I was lucky enough to meet Ms.Loudon in NYC..years ago..unlike her evil character in"Annie"she was a sweet and kindly person..(Crying)I still miss you..Dorothy.
She was simply magnificent! Thank God she got the TONY for ANNIE! It would have been criminal not to have that award considering all she did in Musical Theatre, not forgetting her past TONY losses, two to Angela Lansbury!
If you are having a bad day, or otherwise down on life....watch this lady win a TONY and her reaction and speech. You will forget about your troubles for a bit, and may forget why you were down!! She would be great at a party.
It was one of the best musical comedy performances I ever saw. She did so much to win! Little nuances in the sexy comedy she gave, and the "I hate Annie asides."It was a fresh, true book musical at a time when Broadway was kind of dark. Hard to believe it was almost 40 years ago.
Stannorton you are so lucky! How would you describe her performance in “Annie”? I grew up listening to it, but boy I just would have loved to see her in it!!
I worked with Miss Loudon in the mid-80s when she graciously donated her talent to appear in a benefit performance for the Off-Broadway L.O.O.M. (Light Opera of Manhattan) at Playhouse 91 in New York. She was a delight in person - as bright and bubbly and as funny and friendly as you think she would be from seeing her on stage. ❤
Now this is one of the most gracious and authentic accepted speeches in the entire history of award shows. This woman couldn't be fake if her life depended on it. Not remotely pretentious like so many actresses today who act like they are giving another performance when they pick up an award... Streep being number one on that list
One of my favorite films! The other bits, by Hermione Gingold, Howard da Silva, Harvey Fierstein, Ed Crowley, Adolph Green and Betty Comden are also marvelous.
I always thought Dorothy Loudon and Barbara Feldon were beautiful women and now I realize there was actually a physical resemblance. // As sweet as this acceptance speech was, it is notable in one way: she did not mention her co-star in "Annie" -- Andrea McArdle. (Did she?) ! ! !
She could have said something about her co-star, the other Lead in Annie Obviously she was overcome in emotions, but a nod to her Co Star would have been nice, especially after she asked who she forgot to Thank
Seemed very odd that she didn't hug McArdle on the way by, or even thank her specifically, as the title character in the piece AND fellow nominee in the category. There must be more to this story.
Mark Raphaelson I wondered about that also. Did they not get along that well? Dorothy was such a talented, dazzling personality-how could anyone not love her?
@Mark Raphaelson I can’t see Andrea near her in the audience. Where is she? I see someone with reddish curly hair in a blue dress but Andrea’s hair is not naturally curly and wore a wig on stage. She put the wig on backstage toward the end of the Annie performance but I doubt she went back out into the audience with it on? Maybe she did. I do think she should have acknowledged her during her speech as a co-nominee. Maybe she was caught up in the moment. Andrea says she loved Dorothy and even though Dorothy didn’t like children very much, they got along.
Why should she thank a bunch of kids? All those fake hugs and blabla at award shows is mostly bullshit anyhow....Loudon had been working at her career for 25 years the hard way...all those flops ..let her have her moment..she deserved it
@nondescript No one’s denying how deserving she was of the award, her success, & her moment, nor suggesting she thank “a bunch of kids”. Andrea McArdle was not just one of “a bunch of kids”. She played the main character of the show. She was the lead. The show is called “Annie”, remember? It’s not called “Miss Hannigan”. McArdle was one of the reasons the show was a hit, according to the producing team. “As soon as she took over the role, the entire context of the show changed” according to Martin Charnin. She was Dorothy’s co-star, the relationship between their two characters playing an important factor in the plot. No one heard Dorothy on pop radio in 1977. They heard Andrea signing “Tomorrow”, drawing interest and ticket sales to the show that helped pull Dorothy and her great talents out of her history of flops. Also, Andrea was Dorothy’s CO-NOMINEE for this award. And the two reportedly got along well during the show. It seems disrespectful and a significant oversight for her to not at least give the young lady a quick mention. But she deserves the benefit of the doubt that she was caught up in her moment, she’s obviously overwhelmed and at 2:56 asks the crowd to remind her who to thank.
She's a very talented woman, but I've heard she was awful to the kids in that show, especially Andrea McArdle. Maybe it was method acting lol, who knows, but I was disappointed when I found that out.
@Matt Stryker Andrea tells it differently. She was definitely not a fan of children and was vocal about it, but she indeed did get along with Andrea and seemed to like her a lot.
@@Jonathanbroder she thanked "The Company" that includes the whole cast and crew. It was too many people for her to name individually. Also since McArdle was also nominated for the same award I think it was smart for her not to mention the other actress because it would've seemed like she was gloating. IMO.
Dorothy Loudon should have lived forever. Even her acceptance speech is a great stage performance.
Cancer eventually got to her she left 2 stepchildren as survivors
It doesnt get ANY better!
And imagine just being announced by Bea!!! Dorothy is really something special. I am sure that these two are having a blast !
I was lucky enough to meet Ms.Loudon in NYC..years ago..unlike her evil character in"Annie"she was a sweet and kindly person..(Crying)I still miss you..Dorothy.
I think she was one o f the most talented musical actreeses in our era
She was simply magnificent! Thank God she got the TONY for ANNIE! It would have been criminal not to have that award
considering all she did in Musical Theatre, not forgetting her past TONY losses, two to Angela Lansbury!
That's one of the longest ovations I've ever seen for a winning performance!
Omy. Dorothy, what a treasure.
"Let's hear it!" LOVE IT! No false modesty there. This was her moment and she was loving it.
If you are having a bad day, or otherwise down on life....watch this lady win a TONY and her reaction and speech. You will forget about your troubles for a bit, and may forget why you were down!! She would be great at a party.
OMG. Dot Loudon's speech absolutely made my day today. I'm laughing and crying. Thank GOD somebody posted this.
i absolutely adore her. even her acceptance speech feels award-worthy in it of itself haha. what a legend and powerhouse of talent ❤
What a wonderful lady. She should have lived forever, as was said in a comment here.

