I just made this for my wife's birthday. The cake itself is not very sweet, which she loves. The frosting is the perfect blend of sweet and lemon tart to compliment the cake. I wasn't sure how I would like it having tasted the cake by itself from cuttings before I assembled, but once it was all together it was quite good. Thank you for the recipe! (BTW this was my first ever cake from scratch)

I baked my first cake ever today. This one because it sounded interesting and looked great. I made a few mistakes and the cake wasn't of display quality but it tasted great. Thanks Mistakes: - My pans were too big so it became a two layer cake - I used castor sugar in the frosting instead of icing sugar so the frosting was a bit gritty. I wasn't sure what "powdered sugar" was - I put the frosting on the cake while the sheets were still a bit warm so the frosting melted and I redid it after cooling the cake in the fridge Otherwise, perfect

I must try this cake too. 😇 I have a little tip for you. Lemon zest mix with sugar and stir until sugar is yellow and zest will release aroma. I do it when I bake blueberry lemon cupcakes and it´s 100% better. 🥰
Just making this...it's in the oven, so I'll edit once I get it all together. The reverse creaming method took a year and a day, so I hope that it makes enough difference to be worth the time. Maybe my butter wasn't quite softened enough. I'm going to take it as a dessert for a few of us who are getting together at an open house at a winery we belong to later this afternoon. Blueberries are the last of a bumper crop from our own bushes this year - I've made a couple of batches of muffins and a bunch of jam already, but didn't want to miss out on trying this cake!

Sounds delicious! I have been making a similar cake since the recope was given to me in the mid 1970s. The recipe uses whipping cream instead of butter milk and includes ground walnuts but no lemon in the batter. In addition, the lemon frosting is only between the layers and powdered sugar is dusted on the top. I often make handman paper templates with messages or patterns that I hold over the top while dusting the powderded sugar for celebrative messages. 😋

Yes it can! Make sure you don’t overfill your pan (you may have a little excess batter) and keep an eye on it as I'm not sure how long it will need to bake. The temperature will stay the same 🙂

Looks so good!! I made a lemon blueberry cake a few years ago but will definitely try this recipe out this summer. Quick tip: toss your blueberries in some flour before incorporating into your batter to prevent them from sinking during the baking process!

However, when my grans come over to visit, I often treat them to chilled fresh avocadoes just plucked from my tree - as a healthy high protein KETO friendly alternative to cake. . Sure enough, as soon as they walk through the door, instead of asking for pizza or junk food, they head for the pantry and ask me, "Gwampa, let's have some more of that wundaful gween vedgebul ice cweam pweez." I hand them each a half of an avocaodo and a spoon - . Once they've all had their fill of avocado, we all go outside and plant the avocado seeds in the backyard,, hoping the family dog doesn't dig 'em up and eat 'em 'before they have a chance to add to the earth's sustainable bounty by growing into big new beautiful avocado trees! to match the one I already have. That family dog will eat just about anything. Just this morning, I saw him eating what appeared to be the handle from an old hammer i used about 40 years ago during some DIY renovations to the old shed out back. I've been wondering for a long time what became of that hammer. Now I finally know. The darned thing got buried - probably by either this dog or one of his predecessors. You can also acheive the soft, tender crumb by creaming in the normal fashion, and using cake flour instead of all purpose.

I made this cake with the complementary lemon frosting and it was a huge hit at work! I made a few substitutions to make it vegan and gluten-free and it still came out amazing! Definitely try this recipe.

@@StrewthFroogals I used country crock’s plant based butter and then oat milk instead of buttermilk. For the flour I just used my favorite, Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 baking flour.

Delicious cake. I made it for Mother's Day and it was perfect. I bake a lot and enjoyed the reverse-creaming method. The cakes baked wonderfully and the lemon curd frosting is superb. It was very photogenic as well. 😄

Looks so good!! I made a lemon blueberry cake a few years ago but will definitely try this recipe out this summer. Quick tip: toss your blueberries in some flour before incorporating into your batter to prevent them from sinking during the baking process!

Made this cake. Never used reverse creaming method. Very pleased with the results. A beautiful light moist cake. Lovely favour. Will make it again. I didn't use your icing used another which had blueberry pulp added and no eggs in the icing Worked well

That lemon blueberry cake looks delicious. However, when my grans come over to visit, I often treat them to chilled fresh avocadoes just plucked from my tree - as a healthy high protein KETO friendly alternative to cake. . Sure enough, as soon as they walk through the door, instead of asking for pizza or junk food, they head for the pantry and ask me, "Gwampa, let's have some more of that wundaful gween vedgebul ice cweam pweez." I hand them each a half of an avocaodo and a spoon - . Once they've all had their fill of avocado, we all go outside and plant the avocado seeds in the backyard,, hoping the family dog doesn't dig 'em up and eat 'em 'before they have a chance to add to the earth's sustainable bounty by growing into big new beautiful avocado trees! to match the one I already have. That family dog will eat just about anything. Just this morning, I saw him eating what appeared to be the handle from an old hammer i used about 40 years ago during some DIY renovations to the old shed out back. I've been wondering for a long time what became of that hammer. Now I finally know. The darned thing got buried - probably by either this dog or one of his predecessors.
