Back in the late '80's I played in band that played mostly Thorogood and ZZ Top songs along with a smattering of Southern rock. Did lots of gigs because of this stuff. Thanks George!

I saw George Thorogood with his band several times at the Emerald City in New Jersey... and his sound was addictive. It was like hitting a main line to my heart and soul... and the crowd went crazy... grooving, dancing, thoroughly immersed in spectacular pleasure. He's very modest and underated. I had all his albums but I lost them all in Miami when Hurricane Andrew wiped me out of everything including his albums and CDs. When he toured with the Rolling Stones it was a perfect match. I saw almost every performer that he mentioned...some several times. Thoroughgood had something unique. I know he liked adding horns and such but I liked him best as a three-piece band. His concerts were energizing like rocket fuel.
George doesn’t get enough credit. He’s been rockin for 50 years. No singer songwriter album, no rock anthem, no bullshit. Just down and dirty blues based rock and roll. I found John Lee Hooker cause George mention him on a live album. I owe him for that if he had never plaid a lick.
First heard George while on a bicycle trip in the early 80’s. I was on a ferry going from Hairich UK to the Hook of Holland. There was a kid from Australia on board and he was playing Bad to the Bone. Never forget that night and years later I got to see George preform at Massey Hall in Toronto
I have had the pleasure of watching him play live. Definitely one of the hardest working players performing. Since I have watched several of these interviews on UA-cam I realized he is a very knowledgeable music historian. Absolutely love his humor and humble attitude.
What a fascinating listen! Been a huge fan of George’s since I first heard his incredible Delaware Slide on Radio London’s great ‘Honky Tonk’ program way back in 1977. That extraordinary track has so many influences from old Blues guitar masters that it just takes you on a journey, a historical journey through the Delta Blues landscape… it’s a truly remarkable recording. Watching George in this video is a revelation… he’s so humble & generous with praise for fellow guitarists… including one Micheal Philip Jagger… I mean, who knew?!!
I saw him in Cincinnati, Ohio back in the 90's I think was. Maybe late 80's . I was born in '67 and started playing guitar at 5 and was , and have been preforming since I was young and then in a blues/rock band by my teens and George was one if my heros, so there was no way I was going to miss seeing George . I just HAD to see him . Anyways, it was a small venue, which was great, I think it was called Bogarts, we used to see a lot of shows there . Mr. George put on an excellent performance, he'd talk a little here and there between some songs , funny stories & anecdotes about his experiences and his past or maybe the history behind a certain song or his technique and the early years of the band . Not only a great performer, I'm telling ya, the man is also a born story teller, lol very informal atmosphere, very close, personal feel in that small bar, almost more like just hanging out in someone's garage during their band practice or something lol . It was a great time, one of my favorite memories. ✌
College concert, late '70's, fixed-seat auditorium... soon as George opens up there's a rush to the stage (security? What security?) George trapped us all on our shoulders with his guitar!!! A few tunes later I jumped up on stage and danced (Elaine Benes style 🤣) with George and the band!! Priceless memories!!!
Thank you for sharing this - great video - Blue Highway is my favourite George T song. I love old Hank Williams too - he was a genius...as were all the others George mentioned. George is so lovely and humble. Yeah, Hank Williams junior is cut snake crazy but he's harmless enough LOL. I'm a picker - the old Australian cowboys taught me...they learnt from the Americans who were stationed in Australia during WWII and from the American cowboys when they went over to compete against them in rodeo. I strum too but mostly do real country picking. I can't use a guitar pick either - it's more natural to play without one. I play with a slide too...makes the guitar 'speak' to you. I do real traditional country...my daughter is into more of the bluesy rock. George has developed such a GREAT sound - he makes his guitar SING. A guitar is like a horse...you have to show it who's boss LOL. All I can say is that most good music today comes from humble country pickin' roots. People in Australia absolutely ADORE George but most have no idea where his great sound came from. The first time I ever heard George's music, I was 15 and I just thought - GENIUS...that is the raw, pure sound of America. He's taken many different elements & rolled them all up into his own unique style - a bit like a hot burrito LOL. The end result is that his sound epitomises the sound of America - and he's so humble about it all - he's just a great guy with a really great sound. So lovely to see that despite all his success, he's remained forever humble - Muddy Waters & all the rest would be SO proud of George because they were all humble people too :-)
George Thorogood changed my life. I heard that first album when I was 12 and I wanted to learn to play the guitar because of "Kind Hearted Woman". I went back in time and discovered Robert Johnson Muddy Waters. I loved the Stones already so it was just natural. Fantastic stories.
As a Hip Hop head, this is the only rock band I listen to, among some Howlin Wolf. George Thorogood is one hip cat and is criminally underrated as a fantastic musician.

