly perform better at low heights such as bellow 4 to 3.5 Km, clearly you are under those circumstances, the yak 3U is really good to gain speed tremendously fast and also can turn and stalk really good, it's a Yak of all trades, and even if you have altitude to "safely" engage the yak, you have using wrongly the plane because of the fact that can't climb very well, every vertical maneuver will cost you a lot of energy and speed, so turn horizontally, you had luck with the A7M, if you stick to horizontal turn fights you will beat even spitfires and zeros the catch is to drain them some speed and abuse the p59 energy when turning side to side, so no, the yak did nothing unusual you committed mistakes and that pilot took advantage of them.
