Ever thought about doing a lawn submission video where you rate peoples lawns? I think it would be good content for when you don’t have anything to post/colder months
Great points. We put in a new yard and the contractor who did it, really let us down. It was thin and very patchy. Last season I committed to making the yard look as it should have in the first place. UA-cam was a huge helper for me, and that's when I came across your channel. I de-thatched and pulled up a lot of organic material that was choking the grass from growing. We then reseeded (in the Fall) and irrigated like crazy. By the end of the season, we had the greenest and thickest yard in our neighborhood. We get so many compliments on our lawn. This year, I'm looking to build on the improvements made last season. Thanks for the tips!
My pleasure! Thanks for your comment. The best thing to do is poke some holes with either a screwdriver or a garden Fork in the areas where you have dead spots throw some grass seed down and cover it up with some topsoil. To prevent this in the future, you can go out with your dog, and just spray the hose, where your dog peed to dilute the urea that kills the grass
What is the best way to approach spring over seeding? I’m in Chicago suburbs and always struggle to plan what fertilizers, weed killers to use when I want to over seed. And more importantly when to do those things. Any advice?
Hey! You can start seeding around April 15. Rough up the area with a rake or garden weasel then spread the seed evenly. The only herbicide you can use for the weeds while seeding is Tenacity (mesotrione). You can then apply a starter fertilizer. My favorite fertilizer for seeding is ChicknPoo. It's sold at Menards. You can cover with a thin layer of top soil, lightly rake then don't let it dry out for a few weeks.
I forgot to put pre-emergent down and weeds have already popped up in my yard so now what do I do? I live in TN Zone 7. I don’t like using liquids so if you can recommend granulated. I have 3.5 acres so I’m not going to pull out manually. Thanks!!!
Thanks for the comment. The weeds you are seeing are most likely broadleaf weeds that pre-emergent doesn't prevent anyway. Scotts Triple Action will kill weeds, feed your lawn, and prevent future weeds like crabgrass.
When is the best time to put it down? Morning? Evening? Sunny? Wet? The day Before it rains? Your channel is great! I am a new subscriber! Thank you again for getting back to me so quickly!!
My pleasure! Granular products need to stick to the weeds to work, so the morning when the lawn is wet is the best. If you can apply the day before rain is forecasted, that is ideal, because it needs to be watered in.
Here we go. Welcome back. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you, Brandon! I appreciate it, buddy.

I have that Ames weed puller also. You can aerate and pull weeds at the same time with the size of the holes that thing leaves 😂. Another banger man!
I love that thing! You're right, it leaves some serious craters 😂. Thanks for the comment, buddy!

This is great information. Hands down the advice I give out the most --Raise your height of cut to around 3 inches and mow often.

I wish the Sox could bounce back but I just don't see it. Good luck to your Tigers!
What about cutting your grass low in the spring and higher in the summer? And does leaving grass clippings in your yard really help???
Thank you for your Info and Advice. What do you think is the best thing for where a large dog has peed on the grass creating dead spots?
