I’ve been trying to find this episode forever. I’m from Philadelphia and this is where I discovered Andrea McCardle. I’m not even sure I knew of Annie at the time or even what Broadway was. Then Andrea sang Tomorrow on this show and I was blown away. I wish that part was included in this part. I guess I had never seen someone my age have this voice and talent.
Do you know what address Andrea McArdle she was like new girl she was doing documents 📄 posts gallery photos from hollywood mail on her tablet take over UA-cam channel and me too Derek Llewellyn feel like talking over
Amazing because Andrea was always the one they would have sing. To showcase Reid Shelton here is fantastic. Never realized what a charming Warbucks he was!

I was luck enough to meet Ms.Loudon in NYC..before she left us..she was nothing like"Ms.Aggie Hannigan"..she was a sweet, talented and kindly person..(Crying)I still miss her.
@@hurttoy29 I heard that too. Heard that she wanted the kids and dog kept far away from her backstage. This may just be a nasty rumor but I did watch something on UA-cam where she had won her Tony Award for this (Andrea was also nominated for the same award but lost to her) and Ms. Loudon did not even say 'thank you' to Andrea or mention her.
Wasn’t common in 1977 to videotape Broadway shows for commercial viewing by the public. Still isn’t common today except for special broadcasts but even less so back then when the technology was a lot more expensive and cumbersome, and very few households owned the proper tech to watch video. Probably the biggest reason it rarely happens is the impact on ticket sales. Annie’s original run might have lasted years longer were it not for the 1982 movie. I read there was an archival copy of a videotaped performance from the original production at the NY Public Library at one time. I wonder if its ever been digitized. It was not this original 1977 cast though.
There were definitely be in archival recording in the Library of Congress which you could only do one time and you have to present wanting to view it. Filming's of Broadway musicals for commercial viewing was very uncommon back then and still sort of is although it happens more now than it did back then. Typically when a Broadway show is filmed live it's usually a broadcast done specifically for television much like what you see with the NBC musicals. Annie will finally be filmed live but it will be a broadcast made-for-television on NBC.
Andrea was amazing awesome as Annie but did you know she played the young Judy Garland in the 1978 tv movie Rainbow ? Well she did and she did a awesome job but she can not compare to Judy but still has so much talent !
Do you have Stephane Mills Performance of Home? I believe she was also on this specific special. The Wiz won 7 Tony awards but there is barely any performance from the original run.
I wonder about the stories of her hating kids in real life and not loving all the orphans running around backstage. Andrea says Dorothy wasn’t a fan of children but that the two of them got along quite well. A bit ironic if she hated children and her breakthrough show was Annie.
@@tomorrowmorning8360 I have it on good authority that she was awful to the kids, as you can see in the video, she seems a bit unstable. But an amazing talent who helped make the show a success. Andrea is just charming in this video.
Andrea was about 13 here and it wasn’t considered disrespectful at all to refer to a child or teenager that age as “little one.” Mike Douglas, like Merv Griffin, was a supporter of Andrea’s talent and early fame and had her back on the show more than once. There’s no disrespect. And he didn’t ask her how she was doing, in some condescending way. He asked her how long she planned on staying with the show and it was a sincere question.

Awww it’s always so special to see footage of my great uncle Reid, I always wished I could’ve met him!
I've always wanted to meet him too! I played one of his roles once and put a note in my bio in the program dedicating my performance to him.
@@kennethwayne6857 that’s so heartwarming 🥹 it means so much to me that our family has touched your life. He was so talented and ahead of his time!

Wow! His voice is phenomenal. And he has that twinkle in his eye. He lights up the stage.
Andrea McArdle had, and still has, one of the most beautiful and most powerful singing voices in musical theatre.

I think she sang also but it’s not on this clip
Thats what made Mike Douglas different in so many ways.

I saw them all and they were GREAT... THE SHOW... HAD. IT. ALL.
Are you related to Kristi by any chance? She was my first Molly in Chicago.
An absolutely marvelous interview! Three marvelous actors each shine with talent and great honesty. Great job Mike Douglas!

My first Broadway show with this cast! Great memories. Thanks for posting this.
Mine too!
Loved watching this clip...thanks for posting Alan !!!
Thank you SO much for putting this up. I have never seen it before.
This was amazing thanks for posting
Thanks for the upload.
Reid Shelton - what a champ! He was brilliant in this show...
Reid Shelton, who died in '93, was already an establishment musical theatre performer with credits such as Enoch in CAROUSEL and Charlie in BRIGADOON.
I was his press agent. Wonderful man.
Reid Shelton was amazing!
Wow! Have never seen this!
Uncle Mike was the best at doing interviewing. Sad hes not with us anymore.
I would totally wear this outfit today!
Dorothy Loudom, Andrea Mcardle and the man who played daddy Warwick’s seem perfect for their part.
Need to find the second part.......
why oh why isn't there a version of the original broadway Annie available to purchase???
There may be a video recording somewhere, but probably only for archival purposes. The original cast recording of the music is available.

I remember this, she was even wearing her Dorthy costume and all. I would love to see it again. The Wiz was all over NYC at that time. It was a WOW

Stephanie and Andrea were on the mike douglas show together in 1977. Stephanie sang "Home"
And andrea sang "Maybe" ❤
I've seen a very grainy copy of the original production out here.
That's a handsome young lady
I could see Andrea McCardle in Sweeney Todd and Mame.
I think she’s done Mame in a regional production

She was known to really whack the 'Annie' actresses with the paddle harder than she was supposed to...
She looks and sounds like Ricky Schroeder circa 1982
She has far more talent than he and is not nearly such an a-hole.

Coach Larnido
He is so disrespectful to all of the guests. " How are you doing little one" ? Seriously
I don’t see any disrespect at all, and I’m sure that saying “little one” to a child was perfectly acceptable back then. This was 46 years ago!