Two greats: Beatrice Arthur and Dorothy Loudon.
A well deserved win.
Such a truly talented lady - thanks for sharing this removed reminder of a one of a kind funny lady!
I had the privilege of seeing Dorothy Loudon in Annie and Noises OFF. Wonderful.
Stannorton you are so lucky! How would you describe her performance in “Annie”? I grew up listening to it, but boy I just would have loved to see her in it!!

NOW here was a SHOWMAN.. HILLARIOUS, but with class, sincerity and warmth!!
One in a million no one can ever come close🎉

Oh, how wonderful!
Classic Dorothy
Well deserved !!!
Best acceptance speech ever! :)
My fav part of this was Bea Arthur! God she was just the best.
she's Great in a bit in "Garbo Talks" 1984 superb!
One of my favorite films! The other bits, by Hermione Gingold, Howard da Silva, Harvey Fierstein, Ed Crowley, Adolph Green and Betty Comden are also marvelous.
Dorothy Loudon is also superb @@jasonhurd4379
As far as I know , Bacall is not in Garbo Talks. I've seen the film 10 times.
lmao what a fantastic speech!
I miss Dorothy!

She didn't mention any of the other nominees; however, she did mention her wonderful "company" of which McArdle was a member.
one thing i've learned from yt: 70s was a very blurry decade
She could have played Bette Midler’s mother in a film. Bea Arthur could have played Miss Hannigan. 😀
Annie.
She could have said something about her co-star, the other Lead in Annie
Obviously she was overcome in emotions, but a nod to her Co Star would have been nice, especially after she asked who she forgot to Thank
she reminds me of Ellen Burstyn .... E.B. could play her in something
I forgot Andrea McArdle was nominated!
Best ever
Did she mention the cast at all?
she did. Eating cheese and wine. And the crew.
Seemed very odd that she didn't hug McArdle on the way by, or even thank her specifically, as the title character in the piece AND fellow nominee in the category. There must be more to this story.

She hated little girls! That's why was such a phenomenal Miss Hannigan.
Dot Loudon still owes my Aunt Irene $30.
Bea Arthur seems to want to control Dorothy and the moment a little too much.
Have they pulled this? It doesn't come up.
Annies mother
As usual, Hannigan beats Annie.
NO SOUND????????????????
Miss hannigan was not mean
Obviously A MEAGER SEASON on BW
Pretty much. Annie, I Love My Wife, and the revivals of Porgy and Bess and Guys and Dolls were the only new musicals worth watching that season.
She's a very talented woman, but I've heard she was awful to the kids in that show, especially Andrea McArdle. Maybe it was method acting lol, who knows, but I was disappointed when I found that out.

An episode of Theater Talk confirmed that Dorothy was nasty to the kids.
@@films5555 Maybe she was a Method actress. LeeAnne Strasberg was a real stickler for working Method. Never cross her.