I remember Bad to the Bone being the first rock sound that really got my attention as a kid. The sound of his guitar was so familiar yet different at the same time.
Saw him live between a then unkown 'Prince' and The Who at the LA Forum in ('82?). Prince got bood, but then came back out and shredded out of pure anger. Even with his "chain saw tone", he was an awesome and stabilizing force.
What a treat thank you, yes I saw you a few years back at Ravinia north of Chicago I was doing security and was assigned to the stairs leading up to the stage where you and Buddy Guy walked down into the crowed. I had to make sue no one bum rushed the stage snd you were right in front of me playing it was awesome.
Been to 1/2 dozen of George & the Destroyer’s shows. Loved when he was touring with Brian Setzer. It doesn’t get any better than hard rocking blues masters. Huge fan!
Always thought it so funny that George does NOT use slide on One Bourbon .. despite the line, "I asked my landlady one time if I could maybe slide .. " ("she said, 'no'") .. or something to that effect ... What a perfect opportunity to really hit that slide in the tune .. 👍

This is soooooo good. As a musician it's so GREAT to hear George give away all the secrets. He's beautiful. As a blues/boogie piano player I know about 100 songs, but when you break it down I really know about 5 tops. Just keep turning it around. This was such a fun interview and he's so right. I've seen John Hammond a couple times and what great advice: I ain't John Hammond. George Thorogood finds himself. What a great lesson. You can only be yourself. I drool when I see people play what I can't, but I shouldn't. Many musicians make that error. Just be yourself. This was great.

Smack in the middle of the Missisisippi Delta 20 mikes south of Clarksdale and 20 miles north of Jackson. It’s crazy. My dad listen to Muddy and Howlin. I was listening to Zep,Beatles,Stones,Allman Brothers. I wanted to play Like them. But life has its issues. So many years later. Im Diving into the Blues. Love it. My new song. Going to Belzoni. Right on George. Hwy 49. Right through Belzoni.

Humble and he Honours those great blues artists gone before us. Great sound aswell. Very interesting link between the acoustic guitar and the electric guitar and that big sound right hand style in-between. Great video. To see him perform you kind of get a cocky impression of him. But watching this video has given me a whole new level of respect and think the world of him. Im a flat picker blues person. I love blues leads using blue noted pentatonic scales but now going to try picking like this. I do have a banjo I pick from time to time so maybe I got it in me to learn this style

For everyone that's ever referred to This talented guy as 3 Chord George...they know little about music, guitars, guitar playing or guitarist. This guy made a living out of playing in a style that very few could emulate and reserved for all the great American guitar pioneers. It's why nobody really sounds like him in this age of music. He's being to Humble here...
Don't get me wrong he's a good blues guitar player but not much more than that in my opinion. His influences are the greats, the people I look up to as a guitar player and songwriter. Nothing wrong with what he did, I would too if I could rip licks like that!
@@matthewcoolbaugh285 true...he isn't Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher but slide guitar is incredibly hard to play and pull off (its extremely sensitive) Its why most just dabble in it from time to time on a track but never really master it. If so you would hear alot more of it. But I respect your input👍🏻g-day mate!
One thing I've noticed about so many great players is their unconventionality. How they hold the pic, IF they use a pick, how they play slide, how they tune their instrument, how they set their amps, how they finger chords, how they bend. It's all these little details that are part of the journey to discovering the kind of player you are meant to be. Much of it comes from our influences, but sooner or later it all shapes your approach to guitar. Don't worry about convention. Worry about what works for you. That's where the magic happens.

I've watch a ~hundred "lesson" videos, I've learned more from you and Taj Mahal in two than I did in the other 98. Not saying I didn't need the other 98 to appreciate the two, but you make me want to play.
It amazes me how proficient these guys are with finger picking. If you don't know who Jared James Nichols is then I suggest you look him up. He is a killer finger picker also!

I love blues leads using blue noted pentatonic scales but now going to try picking like this. I do have a banjo I pick from time to time so maybe I got it in me to learn this style

For everyone that's ever referred to This talented guy as 3 Chord George...they know little about music, guitars, guitar playing or guitarist. This guy made a living out of playing in a style that very few could emulate and reserved for all the great American guitar pioneers. It's why nobody really sounds like him in this age of music. He's being to Humble here...
Don't get me wrong he's a good blues guitar player but not much more than that in my opinion. His influences are the greats, the people I look up to as a guitar player and songwriter. Nothing wrong with what he did, I would too if I could rip licks like that!
@@matthewcoolbaugh285 true...he isn't Gary Moore or Rory Gallagher but slide guitar is incredibly hard to play and pull off (its extremely sensitive) Its why most just dabble in it from time to time on a track but never really master it. If so you would hear alot more of it. But I respect your input👍🏻g-day mate!

One thing I've noticed about so many great players is their unconventionality. How they hold the pic, IF they use a pick, how they play slide, how they tune their instrument, how they set their amps, how they finger chords, how they bend. It's all these little details that are part of the journey to discovering the kind of player you are meant to be. Much of it comes from our influences, but sooner or later it all shapes your approach to guitar. Don't worry about convention. Worry about what works for you. That's where the magic happens.
